Ok so it seems like a lot of people are missing the point of this comparison, which is probably my fault for not making it clearer. The point is not to say that "Terraria is better than Minecraft, you shouldn't enjoy or play Minecraft because Terraria is more fun". I'm saying that Terraria is the perfect player experience, it does everything that people want a game to do, while Minecraft misses those things pretty hard. Terraria is cheap, there's basically no monetization, it's on a convenient launcher (steam), there's a small team of loving developers who respond to the community, the game has continued to get free updates for over a decade, and modding was made as convenient and accessable as possible for free. Like I said, Minecraft is not impossible to download and play (and mod), but it has enough annoying barriers that will keep far more people from fully enjoying the game. Whereas Terraria has basically none of those barriers. And to take things a step further, Terraria's development team is practically nonexistent compared to the massive team producing Minecraft, which ultimately is all backed by Microsoft. It's Bill Gates Vs. Redigit and somehow Redigit is able to absolutley demolish Minecraft in it's accessibility and ease of use.
As for why I chose to contrast Terraria's perfection to Minecraft's flaws, I mean c'mon I think the best selling video game of all time backed by the ultra giga-corporation Microsoft can handle some criticisms.
P.S. Making Minecraft models is easier than making Terraria sprites, fight me

I disagree, neither are perfect player experiences really, not exactly it has flaws too, not really it does what it is supposed to do. True, those annoying barriers do suck but Minecraft's price is fair. You act like Microsoft it self handles all of Minecraft which isn't really true. It really isn`t Bill Gates vs Redigit.
Except A. Teraria itself can be criticized for it's actual in game flaws too B. it is also one of the best selling video games of all time and C. Microsoft does not handle all of Minecraft themselves.
You got proof of that final claim? Because I doubt it is true.

in a nutshell Minecraft and Terraria are both good games but they have their own flaws they are perfect in their own way and every update that Minecraft and Terraria gives will have it’s ups and downs, also ignore the name I don’t really care about RUclips besides watching and learning enjoying myself and not stressing about making video’s besides posting art and such rarely on other social media platforms.

Not only do I unlock new content within the game for playing it and defeating bosses. but I can play the game multiple times over and have a different experience each time. Including the fact multiplayer is that easy to access, and mods are such high quality compared to Minecraft. Just showed how loved of a game it is by its community and developers. Truly a game I will miss, and one that brings a greater sense of satisfaction compared to the many times I've attempted to get back into Minecraft.

Sometimes it feels like Minecraft is on life support, and these sparse updates are just enough to give the impression that it's still "being developed"
Personally, I don't think that improving the game with more variety is "bloating" it. I mean, look at Terraria itself, the way that the game grew and expanded over the years, and the way that it reflects on the game progression itself: how you play the game and approach obstacles completely changes as you progress. Even building improves with the tools you acquire. In Minecraft, you pretty much only get better quality gear, with a few exceptions.
In Terraria, everywhere you look, there is a new thing: a new NPC, a new block, a new biome, a new enemy, a new weapon type, a new trinket, a new event, a new mount... It's like a Kaleidoscope of content. And whenever you think you've reached the "end" of what it had to give, it comes around with more stuff.

The amount of times I came back to Terraria and replayed it is uncountable. I've bought the game almost a decade ago and got about 600-700 hours in it. And almost none of those hours were wasted on main title, but playing and enjoying it. Defeating the wall of flesh, getting the rod of discord, listening to wacky jungle rock while beating a freaking plant, then defeating a moon god is unmatched and every time feels like the first. It's truly an amazing game that makes you feel, you'll get angry when a Wyvern spawns out of nowhere just because you got a block too high while fighting a boss, or you'll feel like you've just finished a shift at work when farming for said rod of discord and immense joy when you finally get to clap Moon Lord cheeks and idiot drops an item you've wanted on the first attempt. And the fact that the game is going to be updated and every update gets called "THE LAST" will always get to you and make you laugh, saying to yourself - "The madlads at it again! They're again lying about the last update of this beautiful game!"

