They do have problems but look up NBA revenue. This is a domestic problem. Internationally they are killing. This is like saying soccer or F1 is failing when you live in the US.
JJ called the players from the 60s plumbers. In the 90s they did have problems with viewership. Don’t let them completely lie to you. Especially when Jordan “retired” for a year. That was like their lowest numbers in viewership since they keep track of it until that point.

I commented this somewhere else, but I'll repeat it here. If JJ thinks the NBA is supposed to be celebrated, then maybe they should make it WORTH CELEBRATING to begin with.
Ah yes, the timeless "make it worth celebrating" argument-because clearly, a league that's produced historic moments, all-time great players, and global cultural impact isn't "worth celebrating." You act like the NBA hasn't revolutionized sports entertainment while being a multi-billion-dollar industry. If you're waiting for perfection before celebrating, you'll be waiting forever. Let me guess-you're one of those who romanticizes the "good old days" while ignoring the growth and skill in today’s game. The NBA is worth celebrating. The problem isn’t the league; it’s your inability to see it.

What Charles said is on point. You can't say these modern players are the healthiest or skilled or talented when they have all the money, all the science regimen, all the perks, and yet sit out games for the smallest things and just spend all day chucking up three's when they are actually on court.
JJ Reddick has such a high basketball IQ that he was a 6’2 shooting guard that’s wasn’t smart enough to run an offense. His IQ was so high he used to let every player drive by him with no resistance. His IQ was so high the team would have to draw plays for him to get an open shot.
Reasons NBA Failing 1. Players are entitled - Up until Kobe, Duncan actually the lebron generation seem to think it is their right to play. Money is all that matters....Lebron, Embid. Players like Westbrook and Curry still seem to realize they are here to ball. - e.g. players wanting more money to play in all star game? 2. Players disconnected with fans and city - Players should always keep in mind that they play for the fans...its entertainment. 3. No genuine rivalry - NFL and Football(Soccer) is built on intense rivals that the players themselves understand 4. No more dynamic duos - 2 stars or superstars per team 5. No loyalty to the team/city - duos or stars would stay on a team for a long time - it would be their city. deep rooted connection with fans. this makes moving to rivals unthinkable. e.g. Durant, Lerbon, Kawai, Harden, AD, Westbrook constantly moving. For a league to have 6 superstars in the prime of their careers constantly moving from franchise to franchise shows that something is wrong with the league. If a superstar or star spends 10 years in a city and is on the decline and moves to another franchise that is understood 6. Style of play - Physicality lacking....very very soft Three point shooting - - - I cannot fully blame Curry. He is a generational player. And weaponized his skill. But yes players are looking and settling for only 3s. Not even Steph does this. When I watch him play he does much more than settle for 3s. He drives, dishes dimes. So the one dimensional nature of the game is also a factor.
I think there needs to be accountability of franchises who are just consistently bad at building a contending team, which causes their star players to leave. We can't have a discussion about loyalty without mentioning that money alone isn't going to keep a player with one team for most of his career.
@@Noifsnobutsnococonuts-rj4kkit’s easier for dudes like uncut hoops to label this era the LeBron and blame him. They so anti LeBron at times that it makes it embarrassing
JJ Reddick: The only people supporting today’s game have a small following on Twitter. Also JJ: We should quit paying attention to what people say on Twitter.
NBA has the worst branding. I believe over half the league has red in their color schemes which is absurd. NHL makes it a point to not have too many teams share colors, which increases brand recognition and gives individuality
Reddick was a poor man’s Rex Chapman at best. The skill level/talent is not better by any means. The league has changed to showcase those talents of todays players, and even with that these players are still not as talented as the 80s, 90s and early 2000s
Thanks man I always had this analogy in mind like how a guy beneath Chapman skills can be so vocal 😂, I will put him at the level of a jud bucheler at best Not even talking about hornacek mark price, even Kyle Korver ( I’m sure I forgot many others ) who is a superior player doesn’t boast about how good he was
Jordan's mentality: If you are willing to give me 3 hours of your day, to watch me play basketball, I owe it to you to give it my best. Or something to that effect.
