Waterproof Coolers- Leak Testing Budget, Roto Molded & Soft Sided Coolers
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 апр 2019
- One of the most common questions we repeatedly receive is in regards to coolers leaking. This is a big concern you plan to leave a cooler in the back of a SUV and the cooler were to turn over. The same goes for rafting coolers which do not want river water to enter the cooler.
*NOTE*
Not all coolers are intended to be water tight as they are compatible with dry ice which must be able to vent.
After testing all of these coolers for ice retention we decided to test them for leaking. We rocked the coolers back and forth and turned them on their sides to determine if the cooler would leak or not. Multiple roto molded coolers are waterproof and even one budget cooler manufacturer did not leak. We also found multiple soft coolers which did not leak.

This guy doesn't strain, very relaxed with his communication, easy to listen to👍
Dude I have to say you really worked hard for this review with haha! Thanks again.. Great review!!! Sold me on lifetime cooler..
Thanks for watching!
Great tests as usual! It would be nice if you could remind us during each leak test how the cooler held up with the ice test and the retail cost. Thanks for what you guys/girls do. Doug
The Ice Retention Test is here: ruclips.net/video/_0YmWvLvcRA/видео.html
Thank you for all the videos to help me make a decision! I appreciate knowing that the roto molded ice test, then leak test were from the same exact units! Very helpful!!
I never thought to look for that. But the time you have to put a cooler in your cat that is supposed to be leak proof, then find out you got hopefully just water- all over your back seat, it is very discouraging. Lifetime coolers 👍
Thanks man
Thanks for the leak test, missing component (and almost as important as Ice retention for me) from so many reviews out there. It looks like the lifetime 28 will suit my needs just fine.👍🏻
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching.
I just for the Lifetime 28 and can't wait to use it in the wild.
Thank you for your reviews. I just picked up the Lifetime 77 for an up coming trip based one these videos.
Awesome. Keep us posted on how you like it!
All of these cooler videos are really great and informative. Thank you!
Lifetime & Otterbox were impressive. Great test!!! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
I'd love to see you do all the tests for any of the Rovr's! Great videos. Thanks.
That name keeps popping up, we will definitely have to add them to the list!
Have a Happy Easter !! and thanks again
Thanks Brian, you too!
impressive LifeTime coolers for NOT leaking. your video comparison is even More impressive.
Good video for the rafting folks. Don't want a bunch of river water getting into your cooler when your boat flips.
Yea, good point, we've had quite a few rafters ask the same.
I just bought the 77 lifetime!!! Great investment...
Nice, hope you enjoy it!
thank you for the video this cooler that will get will be in the Jeep it'll be bouncing around big help keep up the good work
Always wanted a jeep! Just been to cheap to buy one.
Great video as always. I have noticed that the gasket in roto coolers often have a small opening where one end meets the other. Usually no more than 1 or 2 mm. It's always on the backside around the middle. I am guessing that might be the culprit for the Orca and Kongs. Just a thought. Thanks for the vids
Yes, you're right, thats usually where the culprit of the leak lies.
Thanks for the research!!! Great videos!!
Thanks for watching!
great job and very thorough. Very helpful and timely as I'm sure many of these will be going on end of the season sale. Curious to know about the Monoprice emperor coolers. They also have some soft sided ones too. thanks
Thank you! Many have asked about Monoprice, they are on our list to test. Thanks for the suggestion.
I like to see a back pack cooler review.... Thanks for your time great video
We have one a couple of them here: www.coolersonsale.com/how-to-choose-the-best-soft-sided-cooler/
Great review! Thank you! 👍
LIFETIME are definitely the way to go. I have my second one getting shipped and should be arriving my house any day.
Fantastic video charlie & brittany
Happy easter to your family
Thanks, you too!
Great video!!! Thanks for doing this.
Also, you forgot to list the Lifetime 70qt. That one didn't leak either.
When can you test the Grizzly? I'm making a purchase soon and been leaning toward the Grizzly 40.
QC/RD department of these coolers need to watch your videos. For a $250+ cooler, I would expect it not to leak.
