One thing most people fail to realise about this movie is that it's actually the first movie to "re-imagine" Freddy's backstory! Freddy most certainly wasn't a married family man living on elm street, and most certainly not in Nancy's house! Originally, he was a homeless guy who lived (and worked) in the boiler room at the power plant as a squatter.. This should be crystal clear if you see part 1. I choose to see this as a spin-off rather than a true installment, simply because it retcons everything. Oh, and the comedy certainly didn't help. The ONLY redeeming factor is Alice Cooper. 8:42 Likewise, Cody. As bad as this movie is, the map scene never fails to get at least a chuckle out of me. I think it’s Carlos’ delivery of the line. _“Yeah, well, the map says we’re fucked!”_
Carlos must've been talking about the Franchise. Look at what happened to it, afterwards! Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994): Interesting storyline, but scored the lowest, at the Box Office, in terms of Ticket Sales. Freddy Vs. Jason (2003): Totally embarrassing for Freddy Krueger! He does all of this talking, and uses a bunch of one-liners (AGAIN!!!), but, after all that gabbing, he gets HOW MANY VICTIMS?!? One. Just how embarrassing is that?!? They should've named this movie Jason Vs. Freddy, instead of the other way around. That's because Jason mops the floor with Freddy, in the kill count! Nightmare On Elm Street (2010): I actually liked this movie, and here's why: Jackie Earle Haley's version of Freddy Krueger restores the true menace, that the first four Nightmare On Elm Street movies had! The kill count for Mr. Krueger goes back up to 4, and we finally get much more clarification of Freddy Krueger's life, before he became "Immortal". He, according to this movie, was a filthy child molester....then he began, after his "Death", to be able to kill children...and at a rather alarming rate! Ol' Fred's not even averse to going after adults, either, as we see him kill Marge, just before the movie ends!
They had plenty of Looney Tunes esque sound effects when Spencer got killed. Freddy's humour should be like The Joker's. Sick but funny where you laugh at it then wonder why you did. Not bad jokes and outdated references like in some of the later films.
New Line should make a Nightmare film that is basically a replacement for Freddy's Dead that used Peter Jackson's script that has better quality and is actually good
I actually really enjoyed Freddy's dead but i do understand from the stand point of it is so far from what Nightmare on elm street was with the original and dream warriors and went the hokey route but it is campy fun
The original script was awesome...Alice's son teamed up with the Dream Warriors. Wish they'd done that. That would have been completely awesome. The scene where Freddy's daughter discovered his secret was legit scary, I thought. That was probably the one part of the movie that I thought was well done.

I never knew that Freddy movie was supposed to be anything else BUT this kind of movie. I remember watching it back to back with the live action Ninja Turtles movie and it was sort of the same level of entertainment. Then I worked my way back through the franchise, watching parts 5, 3, 2 and 1 in reverse order (part 4 I saw last) and I was actually surprised that the prequels to this comedy once were serious horror movies :D Looking from perspective, it's crap, but I will always feel nostalgic about it for all these reasons.
Here's something funny for ya - I remember this is the first rated R movie that I saw in the theater (before I was 18) and I literally remember NOTHING about it. Even your review didn't make any part of that movie familiar. Guess that's a good thing huh? :)
This was one of two of the only movies that I actually got up out of my seat and stormed out of the theater. I am still pissed that my friends and I paid money for a ticket.
i rented this movie from a video shop when i was about 9 years old, this was back in the late 90's i love the fact the ending was in 3D but i didn't love the fact the video shop rented it to me without 3D glasses.
Don't forget Freddy suddenly out of the blue gaining new abilities he didn't have in the older ones, like being able to somehow erase his victims from history, or affect the real world even when nobody nearby is asleep.
There was one other part I thought was funny when the kids go into the classroom and the teacher goes “Hello and welcome to Freddy 101. 1883:Freddy sailed the sea!” Just the delivery on those lines made it funny for me.
A handful of good elements: - Freddy's youth and backstory - Lisa Zane and Yaphet Kotto - The final showdown has a few good moments even if the pipebomb death is shit. Other than that... Yeah.
Amanda Owens Mainly in the final climax. Also from what I heard, the director got sick during the later quarters of production and the film the rest of the movie behind her back.
You gotta feel bad for poor Cody. He talked about how he would never have to experience this movie again... and he’s had to experience it multiple times since. Whether it be commentaries, or ranking videos, or Q&A questions, he might not ever escape this movie which is sad
this was the best review of this film I have seen to this day. Have you reviewed Halloween Resurrection? I'm sure the video was something similar to this.