@@Delta_Edits.2000 h player here. Have you tried doing other classes? I used to play mage a lot, played it on release of every major update (5+ times) and got bored a bit. But a few years ago, I tried ranger and Calamity rogue after that, and it was awesome. It was a feeling I had when playing mage for the first time. Just a completely new perspective on the game. How I built my arenas, how I use my armor, which stats are important etc. Fast forward to today I played every class at least 3 times, at least 1 on each difficulty (because of how those were added one after another). And after master mode on every class and Calamity death mode on rogue and summoner, I can now say that every class is equally fun just in a different ways. I still play vanilla game sometimes tho. Just building and relaxing.
And if you get bored grinding, install something like luiafk. It may seem cheaty, but I only use it for things and potions I already farmed for a lot before. Generally, using QoL mods speeds up the pacing and allows skipping tedious parts.
Pumping up difficulty with mods also helps, since it essentially forces you to either hope for luck and spend tens of tries on bosses or look for stuff to make fights easier and learn something new. I still remember times I defeated bosses on the first try by sheer luck, and times I died even though I thought I was prepared and expected an easy fight.
I hope this helps. And remember to take the brakes sometimes. Despite how I love this game I'm rarely able to play more than 2 playthroughs in a row even with different mods.

The big difference is that Terraria isn't scared to change things. Minecraft is scared to make the game too different. You could be told that Terraria released yesterday and the game does feel like that, while if you said that for Minecraft, there's too much old and outdated content in Minecraft. Mojang needs to either go back to the old style of updates, or update more old content. I personally think the first option is better, as it feels like the most well-thought-out and well-made feeling features are the older ones.

Every couple months we start a world and have fun but now we jave beat the ender dragon, wither, and even the warden a couple times, we have several maxed out worlds, with litteraly nothing new, and anything they do add is like "heres copper you cant make any gear, and it doesnt interact with anything else but it rusts over time". And any loot you get is like heres a diamond sword, it behaves EXACTLY like the wooden sword but its just better stats. In Terraria in the first 4 hours i found a staff that summons a bird on my head that fights for me, a magic wand that shoots fire, made a sword out of cactus (that has different mechanics than the starting sword), a mace, tons of potions that teleport, fly, affect gravity, a fish that summons a shark to by my buddy, and fished another shark that acts like a chainsaw, boots thay let ke slide down walls, a necklace that acts as a light source, mines probably 5 different ores, and fought probs around 20 different enemies, found all sorts of other stuff underground (including a giant nest of antlions) and i just killed the eyeball boss. And from what i saw i jave barely scratched the surface of content. Like its INSANE how you fond COOL stuff ALL THE TIME, every chest im like WHOAAA A FLUTE THAT SUMMONS SNAKES I CAN CLIMB, instead of word 2 diamonds and 9 bread and a saddle.

Instead they seem to be focused on blocks and just adding more irl animals as mobs while modders can do that and then some in 1/20th of the time Mojang can. As great as the nether/cave updates were ive lost passion for the direction Minecraft is going even as a childhood fan and instead picked up Terraria and its everything I wanted Minecraft to evolve into. Terraria makes you feel like a God by the end and MC on the other hand has 3 main bosses two of which (the wither and the elder guardians) have TERRIBLE rewards with extremely niche uses to the point where they are pretty much only worth doing for the sake of it for most players.

I think the difference is that Terraria is a thoroughly fleshed out game made out of passion and love by a small team of dedicated developers, while Minecraft has become a monetised mess with shallow updates that add features that lead nowhere and don't tie in with anything else in the game, such as copper. One focused on making their game the best it can be, while the other lives off the brand name to sell boring spinoffs to kids.

    • @SarzaelX

@@thegrayghoul4638I think it would be perfectly okay for Minecraft to have no bosses if they had a direction for their game. The End itself was always an artificial, extrinsic goal in a game where the real fun comes from making up your own goals.

If I'm being honest, I feel like Minecraft has lost its soul it used to have. The enjoyment and fun have decreased by a mile. I think everyone can agree that Minecraft rarely listen to us, nor they jump in to be part of the community, unlike the devs of Terraria.
I hope Microsoft realize just how bad their decision are by making this small and almost _meaningless_ update to Minecraft (such as the mob vote...) Because in my opinion, if this keeps going, the Minecraft we know and love could potentially meet its end.