Awesome video as always! I wonder if the Engel deep blue leaks?
Does the nICE 45 leak water or is it water tight. Thanks your videos are amazing.keep up the great work.
Would really like to see a review/comparison of the Rovr cooler!
We will try to pull this together. Thanks for the suggestion.
Wow your videos really helps. That that i nearly cant get any of these coolers here. The Otterbox is the one. But i have the choice between, coleman, dometic ice box and now the lifetime. Do you now if the dometic ice box is leaking and how lond does it keep the ice?
Definitely curious to know if any of these leakproof/water proof coolers float. Maybe AO vs Yeti hopper/flip vs Polar bear. I just purchased a hopper 2 and hoping its boyant enough to tow along while floating down a river. Hoping i made the right choice !
Going to have to get me one of those OtterBox coolers
They are pretty awesome! Our new favorite along with Kong.
@@CoolersOnSale I go fishing /crabbing and shrimpping all year long (or in season).. Wonder how it would hold up to long 4 times a week use here in the Pacific Northwest.. Or even in colder season when crabbing.
Want to see more Rctic coolers vs lifetime coolers. Specially Rctic 20 vs lifetime 28 Thank you :)
Well damn! Both my techni ice and HD30 leaked water lol oh well.
FYI. I was on the Techni ice website yesterday and it looks like they have updated the soft side cooler bags and came out with some new rotomolded coolers. They look rotomolded and have a seal but don’t look thick on the walls like the signature series.
Super awesome, I think I'm gonna buy a lifetime cooler next time I'm at Walmart
Would love to see a video on the Igloo IMX - i believe there’s only about 4 videos on them.
I got My LIFETIME 28qt cooler never leaks love it..the Ozark 26qt pricey and on top of that leaks..no bueno
Awesome to hear. Thanks for sharing.
Can you test the Ozark 60qt with wheels see how strong and see if leaks
I think you may want to annotate that the Engel HD30 doesnt leak... That water is coming out of the accessory pouch. I've never had any leak from my Engel and actually bought it at your suggestion. It dominated the soft sided cooler test last year
You're right the leak was not coming from the zipper, but rather further down. Nonetheless.... it leaked.
@@CoolersOnSale the only reason that would leak is if water got poured in from the outside, that pocket is not connected to the main portion. I have the same cooler and learned the hard way that pocket is not water proof while tubing last year.
Hey there man thank for the video and those coolers that did not leak any water out of them well then I would get a cooler from Aldi's and do a review on all of those because I think the ones that do not leak will last longer with ice
I'm really interested in a bud light or Budweiser styrofoam cooler preferably one with cup holders on top but I'm a little skeptical because I don't think the handles made in the USA please do a review on how long it will hold ice and how well it will retain water flipping it sideways upside down Etc. thank you. And I really need to know if it is bear proof
Have you guys done any testing on the reyleo from amazon
Great job y’all. I’m fixin to buy both lifetimes. You by chance know anything about a brand called catergator ? Popped up when I searched lifetime coolers. Appears to be rotomolded.
No we havent, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Icer is one of the few that do not leak...is there an in depth review or comparison?
Tests the Ozark Trail coolers
Need to test a Maluna.
Hi mate, here is the lifetime not leaking, on the other video it is. Is this a different model? Thanks
Yes, they are different models. A Lifetime representative has actually commented on these videos and confirmed that they have redesigned the 55qt (the one that was leaking).
Start adding Calcutta Outdoors Coolers please? They are interesting to me because the drain plug has an led light in it for searching the cooler at night.
I’ve just ordered the bmx25, do you think it’s possible to fit a gasket on it?
Wondering the same thing.
How do you like the cooler?
I saw your review of a lifetime cooler I believe it was the 55qt and it held ice for 7 days but it leaked where the 77 quart in this video doesn't leak. What do you think would be the reason?
Lifetime redesigned the lid/gasket on the 28 and 77. The 55qt has since been redesigned as well. See the full review: www.coolersonsale.com/lifetime-cooler-review-28-55-77-qt-coolers/
Thank you, also I originally looked at Amazon where the 77 quart was over $200 but your website brought me to Walmart which I didn't even think of and it's listed there for under $150. Great videos and great website!
