One woman even said she does not feel ripped off but rather like being robbed. Some people were in Spain and Turkey this year and said that Spain is way cheaper than Turkey and one person said that for the price of 1 week holiday in Turkey this year he could spend 3 weeks holiday in a nice country in Europe instead with much better service than in Turkey. Foreigners with Ikamet do not get the museum card anymore, so they permanently live here, Some have local jobs with a local salary, some live from their savings and can pay touristy prices all year round now. I just came back from Istanbul a few weeks ago. While I loved it, it certainly wasn’t cheap for food, unless you went to where the locals were. However, as someone from the US, anywhere else, I was quoted prices that would raise my eyebrow in the states…there was definitely a feeling of being hustled quite a bit. However, outside of Istanbul, I met many many humble and honest people 🥰
nowadays everywhere is very expensive, even local areas.. even poor areas.. quality and service dropped a lot and prices hiked a lot. A Total dramatic change in Turkey, quite a bit decline. I am from there.. I lived in Europe, came back and couldn't believe how much lower quality of everything costs much higher. So it is not only done to tourists - although more hike would make it worse, it is to everyone.
Things overall seem to be generally cheaper in Antalya than in Istanbul. But there is much more work and money in the big cities, especially Istanbul, and not much in Antalya except for tourism and related stuff.
When I was in Turkiye in 2022, prices were very low, generally about 25-35% of what they would be in the US. Now, it appears to be more like 50-60%. But that apartment price was amazingly low for a short-term rental.
Hi there I’m planning to visit Antalya or turkey in general this November from Canada and l wonder what’s like to rent an apartment for 3 months and how easy , cheap $200 is it
@@fuazi5833 Turkiye is getting more expensive. Some people are choosing to go to some of the less popular Greek Islands because they are less expensive. I think you will need to budget much more than $200 per month.
Thank you Olga for the update. Comparing Portland Oregon USA, prices for eating out, compared to what you showed there, comparable meals here would be 2x to 4x higher and roughly 2X to 3X for the same for groceries. As far as hotels, expect to pay at least $150 to on average $200/night for a most basic room that is not overrun with drug or gang activity. Mid-range hotels this summer in popular areas are averaging about $250-400 per night, and luxury room as high as $1500per night. Apartment rentals have gone up about 300% in the last 5 years. A basic studio typically start around $1200month to Two bedroom flats start at about $1800 and average $2000 or more. $1,000/month gets you a bedroom with a shared bath and possibly kitchen. The cheapest room on Facebook was a room in a barn with no running water, or heat, and literally out-house for $500/month (No joke). If my Landlord kicks-me out of my rent-controlled place she could at least double the rent to about $2300/month. I paid $550 6 years ago, If that happens over 100% of my retirement pension would go for rent alone, so at that point I, like Millions of Americans, I would be homeless, and judging from your update Olga, 'Turkey' seems like a possible escape option. The other being going back to S.E. Asia, maybe getting a long-term sea-view condo in Penang and spending time in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia with border runs. Something many Americans might consider if they only were aware of the option.
@@jackoneil3933 for us who lives in America and your only income, for example, $2000 a month in Social Security, you can live in any of the countries that you mention very comfortable because the majority of natives don’t even make $500 a month. my brother moved from San Francisco to morocco.
Rent controlled places can NOT be incerased above gov.mts set percentages.. usually No more than 5% even if for a new comer tenants..while the rest you said are ok..
@@efeend1 Thank you, can you clarify if you are you referencing the U.S. or Turkey? In the U.S. rent control laws can vary widely depending on state or city. Where I am in the State of Oregon, Rent Increases pegged at state cost of living rates plus few percent. So I've been seeing 7 to 15% annual increases, but if a renter moves out and the landlord does new paint they can raise the rate to what every the market will bare. In my area the market rental rates are 2X to 4X the rent controlled rates, so many Landlords harass and terrorize renters until they move out. Plus, here you need 3X to 5X the monthly rental rate in income to qualify to rent. In that case most people would need $6000 $12,000 per month in Income to rent, and few have that much income, so people are trapped in bad properties, with bad landlords and dangerous neighbors. And now that the U.S. Supreme court has ruled cities and states can criminalize homelessness, many Americans with 2 to 4 times the income of many Europeans begin forces to live as criminals in their vehicles has become a terrifying and hopeless situation. Right now people I know who said they would never leave America are looking for places to escape to.
Thank you for sharing Olga .I am planning a trip to Turkey and hopefully will visit Antayla....looks like an amazing place ....keep up the good work n thanks for all the tips ..best Amrita New York 😎
Prices in each country should be adjusted for the citizens of those countries... in this case Turkish people... the most important thing is they to be able to afford things
I just got back from there last week. I was there the same days lthree years ago and I have to say that there was no dramatic change in prices... Some increase but nothing serious.
For us it felt double prices (in USD/EUR) compared to 3 years ago. In TL price are around x3-x4. We made a similar video back then too ruclips.net/video/LkmKJdYiuak/видео.html