Jason Hamilton Thanks a lot man that's awesome to hear. I have not reviewed Resurrection only did the first two but whenever I go back to complete that franchise it will be an entertaining review for sure.
I'm the biggest Elm Street mark. They had an incredible foundation. I loved the idea of going back in time and seeing him evolve in Freddy Kruger. But they took it and wiped their asses with it!
They need to give Freddy the Halloween treatment. Give us a direct sequel and cut out the entire timeline after Dream Warriors. Bring back Patricia Arquett with a story of Freddy returning to kill off the children of the surviving dream warriors. Bring Neil Gordon back into the story. Hell, bring Jesse back into the story and try to fix his story line. Anything to give us one more Nightmare with Robert England truly bringing everything he has to give us a brutal final battle against what’s left of the remaining Elm Street legacy.
So. Die hard halloween fan. It had the most affect on me. However my first nightmare I can recall as a kid dates back to the parachute scene. Will forever be embedded in my brain as one of scariest things I ever saw
I totally agree! The whole schmear of him going from Horror Movie Icon, to an absolute Cornball Clown, actually started way back in Nightmare On Elm Street 4:The Dream Master. Freddy was still able to come across as absolutely savage, yeah...but there was a problem. He started talking more and more, and he began explaining things a bit too much. Then came Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. A couple of the kills were very savage, those two kills being Dan's Death, and Greta's Death....but, if you noticed, Freddy just couldn't resist the urge to add too much info & one-liners to each kill. Then, there's Mark Gray's Death. Freddy turned Mark into a paper drawing, after having sliced out a good-sized portion of his right side, and proceeded to hack and claw "Mark" to pieces. Also:The multi-colored "Blood" was shown to have poured out of his "Body" from head to feet. How is that even possible, if there are no cuts in the feet, or, at the very least, in the lower parts of the legs? A wound like what he had in his side would not have bled out below the surface of the lowest part of the cut on Mark's right side! Clearly, whoever put that "Kill" in the movie wasn't thinking clearly, as it concerns Human Anatomy! This is also the "Kill", where Freddy's transition from terrifying killer to cornball clown, is complete. And it's pathetic!
Great review broski. Yeah, I, I agree. Hands down the worst one in the franchise. But I mean they did make Jason have an imaginary sister out of no where lol so why not have Kruger have a daughter out of no where haha.
I’d have to say that the 2010 remake is worse just because Robert England isn’t in it but Freddy’s Dead is very very bad and literally gives me a headache too.
I like freddy's dead for expanding lore and even if some parts are trash there's some real good stuff and ideas in the movie that were just not executed very well, if anything, I would argue that 4 and 5 are marginally worse by a long shot. At least this movie had a script lol.
What the hell, they could have brought some of the dream warriors back??!! And just when I thought I couldn't despise this movie any more. Also great review, everything you said was on point :D
The crazy thing is the bitch who directed it had been around for so long and she hadn’t picked up anything to help her make a film better than part 2. The Jackson draft had kids making themselves faint, and then one falls into a coma and Freddy feeds off his soul when he’s in some weird in-between state that isn’t ‘true’ sleep because it was self-induced. It was a cool idea, it’s a shame that Bob Shaye passed it up.
Peter Jackson's script would've been awesome! This piece of shit makes Jason X look like Pulp Fiction. Both movies were released by New Line. Lol. Seed of Chucky was even better than this. I need a drink!
In all fairness halloween resurrection had some decent kills and I'd say the first 10-25 mins of the film where the best parts where he cases his sister down at the mental hospital i think the whole movie should've took place in there making this a psychological horror slasher and make this similar to halloween 2 i bet you this movie would've been better than what was delivered
They actually did a comic book series in the early 90s that incorporated Dr. Gordon, Nancy, and the surviving and deceased dream warriors in an unofficial continuation from part 3. It was quite good. Nancy becomes the spirit of benevolence and kindness within the dream realm. The yin to Freddy's yang. She protects Neil even though he is not aware of it at first. She can manipulate the dream world as Freddy can but is still learning how to control and use her power. Check it out if u get a chance. It' a cool alternative time line to what we received in the films.
You know what's fascinating, tho? Rachel Talalay, the director of this film went on to become a successful TV director, directing one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever, the episode "Heaven Sent".
I thought the acting was actually decent and better than 4 and 5 and the kills were at least creative in some respects and the characters did have certain issues brought back up in the dreams. I cannot defend anything else really though Seeing multiple kinds of gloves was cool and the backstory while it doesn't fit for me is the best part of this movie especially that guy who plays teenage Fred. Oh yeah Alice Cooper is in this I'm seeing him again soon. Last thing the concept of all the kids being previously killed and turning the town into his own messed up dream land is a cool idea horribly realized.
