18:29 Actually critic, it's been a rule of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (established all the way back in the first movie in fact) that if you're holding onto any part of Freddy at the moment you wake up, it will come into the real world with you. That's how he's been brought out of the dream world in the climax of two solo films before this one. There is a scene in Freddy VS Jason when Lori wakes up with a peace of Freddy's skin that she ripped off in the middle of her dream, so therefore said rule is still consistent!

@@user-dr2yz8um3daccording to Bruce Campbell the studio that owns the rights to Ash won't allow that character to crossover. Campbell is all for doing it but like he said it's up to them.
Let's be perfectly honest, folks. Freddy and Jason are on opposite ends of the murder spectrum: Jason kills you while awake and fighting, but gets his ass handed to him in the non-physical world. Freddy kills you in your sleep using your vices against you, but, if actually pulled out of the dream realm, would most likely end up writhing and screaming in agony as feeling returns and he realizes just how painful Post-Traumatic Burned-Alive Disorder can be. A fairer match for Freddy would be against Candyman or Pinhead, because they normally don't manifest in the physical realm, though they can manipulate it. As for Jason, pit that undead hockey-mask wearing schmuck against Leatherface or Victor Crowley and let 'em beat th living bejesus outta each other. Also, I realize there was a comic book revolving around Leatherface and his family bringing Jason to Texas before they proceed to fight after Jason disses the inbred cannibal swagger.
Matthew McClain I would imagine zombie Jason would rip leatherface to shreds, even the bodybuilder version from the rebooted series. Jason vs Crowley would be wild & better fit, tho who would Kane play? Pinhead against Freddy or Jason would work well to, I can only imagine the chain ripping carnage.
Matthew McClain I think Jason and Michael Meyers would be the more perfect match up. their killing styles are almost identical and they are both somewhat unkillable man mountains.
Freddy wouldn't die/feel pain in the real world because of his burns (he's been dead for quite a long time, so I'd imagine those nerves are dead too, and plus we've seen him pulled into the real world many times before and he didn't feel it then). Like all those other times, what would kill Freddy in the real world are the facts that he is small, not very strong, inexperienced in hand-to-hand combat, and too cocky for his own good. And he has absolutely no access to his dream powers in the real world, which makes his fighting ability all but non-existent.
I have actually been to a rave in a corn field... yeah its a thing. It was funny, one side of a small lake was a rave, while on other side dudes with cowboy hats and kegs... crazy party
I actually met Robert Englund (Freddy) at a con once. I asked him if they were ever going to make a sequel to Freddy vs Jason (This film is a guilty pleasure of mine). He told me that they were actually thinking of making one and it would centre around Freddy and Jason going up against Ash from the Evil Dead movies. But they scrapped it because they wanted Ash to win and they were afraid that they would piss off a lot of Freddy and Jason fans.
Anyone ever realize that the cosmic justice system in most horror movies is really, really fucked up? Like, Freddy for example. He's a child killer, and is righteously punished for his sins by being burnt alive. He then gets to become an immortal dream-stalker, and gets to keep on murdering children for eternity? How does that make any sense at all?
The cosmic justice system in horror films is mostly in regards to the movie monsters' victims, and not really the movie monsters themselves. It's why the final girl is almost always a virgin (but not too goody goody, otherwise she'd be killed for her nerdiness, submissiveness, etc.), and why having sex, drinking, and/or doing drugs, etc., gets kids killed in horror films. That justice system seems to reflect conservative values; don't have sex before marriage, and don't do drugs/alcohol. There's other things teens in horror films are punished for, but those are the main, basic ones. In regards to the movie monsters themselves, it's clearly a different story, and different for each monster. As for Freddy, I'd say he's the punishment for the adults who killed him by harming their kids, since being burned alive without trial is not the "proper" way to deal with child killers/molesters in the eyes of the law. However, obviously, the justice system failed in locking him up. It's a morality thing.
To be fair, he does trade up when dies. I don't know if that's a stipulation of his revenge, but he does seem to get off more on terrorizing teenagers now. Since even after he's free to terrorize *anyone* he never seems to target kids in the age group he was torched for murdering. So I mean they are still kids but they're not really _children._
What? It's not about the justice, it's about the horror. The horror that this child killer isn't going away that easy and still hunts you in your dreams.
Connor Tyler: You really don't get it, do you? Freddy wasn't "rightfully punished". He had a fair trial and was released on a technicality. The parents decided to take the law into their own hands, which is JUST AS BAD! That's the reason he gets revenge, on the children of his killers! 2 wrongs doesn't make a right! "The children shall pay for the sins of their parents" is the message, and it makes perfect sense.
futurestoryteller The teens Freddy goes after in the series are part of the original toddler group he was torched for going after. The kids just grew up in the time between his death and his coming back in their dreams. Freddy's whole thing in the early films of the series was going after the kids of the parents that torched him, for revenge.
I loved it to it was a nice campy fun and was in my opinion a pretty good movie if you are a fan of both The Nightmare On Elem Street and Friday The 13th movies

