  • I've own this drumset for 3 years. How durable is it? does the sound still hold up? Is it still worth buying? I answer all that in this video.

    Thanks for all the information that you post. I had just recently started to consider getting some electric drums since I am on 3rd shift. After watching some of your videos as well as other demo videos, I have been getting really excited! I really want to get a set that will keep my attention and build my creativity. The Alesis pro that was just released captured my attention, however I think you have sold me on the TD-30 module. The main thing is thank you. Your videos are helpful to the uneducated in electric drums.

      65 Drums thanks for your videos, I bought and returned a TD 25 kit because I'm very picky about the snare samples and couldn't believe how crappy they were on the td25, so I'll be buying a td30 kv and expand it. Keep up the insight and thanks again. Oops I meant td30 k

    By the way, with mesh heads, you do have to replace them every once in a while. In my case, I need to get a new snare head and kick drum head.

      I find that you need to replace the CONE rather than the mesh head. If you've kept the mesh head clean then you can use it for 15 years without much issue. the foam Cone however, you must replace them every few years - They make 10x more difference than the mesh heads when replaced.

    I was blessed to pick up a used 30K for $2400. After the honeymoon phase I am still extremely impressed by the sounds, durability, upgrade potential and construction. The bell on the ride is giving me some problems (I saw a video on how to fix that). Other then that, the rig is solid, can't stop playing it. I have a range of motion problem (due to ankle/foot injury). I moved to the more sensitive FD9 for the HH (using 1 spring and adjusted the pedal angle). I think electronic drums are great for quiet practice and for folks with disabilities, as you can improvise the triggers. Been using my guitar pedals with it too. Thanks for the advise!

    Great review. I have a td11k and probably will never go back to acoustic. I love my kit. I will say, I'm really excited to hear Alesis Strike kit. For the money, you get alot more if their sounds are up to par with Roland. That's the big question.

      @65Drums  8 лет назад +1

      I really appreciate that man! I might change it back one day. But for me at least, the point of this channel is to talk about edrums. If I create another channel to do experimental drum stuff, solos and the like, I'll most definitely use my name on that one. I keep pushing myself to get better, I'm not really trying to become Neil Peart or Jojo Mayer.
      I don't know what will become of all this yet. I'm kinda making this up as I go along. We'll see what happens. Thanks for letting me know what you thing man :)

    I played a 10 for years. Loved it. I just got a 30 and I'm SOOO disappointed. First of all, why can't it send efx to the click? I loved sending delay efx to the click on the 10.. I expected the 30 to do EVERYTHING the 10 did and more...not more and less. And, why does the rim sound follow the head sound when scrolling thru sounds? So far, it looks like I can't assign any sound I want to a rim trigger..it has to be related to the sound assigned to the head trigger. I've only had it a few days, but I know the 10 so well, so that knowledge should translate to the 30. I was really excited about 6 backing tracks instead of 4..and 264 backing(seq/pattern) sounds instead of 54..and, usb out & flashdrive instead of those obsolete memory cards...that stuffs great but not to lose some of the 10s simple yet awesome functions.
    I like v's for the efx, sequencer, digital sounds etc... NOT how well they emulate acoustic drums..I HAVE acoustic drums for that. Anyway.. maybe I'm wrong about the rim/head thing.. but I don't think I am. looks like I'll be selling the 30 and getting another 10 (mines got issues) and a sampler/sequencer/dws.
    I was so excited .. 😑

    Hi Justin, really enjoying your videos and your work! At the moment I'm toying between a second hand TD30kse I've found, or a TD27KV brand new from my local store. Both are at roughly same price. I'm comparing both kits and they have so many similarities (the toms and cymbs are the same), but with better things on the TD27 than the TD30kse (the snare and Hihat is better on the kse in particular) but the TD30 has a better (if more complex, with too many features?) module. Both modules look like it has roughly the same content and usability, but the 27 was made for simplicity, and doesn't have all the unnecessary features. The 27 has td50 technology, whereas the td30 was their flagship. If you were in my position, which kit would you choose? Any advice much appreciated!