LeBron will always blame someone else. He was the face of the league. His demeanor and attitude towards mocking the regular season and the allstar game set a bad example for those who looked up to him. Add bad reffing and soft rules, and this how the NBA has collapsed.

If the NBA is better than ever then why can’t they blow out international teams like the 90’s did? If the world caught up in terms of basketball skills, then the NBA should’ve gotten better as well if it’s considered the “most skilled” era.
Because the US olympic team is no longer composed of best NBA players in the league. Plenty of NBA players go play for their home countries, so now you can't have a US team that has Jokic and Giannis on it, for example. NBA is still the best basketball league on the planet, its just gone global with players.
@@123anonthrowif jokic & giannis were around in the 90s, they would have played for their home countries. The entire dream team was born in the United States. The only one to my knowledge that has ever flip flopped is embiid. For obvious reasons because he needs it for a HoF induction.
@IVANOOZE69 oh yeah I agree with ya. The point I was making is that the best players come from all over the world but they all still play in the NBA. I was just disagreeing with OP that the NBA is falling behind other leagues.
Jj Redick is easily the perfect coach for Lebron. Had a podcast where he only talks positively about players, and he has a fanbase that think he's a genius. And then also spent time on ESPN trashing the previous generations while at the same time defending every single thing modern players do. He literally defended Ja Morant flashing his gun on IG. Jj literally has everything Lebron could want in a coach. Their "mind the game" podcast was just a job interview that they posted online to get extra money.
wym he would of achieved way more in the 80s, being one of the best 3 point shooters which was rare back then and his all around game wasnt bad. Would of racked up a bunch of all stars and all nba appearances.

And even if they are allowed, the defense won't let him. Players today seem superhuman only because the offense are heavily favored by the rules.
@@beastyearold The most skilled player is worthless if he doesn't care. Poor coaching can ruin athleticism. It doesn't matter how high you can jump if you're in street clothes 30 games a season due to load management.
The only people I hear or see defending this era of the NBA are the Klutch Sports "we done with the 90's" propagandists who spent years denigrating older generations of the league. This quality of basketball is a joke. The Olympics were the last time we saw REAL basketball.
Up until 2016-17 I’d have so many conversations about the nba, MJ Lebron goat debate, and things like that with friends all the time. Since then it’s really dipped off and post 2020 haven’t really heard a word about it. I’ll turn it on every once in a while and it’s mind blowing how much worse it’s gotten
The closer the shot attempt is to the basket, the more exciting the moment becomes. It's that simple. Contested Dunks > contested layups > contested post scoring > contested mid-ranged shots > contested 3 pt shots. A large part of most modern games are spent watching teams miss the majority of their threes.
An easy solution is to only let the SG shoot 3’s OR limit every player to a limited amount of threes they can take because it’s ridiculous how many are taken. Also they need to bring back hand checking and remove the 3 in the key.
It's the 3 points, it's the lack of defence, its load management, its soft players, and something that I don't see enough people talking about, the amount of ads that the NBA has is ridiculous. A 48-minute game needs like 3 hours to finish. The product itself sucks and is just a glorified commercial to sell other products.
Charles forgot to mention Load Management, Fake Fouls, Traveling, Carrying, "Triple" Dribble, etc. But improved 3-point shooting. Take it or leave it. Fans are waking up and leaving it. When teams play total basketball then when your shooting is not working you can do something else i..e. play defense, pass, etc. But if the game is all about shooting 3s and your shooting drops from 40% to say 20% then there is nothing else you can do except keep launching and missing 4 out of 5! That is what we are seeing. There are not too many Curry's in the NBA. He should keep launching but rest need to curb their enthusiasm. Excellent teams! US team is not much better than the rest of the world now. They have gone down and others have come up a little.
