Man, I wish I saw this video before I bought my brand new Rheem unit. Guess what, straight out of the box brand new and it doesn't work. Same design as yours. I guess it also works getting used to no hot water and cold showers. Who needs a water heater. Honeywell is certainly promoting saving the planet against warming.
I am not a plumber but I had the same problem. If the light flashes 4 times, the water is telling you that something is wrong. It is working exactly as designed to keep you safe! Usually the inside of the water heater is full of silt or calcium buildup that causes it to over heat. 1st, drain and flush your entire water heater. You can attach a garden hose and run the water outside. Then there is a simple process something like turning the control knob full on for 10 seconds, then to hit for 10 seconds, then to pilot for 10 seconds. The control will reset itself with no need to replace any parts.
@@TheRandomHandyman but if there was buildup of sediment or calcium on the bottom of the water heater from years of use, then it will overheat until you flush it out. If you fix that problem, you can reset the controller and it might last longer.
@@johnharris5508 I follow what your saying, but I reached out to Honeywell on multiple occasion and said hey look this thing is flashing 4 times, the response when it was under warranty was that they were sending me out a new control module because once it showed 4 code it had overheated and would not work again. I had previously attempted to flush tank when it went out the first 2 times and re filled tank and attempted to get it going again and it lead to no success as referred to in this video they have videos of other people saying you can use a 9v battery and 2 jumper wires and “reset” the module and make it think it’s all good again and it will then work , I also attempted that on the 3rd one that had gone bad. As even though the boards were free when under warranty I had to wait for them to ship from across the United States so I did everything I could in attempt to take a hot shower. But according to Honeywell on the phone the model in this video once it overheats it opens op and breaks contact inside and does not close back rendering it useless and having to be replaced. Best advice for these overpriced under performing, completely ridiculous gas controllers. My water heater runs only on low, or perhaps it’s pilot only, Controller indicates (5) flashes indicating “Faulty Temperature Sensor”. Of course there is no way to replace just the sensor and replacing the burner assembly with a part that is no longer available is the current status. Testing the temperature sensor shows “closed” circuit so the sensor is tested good. Still this HoneyNotSoWell keeps indicating a bad sensor forcing me to unplug the temp sensor plug from the controller, reset everything, relight pilot, and start the heater. Then wait for 6-8 min for it to register a nonexistent fault, rinse, lather, repeat. What I would give for an old school water heater WITHOUT one of these idiotic controllers. They always worked.
The one I replaced this one with worked fine and never had any issues so maybe the addressed the issue ended up moving recently though hope it holds up for the new people haha . But yea the old school has valves where tanks changed my grandpas water heater the other day it was 22 years old never had any issues . The threads on the inlet on top started to leak at the body of the tank that valve though was perfect wonder why they try to fix things when they aren’t broken .
Lmao. That’s one way .. but fact is they changed them for safety cause to many people were blowing up their houses and selves then sewing them they were highly unsafe for those who should not work with Gas. But the main reason your control malfunctioned is cause of all the grit that builds up at the bottom off sets the temp and reads that it’s hot cause it trapped water. Really you only needed to flush your water heater out and do it yearly to flush out hard water deposite..or get the hammer lol
Thanks for the info, I can most definitely agree with this because the water is this town is terrible, they have had parts continuously go out on chill water system at a local grocery store and they sent off water sample to see if it had something to do with it and the testing facility called and asked if they sent tap water or sewage water , that kinda concerns me lol. And I had flushed that water heater in this video every 6 months and when I would flush it a gel like substance would come out when it would be close to empty it was like a clear-ish/ white-ish gel/clumps looked like little jelly fish. Not sure what exactly causes that but when I would change control valve tip would be kinda cloudy looking. Now I changed one for a family member 30 minutes away in another water district and there control valve had gone bad as well but the probe tip was crusty and rusty and the bottom of the tank was full of rust and sediment witch I assume has something to do with the old galvanized pipe in there house. The new water Hester I have installed with the new control valve witch is made by Honeywell as well but is a slightly different model has given me no trouble though as I changed out the one in this video 4 times I think so maybe it is slightly different.