I absolutely hate it to, the last time I watched it I tried to look for anything I thought was salvageable. I feel the same way but I can't say all aspect of it didn't work either. I put all the blame on Rachel. I hate this movie the absolute most but I was able to dig out anything I could enjoy about it the second time I watched it. Trust me at some point in the movie all I could say is NO no NO no NOOO, I wanted to throw a rock at my TV. I will never watch this movie again. It is one of the worst movies I put myself through. I only watched it again because many people said it wasn't that bad on a Freddy fan page I was a part of. Last time I watched 4-6 I looked at what specifically I could enjoy from the heap. I came out enjoying 5 more than 4 and seeing the potential of FD and Imagined what a fan edit of 4-6 and the remake would look like. That put me through these installments again. This is the bottom the barrel but I did notice aspects that were good or had the potential to be. Needle in a haystack mentality.
I feel like even when the Freddy films are bad Robert brings it 100%

I did some of the special fx for this film, please forgive me for working on this pile haha!!
I understand I am big alice Cooper fan also
There was one other part I thought was funny when the kids go into the classroom and the teacher goes
“Hello and welcome to Freddy 101. 1883:Freddy sailed the sea!” Just the delivery on those lines made it funny for me.
A handful of good elements:
- Freddy's youth and backstory
- Lisa Zane and Yaphet Kotto
- The final showdown has a few good moments even if the pipebomb death is shit.
Other than that... Yeah.
Hey Cody have u ever seen Never Sleep Again? The documentary chronicling all of the Nightmare films?
+Dylan Thomas Sure did. I actually watched each segment before reviewing each movie.
Cody Leach right on man. That kind of research is what makes ur reviews dope. Great Graphics! Lololol
+Dylan Thomas Thanks a lot man!
3:02 is when I see that silent house is going to be on ifc until July of next year
Are you going to do New Nightmare,Freddy vs Jasos and the remake they did a few years back. And I agree FUCK THIS MOVIE!
+Wardor 1992 Sure am. Probably gonna record all three some time this weekend to try and get them all out by the end of June.
Cody Leach Sweet looking forward to see them!
@@CodyLeachYT Are you going to do New Nightmare commentary
I’m just here for the great review & the Cody leach Gangsta image LOL 10:20.
This rant was legendary
In the poster of this movie it says they saved the best for last... WHAT DO YOU MEAN...
I feel your pain. It was so cheesy. lol
I liked it when it came out... but I was also like 9yrs old 😂
As I've grown, I've learned from my mistake. 😔
As a child of less than 10 years old, comedic Freddy still scared the daylights out of me watching in theaters.
Is this the 3D one?
Cláudia Canais Yep it's that one!
Pretty much
Amanda Owens
Mainly in the final climax. Also from what I heard, the director got sick during the later quarters of production and the film the rest of the movie behind her back.
You’re the best reviewer on RUclips
Thank you
6:02 that scene feels less like a movie scene, and more like somthing you'd find in a YTP.
So... Rachel Talalay is the Don Mancini of Nightmare on Elm Street movies? Makes sense.
GI Jack
Don Mancini has written every Chucky movie, genius.
Don Mancini created Chucky. Yes, Bride and Seed were bad movies but at least he didn’t screw with someone else’s character.
You gotta feel bad for poor Cody. He talked about how he would never have to experience this movie again... and he’s had to experience it multiple times since. Whether it be commentaries, or ranking videos, or Q&A questions, he might not ever escape this movie which is sad
I love the backstory flashbacks. What's that like 2-3 minutes at the most?
9:47 What is that movie?
this was the best review of this film I have seen to this day.
I have the script for Dream Dimension (Nightmare 6). The idea before the film.
Lol. This is a guilt pleasure for me😂
Daddy Coconut. No it’s just bad
@@MichaelMyers66793 it’s HILARIOUS, so bad it’s good I love it 😂
@@uhuhuh1966 yeah we’ll go and get your brain checked
@@MichaelMyers66793 lol it’s not that serious chill out
@@uhuhuh1966 no this movie is an insult to humanity
I feel it is very underrated just fun like the room or troll 2 4 and 5 are worse and the remake
My Nightmare On Elm Street Ranking Is:
Freddy's Dead
Dream Child
New Nightmare
Dream Master
Freddy's Revenge
Nightmare On Elm Street
Dream Warriors
💯...worst to best, I'm assuming
I'm sorry what's wrong with the film again?
It’s basically a live action Looney Toons short
Freddy Dead 3D....lol.
