Amazing pics. Hard work this vlogging. Drone shots, panning time lapses and then multiple gears and microphones to film capturing the images. And all this carried during a hike with overnight sleep in the car park. Thank you for creating and posting these videos🙏🙏

Late to the party here but I've only just discovered your channel. 😃 I'll tell you the same thing I told my partner: I will not be limited by the arbitrary constraints others voluntarily inflict upon themselves for one nonsense reason or another.. I will go out and take six hundred pictures if I want. I will mix and match genres, slipping from landscape to street to wildlife and not bat an eye. I would rather go home with an over abundance to choose from than regret all the images I could have took....and didn't. Not every image needs to be award winning. I find beauty everywhere, including in the ordinary. And for me, photography is 100% about finding that beauty.

    Another great video, Gary.
If I may offer a wee tip: I noticed you kneeling on the rocks. As a military man I've been issued with a set of knee pads; out with the camera once I was kneeling down to set the tripod low and wished I had my knee pads with me. They've been an integral part of my kit since. Your knees will thank you.

Thanks for that, Gary. I found the same problem with sunlight entering the viewfinder. The 1Dx has a mechanical shutter to close the viewfinder but with my 5D3 my wife made me a small blackout bag that just slips over the hotshoe and covers the viewfinder. Works a treat.

Great location, which I photographed for the first time just over a year ago before the first lockdown hit us. It's a real challenge to get an image of the water running up the channels and being able to see through both holes in Blackchurch Rock, which I failed at miserably as that relies on being there at the exact right moment. However, really like your image with the rockpool in the foreground. Somewhat surprised that this was your first ever visit to Devon, which has some really great locations.

Brilliant and beautiful. Wish I’d known about this location 30 years ago when we last visited Devon and Cornwall. There was a great pub over by Welcombe Mouth as I recall. Which reminds me we haven’t seen your drinking buddies in a long time…. As I remember there were some terrific brew pubs in the south. Starting with the Anchor in Peranthnew? And working around the coast. Hope you have a chance to check them out and report back….

When I made night photos with my DSLR I used to use a blob of Blu-Tak over the eye-piece to block the light. The next camera had a shutter over the eye-piece and I don't have that problem with mirror less.
Each photo builds on the previous, nothing like watching the evolution of "working the shot."

Brilliant video and great pictures. It's a lovely location but I found it's not the easiest place to photograph, probably just me. And yes 'quite slippy'. North Devon has a stunningly rugged coastline with lots of small harbours. I'm planning to photograph it all from the Somerset Exmoor border to the Cornwall border and started exploring some remote parts of the South West Coast path first. Enjoy. Grab a decent pasty too.

Too many pictures? Naw. My favorites almost always seem to be the first few, but you never know until later on the big screen. Iron? Yah. Legs? Some men are meant for kilts and shorts… some aren’t. I have no bragging or criticizing rights there mate. I never crop in camera there is so often different compositions I didn’t initially see. Brilliant and wonderful images Gary.

A Tip: I always wind some duct tape on one of the legs of my tripod. One of the often uses for this is, to use a small portion of the duct tape to close the viewfinder during a long exposure (your issue of stray light solved...). It has many other uses as well - I even once did a 1-hour star trail photo by taping a small portion of a stick to the shutter button in bulb mode because I forgot to bring my remote release cable.

I remember commenting on them legs along time ago when you were in the Lake District & you took off your shoes & socks, rolled up the trousers to get in the lake. I was in Exmoor last week & cut the holiday short after 4 days of cloudless blue sky. Nice to see you down in my part of the country Gary. Maybe you made it to Nuns Cross Farm Eh! The reference to the iron was a flat iron or am I showing my age.... Maybe when I am up on Exmoor in October I will have a venture to this location. Stay safe my friend & thank you.

I believe that there are nmany pictures at anytime. We always find some of them better than the others, sometimes the good ones are worst in a second or a third look. I personally tak many many photos. They don't cost anything to me. I can always discard them at any time. Thanks for sharing your work and the tutorials about your work.

I occasionally have that same issue with the sun coming over my shoulder creating rear-flare (?) on the images. I now carry a small black cloth (~ 12x24) and a couple of wood clothes line clips to hold it in place from any wind. The reason for the length is to not only block the viewfinder, but also the landscape filters from that same strong light as I did get some 'flare' from them one time also. Doesn't weigh much so why not?