I did some thinking on this. Sometimes I like to take a little time to process things before reacting.
So I agree largely with many of your points. And I've played both games since either their inception, or shortly after they left alpha/beta phases.
I have close to 10,000 hours in Terraria, and over 10,000 hours in Minecraft.
I would say I agree in the manner that I love the way Terraria handles development. I love the variation of magical items/mobs/ bosses/ NPC's, and even story more.
On the other hand. There's always something that somehow seems to draw me back to Minecraft, and I do go through phases where I'll enjoy one over the other more for different reasons.
At the end of the day though. I must say there's one thing I cannot deny above all else.
When I beat a Terraria world, that's it. I never return to it ever again. I will take my time building things during the gameplay, and even learned a lot about building in the game. (Mostly from Khaios I admit.) but as soon as I'm done with the moonlord. I'll take my new toys and wreak havoc on the world for a time, then I just stop playing for awhile.
Minecraft on the other hand. I feel like once I kill that ender dragon. The world is finally opening up to me.
I finally have access to some decent gear and enchantments. Now I can go farm Elytra to fly around. (Which I have all kinds of ways to fly and flying mounts by now in Terraria. I do wish they would add flying mounts to Minecraft as well. Super epic.)
Anyway. Now I can also get Shulker boxes so I can farm items enmasse so that I may take on large projects, and I'm free to move around and build.
Terraria is a lot more combat based. So I often find myself taking the summoner route so I don't have to deal with annoying enemies while I'm trying to do things in the game like building in harsh environments.
There's something about the simplicity of minecraft that allows me to chill in ways that I have never been able to do in Terraria.
I see a lot of videos hating on Minecraft these days. Even with addition of blocks.
But as a young lad, I enjoyed playing with Legos. Never one time had I thought, oh man... I have too many legos. There's too many variants here. I only found myself searching for new and creative ways to use them to make my builds even more dynamic and extravagant. I find myself in the same situation in minecraft.
Sometimes I'll go back through an entire world after an update, and update every build I've ever done, but I'll take pictures first so that I still retain the memory of how I've improved over the years.
At the end of the day, it depends on what you want to do and how you feel at the time.
One is 2d, one is 3d. One is based on the other. Both are sandbox.
So while we may disagree with certain things on either game, at the end of the day. the biggest issues only come from ourselves. They are after all... Sandbox games.
Sorry wall of text. May as well have created a video response, but meh.

And another thing I like about Terraria that you could've mentioned is the fact that the devs want to have fun making the game just as much as the players want to have fun playing it, they add random joke items just because they thought it would be funny like a whoopee cushion that drops from a worm for some reason or gravity defying cactus balls to annoy players because why not. Compared to Minecraft which feels like it has had joy slowly drained out of it with every update feeling somewhat underwhelming and lacking on some features that they promised before, Terraria's updates just drop whatever the heck the devs find useful, funny, challenging, and/or playful, and let the players have fun with them however they wish

Why Terraria is a great game:
    -It‘s cheap
    -It looks colourful
    -It‘s polished and not buggy
    -It‘s overflowing with content
    -It‘s rewarding
    -It‘s worth your time
    -You have lots of freedom
    -It has good music
    -It‘s highly replayable
-You can actually run it on a potato PC
    -It has a good community
-No shitty cash grabs or microtransactions
-Devs continue to bring meaningful updates
-It has loads of cool mods (AlchemistNPC, Calamity, Fargo‘s etc) and you don‘t have to visit sketchy sites just to download them
-And of course, the Goblin Tinkerer who constantly demands all your coins and makes you broke.
The list doesn‘t end there, it just keeps on going. Minecraft just isn‘t the same.

Minecraft's price is 2 times lower than other Triple A studio games, and it's infinitely more value than some of those that cost 60 bucks or more. And all the monetization is not only exclusive to a single of the 2 versions, but is also completely separate from the base game. Locking skins and some extra things that are free in the other version isn't IDEAL (and it's still completely cosmetic and random content that has nothing to do with the game), but claiming that as the downfall of the ENTIRE franchise, plus the claims on the pricing, feels like you have no idea what you're talking about

  • @Klaus_Kaizer

I will say, I keep playing Terraria for two reasons:
The devs add quality content and actually listen to the community.
The constant hype for new updates and weapons and content the devs pump out keeps me playing. Hours and hours have been dumped into one world that I have where I turn the entire thing into a super base for myself, so I can test and collect every item possible. Red (the creator of Terraria), interacts with the community often and is constantly asking for ways to improve the game!
    The countless ways to play.
With the 4 main classes (and countless sub-classes), the game always has a new way for you to run through and beat it! I find myself creating a new world occasionally and screwing around with a brand new character, trying out a play style I never would’ve thought of before!
Minecraft is a good game, but Terraria has had more time, love, and effort put into it. I can without a doubt say that I prefer Terraria over Minecraft.

