I managed the property and machine shop for nearly 3 years. He was born in Warroad. He sold the delta mine for 9 million dollars and a PBY aircraft, that was setup as a winnabago. The mine had some of the richest gummite uranium ore ever found. A large chunk of it is in the Smithsonian, a fossilized tree trunk. He had a lot of experience in the middle east and was very aware of nuclear war. Walden was built to be an enclave of technology to survive war. There were several other waldens, Saratoga California, Denver Colorado, one in Spain, and one in Switzerland. Walden North is the greatest and final one.

It's possible the presumed signs of "plans to upgrade" may be merely to satisfy minimum liability insurance requirements to avoid a lawsuit in case someone gets hurt on your property. There may also be a building code which stipulates basic qualifiers relating to structural integrity to keep it municipally registered as a home and not a nuisance or even environmental hazard. Failing to "appear to maintain a property" would require its deconstruction and safe disposal, asbestos and all. That's cheap, there's a garbage truck on the remote helicopter-only accessible mountain peak every Thursday! Maintaining the residence designation would be desirable from a seller's perspective to increase the resale value of the property. There may also be a licensing requirement - as a condition of receiving a power generating permit - to maintain lodging for a power plant operator; but since no operator wants to live there - not safe for kids, or far from schools - the condition is allowed to slide. What is astonishing is that the power station below still in operation! It is possible a residence is required under an exemption as a homesteader, or prospector, for the permission to "cause the current of a river to be interrupted" (for the power). The dam increases the land value - and the dam requires: a house - which to be safe from prosecution has to be boarded up for liability, requiring the building envelope to be secure to maintain municipal registration as a home, to meet the requirements to have a power permit. The large slanted unit on the wall with "rollers" is a multiple map holder. It would allow multiple maps to be hung like window shades and pulled upp or down when needed. There would have been doors to close it but, it looks like only a small lower portion remains..
Possibly some architectural plans for the construction on the rest of the project and any surrounding areas he had ideas for his " compound". Those granite mtns. would do a good job of keeping out winds carrying harmful toxins.

There is a hydroelectric dam there, I'm guessing there is a road to the base of the funicular tram. Still a lot of work, but less so once you built the tram.
Another great video Brent! You always do so much research about properties you visit. The machine in the laundry room is a mangle to iron flat things like sheets and table cloths.
I would love to live here! Someone is trying to fix it up! Well, you better start understanding, because obviously it is a common enough human phenomena, a characteristic of our species. Some have likened it to artistic expression, a form of communication, a creation of sort...leaving a mark. There are reasons, and explanations..not understanding something, ever, is...well....what can I say....an odd thing to say....Maybe you don't want to understand...as it is understandable. Maybe people have nothing better to do. To be realistic....when the renovation crews arrive....they will essentially do exactly....the same thing....I hope that helps you. They are doing it because its going to happen anyway, so what difference does it make really in the end. ?
What an amazing location. Great video. Fascinating home I would of loved to have seen how all the building supplies and furniture were delivered. In regards to all the damage and vandalism. I'll never understand the reasons to destroy property. Really enjoy your work. Be well Be Safe....
Thanks for the walkthrough and back story. What an incredible self-made man.Definately a good way ahead of his time. His home is amazing. Beautiful timeless design despite its age still relevant today.Mid century modern my favourite.I would say there was some paranoia with the on going cold War and threat of nuclear war that perhaps influenced the design and location of his home?I really hope this is sympaticaly restored.
I wouldn't be surprised. In the 60's people were building buried bomb shelters in their backyards. All over the Canadian provinces are hundreds of government built bomb shelters. People forget about the tension with the Soviet Union and history books only talk about kids practising to "duck and cover" under their school desks.. '
I've been fascinated by Pick since I heard him name dropped in a song while playing Fallout. Very cool to get to see Walden North. His first estate, Walden West, was in Saratoga, California. It's now part of Sanborn Park. The historic house there that was a hostel until 2010 was his for a time, until he decided that he'd set up shop too close to target sites in the Cold War and moved to Canada.
