It could have been really helpful and informative if u could have shown us the full suit in the video rather than showing us only the top which is also visible until the top two buttons of the jacket 👍🏼
Your height is good enough and is more towards the average side . World wide avg is 175 cm You aren’t really short so I believe u will pull off the double breasted suit in an amazing way
Its absolutely okay for shorter men to wear double breasted suits, it all a matter of proportions. The same can be said for a larger man wearing a suit, lapels, vents, pockets all need to come together to make the suit fit the person who is wearing it, i.e. the man should be wearing the suit, not the suit being worn on the man, there is a difference and if men do not know the difference, they need to read and or watch more on FIT and how it FUNCTIONS with the FABRIC with the individual wearing it. Great video, keep'em coming, as your advise is not just good for the vertically challenged but for EVERYONE who wishes to look not just good but the best they can be in their clothing!
Damn that's risky but good luck to you man. The greater the risk the greater the pay as I always say. Here I am at 5'7.5-5'8 (Not exactly sure) doubting that I can pull off a 4x2.
Great topic! I am also thinking about a db suite. I think I will give it a try. The tips are good. Thank you! But I disagree with the 3. rule. The top two buttons on a 6x2 or 6x1 are just decorations and they stretch you optically like the buttons at the sleeve . The more important point from my view is the high of the neckline. The lower it is the better it looks. So the buttons have to sit as low as possible. And the notches or peaks of the lapels as high as possible. Anyway, your db suit looks great on the picture at Instagram. I found a great tailor for mtm stuff. I think I will go with chalk strips or window plane. Thank you for the video! Artur
+A H Fair enough. I think it's okay to go with 6 buttons if you like it. Just have to be careful that they're spaced out correctly. Good luck with your new suit!
Good video Brock, any thoughts on three button suits and shorter gentlemen? More than double breasted suits, I have heard that 3 button suits look better on taller men.
Maybe I will try one day. Never tried one before so do not know how it looks on my body. is double breasted suit generally more expensive than normal suits?
Definitely a good look. And pulled off impeccably might I add. Day 1 StyleCon get up, am I right? Knot Standard did a great job on my very first and only MTM suit thus far (Madison Navy suit). Looks like a DB suit may have to be my second.
The only thing with 4 vs 6 button. Is which has bigger V opening. I saw some companies where 6 is more and 4 is less or reverse. Some brands have the same opening. I want the biggest opening if I can
Arrived here by mistake and what a great surprise. Great videos and advices. I am with you from now on. Any advice to shop suits and jackets in the Internet? And thanks for the great video.
A double breast really makes you feel like a unit and as a man that stands 6 ft 4 inch , my double breasted suit makes me feel like a dressed up leprechaun
1) What is your advice on peacoat specially the navy 740? 2) Do you know store that customized peacoat, not only style but also the size like the length to get a perfect fit?
Hello Mate..I couldn't find the full description foto of this suit...can you tell me where i can find it...Humphrey Bogart was short...but his db suits were just awesome....and could you plz tell me how it costed you to make this bespoke suit....very very dapper...
I invested in a double breasted suit and it's one of the best choices I made my wife says it's one of the best she's seen because you don't see them very often and it is a real head turner I did have to give it a bit of a mod tho I removed the belt loops and made some side adjuster and always wear them with braces and to kill it off good old school penny starched detachable collar with tie by to have me feeling like nucky out of broadwalk empire
You look magnificent in this suit, I got a Boggi Milano suit on a 90% sale from 1,800$ to 200$ but m confused if I need to buy it "its a last piece and need some alterations as its 1 size over mine" What do you think? Waiting a wedding to try it is strange too :) Subscribed :))
Any suggestion on places to find suits, or brands too look out for? I feel it's difficult to find suits that fit right because most brands aim for the average built gentleman or tall gentleman.
+Lenny Roman I've never bought a DB suit or jacket off the rack. The one I'm wearing is custom from a company called Knot Standard. I can't really recommend them b/c it took a lot of effort to get this suit to fit well after the initial make. Probably just had a bad experience, but still.
***** I would buy the best quality I could afford at any given time. Right now, I'm lucky to get most of my suits for free, usually as part of a sponsorship or review. But if I were to buy a new suit for myself right now, I would probably go full bespoke (never done that before), which would cost at least a couple thousand.
I’m short with very broad shoulders. Though I’m thin, young and look very nice naked, I look like a stupid monkey in a suit. Since the shirt and tie is less dominant/exposed on a DB suit, it visually corrects my wide areas and shortness.
How come I am only coming across this now? Awesome tips. We are about the same height, Brock, so can I borrow yours just once? Lol Yours is really on point!! I love it. But if a double breasted suit is limited to occasions, then I do not need one, or maybe when I'll visit England one day ;)
