So, I have a Tesla Y Performance and ordered a MME that is about to be built. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the summer we go into the 90s and even break 100, on occasion. I feel the heat with a pano roof and bought a sun screen (net material) that fits into the entire pano area, with small clips and it keeps the sun/heat away. I rode in a MME on a hot day recently and Ford has done a better job, because I did not feel the heat as much as I did in the Tesla. I did buy an after market sun shade for the MME, so we'll see if I need it.
Thanks for that Kent, very interesting. You certainly would get some heat in your area and I bet others will find your insight helpful as well. I figured it wouldn't be too long for the aftermarket to come up with a sun shade!
Sounds like we have the opposite problem. Interior heating in sub zero temperatures didn’t seem to be an issue all winter, we’re in Qc Canada, even when left outside without being connected to power. However our A/C pump has failed last spring and again this spring. We are again, waiting for a new A/C pump. Hopefully they’ll receive it before the end of summer 🤞. I hope you get your heating issue fixed with that service bulletin.
Hi Steve - no kidding?! Did you observe any odd behavior prior to the AC going out, or did it just quick working? Two failed already? That's not good, I hope it's not a design flaw. Keep us posted
@@upnorthmike6085 Hi Mike, no there was no indication of it failing. Both times it was the same. In spring, first day I needed it, on a hot day and ‘boom’ no A/C 😕. Prior to that day I was only using heating.
@@upnorthmike6085 Its finally fixed. After they changed the compressor for the 2nd time, it failed 2 days later, the dealership got Ford head office engineers involved and they diagnosed the problem. It was the high voltage wiring harness that was faulty.
@@stevemit2858 I have heard that with EVs when the AC quits working then they basically disable the car so the battery won't overheat, is that true, or were you still able to drive like normal?
@@galatians515 There was no issue driving our Mach-e without the AC pump working in the summer heat, although even with the windows open it was unbearably hot at times.
I don't know if the batteries get A/C air, but I do know at the very least they get ambient air fans. That's likely the "2 stage" sounding fan I hear. Having said that, I wonder where that air is exhausted? I don't recall seeing any exhaust ports under the car...now I'm curious!
@@upnorthmike6085 first off, thank you for all the videos, I am going through them all right now, and really appreciate all the information. I am a tech at Ford and Chrysler dealer, and yes, EVs use the AC system in a similar way that the heater works. They basically use an AC evaporator in the coolant, separate from the heater system. They call it a battery chiller, and that runs through the battery to cool it down more because a normal cooling system like a car won't keep it cool enough. I believe they want it around or just below 100 F. Hope this is helpful information, and let me know if you have any other questions, I am not yet fully trained in EVs, so I may not be able to answer all your questions, but will definitely try. Thanks again for all the work you put into these videos.
I just got mine last week and the first time it kicked on to high I could feel the vibration in the accelerator peddle it was so intense. It scared me enough I stopped driving to check it out and see if something was wrong.
Hi Mike, Our Mach E GTPE is about 2 months old and has done this from the day we received the car. It has been in the shop twice now to try to determine what is causing the high speed fan to be on all the time. Were you able to determine root cause? I did notice that the fan that kicks on when charging and it is warm outside is much quieter, barely can hear it. This issue is only on when the car is running.
Az 112d today. AC fan is noisy outside. Tint on the moon roof and no heat issues.
Thanks for another cool vid man

I have two mustangs Mach E’s my ac went out at 110K on one of them cost me $3500 to fix it.
Ouch!

The cooling system may also cool the battery, maybe that’s why it seems overpowered and loud

They sure are noisy, especially on the high settings and it's really hot out!

Hi Mike. Mine seems to be working as it should now. Did you get the TSB work done on the HVAC module? I wonder if that would help?
