There's a correction / additional information in the comments: "Constance is my mom. Today - December 4th is her birthday - she is 88. She is the nurse in the photo. She is in a long term care home and I have not seen her since early March of this year due to COVID-19. Unfortunately the press release is incorrect. Courtney’s grandmother died in 2020 and she wrote the beautiful lyrics to honor her grandmother. Dylan’s grandmother is still living and has been suffering from dementia for several years. Dylan created the video imagery to honor his grandmother and her struggles at this time in her life. Mom goes by Connie to those that know her. Today her proper name of Constance is more meaningful. Dylan from Versa Films is my son. I am thankful to Courtney and Spiritbox for having the courage to tackle a subject like this. Courtney: I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I am touched by the comments from everyone that has been through this. As the son, I know how it affects me - everyday seeing your mother not remember you. Counting the times she remembers your name. As parents we don't always see or realize the impact these circumstance and this disease has on the grandchildren. Dylan, Courtney and all the comments show that the pain runs deep within the families. For me it is tough to watch this video. It is harder to live with or to have lived with this in real life. Words cannot begin to describe. Thank you to everyone for their comments as hard as they were to publicly display. It's amazing Dylan. It's amazing Courtney. It's amazing Spiritbox. Constance is proud. I am proud."
My favorite part musically of this song is that as the grandmother's memory falls apart and breaks down visually that the song matches it by unfurling and slowing into madness. There's clearly a cohesive vision for this song and it's great.
@@TheLynx30 I'm not sure though, but I /think/ at the end there after it calms down to the soft hum, the old lady has passed on and she's seeing her husband on the other side? That guy isn't the same as her son from earlier in the video, right? Maybe that's why. Maybe she finally has peace, and she's seeing that someone she recognizes, her cognition has returned and she can finally rest? I think she's dressed in a black sweater, and the look on her face seems to be of that sort of realization that she's dead, and she knows it because she remembers again, and is seeing someone else that's already passed on? Deep stuff.
Wait, no, that guy is earlier in the video too, but different from the son with the wife and older kid... that's the guy that appears when she first is losing her memory and is there again at the end? I'm really wondering what the significance is now.
My grandparents are all deceased now, but each of them suffered some degree of dementia and Alzheimer's at the end of their lives. Watching that happen... I still have never processed that pain and I've listened to this song a few times now and it is like a punch in the emotional gut every time. The sorrow in her voice, in the music, in the visuals... such a beautiful, moving song.
Both of my grandparents on my dad's side have suffered from dementia so this song and video just destroyed me the first few times I watched it. The beauty of the song brings me so much joy, while the subject matter brings sadness and pain. It's rare to find a song that does that. What an incredible piece of art.
My heart goes out to you Tamara. It's hard enough to lose someone you love but to not be there with them in their final moments is horrific. I know EXACTLY how it feels. Remember the warm and happy memories and keep her alive for all of us in your love and memories.
This song makes me cry every fucking time. It's like someone reaching out and going "I understand how you feel. I've been there. I know that it hurts."
My grandfather is also going through the end stages of dementia and I'm currently taking care of him. It is devastating watching him lose himself. This song hit me so hard and I'm greatful Cortney and the band was able to share it with the world. Brings me to tears every time I listen 💙 Thanks for the great video guys 💙
I was waiting for this reaction from you both. I LOVE that they make each song sound so different, along with the feeling each song brings... Not to mention the detail they put into their music videos. The story they tell every single times hits just as hard as the song itself. This one, especially. I’m so glad they’ve blown up and got the recognition they deserve this year and that I finally discovered them 😂 I cannot wait to see them announce some shows in Aus already.
You blew it pausing it in the middle of the breakdown. That is when the song hits the pinnacle of the emotion for me and I get goosebumps and tears. The catharsis is real.
You are absolutely right. Sadly, one of these 2 guys just can't deal with his own emotions and try to obliterate them by pausing. A shame when it comes to genuinely react to such an intense and well crafted song.
The reason I love this song, despite how bad it hits home, is how it portrays Dementia/Alzheimers affecting all parties, not only the individual, but the family as well. It really, really hit home hard for me. I havent seen or had media reflect this correctly.
Another artist I probably wouldn't have become aware of, let alone listened to, if I hadn't subbed to this channel. Definitely gonna check out their other stuff, so thanks for that!
The beauty of this band is that none of their songs sound alike. You can go from Belcarra to Bleach Bath to Blessed Be to The Mara Effect 1-3 and get a different vibe every time. This band is truly one in a million.
Oh good grief this always gets me. My Nan used to get dressed up & watch out the window for me when she knew I was coming to visit. 16 years she's been gone, I'm now watching my dad in the early stages so it kills me