Originally the game was made with the idea to have a game that you can just pick up and play, having virtually no restrictions (other than those in the game). It let you play the game your own way, and have fun with the community focused on its creative aspects. With that said, minecraft was meant to be a sandbox oriented game, but because of microsoft, not only did the core programming of blocks change, making it more difficult to load into worlds, but they added so many other additions to the game that feels like a cry for help to make the game as fun as it used to be.

My personal "evidence" of this is that I could run minecraft smooth as butter on most PCs, but now even on my relatively strong PC I have to deal with longer loading time and even when it loads, it's severely laggy to play properly. Like, understand that minecraft with added shaders need some of the more better and expensive graphics cards, to the point where minecraft with shaders outclasses 95% of any high quality game in terms of graphics, and the other 5% just include data bombs. Minecraft has lost a lot of it’s difficulty, and progression either gets stale or lacks it.
What Terraria gets right, is giving you various tools and rewards for defeating bosses. These rewards and tools can further help you with the other bosses, exploration, mining, etc. Everything feels connected, your work is rewarded, and the difficulty through the game keeps you on your toes.
In Minecraft, you can literally get handed a handful of diamonds, or, you take the diamonds and everything in a village with zero repercussions. The difficulty in Minecraft becomes null, thanks to it’s implementation of easy to access resources and abysmal mob AI and level scaling.
On the day a new block game to rival Minecraft drops, it’ll hopefully scratch the itch of wanting a challenge and rewarding players for their efforts.

I actually find Terraria easier than Minecraft but for good reasons
      - Terraria has better performance so its easier to dodge and react to things
      - Attacks in Terraria are telegraphed better and they have better animations so its easier to tell when something is hitting
and when your getting hit and just like the point above it means its easier to react and dodge
      - You faster in terraria, there no hunger slowing you down, and there are so many upgrades to make move in even more ways and faster
      - Terraria being 2D/third person means you can see more things coming before they hit you
      - Terraria default setting for characters is basically Keep Inventory except for money
meaning there is less loss and you can go and get back in the action and adventure faster
      - It easier to get arround the world of terraria, theres so many things you can get to move arround the world faster and you can easily get home with a recall potion or later things like a phone
      - there is a map/minimap so you never get lost
      - The item stack sizes are bigger so there are less needing to go back and forth
      - characters and worlds are seperate so you can get more resources from another world and bring to your main one if you want
      - theres more avenues to explore for upgrades and things to get an advantage before the next boss
and theres probably many more reasons

Minecraft's progression sucks. To get from 0 to diamond gear, you don't need to go on an adventure, looking for interesting structures and fighting various bosses. No, you need to find a village, breed and zombify the villagers, then get the diamond trades from an armorsmith and break and place the lectern repeatedly to get a librarian that sells Mending. After that, build an xp farm to enchant your gear and dig straight for an hour in the nether to get netherite, and voila, you have reached the top. No interesting encounters or challenges. The furniture one isn’t as bad but it’s still not fantastic, even despite the many workarounds, some people may find that what they had in mind is simply impossible or at least overly difficult to pull off and discourage them from trying similar things. It doesn’t have to explicitly be furniture but maybe just more ways to tweak tables and chairs without having too much hassle. The simple ability to right click on stairs and sit down would be even less work to implement but still give players a challenge to add a little extra creativity. That's interesting. No idea Crafters and the "Cop flop" being possible in Minecraft was an instance of avoiding player satisfaction.
Albeit, Minecraft tends to be split between PvPers, Modders, Redstone, Builders, and Casual. Those that delve into redstone wouldn't care too much about Building blocks that don't have practical applications, and PvP players want something more than what Casual provides.

