whenever you feel bad about your own life, just remember there are worms out there that survive by catching falling poop in a net of their own snot, which they then eat.
Wow, this is awesome. Thank you guys for bringing this type of content to the internet. It's because of you that I discovered that I actually find this strange creatures kinda cute and artistic.
I'm having a ball with your guys' videos. I major in art & design, & I kept a minor in zoology. All this stuff just fascinates me from you guys. Most people I knew didn't give a rats ass about the stranger animals I mentioned, they mostly cared about the generic stuff.
Years ago on PBS, I saw a video of what I think were early deep sea expiditions in the Johnson research submarine. They came upon this large worm corkscrewing, but as they get closer it dissolved into dust. Assumingly some sort of colony of organisms that had formed the worm. Wondering if you are familiar with this footage.
"Doctor, we just discovered two new species of deep-sea polycheate worms. The names we've given them are (extremely complex binomial name) and (extremely complex binomial name). What do you think?" "Those are terrible names and to be honest who'll remember them. One floats, one swims, right? Let's call them Flota and Swima." "You're not wrong..."
Hi there! What a wonderful video. :-) I am a filmmaker, and I'd like to use a few of the shots in this film for a film about mental health. I'd like to use two shots in a montage about the beauty of the natural world. Do you own this footage, and if not, can you tell me who does so that I can reach out to them? Thank you so much 🙂
Actually, it is a polychaete! Apparently, they are trying to look like chaetognaths! It is a Typhloscolid worm called Travisiopsis: dsg.mbari.org/dsg/view/concept/Travisiopsis
Skellysword Wow you just gave me a great idea for a story! Imagine an alternate natural history universe where our Earth's skies are inhabited by these little creatures, floating and swimming in the air... At night when its dark you would see these celestial centipedes floating around you like living constellations... What a beautiful sight....
2:50 I remember when that fucker snuck up on me in Subnautica and I used my swimming thing all the way back to my pod because I thought it was still chasing me.
MBARI I'm a student at a school where we study animals and learn about them 2. I wonder if I can talk to you somehow about having my work experience with you. I think the sea is awesome and have followed your channel half a year now, and I it wild make me so happy if I could have my work experience at the MBARI.
I think I saw a tomopteris at the beach, he kept on following me wherever I went. I was wondering if I hit him or his nest accidentally while swimming and he held a grudge. But he had his end toward me or I thought that was his end which is spiky kinda looking one. That was creepy. I keep shooing him and changing swimming spots but he kept on coming. It was about 7-10 cm with a feathery looking body, thinnner on one end. Field as he had spikey end but not sure. Kept on coming...
That is another type of alciopid worm (Rynchonereella sp) at 0:27 and the round thing to the left of it is a larvacean. Larvaceans are are a type of pelagic tunicate. The two jellies swimming by are narcomedusae (Aegina sp.).
The animal itself is wonderfully diverse but at the very beginning the narrator say 'you probably think of the creepy crawly ones'. Absolutely no person involved with any form of public science, whether or not they have a hand in the science itself or not, should use the terms creepy when describing Oligochaeta. They've undergone very little evolution because their the very good at what they do. If anything, humans should be the only creatures to attach the word creepy to.
Jo' Xolah Just a correction, actually they have undergone "a lot of" evolution, if what you mean are changes along time. They're very derived on the annelida tree. The most accepted theory today actually says they came from within the polychaete group, coming from a marine animal to a terrestrial form gradually.
This channel is a gem. Clear footage, fascinating facts, no sensationalism. So glad I came across it :D
I agree with you
This world is a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing this with us and showing us a world that many of us will never get the chance to explore.
Flota and Swima?? Sounds like their creative juices weren't flowing that day

Thank you guys for bringing this type of content to the internet.

This channel really deserves more views than people like Epic Wildlife.

those totally sound like pokemons. they could even be evolutions of the same, haha.

Nice video: One clarification: earthworms aren't polychaetes; they belong to a different class, Oligochaeta.
Amazing as always.
This is honestly unbelievable
tomopteris at 2:45 looks like the creature in Flow (a video game)
Great game.
i really like the music on this one
2:40
*Detecting multiple leviathan classes in the area, are you sure what your doing is worth it?*
I love this channel so much
Very cool! I encourage them to *stay* deep beneath the surface, though.
LOVE these guys
awesome pictures, thank you! what can be done to protect these creatures ?
We learnt about worms today :-)

Thank you!
These things make me itch
amazing, a whole universe under our feet, a different planet
0:40 isn't the worm Chaetognatha instead of Polychaete?
Actually, it is a polychaete! Apparently, they are trying to look like chaetognaths! It is a Typhloscolid worm called Travisiopsis: dsg.mbari.org/dsg/view/concept/Travisiopsis

Plumeria Melia λ I read those name with a jamaicain voice.
Saw @2:45 on attack on titan
What species is that one in the video that almost looks like a fish? No parapodia or setae, but a fish-like tail.
Sea worms, you move weird. (but I can't stop watching)
beautiful
does anyone know what the first worm is at the beginning at 16sec-18sec?
does anyone know what the fish looking worm is?
The misadventures of Flota and Swima!

1:40: Wild Solosis Appeared!
I’d like a lamp collection based on these.
2:50 I remember when that fucker snuck up on me in Subnautica and I used my swimming thing all the way back to my pod because I thought it was still chasing me.
What are they made out of?
at 2:08, the name maybe "Chaetopterus pugaporcinus " instead of "chaetopterus pugiporcinus".
What's the fishlike species at 0:40?
aronchai That is a polychaete worm from the Family Typhloscolecidae (genus: Travisiopsis).
Thank you!
MBARI Are you sure of this ? I have seen some Travisiopsis pics elsewhere that look much more annelid-like. A new species ? Or a new phylum ! ....
2:45 he looks like the contraceptive coil

jimmy sverin Please check out the diversity of MBARI internship opportunities posted on www.mbari.org.
Anyone know what that fish looking worm at 0:40 is called
I need to know this too.
That is the polychaete worm Travisiopsis dsg.mbari.org/dsg/view/concept/Travisiopsis
Thank you so much. I sincerely think that if fish became extinct, worms could do the job of baitfish and anchovies and things.

A lot of worms in the ocean are either beautiful or cute.
2:00 there is a human face on that worm
what is the species of worm at 1:03
and the little jellyfish things next to the worm at 0:27
That is an alciopid worm at 1:03.
That is another type of alciopid worm (Rynchonereella sp) at 0:27 and the round thing to the left of it is a larvacean. Larvaceans are are a type of pelagic tunicate. The two jellies swimming by are narcomedusae (Aegina sp.).
