Magic literally finished as MVP runner-up & led Lakers to Finals in '91. He also stole the show at thr '92 All-Star game and won MVP. Magic was still Magic. He was just retired due to HIV. Of course the media is downgrading the dream team to upgrade this year's team. If the dream team and this year's team played, the dream team smashes them by 25-30 points.
Depends on what rules they went by. If they were calling travels, palming the ball, and offensive fouls like they did in the 90`s, the 1992 team would EASILY win by 50+. Please show me ANY game in the last 10 years in the NBA where players DON`t travel, palming the ball, or commit MULTILPE uncalled offensive fouls. If these 3 things were called now, the current USA team couldn`t beat a pick-up team from the YMCA.

I like how Pippen is the best player ever when they try to say that MJ had more help and that the Bulls was a super team and how he is trash when they try to diminish the Dream Team… 😂
I'm not sorry for saying this, but I hope the USA doesn't win the Gold 🥇! So much disrespect on the "Dream Team," who out scored their opponents by at least 40 points!
This year's team doesn't come close to '92. The media has to mismatch in order to make them relevant. Why didn't they compare Lebron to MJ? Because there's no comparison. MJ was playing with other stars and stated that he just 'wanted to be one of the boys'. But, when it was needed, he went ballistic (ask Kukoc). The sad thing is, you can go watch the '92 games if you didn't see them live like I did. If you do go watch them, start with the Tournament of the Americas. The US had to qualify to make the Olympics. First game, in the first 4 minutes or so, Magic makes an errant pass. MJ chases it down from the middle of the floor, jumps out of bounds with a behind the back pass to Bird who drains the shot. For me, it's not just about the skill level that the '92 team had that makes them better. They took great pride in playing for their country and winning gold. You can see the pride and the fire in how they played. BTW, MJ, Chris Mullen, and Patrick Ewing had already won gold in '84.
Lebro is and always has been absolute shit. Shoots less than 35 percent from outside of three feet. Shoots below three point average according to stats.
There are some good players this year but that 92 dream team, if you could slide kobe and wilt in there it'd basically be the possible goat list. Noticed he wanted to compare lebron to magic and not mj, couldn't imagine why.
Imagine that the only way USA basketball (and the NBA) found to get relevance in the media is to trash the past team(s), that's sad and I bet you won't find another sport where you can see that, it just shows how ESPN and so on think of today's average basketball fan. I would understand if they were comparing team USA 2024 to it's 2020 or 2016 even 2012 rosters but they had to go to what people hold to be the highest standard (just like they can't help but talk about MJ) aka 92 roster.
The difference between today's and 92 is defense. Magic Johnson said the same thing about 2008s redeem team " Take away their offense what can they do to beat the dream team".
This team isn't even close to the 1996, 2008, or even the 2012 teams. There's no way this team is even coming close to the '92 Dream Team. Magic led the Lakers to the Finals in '91, literally a summer before the '92 Olympics. LeBron had prime Anthony Davis as his teammate and made the playoffs as a 7th seed. Besides, LeBron is 39 years old. Steph is 36. Durant hasn't even played a game yet as he's rehabilitating, and Kawhi was subbed out for a role player. Most of the mainstream media covering basketball are absolutely terrible.
I don't care how messed up Bird was... He was still dominating fools late in his career. There is a huge difference in being a superior athlete versus being a superior basketball player. 1992 team will always be my favorite.
Select team with Flagg, Podz, Jaquez should not be in a 1-shot game with Team USA. '92 selects "won" with MJ out, had C-Webb, Penny, Grant Hill, Allan Houston, Mashburn, Hurley. Dream Team WAY better than '24.
The game against the college select team in 92 was rigged. Watch what coach K says about it on the dream team documentary. The next day they killed them.
Slap stick never wright Nick saying magic past his prime? Magic was in the finals the year before. Slap stick nick doesn’t have to be worried about being past his prime, he’s a “ never was” and should have his journalism license revoked!
Fuck it let this team all be the best they ever were and the dream team still wipes them by 15. The 92 dream team played some beautiful basketball together, this team I see a lot of bs 1v1 offense.
It is amazing how "experts" should not be allowed to speak publicly. The "Dream Team" was the dream team because the world got to watch Larry and Magic play together as they ended their basketball careers. Jordan was in the middle of his first threepeat and dominating the league. More importantly, this was the first time pros were playing in the Olympics!!! The 1992 included guys who would got 100% every minute. That does not describe ANYONE in the current NBA. Now, everyone is worried about protecting themselves so they can play "forever". Back in 1992, players were trying to win championships. Now, players want money.
What's very telling is: "Only a few of the dream team guys could handle the ball". That's because they played team ball and knew their roles. Every star in the NBA today is an ISO player. When they don't have the ball in their hands, they are valuable as a spot up shooter. Minus Steph Curry because he plays off the ball a lot. ISO ball is fun to watch. But it stagnates the rest of the offense. All the other players can do is get out of the way and spot up unless you play a motion offense. Outside of Golden State and Sacramento nobody plays motion offense. All of these great individuals are stronger than anyone they face in one on one situations. They are the best tough shot makers not only today, but some of them are all time greats. The whole point of basketball is that it's a team sport and the goal isn't to make the toughest shot you can, it's to move the ball around and find the easiest shot you can get. The NBA wants to have guys ISO and take tough shots all day long. It inflates stats and looks good on sportscenter. But the team that gets the easiest shots is going to win the gold. The rest of the world has some great basketball players and great teams. I think that there is a very real chance that USA doesn't bring home the gold, and it's going to be funny to watch all of this coordinated smear campaigning by the media blow up in their faces if it happens.
I mean, WHY is Cowherd bringing "Portland Scottie" into this??? In '92 EARLY Prime Pippen....and I'll say this much : Tatum might be more offensively skilled....but '92 Pippen would HOUND him ALL over the court....he'd make him NOT want the ball.....Tatum also couldn't stop Pippen from bringing the ball up and initiating the offense.
@@twiliteznTatum 7-26 shooting performance and 14 double hesi bricks, I can't believe how easy these media members sell out, they already make great money to be on tv talking about sports, they shouldn't need more to lie.

