99 Camry 250k miles - Performed disconnect test, both fans shown good. Replaced brown fan relay taken from junkyard, both fans spin --FIXED..! $0, 10 min, no swearing. I LOVE YOU..!
Awesome! I love it when a plan comes together.
Thank you for your video on over heating Toyota Camery (1997 -2001). My son in law and daughter were quoted $1400 to replace the radiator, fans, thermostat and hoses on 2000 camery only worth $1200. Using your video we were able to prove the fans were operational and narrow it down to the three fan relays which we replaced for $73. Overheating problem solved, and your video saved them from having to replace their auto. Thank you soooo much!!!!!!!!!!
Brother I'm on a 9 hr drive home from work in my 97 camry. 11pm right now and just got back on the road thanks to your video.
Thanks, good info. For limp-home mode (cold weather, 40F) I pulled that connector to enable the fans and then pulled one relay so that only one fan was running (so it didn't overcool). I'll test the fan thermoswitch later (when replacing the radiator which seeps coolant at the top tank).
thank you for your help. didn't know where to start. i am on the right path now!

Your video truly helped diagnose my overheating problem with my 99 Camry!
Awesome so glad to hear that. Thank you for commenting.
Just curious what was the issue?
Explain and diagnosis for this problem is very good thank you for this vedio
My God dude I just replaced my radiator and coolant temperature sensor only because I didn't have the tools to test my fuse and this helped me out so much
Great tips. I'd check the fuse first, then the relays. Unplugging the sensor connection could save buying a fan, which is what I was just going to do. (My ex wife in another state has a Camry, and the A/C fan comes on, but not the thermostat one, leading to the car getting hot when sitting in traffic. My son should be able to check that out, based on your video. Thanks!
Nice video! Nice trouble shooting list rundown!
Very nice informative video Victor! So many freakin' controls on everything nowadays!
instablaster.
You just saved me from paying for new fans. Many thanks brother!!!
Awesome thanks for telling me. Its very motivating to hear that I will keep making videos.
Man I’m soooo grateful for this video!
I like this video, very helpful. I have a 2002 Camry and my cooling fans just quit the other day. Will it be similar to the 2001?
Nice video...
I swapped the engine on a 2.2 lt that was running good.
But now the engine that was swapped is overheating...but I noticed that my fans ain't coming on...I'm gonna try this tomorrow thanks!!!!!
Thanks I just changed my thermostat because it gave me problems last winter with not heat put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to have heat to get to a Doctors appointment. That work fine . So I have been watching this site I love it. I am a 72 year old male, and still working on cars.
I understand that. Im not too proud to say ive used the cardboard trick before too. I still keep some around for a lot of other stuff too. Just as handy as duct tape and pieces of old 2x4's. Cardboard is your friend LOL. Glad to here you can still turn a wrench Im 54 now Im eating right and exercising 5 days a week hoping I can still turn a wrench in my 70's. I wish you another 30+ years of wrenching my Burnt bruised and bleeding InSaneFriend
You just saved me $600. Thank you so much! God bless you.
Very helpful video !
this will be a big help for me. will check with that and test if its working as demonstrated. tnks bro
Thank you for commenting
I greatly appreciate you, I thought it was my fan from the beginning, but when you showed me the fan trick, it then, was confirmed..... Just left pick n pull, for $40 I'm back on the road.👍💯
Awesome! Glad I could help

Thank you. Your video helped me diagnose the problem
Glad it helped. Thank you for commenting.
Great video thanks brother . Did you switch relays and still have the same problem ? I have seen a kit out that you can test them. I think it's called a relay buddy not sure of that . I just know that you can take a relay and plug it into the tool and it runs a test on it . I do believe that it comes with test relays so you can plug it into the car and check the circuit . Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother . I do like the old school ways
Nice video 👍👌👍👍
Thank you for this very informative!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the info

My fan come on when I turn on the air machine hey want come on with air off.why I set a while start running hood.I replaced the number 1a I’d three relay.I’m having a heck of a problem.your video was really helpful.
