Cooler Test | Lifetime 55 vs Ozark Trail 52 vs Yeti 65

  • This week, it's the battle of the 50+ qt coolers. Ozark Trail's 52 qt challenges both the Lifetime 55 qt as well as the Yeti 65 qt. To compensate for the slight differences in volume, we gave each the same amount of ice and left them in the sun. After 4 days, we measured how much solid ice was left, by weight. The results were surprising!

      Have to disagree; I have the Tundra, hopper 30m, 128oz rambler and the Silo6G and universally hold ice 5days+. Not sure why people bag on yeti. Yeah, its overpriced but if you're going on a week trip nothing beats it. They also have a great warranty and replace smaller parts at very very reasonable prices.

      Agreed. I wanted a Canada Goose coat because my kids play hockey. (I asked people I ran into who had them on and tried one on like Neiman Marcus or somewhere. Boy was there a difference in those coats and my normal one.)
      I seriously saved up for one for my 40th birthday. (Mind you I dont buy jewelry, everything is usually bought on clearance at gap, etc. Purses are from Boscov's which is fine also.)
      Ended up not getting one and now just layer up. Not worth getting killed over a coat.

At their home site it runs 179.00 + tax. I like it alot and was ecstatic about the price for this high performance cooler. Great video as well, it sets my mind at ease. should remember though to leave the latches undone when storing to avoid stretching the rubber clasps.

    I own and use a lifetime and I love it. Camped for 4 days near Shasta California and it held ice better than any of the cheap coolers or old school steel band coolers I’ve used. Having said that, I think the enemy of any cooler is dead air space. If that’s accurate, than the yeti was at a disadvantage from the start, but even considering that in my mind I will still buy a lifetime before I buy a yeti. American 🇺🇸 made, affordable price, holds ice for DAYS. Great video. I appreciate the fact that you went the extra mile and weighed out the remaining ice. 👍🏻

    • @treasurethetime2463
      @treasurethetime2463 2 года назад +1

      Absolutely correct. You can't compare different size coolers with the same amount of ice. It's physics. For a dramatic example, fill a Stanley thermos with ice cubes. Now take that same amount and put it in a 50qt cooler. The Stanley will have ice for days. The cooler for HOURS.

  • @mp-xt2rg
    @mp-xt2rg 3 года назад +17

    When you test the coolers fill them to the same percentage of space. A larger cooler has more surface area and will melt faster than a smaller cooler of the same efficiency if both loaded with the same amount of ice.

    Could tge lifetume have fared better tyan Yeti because of its placement between the yeti and ozark trail coolers? Thats a lot less surface exposed catching sunlight and heat for the lifetime than the other two? Only question I had I just saw this cooler in WallyWorld and thought Id check some reviews. Great Job...

    Just bought one at Wal-Mart (same price) you mentioned- $97). I've decided to give it a try as I really love my Igloo Sportsman but I needed something larger. I haven't used it yet but I did another simple test that I saw on another RUclips video where one can check to make sure the foam insulation is injected (in-between the plastic walls) evenly and completely). Put a bright flashlight inside the empty cooler, latch it down and turn off the room lights. If the insulation is uniform you should see no light. (The only light I barely saw with this cooler was the drain plug as it is not insulated). Same with the lid seal. This cooler is undoubtedly sturdy and an exceptional price when compared to the $350 Yeti. Yeti makes great products, no doubt but you also are paying for the name. For the $250 I'm saving, I'd rather spend that on a tent upgrade or a better backpack, sleeping bag, etc.

What unfortunately tends to happen though is that once videos like this come out, the winners tend to see an increase in sales, so they start increasing the price, which also sucks.

    I bought the Lifetime a year ago. I absolutely love it! However, your experiment as a flaw, though minor. The lifetime chest was set in the middle very close between the other two. You may not realize it, but that created a small insulating effect on the ends of the chest. If you'll recall, the 3 day check revealed that the Ozark and Yeti had more melting on the ends than the Lifetime. That's due to that insulating effect of being very close to the other chests.

      Yeah I had a good old $35 Coleman on wheels that performed as well as my buddy's yeti on a weekend camping trip. I think unless you're packing these types of coolers full to the top and not opening them for a week there isn't really a benefit to the yeti's and the like. If you get into your cooler constantly for drinks or food I think the performance is similar. There's definitely a place for yeti's and the like but it's not for an evening out or weekend trip necessarily.
