Man I'm so relieved. I always thought the thermostat was inside the engine block lol. I didn't know it was literally right in front on these 4th gen Camrys. Great video!
I have a 2000 Toyota Camry no ac heat was one temp car made a weird noise when starting , car was heating up way too fast and lost coolant a couple times . Did some research Used this video to replace thermostat and it fixed all those problems everything came back and it only cost me 30$ thank you guys had no engine light either
I appreciate the info in this vid, but It should be noted that you do not have to remove the pan underneath the radiator in order to drain it. There's a hole right below the petcock that allows it to pass through.
+Jared Berger Thanks for checking us out! While it is possible it is the thermostat, we cannot provide an exact diagnosis over the internet. We'd suggest getting your vehicle checked out by a local mechanic to figure out the exact problem. 1aauto.com
What would be the consequence of doing this without draining? My bolts in the skid plate are rusted to kingdom come and I can't get anything on them to pull them out
+Derek Gleue It's going to make a big mess and dump coolant out of the thermostat housing. That's the only real downside, try to catch and dispose of the coolant as best you can.
For future reference and other readers, I was able to reach down from the top and reach the valve. The skid plate on my 98 had a hole for it to drain out of.
There is a raised notch in the casting at the twelve o’clock position on my new water pump, so I imagine that this is the proper position. It makes since logically, too. As the coolant level decreases, air is then able to pass through the jiggle valve. At six o’clock, air flow my not be achieved… I think…
I was always taught to put a little grease on o ring just like rubbing oil on o ring of oil filter. Owner before me never greased contact spots on brake pads/calipers and of course it seized up on rotor. Like to hear what pros say about this
+pineapplekatrina Thanks for watching! P.S.A. IF YOUVE DONE WORK ON YOUR 97 TOYOTA CAMRY,S COOLING SYSTEM. Try filling the block. after its cooled with anti freeze. Through the top radiator hose. I replaced my all the sensors on my camrys cooling system and the thermostat (over achieving maybe?) When refilling the cooling system my car kept over heating Not really sure why filling through the top radiator hose worked but it did Hope this helps someone
My 98 camrys temperature hand is only in the middle of it's idling if I turn the heat on it's on the white line or if I'm driving with no heat it's up only about 20% does this sound like a stuck open thermostat
+1mil camry We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
In this video the coolant used to refill the radiator is not toyota approved. The coolant drained from the radiator was pink/red and what the radiator was refilled with was green coolant which should not be mixed. This will be bad for those who follow this video to the tee!
I replaced the thermostat in my ‘99 Camry ‘cause the temperature would get weirdly low on the highway; not overheating though. I’m assuming I topped up the coolant afterwards, but now I’m hearing a burbling or sucking-ish sound from the reservoir. Why?
+Braulio R. We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I believe that jiggle pin is for letting air bubbles pass correctly out of the system. As such, it should be oriented towards the TOP of the TStat housing, so that said bubbles can move through it. If you mount it upside down, you will trap air in the pipe.
1A Auto, Do you need some type of gasket for the housing in addition to the O-ring that fits around the thermostat? I was told that you only need the O-ring because that's considered the "gasket", but I just want to make sure. My car doesn't leak coolant, but I believe the thermostat is stuck open so I'm going to replace it. Thanks.
Im trying to get a understanding on how to replace a upper thermostat radiator hose not the lower can you do a video on a upper thermostat cause thats what im having a problem with..

I'll ask my question, and hope for an answer. I changed the thermostat (used a new fail safe), new radiator, new water pump and water pump housing (had to do the timing belt anyway). I flushed the coolant system, too. Got heat in the car, but the new thermostat is not opening, and it is not damaged. The coolant level is full. I got all the air out that will come out. Why is my new fail safe thermostat not opening?
+Steven Rochin Thanks for checking us out. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a diagnosis for your vehicle over the internet, we would suggest consulting a local mechanic to figure out what is going on. 1aauto.com
So my 01 camry heats up all the way to the top when it idles or drives slowly. I noticed one of the radiator fans occasionally doesn't turn on when the other does, but do you think it's the thermostat that's the issue or the fan? The coolant empties within 3 days but I've been told there's no leak :/ I'm not sure what to do and don't have a lot of a mechanic right now. I was just scammed 1k at a shop
on my 98 camry, the temperature is normal and leveled off, but when i accelerate, the temp gauge jumps to near-red, then levels off again. Does that sound like a new thermostat? or potentially blockage?
+Adam Lee This does sound like a symptom of a bad thermostat, however there could also be multiple reasons for this. I would highly recommend getting this checked out by a certified mechanic to avoid replacing parts that don't need to be replaced.

I just completed the thermostat change thanks for the tips dude

So did u know it was the thermostat because it was no pressure in that top radiator hose
Replaced the cracked radiator yesterday with the help of your videos, car was running fine until highway speeds, thermostat possible?

u dont hav2 remove the skidplate bc thers a outlet hole 4the coolant?
I can confirm. I just did this to drain and refill...

What position should the jiggle valve on the thermostat be at for this engine?
Good question 🤔

I have a 98 camry V6 I am having trouble removing my thermostat housing
I did this today and coolant started spraying out of the sides, do I need a gasket or rtv or is the problem that It wasnt tightened enough?
did you buy a new o ring replacement for the thermostat?
What is the part number or a link to buy the thermostat housing gasket please?!!! I can't find it anywhere! Not the O ring thermostat gasket.

What is best temp on an 01 Camry 4 cyl? Code reader says it runs at about 202 degrees so I hope that’s not been to hit.

That's the wrong coolant. You have to use the pink Asian vehicle type.
Misinformation
You DO NOT need to drain to replace the thermostat.