And Snyders only really made 2 films like that Man of steel and Sucker Punch (BvS got and R rated home video release so it probably doesn't qualify) arguing that he is notorious for a PG-13 rating is kinda ignorant considering his films are mostly either an 18 or just get an R rated Blu Ray release. In fairness, the Friday the 13th reboot was actually pretty good. Friday the 13th, 2009 at least did something unique with the Jason formula. Jason was no longer a Tyrant from Resident Evil. He was more akin to Albert Wesker. He was more cunning, vicious, imposing and just as persistent as ever. The Elm Street reboot was more the same as Elm Street 1 except Freddy was a Fredophile. It was really uncomfortable to watch it. Granted, so was Jason burning someone in their own sleeping bag, but still! That badadss would eviscerate Freddy in a heartbeat. If he has one.
@@HellNoCrab235 he was SUPPOSED to be. There was some subtext alluding to him being so. Wes Craven wanted him to also be a pedo, but thought having it explicit was too much, so they made it more subtle.

Now as a longtime Nostalgia Critic fan, I sometimes like to look at the comments to see what a new generation of fans thinks about his style. But DAMN. I scrolled down expecting people saying "Hey, Watchmen wasn't bad" only to find that this comments section was politically charged in ways that I wouldn't expect from the comments section of a FILM REVIEW. Like guys, if you want to show your political opinions you can do that. While I don't think that this is at all the place for politics, I can understand mentioning your political views with how big the upcoming election is. Doesn't mean you have to attack Doug for his political opinions. It was a two second joke. I actually got to meet the actor who played Jason in this movie at a con, he is such a genuinely nice person, honestly all the actors who play Jason are.
From a pragmatic point this was really the only thing Freddy was able to use in some way to get the upper hand, otherwise it would just be a non-stop "Jason getting smashed in dreamworld" until they fought eachother IRL. And that would be boring. Jason needed a shred of humanity and he got it.
Does anyone else remember The Batman vs. Dracula? I do believe that was the first "vs." film I ever saw. It was... decent enough. And WAY more focused than Freddy vs. Jason. It was set in the same continuity as the 2003 TV series, "The Batman". However, while the TV show was rated TV-Y7, the movie was rated TV-PG. It was aiming for an older demographic. I remember it being so strange seeing this Batman movie in the exact same art style and universe as the cartoon I was growing up with, but since there were vampires in it, there was quite a bit of blood shown clear as day, along with it being quite a bit more violent and disturbing. (The Joker gets heavily electrocuted in a scene, for one thing.)

Eh, I got what they were going for. Elemental design in Freddy weak to Fire and Jason to Water. Gives them clear contrast in scenes from blues to reds for the visuals as well as being rock simple to keep them as polar opposites. The talkative Freddy and the Silent Jason, the fast moving ambusher Freddy and slow plodding stalker Jason, the tormentor Freddy and the brutalizer Jason. Could have been better but I at least understand and appreciate it was more as a mirror thing over a Jason specific thing.
@@hitomisalazar4073 That’s a great way to look at it. I always assumed Jason’s hydrophobia stemmed from some form of PTSD from when he was drowned as a kid, but your explanation’s better. Also, I think Freddy has athazagoraphobia (fear of being forgotten) because he’s pretty much powerless then.
So is the series about the two directors teaming up to fight Shyamalan's reign of boredom, with explosions and action? Because I would totally watch that show.