While that house is beat by rats and vandals, I have to say it’s built like a tank! Most homes sitting for that long, especially in a snowy area would be in horrible shape on the exterior. I’m sure that place would be very hard to sell since it seems so isolated from any signs of life. I hope someone comes along and fixes it up.
Just as an FYI this location is not known for its snowfall nor rainfall. It's very dry. With an average annual snowfall of 26.5 cm (10.4 in), Lillooet is the least snowy place in the BC Interior.
Thanks for sharing that was iron press my grandmother used them to rest her nurses uniform and used for pressing sheets pillow cases tea towels etc ! You should have a mask on with that rat poop just saying any any mold spores you are breathing in ! Amazing history ! Be safe ! Happy New Year
So glad to see you again. This was an interesting find. The setting for this house is just absolutely beautiful. I’m glad you didn’t go to this remote spot by yourself. Safety in numbers. Thanks for taking us along.
What a beautiful and unique home. I would have loved to see it before the destruction. I cannot for the life of me understand why people would intentionally destroy such a magnificent place. It literally makes me sick. Thank you so much for sharing. If only....
Oh, my gosh! I want to live there! What an absolutely amazing house and location, but how in the world did they get all the building supplies, furnishings and equipment to build up that mountain!? That is quite the feat! 9:05 that is an electric knife that's missing its blades. 17:00 that looks to be a storage system for his draftings and drawings. I'm guessing, so it's possible that I'm wrong about that. 21:45 that's called a m.a.n.g.l.e. iron. (Sorry for the dots, but without them YT thinks I'm saying something naughty.)
That place was great! I even wondered if there might have been a hidden bunker somewhere attached underground, yet hidden! At 16 minutes in there was a lady walking, darting down the hall. Played it twice to make sure we weren't imagining it! 😮
A very studious man. Lonely though. I see no evidence of children anywhere. Just him and his wife, trying to get away from it all and pursue his creative, off-grid aspirations. Makes me want to take a good, hard look at my life and maybe, celebrate with my loved ones more, while I still can. 👀🕊️ I hope you're wearing a parachute on your back for the return trip off the mountain. 😃 Thank you for sharing this.
Good point, about celebrating with one’s loved ones more while we still can. This guy bought the house in 1965, died in 1986… 21 short years. Surely so much money and effort, so much luxury, for such a relatively short time. We often waste much time and effort and money in life questionable things.
I visited this place when I was in high school, probably around 1982. Didn't get to meet Vernon but we got a tour of the power plant and their research facility, I believe they were working on a mirrored drum for Xerox machines. I've always wondered what happened to this place. Hope someone with deep pockets will buy this place and return it to it's former beauty !!!
21:39 Ironrite was a commercial grade ironing machine that was intended for larger scale laundry needs. You basically fed the laundry under the horizontal roller and it would press the items pretty quickly. You could prefold sheets along their long axis and run them through once, then just fold them up into a smaller size for shelving. A couple pairs of pants could be sent through the roller and pressed faster than you could even start one pair with a hand iron. Once you got the hang of using it, you could iron a bunch of laundry pretty quick. They are from late 60s-70s. We had one for a while but it took up a lot of space in the laundry room. My parents sold it to a local hotel in our hometown if I recall correctly.
Very happy to hear that someone plans to restore this property. What an amazing self-sustained setup - Especially being built in the 60s. Restored and slightly updated, this place would be absolutely amazing.
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is liar and murderer. This is the reason why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why resources are misused. This is the reason why liars and murderers feel good while righteous persons are persecuted. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our loved ones again! :-)
Can't get enough of your videos on your explores, Brent . Looks like it would be quite a treacherous trek. What an extremely interesting self educated man. Just goes to show that you don't need a degree or PHD to achieve major discoveries or valuable millstones. Such a tragedy 😢 the vandals did their dirty work. Fascinating place. What an amazing place. Looks like it was very well designed and built. The cost to build it must have been phenomenal when you consider the infrastructure that also must have been built to support it, like water, sewer, electrical and the logistics to get building materials to the site. He must have hired an engineering firm to work on it. But I guess when you develop a uranium mine you are the kind of person that knows how to get stuff like this built. He sounds like quite an incredible person who lived an incredible life.
