    It is wonderful listening to this video I can't see much because of my blindness but I'm listening to it and I'm learning from it and it's nice to hear a gentleman and his lady talkin kindly to each other laughing and joking and having a good time that's the way marriage is supposed to be unfortunately too many people going to a mad marriage wondering what's in it for me and they don't realize it's not a me anymore it's an us but it sounds like you to have the us down perfect it was a pleasure listening to you young people God bless you both granny Tammy

    Mikey, please take this as just a suggestion. My mother was a Gourmet Chef and taught me that a rump roast was for slicing and the string is on it to hold it together. When you take the string off, the roast will slice easier. Chuck roasts are for shredding (or chunking, ie. pot roasts 😉).

    I’ve probably already commented here but what the heck...lol. I’m cooking this right now and, even though I know it by heart, I still watch it every time I make it...lol. I’ve cooked a lot of roasts over the years and I like to experiment with different recipes. I never really had a set-in-stone recipe like ones handed down by parents and grandparents. I stumbled upon this recipe about a year or so ago and I will tell u, in all honesty, THIS recipe IS now my set-in-stone pot roast recipe! Ever since finding this one, I haven’t even browsed for others...lol. It IS the perfect pot roast! Although, I do one little thing in the last hour that’s not in the recipe. We like our gravy/juices to be thicker so, when mixing the last packet of gravy, I add a bit of cornstarch to it before pouring over the roast. That’s just MY preference. But, yes...perfect with or without! Ty guys again!! 😁👍🏻

    I just subbed. Funny about the Big Butt song. When my kids were about 12 and 14 (boy and girl) we were driving with the windows down on a summer day. My kids started singing (screaming) the Big Butt song at the top of their lungs and we came to a light. There was a car next to us with a family in it and the kids in that family started singing the song with my kids. The kids all knew every word. The song wasnt even playing or anything, they just sang on their own. It was so funny.

    I'm trying this today, actually! Started it a few hours ago, with a few little differences...I have a small crock pot since I'm just cooking for me in my apartment... I used a 1.5 lb bag of The Little Potato Company tiny potatoes instead (fun to have tiny almost bite sized potatoes), and cut the onion into smaller pieces. The 1.6 lb roast was seasoned a little with minced garlic added to the salt/pepper, and I used your tip of the cup of gravy mix in the water.
    Started the cooking on low at 10 am, so we'll see how it turns out tonight. My first attempt a week ago didn't work well, so I'm very excited to see how this recipe turns out. Crossing fingers for meat as tender as what you showed!

    • @ravendebonair
      @ravendebonair 7 лет назад

      Mine didn't turn out as well... I think the problem is that my crock pot was too small to get the results in the video. I am working on getting a larger one and will try this recipe again. The potatoes and carrots turned out quite tasty and tender. The roast was fairly tender and came apart alright with the fork but I didn't get as much juiciness and coloring as they showed. I added a little flour to the juices and it made a very nice gravy which helped get some more moisture into the roast. All in all, I'd like to try this again with the larger crock pot which will hopefully make the cooking time closer to the instructions.

    Just an FYI the red juice that comes off of beef is not blood. It would be incredibly unsanitary for someone to sell you a cut of meat that was filled with blood.
    It's called myoglobin and it is a liquid that comes off the meat and is red in color simply because the color of the meat is red.

    Love, love, love your videos ! The recipes are awesome and "Mikey" is cool . I just have to smile at some of the things he says ! I do have a question though, how come you don't brown your roasts before you put them in the crock pot ? I was taught to always brown your beef or pork before you put them in an oven or crock pot .

    • @MikeyGoode
      @MikeyGoode  8 лет назад +1

      Hey Lauraly! (Love the name, btw, HUGE Gilmore Girl fans in this house) You can brown the meats if desired. Browning the meat adds a richer flavor to the dish and is totally okay. We do brown some meats in our dishes, liek our cubed steak and pork chops. It isn't a necessary step, but completely fine to do!

    You added comments throughout your video on things to do such as where do you thaw the meat out at? One of your informative questions was do you leave the strings on or off. You purchase a roast with strings on and generally you are paying more money for the roast to be tied like this. The strings hold the meat together while it is cooking. Years ago when my little sister was living in her first home, she invited my daughter and I to dinner. She had went to a wonderful store that was in our area who prided theirselves with the hand cut choice meats. My sister said it was the funniest piece of meat she had ever seen because there were strings all around it. I asked what she did with the strings. She said she removed them of course. She had went to the store and asked for a 3 lb roast and the butcher cut the roast to be 3lbs and tied it up. She therefore unknowingly paid more for the cut of meat and came home and cut off all the strings. We laugh about it years later. The roast by the way was her first roast and turned out delicious. I realized the reason she had never seen a roast tied before is because growing up we lived on a small farm and butchered a cow every fall and the meat was wrapped in paper vs. the see through wrap you see today at the meat market. Just thought I would share this. BTW.....I loved the roast I made from your video. Keep up the good work. Blessings.

    just a suggestion for add ons. instead of water use beef broth. add a can of cream mushroom soup at the end when you do the cup of water and 2nd gravy packet. i usually just use brown gravy mix cause it all tastes the same to me lol. the only gravy that i usually like is home made from drippings but with the beef broth and the drippings form the roast in this one it's delish! trust me the difference is unreal just adding those two ingredients. the soup melts down into the liquid and basically makes it thicken for gravy afterwards. you don't have to thicken it . ps i love a good pork roast toooo made pretty identical ! only i don't add cream of mushroom with pork

    It sure must be good. I season the roast with salt/pepper and fry the sides of the beef in a pan to flavor it. Also sorry but no I do not leave blood in the crockpot. And I would use big cut up carrots not those little carrots in a bag. Although they are convenient, do not believe they are really good quality. Sorry. I love your sense of humor.
