Hugh Jackman is 6'-2". Wolverine's official height in the comics is 5'-3". Jackman is so tall that, in the original X-Men film, they had to alter the sets to make him appear to be shorter compared to the other actors. Wolverine is also much stockier than Jackman could ever be. Hugh was definitely *not* born to play Wolverine, but he does a good job of it anyway.
I love the fact that Deadpool's chronic lack of ammunition in this movie is because the studio, which didn't really trust the movie to do well, put a limit on how many times Deadpool was allowed to shoot a gun. Ryan Reynolds is like perfect for the character and like you said it's scary how perfect he wants to be casted for that character. It's you can't see anyone else play that role it is super scary it was like a match made in heaven
Ryan Reynolds first became aware of Deadpool because a producer friend told him after seeing the film Blade Trinity that if they ever make a Deadpool movie he would be perfect to play him. Ryan confessed that he had never heard of Deadpool before, so the producer mailed him some Deadpool comics. When he was reading the comics there is a scene in one issue where he is walking down the street and an old woman asks Deadpool what he looks like under the mask, he then says “ I look like a cross between Ryan Reynolds and a Shar-Pei”. After Ryan heard destiny call to him he then spent the next 11 years trying to get this movie made.

Fun fact: In the comics whenever someone would talk too much, Deadpool would shoot himself out of boredom. Him shooting Francis is a reference to that.
My favorite instance of that was in the game. Where cable is droning on and deadpool is crying. Begging for the player to make it stop…then you push a button and he shoots himself. “DAMNIT WADE!”

This was actually the first movie to get Colossus right. His look from the comics, the Russian accent from the comics, his good nature. Deadpool looks like he does because his healing factor is working constantly 24/7 to fight his cancer.