Matthew McClain Wow
maybe Freddy's still aware that he's fictional and thats why he talks to the audience so much

@@chaddaddywarden4349 I was saying the movie's real name.
Boooooo! Boooooo! They shouldn't have scrapped it! Such an awesome idea like that...
They did it in comics though. Published by Dynamite, who does a lot of licensed series.
I don't care what anybody says. This movie was a campy good time and everything I wanted it to be.

Crazy Horse 9000 Even some G movies are really good. Rating doesn't mean much.

Wait a minute does Evangeline Lily play Wasp in the Marvel movies.
@@RenaldyCalixte yep
Yes
Oh wow. It is!!
I would pay good money to see that Ash vs. Ash movie brought to life.
I'd put money on the Pokemon winning.
What is your profile pic?

Pokémon Anime Ash would lost.
Pokemon stomps.
Nerdy Fan Ash is a badass with a chainsaw, while Pikachu is a superpowered lightning mouse that has survived superhuman blows and slashes on the regular. I love Evil Dead, but it's pretty certain who would lose.
1:05 Ok the second that chainsaw touches Pikachu Ash is getting electrocuted
That won't necessarily kill him though.
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer depends on the voltage, in the anime it wont but in the real world, Ash's Chainsaw wouldnt even make contact before he got jolted.
Also, ash could punch ash in the head and crack his skull, dude is crazy strong, I mean the trainer, not the quitar.

Sadako (The Ring girl) VS Kayako (The Grudge girl) actually came out this year! XD
Wait it did? What's it called?
Cute
Right, both stories are Japanese in origin. Where can I see this film?
Asian sluts wrestling in Strawberry jelly.
More than likely wrong though....Could be Raspberry flavour.
***** Thank you! I'm glad they came up with such a wonderfully creative name.
Oh god, what if there is a TMNT and Transformers crossover.
John Myers *slowly suffocates John* Your thoughts should never be heard.
John Myers no thats a bad john. NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM AND THINK ABOUT HOW SHIT THAT WOULD BE!
*Disappears in a puff of smoke*
They were thinking about (and still might do) A GI Joe and Transformers crossover
......KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!!!
That Freddy teases Jason actually made me laugh
Goku is Autism True
Freddy: Jason You Wear A Mask
Jason: Thats Offensive
It made me sad
Fun fact. Ju-on vs the grudge actually happened and it was horrifying
In a good way or a bad way?
@@matthewborgen5018I wanna know too! Though IK it was in Japan
Also Ju-on is the Grudge!
"But the human version of Droopy" lmao XD
Ash vs Ash is something I would pay to see
Bruce Campbell Vs Himself
An idea mentioned in the Sharknado review
They did that already. It was called Army of Darkness. Ash won, because he was the guy with the gun.
uhm in army of darkness he fought vs himself
"Bruce Campbell Vs Himself" is called "My Name is Bruce"
+Miserable Masquerade THANK YOU! Someone with a BRAIN!
as for the R rating thing, thank god for "Deadpool" and "Logan", man.
Bijinius Cross Now don't forget "It" haha
Logan sucked
Yep
Logan was an rated R
ThaYoungWolf Forget what?
Honestly, "Welcome to my world, bitch!" Has stuck with me since I was like 10. 😂 It's the perfect line before a dramatic kill shot! Iconic!
hey it's the children of the corn having a rave. eh?
No
Was it just me, or did anyone else want to see Blake actually try to kill Freddy and Jason? I know people want more Freddy Vs. Jason, but if we're getting stuck with all of these annoying teenagers, you could at least try to do SOMETHING interesting with them.
That was always my problem with these films.
Jack Clock It's just an opportunity to make some interesting characters, but they don't act on it.
Yeah. Other than Tommy Jarvis, there are no interesting for fun Friday the 13th characters.
Bolvern Yeah, maybe him and Blake could have teamed up or something. Either way, that would've been cool to have him back.
They offered Cory Felman to come back as Tommy but he declined as he wanted more money than they were willing to offer same for the original Pamela Vorheis actress
YOU THERE! WAIT! Don't scroll down the comments any further, it is absolute cancer.

