Dunno for this century but in the ancient times, it was all boys and and less yey for girls. Women are treated to be lower than men. The ladies are expected to bear sons since they would carry the family's name and future generation. OR something like that.

What makes this already “worst” breakup much much worse is the fact that Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon used to be relationship goals for more than 20 years. Their love and devotion for each other were so intense, that is, until Catherine could no longer provide Henry a child, more importantly, an heir.
That's one of the saddest ending of a marriage that lasted so many years and even in the end. She waited for him to come back to her. To die with a broken heart. It is the worst way to go. The soul could never rest in peace. My heart goes to the Queen.

Quick story, where I live, there was a story all over the news about 5 years ago. It was about a breakup. Apparently, this girls bf had texted her, asking for one last hug after their breakup. Well, she got there, and she went to give her “bf” a hug. Instead, she got stabbed 19 times on different parts of the body. Her ex(we’re just going to call him that from now on), said he did that so no one could have her. Anyways, she went to the hospital, where a doctor saved her life. They fell in love, and maybe like a year ago they got married. Now that is a really bad breakup right there.

there is *No Way* that Henry was allowed to do that! I mean, he must agree that *in all the time she'd been by his side, she'd never lost control no matter how many times he'd lied*. not to mention that catherine had her *golden rule, had to keep her cool yeah*. now even though *he'd had his fun, running around with a pretty young thing* named bessie and he'd also (the audacity) *had a son with someone who didn't own a wedding ring* which was very uncalled for! *no matter what she heard, she never said a word, no!* now, i believe this is why catherine is best queen except for the whole believing she was queen for the rest of her life bit, but to be fair *she had to put up with his sh* like every single day* but i think it's time for *him to SH and listen when she says*. back to what i said about her believing she was queen: *you must think she was crazy, but he wanted to replace her, and there's no way!* now, *if you think for a moment, she'd grant him annulment just hold up, there'd be no way!* however, king henry made trhe CoE and catherine had too do what he wanted. so as a religious couple, *henry read a bible verse she was cursed because she was his brothers wife! he said it was a pity because quoting leviticus she'd end up kidiless all her life!* but, if you think about it, *wasn't henry there when she gave birth to mary?* now, her baby! henry was just *so full of sh*! must have thought she was naive! but no!* now, by this point henry *had her down on her knees, so tell me what you think she'd done wrong! been humble, been loyal, been kind, she'd obviously tried to swallow her pride all along!* if anyone *can just explain a single thing catherine had done to cause him pain, she'd go!* but no, he had no true facts to say, so she didnt go away! the reason why she believed it was because: *he made her his wife, so she must be queen till the end of her life! so there's no way!*

Sadly, Catherine couldn't just refuse to marry. She wasn't alone. Most princesses were pressured or forced into marrying princes or kings they've never met in order to make alliances, pretty much any lady with a royal or noble title must marry and produce as many children as possible, especially sons. Even if the husband was neglectful, unfaithful or even abusive, the poor lady had no choice but to marry. But you are right. Queen Catherine deserved better! Thank goodness marrying for love is possible now! ❤

A lot of people didn't die in their 40s. This misconception makes me angry. A high infant mortality rate brought the average age down significantly.
Oh, but they did, if you take a look at the royal family tree and how long people lived, you will see that no one really got older than 60 and a ton actually died in their 40s. Some even in their 20s, especially women who died in childbirth.
There are some exceptions of people making it to 70 or even 80, but they are exceptions, not the rule.

I do, that misconception irks me. While it was pretty common to die by 40, it was slightly more common to live beyond, usually to the 50s or 60s. Infant/child mortality is what drags the average down so much. People back then didn't go around expecting to die by 40.

There is sooooooo much more that happened before Catherine of Aragon died; all of the tragedy surrounding the separation of the Catholics and Protestants; Henry VIII demanding a divorce so he could marry Anne Boleyn; all of the corruption within the catholic church. It is truly fascinating, especially when you find out it *may* have been Henry's fault that not many of his children survived...

People didn’t usually die around the age of 40. The statistics are skewed because say you have 4 kids: one dies at childbirth, one dies at 2, one dies at 70 and the fourth dies at 68. On average those children lived to the age of 35. A situation like that was very common with most children dying before the age of 4 but if you survived that you’d likely live to your 60s or 70s.