The idiots at 20th Century Fox originally shelved this movie because they didn’t think it would make money, but they had their hand forced because because someone (and to this day it truly isn’t known who it really was) leaked the test footage on RUclips and within 24 hours they were bombarded with so much angry tweets and fan letters that they gave in and gave them a budget of only 1/3 of what the average superhero blockbuster costs. The most obscure joke in this movie is when Wade is being admitted to the lab and says, "Please don't make the super-suit green... or animated!". This is a direct reference to Ryan Reynold's staring role in the movie, so bad, it almost ended his career; “The Green Lantern” from 2011. It really was a bad movie and so entrenched in Reynold's worst memories, he even included a Green Lantern photograph falling out of a wallet during the opening credits of "Deadpool" (among other Easter eggs in other movies).
47:20 Colossus in the comics is Russian. His name is Piotr Rasputin. The previous X Men movies just showed him as a slender shiny man, which didn’t look comic accurate. Therefore, they made Colossus huge (as he should be) and Russian, which is based on the comics. Edit: His sister, illyana Rasputin, is Magik (played by Anya-Taylor Joy), one of the new mutants in the 2020 New Mutants film which is just a terrible film.
You're right Kristen, Deadpool is NOT a hero, he's an anti-hero. A character who straddles the line between good and bad, but he still only goes after bad guys. In his own comics and movies we're supposed to cheer for him because of how bad the bad guy is, but when he shows up in other character's comics (and perhaps movies eventually), he's often a problem they need to deal with.
Like Logan and his daughter Laura definitely not being clean cut heroes with how many bad guys’ heads are cut off in Logan. And of course Venom with how many baddies heads they tear off too
Regarding Kristen's comment about Deadpool looking like Spider-Man, that's intentional. Deadpool's comic creator Rob Liefeld even originally pitched the character to Marvel as "He's Spider-Man except with guns and a sword and he's a jackass." Also his use of swords was inspired by the DC villain Deathstroke that Liefeld was also a huge fan of, he even named Deadpool Wade Wilson as an homage to Deathstroke whose real name is Slade Wilson.
@@JakkFrost1 And Deadpool's co-creator has officially said otherwise. "This quote from Fabian Nicieza is pulled from The Classic Marvel Figurine Collection #56, which is an informative magazine published by Eaglemoss Publications. “When Liefeld sent his co-creator his first designs of Deadpool, Nicieza replied “This is Deathstroke from the Teen Titans.”” Not to mention the VERY obvious similarities in the names and costumes. Liefeld is either denying that the characters themselves are similar (which is true, they have very different personalities) or is just trolling fans. P.S. And let's not forget that when Deadpool (Wade Wilson) was first introduced, it was as a supervillain fighting the New Mutants, the teen mutant superhero comic at the time, and simultaneously Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) was a main supervillain antagonist for the Teen Titans in DC. But I'm sure it's TOTALLY a coincidence, Mr Liefeld! 😉
In comic book Canon Deadpool favorite person is Spiderman. So much so that he modeled his mannerisms and joking, his costume after him, including the eyes.he just carries it to extreme. He took a contract from criminals to kill Peter Parker not realizing that Peter was Spiderman. Their teamups have been classics
This is why I love Achara's personality. From watching these movies and other watch alongs, you can see how she has a bit of a depraved mind and I'm all for it. I'm thinking this might have been a bit much for Kristen but that's ok. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Deadpool can be a bit much for some people.
I love how every time he makes an inappropriate joke or offs someone Achara is sitting there smiling "holy s**t im loving this." and Kristen just looks disturbed
Deadpool is an anti-hero. This is probably the most accurate portrayal of all the comic book movies, up to and including the fourth wall breaks and the fact that Deadpool is aware that he is a character in a movie/comic book and lets you know that he is aware.
Colossus has always (to my knowledge) been Russian. His comic book full name is Piotr "Peter" Nikolayevich Rasputin. I'm guessing they had never bothered to have him speak with a heavy Russian accent b/c he's never been all that central to the movies so far.
The best way that I've described Deadpool to someone is that he's The Only one that knows that he's just a "comic book/movie character". Hence the 4th wall breaks to the reader/viewer 😊😊
In Marvel cannon Colossus has always been Russian. His name is Piotr Nikolayevich Rasputin, and his sister is Ilyana (they screwed her character up in "New Mutants", but whatever) and she is also a mutant. They nailed his personality here too.
4:00 No, Kristen. This is Ryan Reynolds’ creativity under a Marvel production. It’s completely Ryan Reynolds’ brain. Edit: I completely forgot it's a fox production, thanks for the correction guys. It is a Fox production owning rights to a marvel character.
This wasn't even a Marvel production. They had not yet bought Fox. This was purely a Fox greenlit project in the fact that they owned the Deadpool license. Now overall it is a Marvel character, but at the time this was made, Marvel did NOT have the movie rights to their own character (or any of the X-Men, or Spiderman either, and their associated characters/villains)
Both of the first two Deadpool movies came out BEFORE Marvel bought 20th Century Fox. The first was in 2016 and the second was 2018. The Marvel / 20th Century Fox deal wasn't final until 2019, Marvel didn't own the movie rights to Deapool until then.
I think one of the funniest things about this movie to me is that the henchmen Deadpool plowed through probably weren't lying when they said they didn't know where Francis was. They knew him as Ajax and Deadpool kept asking for Francis! Any survivors were probably like "Seriously! Who the f*** is Francis?!"
After Deadpool’s actual first appearance on the big screen with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we all know fans extremely hated it. So the test footage for this movie was released and just like that we get what I personally think is my favorite X-Men and Ryan Reynolds movie. It basically does everything to be hilarious and make fun of Marvel movies and other movies and it succeeded.
Deadpool is a Anti-hero, mostly funny and Maniac but still he is a huge threat to Avengers , he once destroyed whole Avengers + Xmen in a different timeline.
Deadpool looks the way he does because his body is still growing cancer cells. His mutation causes his good cells to attack the cancerous cells as fast as they form... but his mutant ability also causes the cancer cells to form faster. In truth, his skin should be writhing from the formation and destruction of the cancer cells.
Upvote to get this more seen. It makes sense that his cancer regenerates because it does share his dna, and therefor the same markers for the mutation...
Deadpool is NOT a hero, he is an anti-hero, he doesn't bother with all the pesky "hero" behaviour of stopping and locking bad guys away just for them to escape later, he just straight puts them down. 😅
Loved your reaction to DP. Yes, it's raunchy, low brow humor, and it's every little boys deepest desire to be a part of. Can't wait for y'all to watch 2!
With the exception of Christopher Reeves as Superman and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is the most perfect casting for any comic book character in film history.
J. K. Simmons as J Jonah Jameson is the most perfect casting. Ryan is tied second with Sir Patrick Stewart as professor X. RDJ takes third. Sorry Christopher Reeves like Hugh Jackman and Michael Keaton just ended up being MUCH MUCH AND WAY better than people thought they would be.
@@p.mc.4449 Sorry I forgot Wesley. He would tie third with RDJ. Definitely deserves a spot on the podium but tied for third is highest he should be. (In my head list at least)