Just because people are cutting the cable, the solution is to have NBA games accessible on all the streaming services, non-exclusive agreements, or at least pick a major one like Hulu. ESPN having its own separate stuff from larger Disney ecosystem is stupid. The NBA was never more popular than when there were 3 games on universally accessible NBC on Sunday (Free), TNT (with the basic cable package) for playoffs and during the week and your local affiliate for the local team's games (Free)
Said perfectly, I always hate how nobody mentions how hard it is to actually watch a game you want to watch at home without paying an arm and a leg . Sucks but I’d rather just save $ && watch the highlights the next day on yt
Michael Jordan called it years ago when they asked him about the players of today. Jordan said "The kids today they’re being given things that they haven’t earned, and I don’t want to seem like an old school traditional bitter type of guy, you ask me, and I tell you, I think the game is being cheated because of the success that’s being given prior to them earning it, simple as that." This affects work ethic and it has ruined the game.
How is JJ gonna point the finger at not celebrating the game, when he was the one trashing legends and the players of the past and demeaning them. He’s being a hypocrite.
The league used to curtail situations where a move is receiving heavy preference. Having to stand behind the FT line at all times during the stop attempt because big men would exploit jumping forward. Hand checking that prevented forward momentum of the offense. Crowding the paint. Landing space for jump shots. Adam Silver has done nothing to disincentivize the 3-pt shot, which is now heavily favored by most players today.
They’re saying the product sucks because the product sucks! When a team can win a game by 40 points one night then lose by 40 the next, the product does indeed suck. It’s all about which team is shooting the 3 better. I think they should bump it down to 2.5 points.
The issue in itself is when teams continue to chuck threes on a bad shooting night. These so called raw talented and skilled players can't seem to slow the game down in a half court set when transition threes aren't an option or when threes aren't dropping. It's really sad, and doesn't feel like I'm watching the best basketball players.
Load management, primmadonna, entitled players. Lack of defense, constant 3 point shots, very little passing, carries, no hand checking etc. the list is much longer than just 3 point shots
The biggest thing for me is it's not about the teams at all anymore. Everything caters to the players. Teams have no big rivalries, and I find it very rare to see a true NBA fan loyal to a team over a player. When I think of every other major sport like Football, Baseball, Soccer, and even Hockey, people are passionate about the actual team and the players come second and have pride PLAYING for that team. The NBA is a player's league, and the players have more say than the actual GM's and coaches. Therein lies the big problem.
No one has a killer instinct. Lebron was caught in multiple games this year laughing on the bench with his team down 20. Get upset that your old ass is getting whooped and you’re on a mediocre team that won’t win you a chip! Have some pride!
Unfortunately, it's gonna get even WORSE now that ESPN is getting more involved with the NBA! They won't stop until pro basketball is completely destroyed!
What drives me crazy is when a team is up by three points at the end of a game and they have one of the last positions and instead of taking an easy two-Point shot to make it a two possession game, they would take a three-pointer, miss it and then the other team comes back and FINALLY hits a 3 and ties the game
I remember a video clip from about 1986. Bill Walton was having his comeback with the Celtics, and during a game he appealed to referee Jess Kersey for a foul call. Kersey said, "Shut up and play basketball, ya big baby!" Even the refs were better back in the day.
I think what people fail to realize it’s the same thing in the NFL. Is that players want to play physical it’s the rules that aren’t allowing them to do so. So it’s either get penalties and be a detriment to your team. Or play and get your best.
My dad has watched basically at least 1 game a day each day that had games on for the last 20+, almost 30 years. This is the first year where he actually just doesn’t want to watch the games, there’s no player/team that he enjoys watching.
Exactly. Think about it in your own game- say you're playing one-on-one against a tough opponent. In the early stages of the game, you might be driving to the basket a lot, but as you get tired you start settling for threes/longer shots.