I have to disagree with the 4 button suit, 6 button double breasted suit is much more classic than the 4 button. I think going to 4 button is too extreme, if we have to be so extreme about our clothing, then we should all be wearing nothing but 1 button suit, or even a 2 by 1 double breasted suit! nail the fit, shorter jacket, higher armhole and that's all it takes! Even Brock himself can make mistake, for example, he avoid a 6 button configuration, but... he have a TICKET POCKET ON HIS SUIT! AND A CUFF on his trouser, compare to 6 button suit, these 2 mistakes are 10 times more serious.
Six buttons suits are proper business suits and only elegant smart classy gentlemen wear them. Only people who don’t know about these suits will say such a thing…
Does the color of a double breasted suit make a man look shorter? For example, will a black suit make a man look shorter whereas a grey may not make him seem as short?
In general, dark colors are more slimming (cliche but true). But fit is more important than color. And a suit always works well - assuming it fits - because it's one color on your whole body (no stark contrast between your top and bottom halves). So I'd say pick the color you like best and don't worry about which makes you look taller. When in doubt, though, go dark (not black...navy or grey).
Its not true... it what the companies and tailor say to avoid tailor it. they say it because it hard! I had the same problem. you can see the line of the shoulder
I don't think that double breasted suits look flattering on anybody--not even JFK, Jr.! They are as outdated as pleated pants and 3-button suits. I would recommend 2-button single-breasted suits. If you want to be a little different, then get a 3-piece suit (2-breasted suit + vest).
Sorry Frank a. You are wrong about double breasted. Pleated pants...etc. they are all very popular....put on one you are going to look awesome..SMILE ..blessed day 2 you
They just seem out of style. Double breasted suits is something you see in gangster movies. I have never personally saw anyone wear one. It is just not my style. Cliche in the sense that it seems like someone is trying too hard. Just my opinion.
The Modest Man Actually it's true, you're just in denial. Short men tend to look like a boy in a suit, not a man. To look good in a suit you need two thing's, height and a good physique. Short guys, or heavyset guys rarely look good in a suit. If you don't believe me, put them next to a taller guy who is in killer shape and you tell me who looks better. There is a reason why models are taller and not shorter, it's because they look better in the clothes that they are modeling .
If you’re actually short and not just trolling, I hope you realize someday how wrong you are about wearing suits. It’s all about fit. Any man can look great in a suit if it fits properly. Body type isn’t nearly as important as you think (look at Winston Churchill and MLK Jr.). Short and thin guys look great in suits too (look at Dave Franco or Aziz Ansari).
It could have been really helpful and informative if u could have shown us the full suit in the video rather than showing us only the top which is also visible until the top two buttons of the jacket 👍🏼
Check the video description for a full body photo of the suit.
I’m under 5’8” and love the attention wearing a DB suit gets me. If it fits well, you look solid and more powerful.
I am only 172cm and I have a tailored dark green double breasted tweed suit. Man, the suit looks awesome!
Sun Wu .....can u plz send me the pics
Your height is good enough and is more towards the average side . World wide avg is 175 cm
You aren’t really short so I believe u will pull off the double breasted suit in an amazing way
Got my friends wedding this Friday. Got it all tailored and picking it up today at 2pm. I hope all the alterations came out good
I wasn't aware that there was a problem in looking short when wearing a DBS. I've been wearing them often for 35 yrs.
under 5.9" is short??!! man then not many people should wear double breast easily
Yeah its short just if you wanna join the NBA
I am 5.9 but here in the Netherlands thats short
@@johnzwaan So it's relatively short in countries were the average height is over 5'9
Well, disagree about the 5.9" height, that's not short at all. A suit fits well if it's tailored, not matter the size.
Its absolutely okay for shorter men to wear double breasted suits, it all a matter of proportions. I'm loving all the movements and expressions, makes the videos very lively
+Malaquias Alfaro Thanks man!
I stand at 5'1.5". Just can't get to love the 4x2 jacket. Wish me luck on the 6x2.
Damn that's risky but good luck to you man. The greater the risk the greater the pay as I always say. Here I am at 5'7.5-5'8 (Not exactly sure) doubting that I can pull off a 4x2.
If nothing else, there's always trench coats and vests.
im 5'4 lmao its looks cool, I also have a 2.75' elevator shoes, I feel like Michael corleogne.
6x2 is a classic layout and defines the double breasted suit.
Me too
"Gentleman this is nonsense! Ok, there's some truth to it." Great way to grab my attention......
I like the way you explained the jacket. I needed to here a review about that type of suit. Thanks
Man what a great explanation but I'm waiting for you to fully show what you're wearing. I hope you could make a part 2 about this.
Great topic!
I am also thinking about a db suite. I think I will give it a try.
The tips are good. Thank you!
But I disagree with the 3. rule.