So I’m in the middle of troubleshooting my water heater now. I’ve determined that my gas valve is bad. All I have in the shed is a small 4# sledge, will that work the same as your duck hammer?
Y yo como pendejo esperando como lo arregla, porque lo enciendo y después de calentar se apaga y no enciende automáticamente y tengo que encenderlo yo mismo otra ves y otra ves…… pero muy bueno el video 😂😂
Idk, my hot water is working fine. Had I tried to fix it or change that control valve the water valve would have broken for sure, and the control valve would have craped out at least 2 more times by now so the new water heater has saved me great amounts of time.
Eva Webb I mean I’ve tried the way they say it can be fixed so I’ve waisted my time doing something that won’t work. So I kinda saved ya the time of trying all night to get it to work when it is broke broke they make them this way to make sure they continue to make money. So if it is under warranty you can call and get a new one in a day or 2 and change it then I can explain in detail how to change it. If it is not in warranty it will cost $200 from them or $100 on Amazon .
ajjd100494 unfortunately the warranty is non-transferable and I bought the house from the person who had this installed. It actually would be under warranty if I was the original owner. I just replaced the pilot assembly and the damn thing still won’t light.
Eva Webb well that’s some crap cause I bought my house with that water heater in it and they sent me 3 over the past few years and had no issue I’d call back and just say u are the one that bought it if that makes them happy
Eva Webb the new gas control valve is around $100 if you want to order on amazon you just take everything on bottom of it off, turn gas off and unscrew valve from water heater. After draining water out first by turning water off at top and draining out of bottom with hose . I had simply changed it to many times and all the parts were getting worn from being removed and put back together and the drain was starting to crack so before spending money on something that would continue to have issues it made sense to buy a new one with a new warranty and when I drained it to put new tank the drain ended up cracking as I thought it would so I would have been screwed if I had not got the new tank. So if you think your tank is in decent shape I would go ahead and order part for $100. But like I said if it’s under warranty still that’s crap they should send you the part for free
ajjd100494 well they already have me on file and know I’m not the original owner so I’m stuck paying for the parts. The pilot assembly cost me $140 and I spent $20 on the new gasket a couple days before when I tried cleaning the line first. I’m not even Sure I needed a new pilot assembly now. I’m gonna get the gas control valve and see if that works and if it doesn’t I’ll just return everything and call a professional. The tank is in good shape, so I don’t think replacing it is the most cost effective move at this point.
Guess who got two thumbs and hot water??? Me haha if you smashed yours and went buy a new one perhaps you would not be looking for a video on how to fix it 🤷🏻♂️
Water heater I was working on had a tear in the burner screen, not uncommon and a total fire hazard. This was causing gas valve to shut off (doing one of it's jobs)! You said you replaced 4-5 gas valves,, yet could be other issues causing Gas Valve failure (thermopile/thermocouple, drafting issues, or in my case a burner assembly under recall). Smashing it is the worst advice one could offer. I got it all replaced for free after some reading.

😂😆😆😂😂
Check my washing machine repair video lmao
Waste of time. Thanks.
Idk, my hot water is working fine. Had I tried to fix it or change that control valve the water valve would have broken for sure, and the control valve would have craped out at least 2 more times by now so the new water heater has saved me great amounts of time.
Lmao
Hope you enjoyed
You need to get to the point
Lol I did
😂😂😂👌🏼
And I’d hit it again haha
Thanks for wasting my time
Eva Webb I mean I’ve tried the way they say it can be fixed so I’ve waisted my time doing something that won’t work.
Bahaha !!!!
🤣🤣🤣🔨
Make sure ya sub so you can see me smash some other shiiii*t lol
don’t quit your job. waste of time
Guess who got two thumbs and hot water???
@@mattodrums snashing it wasn’t the advice the advice was to buy a new water heater in doing so it worked great after.
😂😂😂
I have a how to fix your washing machine video as well lmao