What a cool property, i have seen another video on this place but was not a good as your video, thanks for showing it all to us. Wonder if there is a secret underground bunker in that house, it was meant to be a survival home. I would love to live there, unlimited power from the hydro and so nice and remote. Wonder what it would cost to fix it up, the main structure looks pretty good after all these years. Hope someone restores it one day.
A very Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home. Since you mentioned it, someone has bought the property and to me is boarding it up to fix it back up. Imagine the time, money and effort in actually building this where it is! His family must have lived here after he died. What had been hanging at an angle from the office roof had maps that you can pull down! BTW Who was with you in the house? Saw him/her in the hallway while you were in the guy's office. You must have gotten a New microphone, it's picking up a lot of secondary sounds. It's obvious there were people living there as his stuffn awas auctioned off. Still I ca see him doing this given who he was working with back then. Wanting to isolate himself and his family. Neat home.

This dude was super amazing with such a beautiful home, landscape etc
Boy for place that’s hard to get to it’s awfully messed up! Such a shame. Great explore Brent!😊😊😊
Yes, a lot of effort went in to vandalize that place over the years
Nice to see a house made in concrete and very solid!!! So rare in this country... Thank you for the tour in my Province 😎
Loved the funicular tram. What a fantastic find Brent, thank you for all your efforts getting there and showing us.
Glad you enjoyed it
What an extraordinary place and those views !! Imagine waking up to those surroundings every day. Thank you Brent for all the effort you made to bring us this special explore .Gill 🇬🇧
Hey thanks Gill
This just show us how life is not what you have... It all end up forgotten, no matter how much money you have...!
❤
Wow this place freakin blows my mind. This has to be one of my top 10 abandoned homes no doubt. Thanks so much for covering such an amazing find!
Epic home and location but the Huge question is.... how did he get EVERYTHING up there? That includes all building materials, furniture, appliances etc.... just WOW !!!
very beautiful ❤ I don’t understand why people have to vandalize…. such a beautiful home
Stop blaming people here - damage done by animals (bears) and natural decay!
@@billstill1794 Des fenêtres pare-balles brisées par des ours??? En êtes-vous certain? Je ne crois pas, non... Et puis, le propriétaire est décédé en 1989, comment une boite de céréales de 2018 peut s'être retrouvée là? Soyons logique...
@ somehow it felt more than just animals…. stop being such a grouch dude…..
@@billstill1794 the animals that damaged it walk on 2 legs and speak... i live in bear country i seen 0 sign of bear dammage only pack rats ect and vandals...next he gona try and say the bears were operating the spray paint cans as well
Thanks bret for the lenghts you went to make this video, its amazing!!! Beautiful veiw and fascinating history. Im glad that it may be restored, thanks bret
FYI: amazing respect with how you tour homes once very dear to someone. very respectful
That would make a great rehab facility. Peaceful and serene. Far away from the addictions and people that caused the addiction in the first place.
Marvelous idea! Wow no kidding, it would be great... many bedrooms and bathrooms, common areas. Calming sounds of the river. Can drones bring groceries to them
Heartbreaking to see all the vandalizm 😓💔💔💔
Shame it was abandoned... what a place. Little assheads breaking things...smh.
Your video never disappoints!! Thanks Brent!🌟👍☺
Perfect location for a home. I love it! Not my style of architecture though. No neighbors. I love the sound of the river. Beautiful area. Pretty sad that people feel the need to vandalize it.
Imagine the amount of work to get the materials and concrete to the site. The vandals are truly assholes!!!
That's my thought! Even getting furniture up there would be a challenge!