What’s happening today is what happened 25 years ago. The NBA does this ever so often with a fly too close to the sun with a specific play style. Back then the games are too physical and you would look at the halftime, and it would be something crazy like 44 to 49 now these guys are too heavily invested in shooting threes, because it truly makes sense too. The biggest problem I think the NBA has, is the fact that they got rid of midrange scoring. On top of that it’s the referees, as well as lack of defense. Those moving screens don’t help either.
JJ Redick doesn't know basketball talent... These kids have potential but they are not skilled at playing winning basketball. They can't play with their backs to the basket. They can't come off screens and shoot. It's pickup basketball at its highest level. No plays. No systems. They can't play competitive defense because of the rules. So you get a bunch of dudes taking summer league 30 footers. No more players with their own styles and signature moves. These guys all play the same. That's not talent. 6 ft players guarding 6'9 basketball players and the 6'9 guy is never told to put that lil sucker on the block and let's get this easy 2 points or maybe and 1.... The Big guy goes and stands beyond the 3. Porzingis should average 40 in today's game of his ass would just go down on the block. That would open up the other players for 3s... not just running the pick and roll only to draw and dish out to the 3 point line....
There's a big difference from talent and skill and basketball IQ. He's right. The game is more skilled and talented than the NBA 18 years ago. The basketball IQ isn't there.
Honestly their is no competitiveness in the nba. Nobody wants to go out and dominate other players to prove they are better. Ever since kobe retired nobody hasn't really taken the nba seriously.
@beastyearold curry yes but hes getting old, giannis and joker are the only players maybe but what about the rest of the league no to mention theirs no actual defense.

You rather have Mr. Sensitive as your Commissioner? Shaq was like the first “crybaby” superstar. Shaq was basically Embiid except he played a lot more. Jordan was an awful owner why tf would you want as a commissioner? I don’t like Silver but none of the guys you named would be ok commissioners.
@@GOODMuzikBoi true Shaq sensitive and MJ not so good owner but same time they both play basketball, no push over, they at least make sure the players don't screwed the audience
I'll preface this by saying I have been watching basketball since the early 80s so I have old school bias. Here are the main issues with today's game: 1. Palming/traveling/carry/"gather step" etc. With the defense handcuffed as it is, it's impossible to stay in front of anyone that doesn't have to worry about dribbling the ball. It's also annoying to hear how great someone's "handles" are when they are carrying the ball on every dribble. 2. The barrage of 3s. Analytics is ruing the game. It almost ruined baseball (shift, having one pitcher throw to one hitter, not having a stater go past 3 at bats (typically the 5th inning), HRs more than base hits etc.) 3. Absolute lack of defense. This is two-part. One, I don't think players care about defense like they used to. Additionally, they need to bring back hand-checking. I know Riley Knicks and Heat were some of the most physical teams along with the 80s Pistons. Not one of my friends cared that games were 79-65. We enjoyed the physicality to the game. It wasn't soft. the NBA needs defense again. 4. The refs. They are so inconsistent. They also need to not worry about fouling out stars and just call fouls. Call travels. Call it all. 5. TIME OUTS. Way too many. The game takes forever to play out in the final 5 minutes. The game loses flow, and viewers get frustrated.
That’s not even close to true, do you know who Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul Jabar are? what type of men they were? You don’t even know what the word woke means, only what it’s been commandeered to mean. For you it’s just a one size fits all phrase for anyone who does or says anything you don’t agree with.
When you have players sitting out when perfectly healthy, players not playing back to backs, players not taking things seriously or truly loving the game of basketball then why should I as a fan of basketball even watch the NBA when a bunch of the players don’t even care
First off i have an extreme dislike of Reddick and of course Le Bum..the thing rhat grinds my gears is these a- hole players. I thought the 2000's were rough in terms of players being unlikeable..smh..these clowns they have today make the others look like saints. That's why the league is in decline no one likes these dudes. There isn't anymore to root for. Pkus everything else. The most entitled and least worthy players ever....