      @mauriciocortezbowles6446 4 года назад

      nepentheworld If you’re still thinking bout it, go with a used TD-30. The TD-25 is just not worth it. (Not worth to spend the money on a new one) Roland has 4 modules that are worth buying imo. From low to high end, TD-7, TD-9, TD-15 and TD-30. For all price points, any other kit (like the td 25) is just way too limited and triggering isn’t the best to say the least. I know that the td25 might sound a bit better on videos, (in comparison to the td7, 9 or 15) but it is not worth the money. Those are the 4 I would personally consider. Greetings

  • @tkelly830
    @tkelly830 7 лет назад

    Justin, you mentioned that this module doesn't really cater to the rock/metal sounding kits out of the box which is what I primarily play. Would you say that the TD25 does cater more to the rock/metal sound? The 25/30 are the 2 kits I am looking at for my next kit.

    • @KillerDrummer88
      @KillerDrummer88 8 лет назад

      +Justin Greenawalt thanks for the very quick answer. I'm surprised to hear that you don't find it a problem. In my 12 years experience with a TD-3 module with mesh snare (and trying the other models at some shops), I clearly notice that the piezo area returns a strong velocity peak and it is good to stay out of it, actually. The area is less than 1 cm in diameter, and it happens to hit it every now and then. I heard that people try to mitigate it by applying logarithmic sensitivity curves, and tightening the skin (which I don't like to do). Do you think this issue will be solved with the next releases of software on TD-30, or perhaps on TD-40? It's a big minus, considering the drum set quality and cost.
      I hope my English is clear enough 😊

  • @Grit489

    Don't anyone buy the td25 it's a shit module with horrible snare and kick sounds along with marginally decent Tom sounds, I know because I had one for about a week and be promptly returned it to guitar center. Justin is correct saying that the TD 30 is the best module for the money !!!

    Hey Justin! I'm thinking about transitioning into an edrum kit that is good for more than just practice. I want it to have good playability, great sounds from the Module, and that I wouldn't feel ashamed of when using it in a live gig scenario. I'm stuck in between the Roland TD-30k, the Yamaha DTX760K, the Alexis Strike, or perhaps even getting a Roland td-25kv and hooking it up to the Pearl Mimic (if it ever is released).
    I like Roland because they have a great reputation. I like Yamaha because they make acoustic drums so they should have some awesome samples. And I like the Alesis Strike for its stage presence but I fear reliability of the pads and hi-hat. I like the Mimic because it has a VST.
    What do you recommend I get that can meet this criteria? I'm confused!!!

      I discovered a little trick to stabilize the KD-120 out of necessity due to the fact that the shipping company mis-treated the box and lost one of the stabilizing legs..........12" cymbal arm mount! I had a cheap Alesis cymbal arm mount sitting around and really wanted to play my new *used KD-120 so I used it as a stabilizing leg until the replacement showed up from Roland. Was able to use it for the 2 weeks it took to receive the replacement leg. To my surprise, I discovered that when I used the regular leg the unit was noticeably less stable. Ended up replacing both stabilizing legs with these (black) cymbal mount arms and not only is it rock solid.......I think it actually looks better.

    Yo Justin, if I were ur neighbor would I be pissed it u for noise or is it silent enough to be bearable (for my "very supportive" neighbors)

      Your neighbors should be fine with an electonic drumset. Unless your walls are made of paper and they sleep right next to your house

      @65Drums  8 лет назад

      +Matthew Moreno If I want it to sound better, I can just use EZdrummer2 on my laptop. I don't feel the need to pay for V expressions

    The biggest draw back on this module, is the limited velocity layers on instrument to about 4, lower with cymbal, and not ability to imports your own sound..Make acoustic sound drum less realistic, with fills, roll and fast playing, too much overpriced.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  8 лет назад

      +chris me That's a problem with the whole edrum industry, not just this module. But even with those limitations, it's still the best module sold right now

    • @Chrisloft
      @Chrisloft 8 лет назад

      Well 2box don't have this problem while it was released before Td-30, up to 128 multilayers wav per instruments and you can imports your own...Lets see what Td-40 will bring, if it is a 20% improvement over Td-30 without multilayers sound and importing wav, this module wont be successful, they have been releasing this type of module since ages, all the same with minor improvement. Now Pearl is VST based, totally differents, and lets see Alesis Strike pro.

    Hey Justin was thinking of upgrading to the the td30 from my 25. Does the 30 have a quick record feature?

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  8 лет назад

      I think so, but I never use it so I'm not sure. Its easier to just record into the computer anyway.

    Do the heads break?

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  8 лет назад

      Yes, that happens to all drum heads. They last a long time, and then you replace them with new heads.