Do you do reviews on tumblers? Nobody has compared otterbox with yeti or rtic.
We have reviewed tumblers in the past: www.coolersonsale.com/yeti-rambler-mugs-lids-lowball/ No Otterbox yet, but we can add it to the list.
No comparison lol OTTERBOX would dominate.
Have u tested any rtic coolers?
What about the rtic hard side and the rtic day cooler?
Coming in the next test, we already have the RTIC 65
Can you review Hogg roto molded coolers? Just purchased 110 qt for $167 dollars and now they went up to $279.99
Can you test the cascade mountain tech45qt or 80qt cooler...costco sell them and have been hearing some good reviews bit would be awsome if you would include them in you test...because I have a Costco membership and they are highly affordable!!....thanks you do a great job on you r tests!!.
My next cooler will be a Lifetime.
Solid choice!
Is there a reason why the YETI coolers don't feature in your videos?
We've reviewed Yeti many times in the past. They are far from the best in terms of ice retention so they were not included in this round of testing. See more here: www.coolersonsale.com/category/yeti-coolers/
You forgot to add the Lifetime 77 to the does not leak list in the description.
Will add it, thanks!
Can you include the Reyleo 21 qt please
Could you do a leak test for Engel hard coolers?
Sure, we can do that. Thanks for suggestion
please do an engel hd30 vs yeti hopper two 30 ice retention test, please please ..
We've done the Yeti Hopper Vs Engel HD here: ruclips.net/video/Dswmc9ip0iI/видео.html
the engel hd 30 didn't leak from the main waterproof zipper, the water came from the small gadget zipper.
Yes thats right, it was coming out the back side.
i would like to see a full review on the igloo imx 24/70
Will add it to the list!
nice... thanks!
Y’all should do Rtic reviews
Currently testing the RTIC 65qt. Video should be up next week. Stay tuned.
Appears the Kong’s are leaking right where the gasket splits in the back. I wonder if you just filled the gap with 5200 or something similar would it solve the issue.
Ha ha, another man that loves 5200. We carry a tube of Goop just about everywhere we go! Many manufacturers leave this gap in the gasket so that the cooler is dry ice compatible.
Ah I got ya, didn’t know that. Well as long as I don’t carry dry ice I’ll be good lol.
Have you tested a Canyon Cooler?
Great job guys (and gals)! How about the new Kid on the block... the Monoprice Emperor 50 (80) qt for both Days cold and water Leakage ?
We can add them to the list. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@CoolersOnSale Although Price/Performance I'm liking the Lifetime cooler, and as Tested it is a NO Leak cooler!!! (found it in a 77 qt)
Thanks, I bought a Lifetime 55 based on your tests.
Awesome, let us know how you like it!
the leak proof cooler could yall Include the Igloo Imx cooler
Added to our list! Thanks for the suggestion.
What about a rtic or ozark trail
Impressed by the lifetime....
Us Too!
Thanks Phillip Rivers
Anyone know if cordova cooler leaks or good seal??
How does the Pelican Elite 45 wheeled version fair in this challenge/test?
..and/or the newer Pelican 50qt version
We've tested Pelican many times in the past: www.coolersonsale.com/pelican-coolers-vs-yeti/
Does the Yeti leak ?
I’m interested in the driftsun 45
We'll add it to our list!
How would we order these coolers
Also I'm surprised the techni ice leaked. I would assume they would have a tightly sealed cooler going by how long the ice lasts.
I looked in to them before I went budget lifetime cooler, They have a double seal that is intended to allow dry ice to vent, This is the reason why they will leak. If they offered an Ice only cooler then I do not think they would leak. From all the reviews Lifetime seems to be a great cooler budget wise and Ice retention.
So lifetime 55Qt leaks but 77 and 28 doesn't?
In our testing, yes, because we had the previous design 55qt. The lid/gasket has since been redesigned.
With the new lid design the 55 does not leak anymore and retains ice longer.