The most Vancouver superhero ever made. Ryan Reynolds is from Vancouver, it's shot in Vancouver, near where I used to work and live, and the humour is very sarcastic and dark. @@bharat-dz9wi He has been rightly described as both an "anti-hero" and as a "villain protagonist". The two things are not mutually exclusive. White's antihero side is shown in his willingness to kill other bad guys, especially ones far worse than him, just like John Wick and Deadpool have done. Yet he still wanted to provide for his family despite his son's rejection of him. His Villain side was shown in his unwillingness to help save Jesse's choking gf, Jane Margolis. And his willingness to poison the child of Jesse's new gf. And he also poisoned Lydia and killed Mike. And he covered up of the unintended shooting death of that innocent 14 year old kid on a motorcycle. I think based on his later villainy, that he deserved a far more painful and bloodier ending than he received which is why I was not totally happy with how the show ended. But I think everyone acknowledges White's anti-hero status because they rightly rooted for him every time he took down another major criminal, sometimes in the most creative and ingenious way possible (e.g. the M60 machine gun scene). BTW there's a funny parody of Breaking Bad called "How Breaking Bad Should End - Key of Awesome #77!" ruclips.net/video/s1hxA_Nlf4Y/видео.html
@@x_trio_3_po333 The reason we sympathize with him is because we are emotionally invested at that point in the later seasons. But walter white is a villain pretty much. He has pride and ego. An anti-hero as rightly said doesn't kill innocents yet he lead to the death of countless innocents. Got jesse captured and tortured, he got hank killed and very much hated hank. Whatever walter did was for himself as rightly stated in the end. He got Gail killed by manipulating jesse. How is he a anti- hero in any sense. He clearly is a villain. Jesse went through hell because of walter. Again my point stand we sympathize with walt because. His wife doesn't have sex with him, hank undermines his manhood, his teaching job sucks, his son doesn't respect him, he has no control over his life literally because of cancer. We can see the how bad his life is and want better for him.
@@bharat-dz9wi If an anti-hero "doesn't kill innocents", then neither Dead pool nor John Wick can be called anti-heroes. Because in the opening battle scene in DP 1 on the freeway, Dead pool recklessly endangered the lives of numerous innocent car drivers, many of whom were also likely killed in car crashes. And potentially he could have also accidentally killed his girlfriend if she had been on the freeway on that day. Not to mention any innocent civilians walking nearby that facility that had exploded when he tried to escape from there. Ditto with John Wick who engaged in a public gun battle in the Red Circle club, numerous innocent club goers could have been easily killed by stray gunfire. Walter White was an anti-hero because he was a cancer patient and a family man, and he also killed more dangerous criminals than himself, and that is why we sympathized with him. And also is why he is rightly classified as an anti-hero, in addition to being a villain protagonist as a result of his breaking bad, i.e. his moral descent into the criminal underworld. The obvious dual tension of being both an anti-hero and a villain was what made his character so appealing to millions of viewers. So they could see how this moral tension would ultimately resolve itself. I think they did a pretty good job over all. But to write off Walter White as merely and only a "villain" is simplistic at best, and misleading at worst as it denies the various nuances of his real character.
Kristen comparing Gina Corrano to a shot puter is hilarious. Gina'd probably feel flattered and laugh her ass off those girls are tough as nails and twice as strong.
Colossus was always supposed to be Russion, ironically the most accurate version is totally cg. Also, Deadpool is crazy, but also aware he's a character in the movie. His power is basically super cancer, it's taken over his whole body. It heals and keeps him alive, but ruins his skin and messes with his brain.
5:20 Deadpool started as a villain in the New Mutants then X-Force comics. He became such a popular character that they made him an anti-hero like they did with Venom.
Colossus was Russian originally in the comics so it’s not some sudden change. They’re actually adhering to the source material. This entire movie was pretty comic accurate.
This is the only R rated movie I have ever gone to in the theaters where more then, a third of the audience was small children. Everyone loves Deadpool
I saw it at our local drive-in theater. The owner had a lot of irate parents when he made it an adults only night. He knew if he let kids in he'd have a LOT MORE irate parents! LOL
Swear to God there was a boy that had to be 12 or so near us & his mom gasped and covered his eyes during the strip club scene but his eyes were huge & has a "cool!" expression on his face 😂😅🤣
Just a reminder, that it's widely considered that Deadpool's greatest power is that he is fully cognizant of the fact that he exists in a comic. He is aware he is the main hero if his own story and that you, the reader/viewer are watching him. So while it may seem that he is insane or a sociopath, can you imagine what it would be like if you knew you were just a fictional character in what is effectively a simulation?
This is by far, one of my favorite movies, let alone a Marvel movie. Love getting to see someone experience it for the first time. By the by, Colossus is Russian who's name in the comics is Piotr Rasputin and has a sister in the Xmen also Named Magik
