It wasn’t vengeance he wanted, but justice. Killing the mountain is simple enough for Oberyn, but he wanted to admit to the rape and murder of innocent women and children. He wanted him to confess that the current hand of the King, Tywin was not only complicit in their torture and murder but commanded it. He wanted justice for the whole conspiracy in front of the kings landing lords and ladies.
Oberyn wants the murders currently cloaked as hero’s and conquerors to be exposed for what they are. Child killers, prince and princess killers, raper of royal woman.
Just pointing this out because I think the nuance between vengeance and justice is a fun discussion tbc

Completely butchered Doran, Ellaria, The Sand Snakes, cut Arianne and the whole Dorne plot.

Yeah, I think a lot of that is lost on non-book readers. We get a lot more detail in the books of what a monster Tywin is via his Dogs, knowingly empowering murders, rapists and pedophiles against his enemies as a fear tactic, consequences to the innocents be dammed. Ppl love him way more in the show due to both Charles Dance's phenomenal performance, but also due to how much you don't see/read in the show. Much like how ppl think Ned's disinterest in playing King's Landing games was down to "stupidity" rather than mostly severe PTSD from Robert's Rebellion & the Sack of King's Landing (which iirc gets brought up in so many of his POV chapters, but you probably don't think about it much watching the show).

The thing is, Oberyn wanted the Mountain to say that Tywin is the one who gave him the order to kill Elia and her children, so Dorne can officially go to war against the Lannisters. The Mountain confessed he did it but didn't actually say Tywin's name, so all goes to nothing.
Everything he did was right. Problem is he was careless in that moment. It's heartbraking

Pedro stole the show that season, and we didn't really know him before. He just came in right at this epic level and you just get enthralled by him.. That's why his career skyrocketed after this - he's a true gem.
Pedro himself told that GOT had defined his current career and he was grateful for that
The smartest person in the show is Bronn, said he wouldnt fight the mountain because one slip and hes dead, described this fight perfectly

Bronn described Oberyn's death to Tyrion, he told him that he could dance around the mountain and hurt his legs in some way, but if he made the slightest mistake the mountain could kill him in a second.
Arya was laughing at the Hound, because he just went through all that with her and to get her there. Now he doesn’t even get the reward or anything. Her laugh is basically saying “haha you just went through all that to get me here and now you get nothing”

Gendry did not know he was the child of Robert so he probably had no last name. He's just the son of an Alehouse woman. Now that he knows his status people may refer to him as Gendry Waters, since he was born in Kings Landing in the Crownlands.

Varys once told Tyrion with a wink from the writers that "the revenge you want will be yours in time, if you have the stomach for it". But then again Ramsay told Theon "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention." And i promise you both of those lines were really written for the audience. George almost always tells you whats gonna happen before it does, if you have the eyes to see it. Frankly one of the biggest mysteries in the series can be solved by about page 35 in the first book. It's just that people dont see it until they have the benefit of hindsight, but he told you right away.

Arya laughing when her aunt dies is so funny and honestly so realistic. At a certain point, your brain breaks. I love Sansa's first chess moves, and I love her "you owe me" glare at Baelish.
I always thought about that beetle story as a way to show that tirion cared for even those little creatures, that everyone wants to crush those inferior to them, even a child killing bugs gets that evil adrenaline. But him being the shortest of all of them never found that satisfaction in others deads.

It wasn’t a confession though. The Mountain turned it into a brag. The part about Tywin was what he really wanted.
The night's watch does not come under warden of the north. In fact they are beyond the reach of king's law. The reason why Ned executed that deserter in season 1 was because be broke his vow and deserted his post. In such a case he can be captured by any lord and be killed for it according to the law. Mostly it's done by northern lords or more by Starks because of the obvious geographic reasons.

My read on the tyrion-Jamie conversation is that tyrion is trying to convey the human nature of man, even the simplest of minds, innately wants to crush those beneath him, not for advantage or riches, sheerly for pleasure. It’s very indicative of Westeros

That death was absolutely insane and the craziest thing I saw on TV at this point.
This was a Mortal Kombat fatality. Fetus Shanking out of nowhere was way more shocking to me - especially because the character isn't even present in the books.
Remember, The Bolton’s already have Winterfell and The entire North. It was given to them by Tywin Lannister for Roose Bolton killing Robb Stark at The Red Wedding.

All these years watching and rewatching GoT, all the reactions that I've seen... this is the first time I've understood the beetle conversation.
The moment y’all mentioned how excited you were for Pedro, I knew this episode would break y’all’s heart lmao
The number of times I said, “I hate this show, I’m so done, why am I watching? This is stupid, I’m DONE!” Lol. And yet I couldn’t stop.
The first four seasons of this show were so special! Usually in any other show or movie the heroes would be facing certain defeat before the tides turn on their favor at the last minute. Tolkien called this trope eucatastrophe (think Helm's Deep). But in this case is the exact opposite, and not many writers/showrunners are brave enough to do that. Is sad but at the same time is refreshing and kind of epic.

I stopped watching this show because of this episode! I was so angry at the end. My husband wanted to keep watching but I told him I couldn't. I couldn't with this show anymore. It actually took maybe 2 years to finally pick this show back up and finish it. That's how angry I was at Prince Oberyns death. I feel this so much I didn't think I would be able to watch it again. This was a great reaction tho. I felt this with you guys 😫😫

I think the cousin owen story is tyrion contemplating life and death as he awaits his fate. He see's how ppl die for no rhyme or reason throughout the world, and wonders if the "god's" are just random killers for no good purpose or plan...just like owen crushing his bugs.

Barring season 8, Oberyn's death was the only time I thought a storytelling mistake was made. The way it was shot, it didn't make sense to me that The Mountain could do that after being wounded that way. I've never been more butthurt.

It was likely incidental, but Carter and Brig simultaneously moving back at the same moment Littlefinger said to Sansa "first time I saw you, you were just a child," was hilarious. Made it look like they were instinctively backing away in disgust for Baelish :'D