Who on 2024 gets to cover K. Malone, C. Dresser, S. Pippen, or the "forgotten one" Chris Mullins? Mullins was a 6'7 forward with superior handles and one of the league's top scorers! He averaged over 40% (top 3 in league 10+ years) 47% fg (career) and 90% or better fts for career! But the Dream Team can't shoot..."pure lies from media"!
@@LoyKnowles Exactly. Clyde The Glide was almost on Jordans level, Pippen can dunk on and defend anybody, Mullin was the best shooter and nobody is stopping The Mailman from delivering any packages when he plays pick'n'roll with Stockton. If these dudes were around today they would have the modern training, doctors etc. and would be even better. People forget the only reason today's guys are so good because they learned from all these legends. If the '92 team played today they all would shoot more 3's and have better handles. MJ in today's league would play PG make 45pts because he always has the ball and nobody is allowed to defend him Bad Boys Pistons style and his 3pt% would be way higher. Agile centers like Robinson would all be shooting 3's etc.
If I were going to make a case for ANYTHING in these Olympics it would be that the talent outside the US is much stronger, but that’s about it. The game has only increased in popularity since that first team. Go watch the DOC on the ‘92 Dream Team and they were treated like the Beatles landing at JFK.
Right now Team USA’s teenage men’s team is annihilating their competition. Some of these claims about the world catching up to us are over exaggerated.
it's funny he mentions the bench. I remember that Chuck Daly had his favored starting 5 (which always had MJ in it) as well as a revolving starting five so everyone got a chance to play. A couple of times he had MJ coming off the bench. Imagine the opposing team unleashing MJ as their 6th man.
Honestly, I don't even know if I can argue that AD is better than '92 Ewing. It's a debate, but Ewing also averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks per game. He finished top five in MVP voting and also made the All-NBA Second Team, but Second Team defense. However, his competition at center was far stiffer than AD's, especially on the defensive side. The Knicks also finished as the fourth seed with 51 wins, while my Lakers won fewer games. Ewing didn't have anyone close to as good as LeBron as a teammate, despite his flaws at 39. Just comparing impact, Ewing was a far more dominant player. AD is more skilled and versatile, but Ewing was simply the better player. Stats can be skewed due to rule differences, officiating, and style of play.
Pippen defensive is second to none. One of the greatest drivers to the basket. Great passer. He could defend 1 through 4. Ewing was awesome. I got to see him back in the 80's. Dominant!!

LeBron, KD, & Steph are literally no longer in their primes at 35, 36, & 39 years old. KD isn't even healthy enough to play yet. At least Bird played despite being limited due to his back 😅.
Magic was still really really good. He only retired because of fear of spreading HIV to other players via blood/cut/contact.

@@RichardRennes That's why I hate today's NBA. They never call travels, players are allowed to flop like crazy, the refs call all these ticky tack fouls. I think the Dream Team would dominate regardless of the rules.

Facts. Pippen was the total all around player at that time. Try his defense out if you want too.
I'm not sorry for saying this, but I hope the USA doesn't win the Gold 🥇! So much disrespect on the "Dream Team," who out scored their opponents by at least 40 points!
After Australia and SS, it is a good chance that they don't win gold. I won't be surprised.
The only one who was really out of his prime on the dream team was Larry Bird. Magic only retired from the nba because of HIV.
Embiid trying to outsmart Jokic is peak comedy
If it wasn’t for the legends the current players wouldn’t have all of these luxuries that they have now.
The Laetnner comment is bizarre considering, iirc, they had to have one college player on the team in 92.

They have to talk negative about the older players to overhype the current NBA.
I wonder what they're gonna say if they lose.
Notice that these"analysts" are Lebron simps ... they''ll do anything to elevate Lebron and diminish Jordan

People forget the only reason today's guys are so good because they learned from all these legends. If the '92 team played today they all would shoot more 3's and have better handles.
AD may be better than Ewing in 92 but not admiral. Tatum might be better than pippen but not Clyde or mj.
Dominant!!
