    Hard video to watch. All the things disappearing off the walls. The memories fading. Forgetting her grandson, her kids, herself. Until the only thing left is the memory of her husband. I can't decide if that's the saddest or most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Maybe it's both...

    My grandmother is in a hospital currently, dying... Worst part is that I can't even go visit her because of travel restrictions.
    She isn't even lucid anymore. She doesn't recognize anyone, so I can't even call her because she won't even know who I am.
    It broke my heart when I heard she asked where she was, they told her "at the hospital" but she said "no, I'm at the church, still waiting for someone to come get me."
    I've been so depressed and whenever I hear this song I just break down into tears.
    They can't really do anything for her anymore, they said it's only a matter of time until her heart stops beating. They are just leaving her be now, she is tired and won't survive any more surgeries.
    Remember to tell your loved ones that you loved them every time you can.

    You cant put Spiritbox in a musical genre . You need to here more from them. This is not a regular band. They will be the next Deftones.. Check the Mara effect part 1,2,3 live you will see the band differently. Trust me!

    • @_SaraZ
      @_SaraZ 3 года назад +4

      Indeed. I'm not big into metalcore either but Spiritbox has become my favorite band. I don't even think it's fair to classify them as metalcore, they really defy genres. Sometimes they're proggy, sometimes they're heavy, sometimes they're melodic, sometimes they're all of those at the same time-their approach is incredibly varied. No two songs of theirs sound alike, yet all are written _incredibly_ well.

      @Dakota McGee yeah ok they're a metal band but metal is so wide as a genre... It has some djent vibe, some prog, some melodic... And the lack of any aggressivity in Courtney's voice makes it hard to classify the song into metal genre either sooo...

    when this song came out, my grandmother passed with a pretty rough two years battling with dementia. I saw this video and that's exactly what i saw. Her battle of forgetting everything around her. "Like a shadow passing by
    , Crashing into shapes and then fading with my innocence" crushed me. I didn't get to say goodbye either do to covid, but there was a deep part of me that knew it wouldn't have mattered to her because she didn't know who i was. This sound made me cry deeply when i first heard it. It has become one of my favorite songs.

    One correction: Courtney’s grandmother did not pass away due to covid, but Courtney was unable to return to Alabama (she’s a US citizen, but has lived in Canada for 15-16 years) for the funeral, and had always told her grandmother she would sing at her funeral. This song is kind of her way of coming to terms with it all. Her husband Mike (guitarist) is a longtime friend, and him and I were talking about the subject matter before the songs was released. He told me that he will never forget the day she got the phone call. It was like watching a part of Courtney die in real time right in front of him.
    Also, a fact about this video: the photo of the nurse (which is her not even recognizing herself) is an actual photo of Dylan’s grandmother, Constance.

      That scene at the end when she sees her husband again (because she is now at the place where her husband was waiting for her since he died [?]), isn`t it heart melting? When she sees him and is painfully surprised and happily shocked? With that beautiful necklace which she seemed to have put on every time when she got to see her beloved ones? Oh my...

    • @Dark__Thoughts

    It was very interesting to see how many topics we went through in this one after finishing this video haha. I loved the reaction, though. The video and song are very effective.
    Although I refrain from being overly opinionated on certain things that were mentioned beyond the song because I know everyone has a differing opinion on things, and arguments often arise (needlessly I might say). People are going to have different views, beliefs...opinions. It feels odd to me to tell people that how they feel or if what they believe is incorrect, especially if it doesn’t harm anyone. Of course if it is harming anyone, it will feel wrong in my eyes. But there are people in the world who have different political views, who have religious beliefs, different ways of coping with things...and they aren’t necessarily hurting anyone. And they also aren’t necessarily cut off from reality. No one is that one dimensional based on a single aspect of their personality.