There is a hydroelectric dam there, I'm guessing there is a road to the base of the funicular tram. Still a lot of work, but less so once you built the tram.
They likely built the tramway first to somewhat simplify the project. Mind boggling effort none the less.
Blessings and Thank you for this treasure ❤🙏🏾!! Lets’s Go, Brent 🥾 🏡!!
-West Virginia, USA 🎉
Another great video Brent! You always do so much research about properties you visit. The machine in the laundry room is a mangle to iron flat things like sheets and table cloths.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Oh wow! Thanks so much!
Disgusting to see the vandalism... Such a shame the old house is rotting away.
I would love to live here! Someone is trying to fix it up! The problem with places like this is even though you can tell someone is trying to do something, you get people who just need to step in and stop it! Vandals and Government are both bad for abandoned places! 😢 Really cool man, keep on keeping on! Happy New Year 🎉🥳
Thank you for another great find, it's so sad how kids destroy everything in their path.Beautiful view.🇨🇦
Just wondering how old are you if you think kids destroyed this very hard to reach location?!
@agnetaorum4616 adults don't usually do this destruction. I guess teenagers
my mom had the same oven she loved it !! same colour many cheese slices were toasted on bread under the grill ..we just got rid of it in 2020 ..
Phenomenon find and explore . Had to rewatch this one again! You are hands down The Best explorer I have ever watched!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤ Please stay healthy, safe, and keep exploring❤ You are so loved and respected for your work. Thank you Brent, for taking this retiree, who can no longer be out and about, to such exciting finds❤❤❤ Hope your Christmas was a merry one, surrounded with people you love. Prayers for a Blessed Happy New Year and bunches of explores❤
I will never understand what enjoyment someone gets by destroying others things.
Great find, great video you put out for us. Beautiful, yet scary, climb!! Thank you so much. ❤
Thank you very much!

This place was beautiful in the day! Hope they get started soon on restoring the mansion! Awesome video & explore! 👍👍❤️🤘🤘
Hey thank you 👍🏻
While that house is beat by rats and vandals, I have to say it’s built like a tank! Most homes sitting for that long, especially in a snowy area would be in horrible shape on the exterior.
I’m sure that place would be very hard to sell since it seems so isolated from any signs of life. I hope someone comes along and fixes it up.
If you notice, it's constructed out of cinder block, concrete and brick. There is not much for dimensional framing other than some interior walls.
It seams to be built very well. Could be saved
Some weirdo millionaire with the same idea will buy it eventually lol
@@AbandonedUrbexCanada Not to mention that dam providing power
Just as an FYI this location is not known for its snowfall nor rainfall. It's very dry. With an average annual snowfall of 26.5 cm (10.4 in), Lillooet is the least snowy place in the BC Interior.
Thanks for sharing that was iron press my grandmother used them to rest her nurses uniform and used for pressing sheets pillow cases tea towels etc ! You should have a mask on with that rat poop just saying any any mold spores you are breathing in ! Amazing history ! Be safe ! Happy New Year
@17:00 it appears to be for maps that roll down with those dowels under the fold up shelf..
Correct 💯
@@jbrentonheights9190 my uncle was a cartographer
So glad to see you again. This was an interesting find. The setting for this house is just absolutely beautiful.
I’m glad you didn’t go to this remote spot by yourself. Safety in numbers. Thanks for taking us along.
I sometimes have people with me
Excellent find! Absolutely amazing!
What a beautiful and unique home. I would have loved to see it before the destruction. I cannot for the life of me understand why people would intentionally destroy such a magnificent place. It literally makes me sick. Thank you so much for sharing. If only....
So awesome. Just subscribed. This is great stuff, cheers!
So sad to see the worst in humanity, the low lifers destroying what enterprising people have built. It's sick.
I hope you're wearing a parachute on your back for the return trip off the mountain. 😃
Thank you for sharing this.
Cool! Thanks for sharing this. I think your old teacher comment about this as well. Retired now but took students there
Ahhh, I wanted to see the dam. Cool place!