This review makes me laugh so hard. I love his reviews!!
You are the shit brother...Finally someone who can review a movie!
Thanks man
I'm the biggest Elm Street mark. They had an incredible foundation. I loved the idea of going back in time and seeing him evolve in Freddy Kruger. But they took it and wiped their asses with it!
I like this movie because of the funniest part is when carlos head explodes
They need to give Freddy the Halloween treatment. Give us a direct sequel and cut out the entire timeline after Dream Warriors. Bring back Patricia Arquett with a story of Freddy returning to kill off the children of the surviving dream warriors. Bring Neil Gordon back into the story. Hell, bring Jesse back into the story and try to fix his story line. Anything to give us one more Nightmare with Robert England truly bringing everything he has to give us a brutal final battle against what’s left of the remaining Elm Street legacy.
i bet your wife had to keep all of your knifes, pills, glass and the scissors away from you
So. Die hard halloween fan. It had the most affect on me. However my first nightmare I can recall as a kid dates back to the parachute scene. Will forever be embedded in my brain as one of scariest things I ever saw
Hilarious review Cody, I haven't laughed so hard & so much in ages.
Utter garbage from start to finish, Robert just took the paycheck & phoned it in.
I totally agree! The whole schmear of him going from Horror Movie Icon, to an absolute
Cornball Clown, actually started way back in Nightmare On Elm Street 4:The Dream Master.
@@ronaldshank7589 Best of all he kills nobody in the last act of Freddys Dead.
Great review broski. Yeah, I, I agree. Hands down the worst one in the franchise. But I mean they did make Jason have an imaginary sister out of no where lol so why not have Kruger have a daughter out of no where haha.
Jonathan Haydon Freddy having a kid could have been an interesting story but this movie couldn't have executed that story worse.
I’d have to say that the 2010 remake is worse just because Robert England isn’t in it but Freddy’s Dead is very very bad and literally gives me a headache too.
True
You hit the nail on the head. Great review man. You need more subs!
+Ciaran Mcloughlin Thanks man. I'm getting there little by little
I like freddy's dead for expanding lore and even if some parts are trash there's some real good stuff and ideas in the movie that were just not executed very well, if anything, I would argue that 4 and 5 are marginally worse by a long shot. At least this movie had a script lol.
It baffles me how you only have 5,000 subscribers. These Freddy reviews are fucking great! You deserve so much more, man.
+SCooBHoUSE Thanks man. The channel has been taking off lately so Im rising pretty good. All in due time
What the hell, they could have brought some of the dream warriors back??!! And just when I thought I couldn't despise this movie any more. Also great review, everything you said was on point :D
Thank you. Yeah this movie is an abomination
didn't all the dream warriors die
@Yamata - Pretty much
The crazy thing is the bitch who directed it had been around for so long and she hadn’t picked up anything to help her make a film better than part 2.
+Torie Buchanan Agreed. As much as I despise Seed its Godfather compared to this pile.
10:00 Wonder if Cody'd "play a game" with Jigsaw rather than watch Freddy's Dead again
Lmfao. Love your narration man. Lol
hey please answer me this awesome video and i am almost done with the fifth one after that should i watch this movie
Ugh...if you have the strength and absolutely nothing better to do lol
thanks man you ar the best
It’s actually not unofficaial, as New Line Cinema considers those comics losely canon
Cody you should do a playlist of just your movies that required the $%@! counter.
You know what's fascinating, tho?
Rachel Talalay, the director of this film went on to become a successful TV director, directing one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever, the episode "Heaven Sent".
This film makes Dream Child look like a good Freddy movie even though it’s not
As a kid of the 80s & 90s I’m so glad I stopped watching the Nightmare on Elm Street after part 3
Literally just finished watching this movie...yeah it sucked, Peter Jackson’s version would’ve been so much better
At least Rachel Talalay went on to do some great directing in Doctor Who
I thought the acting was actually decent and better than 4 and 5 and the kills were at least creative in some respects and the characters did have certain issues brought back up in the dreams.
+ProJatior I can't appreciate anything about this one...its horrendous to me
I absolutely hate it to, the last time I watched it I tried to look for anything I thought was salvageable.
I agree. I like acting
3:02 is when Mrs june is criticizing my friendship with Shannon
Lester Thornbury would take Freddie in this movie ...666
0:04 I knew I was in for a bad time with this movie when I saw this moment for the first time.
If this is the 3D one, I saw it in the theatre... (as you can see, it was memorable) Nough said!
lol Clearly it left a huge mark on your memory. haha
3:02 is when the faculty is not on scream factory
