This really struck home. Nice rainy day here and I'm contemplating a new job offer. Quandary is, be trapped in the race another 10 years with the new job that pays twice what I make now for double the hours but also comes with a HUGE cost of living increase due to crazy housing costs. Or, stay put existing on just what I need and have more free time and possibly retire in 2.5 years. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I liked the wisdom you conveyed in your video and, at the same time, there's an assumption that people have sufficient disposable income to choose to cull on unnecessary "wants." Unfortunately with the housing crises (present in many countries now but I happen to live in the UK), many people's disposable income has been considerably reduced due to extremely high housing costs and stagnating low wages. And what income is left, after paying essential housing and bills (utilities, council tax and food and transport for work), can be incredibly tiny. Most times I try to save that incredibly tiny amount for emergencies but many people aren't even in the position to do that. I think the advice to try and do what you value and give to yourself first each day is still relevant (there are low-cost goals that people put off) but I think the overarching advice around culling things is only relevant if you have an adequate surplus of disposable income to begin with i.e. money that you can casually spend without giving much thought to it - such as eating out an unplanned meal, going to a concert on the spur of the moment.

Another great video! I like the list idea! Have you looked at the Gregory Hayes and Robin Waterfield translations of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations? I liked them a lot. Ryan Holiday writes a lot about Seneca and the Stoics at his Daily Stoic website.

I clicked because I was hoping for another Elsa cosplay.... so disappointed :-) & it's hard to prioritize your own needs, because for some reason, it feels selfish.... Do you want to build a snowman?