Hi Olga...Love your work!...I have a question that you may be able to help me with....My mother wants me to take her to turkey as she has never been but has always wanted to go. Im happy to take her but she is elderly, she can walk fine but i would say 10 - 15 min walks are probably the longest walks she could probably endure. The kind of vibe she would want is a beach vibe whilst probably still being able to catch a taxi or local transport to maybe some other areas for sight seeing etc ( she would like the beach vibe but she would not enjoy being on the beach for a whole week) Do you have any suggestions of places i could research?
Hi! You should consider Antalya. Old city is very walkable, as well as Konyaalti beach promenade. In the Guide I have a 6-day itinerary where I made all activities on the same day close by
❤ Thank you was looking for such blog as I want to travel this year what is the best time to visit turkiye also looking for blog on other turkish cities also couch surfing options are they safe in turkiye

Hi! There is no tipping culture in Turkey, not like in the US. You can leave a tip if the service/food was really good, maybe 10%. But otherwise a tip is not expected.
Thnx 4 the video. It's my first time on your channel. What's the name of the hotel you were staying in? You said it's going to be in the description, but there's nothing in there . Would you please provide the name of the hotel? Thanks.

I like your videos very informative ❤ last year in October I went istanbul your right turkey prices going if you don't mind can I have this apartment link I like to for next holiday ❤
Turkish inflation went down from 75% to 48% . New statistic shows that it may go lower, but it’s not this year probably second quarter of next year. Turkiye has lots of ambargo from EU and USA. They are stop dropping ambargo one by one
Im here at moment and I can tell you guys if you see my comment, beautiful city, delicious food, service depends, but the prices are ridiculous and beware of taxi drivers and avoid them (use public transport as much as you can) watch always prices before you buy or consume and also before using your credit card. I travel a lot with my wife and I can tell you, this was the worst experience I had and I will never come back here unfortunately. Nevertheless thank you for your video it helps a lot people.

Hi, you can watch our apartment tour here (1 year rental) ruclips.net/video/LyshAyuUNV4/видео.html But unfortunately you probably won’t find such prices anymore, especially not for foreigners, maybe a room in a students’ neighborhood. With smaller budget I’d recommend looking into Da Nang ruclips.net/video/juwBA0jLpy0/видео.html
Greetings Olga and Rene , I loved my time in Turkey.. and yes prices have gone up. But also the exchange rate. When I was there the dollar what's around 19.. now it's 33.. so we've gained quite a bit. It's still much cheaper than Europe it's still cheaper than America.. and I agree I like a place of a kitchen.. I have not seen a dishwasher in a long time 😂😂😂.. very nice video.. keep smiling and stay safe 💕
I used XE converter. But this video was published on August 11th, conversion rate is probably already different, as well as prices in TL. So basically converting August prices now won’t make any sense :)