It’s always a relay. I’m diggin that drivers very seat cushion. Knowledge is king! 👍🏻
Got a 96 Camry the car is doing the same thing as your car is doing in this video is there any more testing that you can do to get the fans to work we wiggled the relays that seems to be fine I feel the clicking on the 3 relays so we are in need to get this fixed or do you have any more videos on this thank you for your time and help
Gracias por la información 👍
Exactamente mi problema.
Mañana arreglo mi carro.
Ojala sólo sea problema del relay.
Gracias por la info.
Thank you broski❤❤❤❤
Amazing.. Is it fan motor connect with dasboard meter? My dashboar awlays on and off repeated while driving, if meter going down, my meter running down oso...
Hi. I got off the couch and got dirty.. I have a 2001 Camry USDM, it's the only one in the Philippines, I think. Anyway I have a problem, the left side fan gets going as soon as I turn the ignition on. I tried to disconnect the wire but still ran anyway..I am a newbie with car electricals. Thank you for your inputs of any and hope this channel will help more DIY guys like me.more Power.
God bless you and our Camry community.
Thank you
Hey Sane. My passenger fan wont come on after I pulled fan 3 relay out. It was very hard to pull out and plug back in. It was running when I pulled it out
Ty so much great vid
Glad it helped
Yes hi. My problem is in my 2000 Toyota solara my fans constantly run not when the key is off but when you just turn the key on the fan to run so the car always takes a long long time to warm up so I was just wondering what you might think that could be as well I'm sure it's on the same line as maybe the relays maybe I don't know but the fans always run constantly. If you have an idea please let me know thank you
Not exactly my issue but I did have that one . Did exactly what u did... It worked. Now I have ac issue. My car guy here in town seems to think it the Head? Controls in car , ac button ? Need advice. Like your down home style. Thanks sane car man. Hot in Hot Springs AR
I hope this Camry Video helps with your A/C issue -- ruclips.net/video/871qKkO6Vjo/видео.html
Nice video !!
My fans stay on when the car is running with A/C off
Check coolant temp sensor at the bottom of radiator. It may be have circuit stuck closed.
Cool video..SanAuto.
hey mate, just had a look at my 98 model and turns out the interior fan turns on although the radiator fan does not. i couldn't see the temperature sensor are their any other locations the sensor could be? this stuff is over my head at least with what i currently know... any advice at all, and thanks have a good one.
Good video bro
Im sure it helped a lot of people
How long can I have that connector unplug running the fans through out the week. I think its the sensor and my auto store have to order the sensor. All the relays work and thermostat is new. The fans only run when the connector is unplug and it doesn't get hot fast.
God bless you thank you
So, did you replace the relay on the fan that didn't come on? Cause my 92 camry only turns on one fan when hot(the same u spun with the orange relay) but the other doest not come on, only with the ac switch and just then both come on
I have the same problem, my temperature gauge is not working, and I tested the relays but they are good.
My relay socket seems to be bad ..when I jiggle the fuse fans come on.. do I use a continuity tester to see if socket it ok
Hi there, Inhave a 2000 Toyota Sienna. The fans only come on when the heater is turned on, when the car is left to idle the fans never kick on. This causes the coolant expansion tank to keep filling until it over flows spilling out as the liquid expands from the engine heat.. There are no codes or check engine light. There are three fan relays back to back just like yours with a brown one in the middle. However the fuse cover doesn't indicate a "Main" fan relay like the large green relay on your camry. There is a large black one that just says Main.
What is the part name of the sensor in the bottom of the radiator? I think I need one of those but can't figure out the name of it.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching and commenting
Thanks this video was very helpful it saved me some money.
Awesome Im so glad to here that. thank you for letting me know.