These are all valid problems but the real problem is I don’t want to pay for a subscription to watch basketball. I’m never going to pay for a subscription to watch live sports. It was always on basic cable for free. I watched Michael Jordan without a subscription. Shaq and Kobe. So why would I be paying now? Price of living is already high enough I can’t afford an NBA tax.
The league isn’t more talented. They are in worse shape, they have less high end skill, less diversity of skills, less variation in scheme, less physical power, less competitiveness, less everything. The game is almost as unwatchable as women’s sports.
Did you guys ever see those videos where an amateur plays an NBA player 1 v 1? The NBA player usually half plays defense, and lets the amateur launch 3's. That's now what modern NBA games look like. Something needs to change, man. Uncut Hoops and the rest of us have been talking about the poor quality of this league for a while now, and it seems like the league is FINALLY starting to acknowledge that there is problem...
Anyone else ever realize that we can easily identify and list the 10 best scorers in the league, but have a hard time naming just FIVE of the best defenders in the league??? There’s the NBA’s problem right there. They incentivize high scoring and penalize players that try to play defense with stuff such as ticky-tack foul calls and EVERYTHING apparentely being a “flagrant foul”
every player is a SG these days. Back then players played their position and teams played to their strengths, now every team is the GSW so it's the same game no matter who u watch......it gets old
These players only care about money and cheap rings. Pay the players on an incentive based contracts, you get higher salary for winning more games, you can only get a super max if you won a ring last 5 years etc

JJ Reddick has such a high basketball IQ that he was a 6’2 shooting guard that’s wasn’t smart enough to run an offense. His IQ was so high he used to let every player drive by him with no resistance. His IQ was so high the team would have to draw plays for him to get an open shot.

Reasons NBA Failing
3. No genuine rivalry - NFL and Football(Soccer) is built on intense rivals that the players themselves understand
4. No more dynamic duos - 2 stars or superstars per team
5. If a superstar or star spends 10 years in a city and is on the decline and moves to another franchise that is understood
6. Style of play -
Physicality lacking....very very soft
Three point shooting - - - I cannot fully blame Curry.
Why should a (super)star player wait till they decline to be in the best position to win just fulfill an unofficial tradition? How is that fair?
NBA players aren't relatable anymore. Too rich and spoiled, most of them have no real life experience or tribulations.

I feel like the refs need to get punished for making bad calls. They should get graded on their calls and have stats too.
You shouldn't lump in Kenny with Shaq and Chuck, Kenny almost never says anything controversial about the current game and shills for them instead
BEEN SAYING...JJ is Smug, Arrogant, thinks he's always the Smartest Guy in the room. STRAIGHT DOOCHE VIBES Regularly.
Agreed. Just turn the tv on & have the option to watch multiple different games
Michael Jordan called it years ago when they asked him about the players of today. Jordan said "The kids today they’re being given things that they haven’t earned, and I don’t want to seem like an old school traditional bitter type of guy, you ask me, and I tell you, I think the game is being cheated because of the success that’s being given prior to them earning it, simple as that."
This affects work ethic and it has ruined the game.
Me watching those game highlights shouting 'Attack' as they lob up another 3.
0:35 Charles Barkley is a Dragonball Z Fan LOL
*Grabs you by the ear.* chill youngin. You mocking a legend.
They’re saying the product sucks because the product sucks! When a team can win a game by 40 points one night then lose by 40 the next, the product does indeed suck. It’s all about which team is shooting the 3 better. I think they should bump it down to 2.5 points.
Asking a modern NBA player why the league is failing is like asking your eight year old why he’s failing in school, it’s not my fault!
The players care more about their pregame outfit than the game itself.
Bro why does JJ talk as a coach like he’s still sipping wine on his little podcast. It’s so cringe😭
They're a bunch of narcissists these players. More interested in X than their team
I mean it’s almost necessary to be a narcissist to be a professional athlete
Unfortunately, it's gonna get even WORSE now that ESPN is getting more involved with the NBA!
They won't stop until pro basketball is completely destroyed!