Gotta say, that joke was probably a major contributing factor as to why that kill got the Golden Chainsaw award.
That a good comment and original commemt. I give it a golden chainsaw
You are the one and only stranger that has ever earned my admiration so quickly.
*I disagree.* Ash's chainsaw is metal. Pikachu would electrocute him and he'd be dead. Pikachu has a knack for shocking things with its power upon reflex when it gets scared.
ai i they did it for the "Pokémon GO f*** yourself" joke.. but I agree on this statement..
Justin Russell *Boomstick
*IT IS A CHAINSAW.*
ai i thank you! I came searching in the comments legit for this!
This isn’t an episode of Pokemon it’s a joke from nostalgia critic
I still think that Freddy vs Jason was an awesome crossover, even if it's cheesy
Still one of my favorites
Need a sequel already!
@@user-dr2yz8um3d that we do my friend.
Oooh... Make Snyder and Bay make a movie with Shamalan as the director!!!! The most awful combination of all time!
And Uwe Boll as the writer.
okay we dont want mass suicides.
Paul Rodriguez: The Happening 2
Egbert i said mass suicide not the APOCOLYPSE. MASS HYSTERIA, DOGS N CATS LIVING TOGETHER!!
More like Boll the director and Shyamalan the writer
I honestly despise the "jason is afraid of water" part, could've done more for freddy finding a weakness, I dunno, maybe jason is afraid of Oh I dunno, his mother? Or the kids who;bullied him? I dunno literally anything except water
I think typically most people would be afraid of the thing that killed them..
Damn, now I want to see Ash vs Ash
Ash would win
Lol
You know, Ash
Me, too. Maybe use Charizard instead of Pikachu as his ace?
We've already seen Ash vs. Bad Ash.
Snyder and Bay. I ship it.
It all makes sense now.
🎶 I smell a spinoff series 🎶
New OTP
So is the series about the two directors teaming up to fight Shyamalan's reign of boredom, with explosions and action? Because I would totally watch that show.
Alex Paulino ,I would have said a buddy comedy about Snyder and bay sharing a room in college ( with explosions of corse ) but yours is better
Wait Jason searched for Freddys head and then he walked out all dramatic like
Venomous Gamer925 Lol
"But I frankly could not come up with an idea that I wanted to do. I feel like I drew my own personal closure to the series with New Nightmare, but New Line is going to do whatever they decide they want to do with it. There’s a certain market inevitability that dictates they will squeeze every dime out of it that they can. I wish, in a sense, that they would let it have its dignity and end with New Nightmare. Now it’s sort of like Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Freddy vs. Jason is taking something that had a lot of impact and dignity and dragging it down to another level. There's nothing that brought it up to the level where you could feel this was about some important human issues, aside from just two men smashing each other. So it didn't do it for me."
- Wes Craven's ACTUAL thoughts about this movie.
14:16 Lilo and Stitch were actually in 4 TV crossovers.
I'll just ask somebody instead because I don't get it. How does Lilo and Stitch connect to the Grudge?
@@gaminggoof1542 Daveigh Chase was the actress who played Samara from The Ring. She was also the voice of Lilo from Lilo and Stitch.
@@faithhill5886 Well in the order he said it I thought the Grudge was the one he was talking about, I thought she was the one on the right
It's funny because in films you CAN actually tell them apart because Kayako (The Grudge) doesn't actually have hair covering her face
Jason: And I'm out. *falls and hits the water* Next battle will be whose reboot is worse.
Freddy: It's yours!
Jason: It's yours!
Actually, Freddy's reboot is worse than your reboot, Jason. lol
nah. I think it's the other way around. I respect your opinion, though.
Were Wolferous I agree with this comment.
Freddys reboot is definitely worse. The so called reboot for jason didn't even feel like a reboot cause it's the same shit we have seen from the Friday the 13th movies for 30 years. Teens fucking, drinking, smoking weed and getting killed.
guys, I believe its
**waving dead women and wink**
Freddy was all f**ked up in the remake. He looked like someone spilled lasagna on his face.

I lost it at Jason just saying "Aaaand I'm out" while just flopping back into the water...