When it come to taxi scam, there is no safe country. From JFK NY airport to Brooklyn, NY about 25 min, someone paid $600. He was new in the country and he thought this was normal price.
Turkiye is usually safer than many countries including some european countries. Because of high inflation just watch for the prices. Stay away from solicitors if there is
most of those foreigners are not living there anymore for a couple of years. so you can’t blame the inflation on foreigners. time to see the real reason.
Prices in Turkey are much lower compared to those in the UK or EU, and the quality of goods is significantly higher, giving you great value for your money. When people mention that prices in Turkey have risen significantly, can anyone point out a place where prices haven’t gone up? Price increases are happening everywhere, not just in Turkey.

That's a lot indeed. There is a tram station at the Mall of Antalya that goes directly to the airport. Unless you are with a large group and have heavy baggage, I'd recommend going by tram.

I still think Antalya is cheaper than many European cities. 🌍💵 Sure, prices have gone up, but it's still a bargain compared to places like London or Paris!
I agree to disagree about taxi drivers in Istanbul being scammers. If you insist on the metered fare (i.e. the meter system that is issued by the government), then it's not an issue. I'd take information with a bucket of salt regardless the source of information and credibility of the content creator/blogger etc.
I'd say if a taxi driver doesn't turn on the meter by himself, without asking, it's best to get out of that car. He wanted to cheat and he will find a way - like not giving you change or taking a longer route. But not every driver is like that of course. When we lived in Antalya all our experiences with drivers were positive. They would always turn on the meter as soon as we get in the car, without asking. In Istanbul, however, driving in the city centre would often involve some sort of trick by the driver :(
Heres something off topic that you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old. Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye' we got various spellings like; Turq-uía (in Spanish), Turch-ia (in Italian), Turq-uie (in French) Turk-ei (in German) Turk-ey (in English) Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named turkey.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German, but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years. Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)
Looks a lot cheaper than the UK for food still (price hikes in the UK too), you're showing fast food meals for £3, you pay that just for a portion of chips/fries in the UK these days. A fast food meal like shown in the video is £9/10 . Not your standard prices, but I went to a food festival recently in the North of England and they wanted £10 for a single corn dog among other things! Never seen such a rip off. Eating out is very expensive in the UK now. You need a mortgage to go out. Based on this video - holidaying in Turkey is still cheap comparing to the UK.
Yeah, I agree and said so in the video. Even though prices in Turkey doubled compared to a couple years ago, it's still a bit cheaper than in Western Europe. Although I can't imagine how hard it must be for locals, whose salaries are much lower than European salaries.
I was Antalya last moth, prices are crazy expensive for turkey, soup for 4 eur? In Slovakia is 2-4 eur, and turkey shouls be much cheaper than Slovakia…. Last year in Ankara prices were about half. Btw the soup was no fancy place, it was some random place near bazar

Likely reason is distance to/from beaches 30 minutes by walking.
@@stevegfromnc3482 even paying half of the North American price, sounds great to me!
@@jackoneil3933 hello Sir, I am from Indonesia. Here US$ 16 you will get a luxurious bedroom in a hotel per night.
I miss living in Oregon. I lived there between 2013 and 2018 mostly in Corvallis. What can I say, I'm a beaver ^_^
Btw its a legal requiremnet in turkey for restauremts to display their prices on the shop front.

The kind of vibe she would want is a beach vibe whilst probably still being able to catch a taxi or local transport to maybe some other areas for sight seeing etc ( she would like the beach vibe but she would not enjoy being on the beach for a whole week)
Do you have any suggestions of places i could research?

The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'......
.....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :)
In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully.
Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages,
but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :)
Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's.
The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to',
just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like
Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc.
Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like
Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on.
Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye'
we got various spellings like;
Turq-uía (in Spanish),
Turch-ia (in Italian),
Turq-uie (in French)
Turk-ei (in German)
Turk-ey (in English)
Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas.
In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German,
but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years.
Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas.
Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : )
So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : )
Best wishes. ;)
Olga Egypt is much cheaper.