Good luck with your new suit!
A rather decent presentation. Intelligent, well-spoken, un-patronising. Cheers.
Decent advice, on jacket’s , but I like 6 , but can you talk about to wear the trousers correctly, the English way please.
I am so in love with double breasted suits and I am currently saving up to get a made-to-measure double breasted suit
Good tip about figure curl under jacket to confirm length
Double breasted suits are like ties, Hats, pocket watches and sticks in menswear right now. Costumy.
Good video Brock, any thoughts on three button suits and shorter gentlemen? More than double breasted suits, I have heard that 3 button suits look better on taller men.

Yeah, i think all classic menswear will suit most of body type.
The key here is the the fit and the proportion
The only thing with 4 vs 6 button. Is which has bigger V opening. I saw some companies where 6 is more and 4 is less or reverse. Some brands have the same opening. I want the biggest opening if I can
May I also suggest that omitting a ticket pocket will unclutter the jacket, and help the eye travel vertically over the length of the suit.
Arrived here by mistake and what a great surprise. Great videos and advices. I am with you from now on. Any advice to shop suits and jackets in the Internet? And thanks for the great video.
Agreed with everything stated here, I'd also add stay away from shinny gold buttons - smacks of a drunk captain.
hi, i'm just about 5'-6" and regular shape. Do u think a triple breasted suit would go or the double breasted better?
You look like the guy from kingsman secret sevice
King Edward the Grape thats what I too thought
Is that the guy that got sliced in half ?
A double breast really makes you feel like a unit and as a man that stands 6 ft 4 inch , my double breasted suit makes me feel like a dressed up leprechaun

my brioni double breasted suit makes me look like ronnie coleman lol.
men are supposed to wear regular suits because of height I'm six foot 2 and 230 pounds it also makes people who are fat not look so fat

I will get my first DB soon, I will ask for 4 by 2 config
I was always worried to get one of these.
Bro, I look taller than i am, but i'm only 1,76.5 in boots, do you think that i can use a double breasted, striped blue suit?
disagree... 5’8 /5’9 aint short... short is 5’5 / 5’4. im guessing ur around there... i’m 5’8 and rock a 6 x 2 Tom Ford DB...
I’m pretty sure you’d look great on a 6-2
edward sexton is short. he wears dbs 6x2 a lot of times. looks good. short men can wear 6x2 dbs

Hey, is it your suit tailor made or from store but you tailored it, if the latter, how do you ask the tailor
Check out my guides to this very topic - www.themodestman.com/how-to-find-a-tailor/ and www.themodestman.com/clothing-alterations/
Would've liked to see the whole suit, Brock but you were probably wearing captoed oxfords which makes your feet appear larger than the natural size.
Full suit pictures in description.
Hi, what if my husband has a double breasted jacket however is 6 buttons. How short should I alter the length?
Depends entirely on his build. There's no set length for jackets. I'd take it to a tailor who works with suits.
Stay away from 6 buttons suits? where did you get your degree?
!!!
Agree. A 4x2 double breasted suit looks odd on a tall or short man
can i wear a double breasted suit to prom?
half the jacket isn't even in view for the video
Are peak lapels preferred for double breasted suits?

can anyone say how much is 5.8 to meters please?
1.7272m (172.72cm)
No. They all look like Jimmy Cagney. You need to have height!
There were no demonstrations, i couldn't even see your full jacket. Good content but poor delivery.
Pictures can be found here - www.themodestman.com/double-breasted-suits/
show the full suit no!!!!
Your lapels are too big on your jacket
Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing for a double breasted?
How tall are you?
I'm just under 5'6" and about 120 lbs.