You should put some frosted frog coolers
As a teacher I need a cooler on wheels for field trips. What cooler would you recommend to carry lunches and drinks for 20 kiddos?
The best "wheeling" cooler is the Igloo Trailmate: amzn.to/2ImvXQE It was the easiest rolling and handled bumps/terrain the best. I think this should definitely hold enough drinks/Ice.
$250? That’s more than any teacher I know can afford to spend on a cooler!
This would be a second, much more affordable, option: amzn.to/31I55ST
Coolers On Sale thank you so much!!!!
No problem!
Dry ice freezer test!!
We've tested dry ice here: www.coolersonsale.com/how-to-use-dry-ice-in-a-cooler/
@@CoolersOnSale missed that one
No worries!
Still waiting on the Ozark Trail roto molded
Will bring it in!
Whoot I have the 56qt Lifetime... I got it last year based on their reviews on it.
Awesome to hear, they make a solid cooler, especially for the price.
All your videos make me very thirsty
What happen to yeti? I know it never wins but it's a good benchmark... also still no test for the rtic?
We've tested them many times. However, they do not last as long as many of these coolers. You can see that test here: www.coolersonsale.com/ultimate-ice-challenge-results/
Why didn’t you do yeti
We've tested many Yeti cooler in the past. www.coolersonsale.com/category/yeti-coolers/
I picked up the Lifetime 28qt at Walmart.
Yeti hopper. Can you please shoot a yeti hopper?
We've reviewed the hopper here: www.coolersonsale.com/how-to-choose-the-best-soft-sided-cooler/#Results
Yeti was conspicuously absent, but I would also like info on the Pelican and Magellan(Academy sports) coolers.
They were absent on purpose.... they don't hold ice as long as these coolers we tested. We have tested Yeti and Pelican many times in the past. See here: www.coolersonsale.com/coolers-like-yeti/
Any Yeti test?
We've done a bunch of Yeti Testing in the past. Do you mean leak testing only?
@@CoolersOnSale I'm curious if the yeti's leak, specifically the yeti 35.
Engel 65qt
Otterbox for the W
love my lifetime 55 Qt
They are really solid coolers!
@@CoolersOnSale really appreciate your videos guys!
Pelican?
If water comes out, air gets in.
I’m a little disappointed in the orca
It was minor, but did leak. Keep in mind this cooler is several years old as well.
Rtic 20qt
Where is yeti
We've already tested them many times in the past. www.coolersonsale.com/yeti-cooler-tundra/
I KNOW WHY THE KONG LEAKS...
I just received a Kong 70 red & grey model in the mail today. I purchased it only from the many reviews on it. Opening it I noticed a big 'ol gap in the seal on the lid. The gap is in the back part of the cooler near the hinges. It is at least 3/16" maybe a 1/4" gap. No wonder they leak!
If I press on the lid I can hear the air easily whoosh right out of that gap in the back of the lid, right where it is leaking in the video. If I press and release rapidly it sounds like the darn cooler is breathing. It takes very little effort to make that happen.
Out of all the reviews I have seen nobody ever mentions that gap in the seal. That's like the first thing I noticed. And it's not like a cosmetic flaw or something. That has an impact on the functionality and integrity of the cooler. If I would have had a chance to physically see the cooler before purchasing it I would not have bought it.
Do all of the rotomolded super-coolers have the same flaw in the seal, or just the Kong?
Many of them do. I will reach out to Kong about this, but my gut tells me many of them have to be this way. The reason, if they are air tight they cannot handle dry ice.
@@CoolersOnSale, thanks for your reply. It seems like it should be a solid seal like a refrigerator and a freezer.
Darn. Thanks for the comment. I was just about to order the kong 25 because my bmx 25 leaks all over my work truck backseat and in my wifes SUV. I guess I'll have to rethink things.
wow, if coolers leak, they can't keep ice long let alone food. thanks
If water comes out, warm air can get in..
Indeed the truth! It was coming from an area where the handle was attached. We also had a beta version of this cooler so that very well could be the issue.