@@mcihay246 Terraria does have those split as well, it's just that Terraria satisfy all those players category, while Minecraft last few years seems to be leaning into automations and block variety, but it was done in a half-baked fashion which leaves players unsatisfy.
It's one of the reason why Terraria players celebrate every "Final" updates they get.
While Minecraft Players left feeling disappointed in every updates they get.
With the coming Auto-Crafter, it's only going to be 'new' fun thing for Minecraft RUclipsr, not for casual players at all.

I lost my creativity with Minecraft years ago, before, me and my cousins would build very big, great, and sometimes questionable stuff on our superflat world, survival was more of a side quest, for us, creative was where it's at, so many ideas, so much free time on our hands, we would just go way off, building mansions, roller coasters, houses, machines, sus pixel art, you name it, sky really was the limit. And then survival became more and more popular, we got influenced, and with that, we just lost our love and passion for building.
Minecraft used to be a game that encouraged creativity, but now, it's just all gone, beating the game continuously can only keep you entertained for so long, the fun came from the buildings and magnificent art we would all create, now, this trend of "beating the game" has completely made that fun obsolete.

@@toastyboi8737well for me that’s the spark of a game, the ongoing playability! there’s mobs you can fight for a reason, and building only gets you so far (for me) it’s kinda more fun for me to get op armor, tons of villagers to sell you op stuff, building especially in survival is a hassle im not willing to do to get the materials, and i like the combat more, but i don’t like creative to just build either and i understand other people enjoy that more so it’s cool you find enjoyment in it still! i don’t sadly , i guess that’s why my preference is terraria

Why are you comparing them? They're not even remotely similar games. Just because they both have squares and building that doesn't mean they're trying to be the same thing. Terraria is, at its core, a combat focused game. It has building, yes, but it is not the focus. Minecraft is pretty much the exact opposite. It has enemies for you to fight, but they are not the focus. It is digital lego, and when you understand that, the more you will appreciate the love that goes into it. If you go into Minecraft expecting 3D Terraria, yeah, you'll be disappointed. BECAUSE THAT'S NOT WHAT IT IS

maybe it's the clickbait title or the way you put it, i don't know. i completely agree that terraria treats the community better, they embrace it with passion while minecraft feels like is against the player all the time for no reason. but the moment you start playing you realize they are very different expiriences, it's a completely different mood. terraria encourages you all the time to be stronger, to beat the next big monster, to be more efficient, to have more villagers, better weapons, cause the world is constantly hostile against you all the time and you gotta be ready. and that's amazing cause the game has a looot of bosses and mini bosses well sprayed over the map and it's an amazing adventure. i wouldn't enter to terraria to relax tho. nor spend thousands of hours thinking what's the best material for my house, terraforming the terrain, just exploring the world, finding a beautiful place to put my house. of course there are some bosses too and they are really hard, but they can wait. you can play it for months without beating the dragon or the wither or exploring an ancient city cause all of that can just wait and you just can do so much without really doing anything. minecraft is a simple game where everything feels so deep. just making your house while listening to the music, or being scared in the nether with that interestellar music. the game is all about those details. minecraft doesn't need tons of content cause it's just not what the game is about, not to defend mojang but i'd feel overwhelmed if everytime they made an update they made like 100 new objects with new biomes and stuff. besides it's a game in wich is really hard to implement new stuff without breaking the progression. terraria embrace that break, that incredible amount of content, weapon, bosses and stuff and that's cool. but they are very different games, and you just made it look like minecraft hasn't done anything great for the last decade. they are very different experiences that requires very different care, not saying it's the best but it's not completely shit if you ask me. maybe minecraft is not the type of experience you are looking for and that's cool. but the make this video without a depth analisis of what IN GAME these games do best, it's just a crime. you are just a passionate fan and that's nice, you could talk about about all those amazing things terraria do best, but to make any comparision with minecraft it just doesn't make sense to me i don't know

The ONLY fact that puts Terraria over Minecraft for me is just that I NEED mods to make Minecraft enjoyable. I have played it since 1.2.5, and I have started to see how barebones the experience is. You can argue that Minecraft is the way it is so that players have more freedom on doing whatever they want, but Minecraft is marketed as an ADVENTURE game, and it's in that aspect that Minecraft can't dream of overcoming Terraria in its state. There is so little content that it should just be marketed as a sandbox game.
Point is, you can't have adventure when there is only one way to progress and no difference from when you started, till you finished it.