What drives me crazy is when a team is up by three points at the end of a game and they have one of the last positions and instead of taking an easy two-Point shot to make it a two possession game, they would take a three-pointer, miss it and then the other team comes back and FINALLY hits a 3 and ties the game
Or they need 2 for a tie and then they Go for a difficult 3 early in clock or run down the clock instead of EZ or fast 2
I remember a video clip from about 1986. Bill Walton was having his comeback with the Celtics, and during a game he appealed to referee Jess Kersey for a foul call.
Kersey said, "Shut up and play basketball, ya big baby!"
Even the refs were better back in the day.
Customer is always right in matters if taste is the full quote.
I think what people fail to realize it’s the same thing in the NFL. Is that players want to play physical it’s the rules that aren’t allowing them to do so. So it’s either get penalties and be a detriment to your team. Or play and get your best.
NBA is totally unwatchable to casual fans!!! Doubt I'll ever be interested ever again.
My dad has watched basically at least 1 game a day each day that had games on for the last 20+, almost 30 years. This is the first year where he actually just doesn’t want to watch the games, there’s no player/team that he enjoys watching.
Also it needs to be said that 3-shooting is lazy basketball, and these are a lot of lazy players. Not a coincidence
RIP Norm.
I love my Cavs, but there’s times that I’m screaming at my tv to stop just jacking up 3 pointers.
Honestly their is no competitiveness in the nba. Nobody wants to go out and dominate other players to prove they are better. Ever since kobe retired nobody hasn't really taken the nba seriously.
U clearly dont watch the nba, are u forgeting about curry, bron, kd, giannis, jokic and plenty more
@beastyearold curry yes but hes getting old, giannis and joker are the only players maybe but what about the rest of the league no to mention theirs no actual defense.
@@anthonystevenson830 There is defense, offense has just gotten to good to the point it makes the defense look bad, theres also to many rules that favour offense over defense
@@beastyearold you just proved my point by saying their are rules that favor offense. What about the rules that favor defense? What about the all-star game where the best players compete when they don't? Or load management where players don't even care about the fans and actually play.
First time i started hearing “todays players are more skilled” I thought “really?” Then i paid extra attention to the game….for sure players are overall in better shape, they have better shoes and better diets etc. maybe more athletic overall but skilled? GTFOH! Every body plays the same, dribbles the same, shoots the same while playing under rules made for children. JJ is delusional.
Shout out for the Naked Gun clip! RIP Leslie Neilson!
Shirley you can’t be serious? I am. And don’t call me Shirley
Next clip from that movie should be from one of the scenes with O.J. in them.
@@uncuthoops If I couldn't be an actor, I would only consider being an astronaut, a sea otter, or a gynecologist.
Leslie Nielsen
Players today might be more talented and skilled than ever before but what’s the point if they’re all just doing the same thing? That’s a lot of skill and talent being put to waste.
I rather have Commissioner of Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'neal, Larry Bird, Michael Jorden, or hell even Antonio "Tony" Montana aka Scarface over Adam Silver
Here are the main issues with today's game:
It almost ruined baseball (shift, having one pitcher throw to one hitter, not having a stater go past 3 at bats (typically the 5th inning), HRs more than base hits etc.)
It started when the NBA went woke.
❄️
Go WOKE = GO BROKE ✅
The league isn’t more talented. They are in worse shape, they have less high end skill, less diversity of skills, less variation in scheme, less physical power, less competitiveness, less everything. The game is almost as unwatchable as women’s sports.
It’s really simple. Modern players have more skill and athleticism. Old school players had more heart and competitiveness.
Dyson Daniels, OG Anunoby, Anthony Davis, Wemby, PJ Washington.
every player is a SG these days.
“We don’t have anybody willing to step up to the fact that this is an awesome game”😂😂 😂
I giggled at channel name Uncut Hoops when there's a random movie clip inserted every 40 seconds.
Implement a 5 second violation instead of 3 seconds and a 3 second offensive violation outside the 3 point line
