    I just got one of these to play with as a toy. I thought about upgrading it but after watching your series - I may just wait until 2029 when mini-z’s are back in stock. Thanks for all the really good videos. I have concluded that these cars are toys that can be repaired with spare parts - but quality control is very poor and upgrading it is like forcing it to be something that it isn’t meant to be.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 года назад

      If you keep the chassis stock it'll be alright. Just don't do the chassis upgrade, it's a trap. Do only electronics and consumables: radio, wheels, tyres, diff. And then you can move on to a better chassis like AMZ, GLA, etc. They are all much better than Mini-Z and you can use any electronics, battery, radio you want.

    • @Chemnut220
      @Chemnut220 3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the tip - I actually ordered the AMZ chassis-only. I would like to play with the WLtoy while I slowly add electronics/radio. I would like to use the very fast scorpion motor but I think it’s too fast. Can it be run on 1s to make it tame for small tracks? Then use 2s when I want to do a fast oval track?

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 года назад +1

      @@Chemnut220 Yes, it can. That depends on the ESC as well if it supports 1S. However I would recommend you use Surpass Rocket 5500KV bit.ly/3ircxKC . It's plenty fast enough already and you can do some gearing to slow it down. Or if you run it on a drag strip or track with very long straight then 7500KV is more than you need.

      But splurge on an NB4. I Kept looking at the RC4GS - but the NB4 was too tempting.
      Right now I drive on a home made track on my dusty concrete garage floor. Any recommendations on tires for that application?

      Unfortunately it won't be the same because if you make the plastic on the lower arms thinner to get more ball articulation, you will have the shave the part that holds the ball head in and if that gets any thinner the ball will pop out very easily.

      @@sontoshi25 Some of the metal upgrades are good. The shock tower with many holes are really good because it gives you more adjustability. Steering cups/knuckles are good if you are lucky enough to have the bearing slots machined correctly. You might need to fix the ball heads but it'll be much more durable.

Every piece that is included except for like 8 of the little fasteners had to be heavily modified and they didn't even fit through their intended holes or were just completely useless, throwing every component in proximity out of whack. Definitely the most pain-in-the-ass project car I've ever done. I still enjoy it, but man they really shit the bed on this one. And god damn do I HATE that they're Phillips instead of Hex. I have it and granted I only spent 47 dollars I wish I never bought it because my gl-racing car and even a heavily modded mr03 out drive this car 100 to 1. If you never get the drivetrain free you are just going to burn up the motor cause it sticks so bad. Hope this info helps. Thinking of getting this from hobbyking.
      (38€ atm from there & free shipping from the uk warehouse but not the eu one, ill still get a 25% vat ill have too pay probably though.)
      Just too try out something awd in this scale & i got 2x spare lipos for this car already so ill have some runtime at least.
      (If anything breaks on the car exception being the electronics board, I'll probably put the electronics into my old mini-z mr01 or mini-z monster just too have something too run besides my tomy gx buggy I've modded a bit with external lipo & a slightly longer motor, though bit uncontrollable now on my floor heh, runs well in the basement though, does about 20 - 25 km/h easily atm with the lego tires on the rear.)
      Or does the wltoys k989 fit with slim 90mm wheelbase bodies ?

      @@Mini-z1994 No it doesn't fit 90mm. You can use 98mm (standard) and 102mm (extended with included gear) body that is a bit wide. That's why I ended up using Mini-Z Honda Civic Type R body from FWD then reduce the offset and Firelap Mustang GT body.