Thank you Brent for taking us to the British Columbia! Amazing forest and the Mountains.
Your welcome!
@@AbandonedUrbexCanadato the both you its British Columbia 🇨🇦❣️
Very happy to hear that someone plans to restore this property. What an amazing self-sustained setup - Especially being built in the 60s. Restored and slightly updated, this place would be absolutely amazing.
Imagine providing all that uranium to the world, and then building an apocalyptic hideout.
Good point!
Diabolical 🫤🫤
The irony of it all
Being on top a of a small mountain doesn't strike me as the best place to hide from radioactive fallout.
Thank you for taking us there.
Thank you so much Laura!
It's a map holder. When you were in school in the 70s, just about every classroom had one of those.
Thank you
just discovered this channel. looking forward to watch all your videos! Looks awesome. Right up my alley!!
Hey thank you for finding me!
Nice video 😊. Greetings from the Netherlands ❤😊
Australia here/ Now- THAT is my dream house. Thank you for sharing that with us.
Glad you enjoyed it 👌🏻
A rare house never seen that before, gosh the mountains are beautiful
Neat home.
That was my first impression too.
I agree, someone must have been living there after he passed. Maybe family. I have a microphone on my shirt now 👌🏻
@AbandonedUrbexCanada this is pemberton folklore. This guy had some secret information on why he built this here. Because of nuclear dust.
Where would it have even been up for sale? Was there a listing somewhere?
@@AbandonedUrbexCanadayou didn't answer who was with you!! I saw them dart through the shot as well... Assumed a family member ? Otherwise, we captured a real ghostie 👻
Why would someone go out of the way like that to wreck somebody else’s property! That was such a cool place!!
awesome! Thanks for the video. It would be pretty cool to do this and take photos of this abandoned places! pure gold
Must have been a hell of a job getting everything there without roads.
theres a road
Helicopter use 😊
I’m guessing a lot of building materials would’ve been Helicoptered in $$$
Thinking they built the tram first to haul up the materials
@@Hazendal777 If you look close at about 30 seconds, the shot of the dam. There is a road. This place really isn't that far from a town nearby. If there was a helipad, it would have been shown plus if he flew in and out, that would have been mentioned also.
I am glad the algo recommended this video to me. What a great video and hidden Gem. Thank you, Sir 🤙🏼
So sad that people would utterly destroy everything that a hard working veteran like that built, evidently those who destroyed it has never had to work for a living!
You were only 3 hours away from me. Such a cool place to explore thanks so much for sharing.
It's a crying shame that people destroy what a human being worked so hard to make and one night people can come in and destroy and cost thousands of dollars of damage to a house I know this i own rental houses
thank you for the tour! Very interesting place! Such a shame to see it trashed like that.
If its to be preserved whoever owns it needs to get on with it before there's nothing left🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀
Great footage. Very cool place! Thanks for getting up there to share with us
Remember back when we were in school we had pull down maps? I'm guessing that's what that thing was and there are many rollers for different ones.
OMG I can only imagine living there.. Such a beautiful property. I would gladly live there too!!
It sad that his legacy has been destroyed by idiots. With him being part of history it should had been preserved
I would hope that you include a respirator and spare cartridges in your kit for whenever you descend into confined areas such as basements. Cool property though, thank you for filming this.
Why do some people just destroy someone else's property why
It almost seems like a weird form of jealousy to me or something. Teenage angst/destructiveness.
Great Video. Love the Hill-a-vator. Winters there must have been....fun eh?
This definitely was an apocalypse proof mansion in a very nice countryside of B.C. to bad it was left abandoned and vacant all of these years but glad you got to be able to explore it and show it here until next time Thank You.

Imagine getting all that building material up there to construct it and furniture in the mansion. Sad to see it in such brutal condition. To hear that mountain breeze everyday and the river below would be something else! ♥☮
(The wooden folding unit on the office wall is for viewing rolled up maps, maybe large blueprints as well.)
I would love to hear how they did it