It's funny how she kept saying how immature and vulgar he is, and that this movie was made by little boys and it was crude, rude, foul and nasty, but she laughed through the entire thing🤦
She even comments at the end about how much she wanted to laugh and jump on board but refused to let herself because she thought she wasn't "supposed to", like she was getting set up to get cancelled. Which is tragic, really. Crazy that people can't just let themselves be themselves on the internet, what a world we live in.
Honestly this is one of my fav love stories in film. The playful and sexy banter and the fact they fell in love over a year instead of in a week was much more realistic. There's a line in DP2 that just puts the icing on the love story.
This film and Logan are probably the truest to the comic book characters. They needed an R rating to make that happen. Also, Colossus was always Russian.
Every major comic book character has their own tagline - perhaps the best known are The Dark Knight (Batman) and Blue Boy Scout (Superman). Deadpool is The Merc with the Mouth and Ryan Reynolds gives the role 1337%! Deadpool is also a 'crackpot conspiracy theorist' who believes that the entire universe is just a fictional world made up to entertain teenaged boys and comes up with the most insane explanations for inconsistencies that he notices. (Which is often hilarious because he's actually right but no one in-universe believes him.) It's also funny to note how he kept demanding to know where Francis was but no one would tell him - rather, they couldn't tell Deadpool because they only ever knew the guy as Ajax. Until he gets to 'Agent Smith' who, being a recruiter for mutant conversion program which produced Ajax, was one of the only people who knew him as Francis.
A major shot in the arm for the Superhero genre. The X-Men film franchise at an whole new level while toe to toe with the MCU. This character's comic debut was in 1990 as an villain, long before he was an anti-hero. Adaptating DP into a movie lasted over a decade with Reynolds fully committed to it in every aspect. It's also the directorial film debut of Tim Mlller, best known as an animator. Most say that the events for Days of Futurepast was part of the alterations to having the character done right or it's just standalone from X-Men origins:Wolverine. This film is brilliant and has everything it deserves. A great story with clusters of creativity. The supporting characters (ally or villain) are not too comic-booky neither. Even without the flashy stuff, the movie still feels strong enough to be entertaining. Ryan Reynolds' most celebrated role ever, in front of or behind the camera as writer/producer. This needed to be Rated-R to shake things up and away from the goody-good stuff. There is no 4th wall-breaking if it's not done by the "Merc with a Mouth" himself. Reynolds hams it up to the fullest. Poking fun at just about everyone and everybody. Pop culture is not off limits, neither is this franchise or other films in the genre (absolutely). Out of the many superhero films in 2016, Deadpool is among the most brilliant. Highest-grossing Rated-R film ever and winning 15 awards. You think this one is great, wait till you watch DP2.
Deadpool's blind friend is played by actress Leslie Uggams. She also played a key character ("Kizzy") in one of film and TV history's iconic mini-series titled, "Roots" (1977), named after the famed novel of the same name written by Alex Haley. It's an epic story telling the history of an African man, Kunta Kinte (plays by Levar Burton/John Amos) who was captured by western slavers. The series is a generational story that follows his family's journey of traversing slavery in America. Kizzy was Kunta Kinte's daughter that he fathered with his wife, another enslaved person named Bell (Played by late actress, Madge Sinclair, who also played the mother in Eddie Murphy's iconic film, "Coming to America").
Someone probably already posted this, but the blind lady is played by Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura in the Star Trek TV show and movies. Great to see her on screen.
I think it's hilarious watching Achara try to convince Kristen that Deadpool is a hero and Kristen saying he's a sociopath cause honestly they're both right.
Remember, they changed history in Days of Future Past, that’s why his origin is different here, it’s a new timeline, the events we saw in Origins: Wolverine never happened, or happened differently.
No history was changed. The Deadpool movies are their own thing. Just like the original trilogy and the first class movies despite the efforts of Days of Future Past trying to force a connection.
Kristen's inner Deadpool will surface in Deadpool 2, because now she understands the character. Achara, get watching Deadpool 2 with Kristen so you can all go out and watch Deadpool & Wolverine in the theatre July 26.
You have no idea how crazy Deadpool is. This guy killed the entire Marvel Universe 3 times and breaks the 4th wall so much it's a wonder he hasn't actually popped himself out of the comics for real and bring some chaos with him!
They changed it up because it needed to be corrected because what they did with his character in wolverine origins was complete shit this is the correct version of the character
I'm sure someone has covered this already, but just in case they haven't...This is the most comic accurate version of Colossus. In the comics, Piotr Rasputin, is from Russia and is recruited by Professor X when his powers come about as a teenager. He is a gentle giant with a heart of gold who tries to avoid violence when possible and follow the high road at all times, though sometimes he can fight dirty when it is truly necessary.