  • @chrisp.14
    @chrisp.14 3 года назад +4

    Much love from Berlin... well, I copied my comment from another reaction to this song here because... why should I re-write it? Just some additions here and there... Guys, it's exactly three months since this video dropped, and every time I watch it the tears come back...
    I personally was too young for really being able to process my grandparents' death back then and no one of my entire family had dementia/alzheimer. But still this song and video shook my soul, it almost made it impossible breathing because there was a rock on my chest. This is some serious piece of art because these visuals and the song align so well together. What a beauty of a song. With its dynamics and everything, with Courtneys exceptional voice, with that sad story being told - all of this is really destroying me even after watching it so many times (80 times? 90 times? Countless times ... EDIT: as I said, this comment is a few months old and I watched it at least three times as often than that). It`s so terrifying, so frightening to be aware of that this may happen to all of us when getting old, it can get you, it can get your beloved ones. This song makes you being aware of how vauluable our lives are, especially with all those things being remembered. How terrible must it be to lose all those memories, everything, even yourself... this song breaks me every time and it still brings me to tears. Especially when (that's how I interpret it) the song ends and she is out there somewhere (heaven? a place of eternal peace?), it is so incredibly beautiful when her sad face fades into a surprised, almost brightened one, like she can't believe that she's finally one with him again. And she has that cute pearl necklace on which she obviously has put on when meeting any beloved person.
    This song is like a therapy to me because it did something to me I never would have expected. It made me being able to cry again instead of swallowing all those feelings and emotions that makes one cry. I am 46 now and I suffer from depression as far as I can remember - in the teenage years (late eighties, early to mid nineties) I wasn't really aware of this but I later realized that I must have had a destroyed psyche from the very beginning. But as a kid and a young teen things were normal because I was raised that way. But my family was a bunch of racists, they were intrigant, controlling, they were putting you down in so many ways, together with most of my siblings (i have four), my dad provoked me so he could be violent against me, my mom was calling me a loser, a fool, a good-for-nothing. When I cried, I was the weakling, the whimp, and even my friends called me a pussyboy when I showed too many emotions. This destructive energy destroyed my emotional, well, capability like some kind of soul cancer. I am with my incredible wife for almost 20 years now and we have a very strong connection, it's a deep love and she made me be able to have and show those strong feelings, and yes, she at least was able to make me shed tears of happyness and positive feelings, just a good feeling of being aware how great this "us two" is. But with sadness, fear and all those things that normally evoke the urge to let it all out and cry, my eyes kept being dry. It just devoured more of my soul which made me have heavy depressive episodes even though we have such a good relationship (and still will have it many years in the future, I am sure) and even though I cut ties radically with my parental family, both parents and siblings because that evilness and negativity had to go out of my life. That was back in 2005. And the decision to make this step was necessary.
    But this is so crazy with this song. It triggered something inside of me, it healed a wound. I literally cried like a broken man. Every time I have watched the video. Every time when I watched reactions to it (there are so many now and I can`t get enough of sharing my tears with their tears), also when I watched yours. The second night when I watched Constance again and again, i was so exhausted that I needed to go to bed. Still crying. Crying like that broken man again. Crying myself into sleep. Feeling that unknown pain, feeling that unknown relief, how crying makes you feel better afterwards. I am so thankful to this band for releasing this song. And I am so thankful to you and a whole bunch of other youtubers for sharing this emotionality with us.
    I'm rubbing tears out of my eyes while writing this. And it makes me feel so good because we all still have our lives.

    I lost both of my grandparents to dementia/Alzheimer’s and it hurt more than anything I’ve ever been through in my life. It is the slowest and worst torture to lose someone you love while they’re still here physically. Over the course of 10 years we had to watch them slowly fade away until they didn’t remember any of us or anything about their own lives. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

    Hello HalfLifeSistah. I know this is not the usual suggestion, but I just discovered this myself and watched two reactions by vocal coaches that had emotional moments. I am sure you may have difficulty getting through it, but see if you can do a performance reaction to "Music of the Night" with Ramin Karimloo. This actor/singer has had NO formal training, but he is one of the top Phantoms of all time. Hope you can add it to your list. Thanks and keep those music emotions flowing (O:

    Late comment, but fantastic reaction, very few songs have made me cry a lot. This is one of them, the other is Always by Killswitch Engage.... That video and song is also powerful, If you have not checked it out I feel you both would love it.

    That`s such a damn good song because it is - true. You feel it that there is no fake or distancing from that mess of Alzheimer. After I`d heard it the first time I didn`t want to listen to it a second time. It took a while.

    Don't worry, this song got quite a few reactors, and even more viewers and listeners. If you haven't then I can only urge you to watch the official videos for Blessed Be, and Rule of Nines. And while Constance is their "heaviest" song, there is also Holy Roller, which is their heaviest, with a really cool DIY covid production video (bonus points if you know the movie Midsommar, for reference).
    You guys in the US were super lucky by the way. There was nothing standing between the rioters and the politicians, except for one officer, which led the whole swarm of morons away from the door that was still all the way open. They literally walked past it, focusing their attention on him (with the guy with his Qtard shirt in the front). If it weren't for this officer (Eugene Goodman), this day could've ended much differently.
    And those idiots still go on the streets for Trump - that's how fascism looks like. Trump might've lost (and not by a landslide), but he and what he stands for, is still of roughly half of your country.

    • @teemuhellman9271
      @teemuhellman9271 3 года назад

      Agree with you on everything else but labeling the Trump phenomenon as facism. I'd say it's more cult of personality.

    • @Dark__Thoughts
      @Dark__Thoughts 3 года назад

      @@teemuhellman9271 That's part of it.
      As it was in Italy and here in Germany.

    • @teemuhellman9271
      @teemuhellman9271 3 года назад

      @@Dark__Thoughts Can't argue with that. Just don't see the hallmarks of facism here. Not all cults of personality are facisist. As all facisist regimes are also cults of personality.
      Now don't get me wrong, IMO Trump was and still is a danger for democracy. And glad he got booted. I'd just put him in the oligarch box.

    Totally agree with the self imposed news/social media blackout - have done this for 2+ years now and rely on others for important stuff.... I'm as burly lookin, if not more, as Wolf but as emotional as Sistah... Constance leaves me in absolute bits every time I watch it.... Edit: Great vid

    Don't hold back Wolf. I know you're here for the music reaction but I'm with you all the way in what you express. I mean, views, sure you can have different views but you can't have you're own facts. Covid is real. Only idiots think otherwise. Their views don't matter if they're based on fantasy and lies. I really love your heartfelt reactions. I would love a friend with those views and one that love metal. I got both but not together. You're both beautiful people! Love ya! 😍

    I feel for the victims if covid. I caught it and recovered. It is no joke. That being said, for you to say it has killed more people than WWI and WWII is ridiculous. An estimated 75 million people died as a result of WWII alone. Many, many more were permanently disfigured as a result thereof. I feel for your relatives who are nurses, and I salute them but it isn't necessary to compare the casualties tons world war. Apples and oranges.
