- You folks have asked a lot of good questions while trying to figure out the best grapple to fit your situation. Well, I wanted to take a few minutes to give you my input on some frequently asked questions as well as providing my opinion after having had the chance to use each version: The Worksaver Electric Mini Grapple (ESCG-48JD) and the Westendorf Brush Crusher BC-4200. Now, my own experience doesn't necessarily mean it will line up with yours as my priorities and/or expectations could vary from yours. That's perfectly natural.
However, it's still a good opportunity to highlight some differences, but also provide similarities to try and simplify the decision-making process for you. We'll cover weight, construction, operation, design, and more in this video about two great grapple options for your tractor that don't require you to purchase costly additional hydraulics for your machine. Love my BC. I originally bought the 4200 because the model with extra teeth was back ordered. I ordered the extra teeth at the same time. Using it both ways, without the modification I did on mine, I would recommend just the bottom set of extra teeth. The serrations on the top teeth were causing the brush to get stuck. I've since removed the serations and I no longer have that issue. Also very important to put the jaw stops in the very lowest holes. Even when making that adjustment the jaws still interlock top and bottom. TTWT won't even try one on his channel and has formed an uneducated opinion on it. As always thanks for looking out for us little guys who can't afford the higher end stuff. The BC has been a life saver for me and was in my budget! Keep up the good work brother!

I used my Brush Crusher 4200 (on a 2025r) this weekend for the first time. It is definitely an affordable step up from using pallet forks!

As usual another very informative post. I have the bc4300 and a Kubota b2650 and I can attest to the sweet spot. I actually turned the contact arms 180 degrees and used two bolts per side instead of four. This allowed the stop arms to make contact behind the welded bracket on the loader arm. I also mounted wear skids on the arms for the stops to ride on because I didn't like the the stops wearing on the loader. Moving the stop contact point closer to the tractor also brings the stops right up to the hydraulic lines feeding the bucket. Which is also one of the reasons why I put the wear skids on the loader to make clearance for the hydraulic lines. I have to say at first that I was disappointed due to just what you mentioned, but I am lucky enough to have years of fabrication and machining experience and spent a few hours and got everything just the way I like it. BUT, this thing is a beast, it has performed way better than I expected. I have at least 60 hours on it and I absolutely love it. Con is getting it set up for loader arms , pro's are the fact I can switch from bucket to grapple in a few seconds and it's tough as nails. I carry my bucket in my grapple and it is just a handy way to get a lot of work done. I have property on the Ohio River and it had about an acre of waist deep drift wood that hadn't ever been cleared, well it is now. I know more will come back but it'll be much more manageable.
excellent inventions although having seen the brush crusher in action i almost think it would be better upside down, so the top jaw is fixed and the lower jaw works on the hydraulics. this then allows you to push down on the brush and scoop up or drop the load into a truck
I got the Brush Crusher 4200, and it has helped do a lot of work in the 4 months or so that I’ve had it. My biggest negative has been when closing down tight on a bunch of viney, thinner brush. Under the pressure of the clamping action, the thinner brush can get tangled around the lower jaw and lock it shut. I keep a hammer and a 2’ piece of rebar on the tractor to beat it open when it happens. If the grapple were hydraulic instead of mechanical, the open action would push right through the tangle and release the load. Kind of wish I would have spent a little more and got the work saver electric grapple. Good Works Tractor is great to do business with 👍🏻.
Good feedback and it makes sense. So if you work in heavily vegetated bushy land go for the powered grapple.
Karl Degraa in my opinion, yes sir. The BC has done an awesome job with bigger limbs, logs, rocks, you name it. But we have a lot of multiflora rose, blackberry bushes and other stuff in WV. I’ve learned to just have a little more patience with the BC when moving that kind of material.
I too have the Brushcrusher bc4200. Like you mine has earned it's keep although there are compromises the pluses far outweigh the negatives.
Breakfast with Courtney on a Saturday morning and talk about John Deere attachments . . . well, it does not get better than this . . . even better than Saturday morning cartoons and cereal. :)
Would be pretty sweet if they would make the electric mini grapple “top clamp portion only” to mount on top of a standard bucket. It would be a perfect match with my titan debris forks. They could make a top plate with the pivot points.

What is the load drawn by the unit on the tractor's battery and how does someone determine whether or not the tractor's electrical system is capable of handling the instant demand load drawn by that grapple without damaging or shortening the life of the battery or impacting other electrical functions? Hey I had a question I thought you could answer. I am looking to get a tractor and I have been watching some videos to kind of compare some tractors. Is there much louder noise running a Kubota over the John Deere ? In some of the videos I watched I noticed a loud noise while the Kubota was moving & being used. - Is their Hydraulics or something much louder ?

Glad you mentioned this item! After looking at the brush crusher for both of your reviews, I don't think you could dump a load in a dump trailer or dump truck, because the bottom jaws are level or pointing uphill when up in the air. They need to rework the mechanism (change the pivot point) so that the bottom jaws drop as the top jaws open. I realize you can change the stop location on the lower jaws, but i don't think it will be enough.

I am about to order a bx23s. The only reason I was going to get the third function was because I wanted a grapple. Maybe I will forget the third function and get the electric. I assumed the electric one was weak.
If you can get the factory/dealer third function fitted, get it. A 4 in 1 bucket will be so much useful than a standard GP bucket.

I have the BC-4215 (purchased from GWT, of course!) on a JD 3038e, and I can attest to the issue of the almost horizontal bottom teeth making it difficult to release the load. In my case, though, it's because I'm trying to drop the load into what has become a fairly tall burn pile, so the loader is up a good bit above ground level. I have adjusted the bottom teeth (well, the stop) once, and I'm going to have to do it again to see if maybe I can make it work better for my situation. Now that I've seen this video, and worked with the Brush Crusher for a while, I'm actually thinking that maybe I'd have been better off going with the electric grapple. I guess we shall see. (Like Courtney, I actually thought I wouldn't like the almost vertical bottom "teeth" (if you will) of the electric grapple, but now I see otherwise.) Let me be clear in saying that I'm NOT dissatisfied with the Brush Crusher -- it's doing a fine job! I'm only having this one issue that is probably unique to my particular situation. I just hope this helps somebody.
Thank you for the usage note. This is the exact concern I have with the BC unit as my main use would be to load a dump trailer with debris (very similar to your tall brush pile issue). Another commenter above (Jim H), had the same question/concern.
I would love to have the Brush Crusher with the middle set of teeth for the top & bottum rungs for my JD1025R.

Does anyone know why my loader joystick is gelling up and it is wanting to stay in what ever position I put it in.