Deadpool and Colossus were actually comic book accurate in this movie unlike the previous xmen films.

Deadpool's comic creator Rob Liefeld even originally pitched the character to Marvel as "He's Spider-Man except with guns and a sword and he's a jackass."
Also his use of swords was inspired by the DC villain Deathstroke that Liefeld was also a huge fan of, he even named Deadpool Wade Wilson as an homage to Deathstroke whose real name is Slade Wilson.
Liefeld officially denies that, though he probably has to for legal copyright reasons.
@@JakkFrost1 And Deadpool's co-creator has officially said otherwise.
"This quote from Fabian Nicieza is pulled from The Classic Marvel Figurine Collection #56, which is an informative magazine published by Eaglemoss Publications.
“When Liefeld sent his co-creator his first designs of Deadpool, Nicieza replied “This is Deathstroke from the Teen Titans.””
Not to mention the VERY obvious similarities in the names and costumes.
@@Bodyknock I didn't deny all that, already know it, just said that Liefeld _officially_ denies it.

5:19 Deadpool is what is called an Antihero. They are good, but will kill. Specifically villains, bad guys, etc.
Like John Wick, Walter White, Leon the Professional, and Travis Bickle to name a few.
Walter white is a villain.
BTW there's a funny parody of Breaking Bad called "How Breaking Bad Should End - Key of Awesome #77!"
ruclips.net/video/s1hxA_Nlf4Y/видео.html

Just a reminder, that it's widely considered that Deadpool's greatest power is that he is fully cognizant of the fact that he exists in a comic. He is aware he is the main hero if his own story and that you, the reader/viewer are watching him.
(Which is often hilarious because he's actually right but no one in-universe believes him.)
It's also funny to note how he kept demanding to know where Francis was but no one would tell him - rather, they couldn't tell Deadpool because they only ever knew the guy as Ajax. Until he gets to 'Agent Smith' who, being a recruiter for mutant conversion program which produced Ajax, was one of the only people who knew him as Francis.

LOVED TO REWATCH THE MOVIE WITH YOU!, THANKS!