I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon. Fans didn't come on until I pulled a plug off a coolant sensor. Is there a way to determine which relay it is? When the relays are hooked to test leads and a 9 volt battery they click as though they function. Any help to diagnose would be awesome. Thanks. Great video as well.
The power has to go through the relay to get to the fans. If they came on when you unplugged the sensor the relay is working. That also tells you the fan motor works. The 9 volt test you did also makes me think your relays are working. Try changing the sensor you unplugged. The 96 may be different but the 97 I was working on here has 2 sensors the one at the engine amzn.to/2S993hC but I think the the one in the radiator is different.
Gracias
2000 camry 2.2 The fans work they turn on when AC on or the lower plug on front top on radiator rear unplugged. What I am trying to determine is how to find if the temperature sensor on lower radiator is faulty thus might be keeping them from automatically turning on.. Right now it seems as though they might not be because the fans do not turn on automatically. Work done to figure this much out is replace thermostat I'm trying to not buy both a temperature sensor and a relay
thanks dude but why the fans are rotating anti-clockwise instead clockwise, for when I reversed my ones to be clockwise it started to boil, but the steam that I noticed was more on the two pipes that connects to the heater
now I didnt have any problems with the rotations of the fans, the problem I have is that when the engine is hot and the temp is halfway on the display , the oil light will flick when I am not accelerating, but when I am accelerating it switches off, now when the engine is cold the light remains off, what could be the problems because I have changed oil 2x and oil filter and even used engine flush.
I have the same car and year, same set up. my problem is fans do come on with aircon, but I'm worried the heat sensors you point to on the pipe are not working. Is there a way I can test with engine cool? I(ts summer here in New Zealand and it get mighty hot. Your video is so good and and you explain things well. Thanks you, Marc
Did you ever figure out the answer to your problem? I'm have the same issue.
@@jacobfrench3961 I replaced all the sensors 3 I think, then I replaced the radiator cap. It all seems to work now
I love this video very informative! Straight to the point! Have the same issue with fans running all the time so I’m changing the relays first then fuse then temperature sensor but first I drive it for a while to see which one fixes it first will post an update
Awesome keep us posted
Please post which one fixes your problem. I'm having the same problem. My fans stay on.
@@bassflo1 what fixed the problem?
We still waiting
Still waiting
So if the relays are ok and the fans run fine with the temperature sensor unhooked does that mean the temperature sensor is bad?
My sons 2001 camry has this problem..fans working but only when heat is turned on...must be a fuse..right? Already replaced both temperature sensors on top of engine.
This is really informative, thank you
Can anyone help me though, I have the opposite problem of this video! My fans are running all the time even with the car off in the key out!
Have you tried pulling the fan relay out?
@@saneautohi
i have not yet
I actually thought that was probably going to be eight implant to get one tomorrow, or check it
However, I then remembered that my right tire went over a curb and something scraped a little right before I noticed the fans staying on all the time when I turn the car off!
So, I'm thinking it's probably the sensor on bottom passenger side of radiator
Leaned a few things, though my car is older. Must say though, I found the music to make the video almost unviewable. You don't need the music. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for your comment and views. Your right. Since this video I have switched to Davinci editing software. I have much better audio control now. Most of my newer videos have much lower volume music or no music at all.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Your welcome. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Both fans are out i think its main relay switch fan #1 I can hear #2 switch but not #1. Could there be another problem that would cause both fans not to turn on.
Hey I have this problem but the fuses are good .. and thermostat and coolant sensor is fine no codes are reading ... Had a engine gasket replacement
Thanks man helped a lot. I’m surprised about unplugging the sensor so it will stay on
Hello I have a 2001 Toyota Carmy I’m having the same problem but the driver side fan working but the passenger side fan not working , and my gags going up a little like it trying to run hot ,,,what should I do.
Ok, bought my daughter a 97 Camry with 179,xxx miles the other week (knowing it needed a couple of things done to it that I am more than capable of wrenching on like new struts, brakes, sway bar bushings and end links) and the 5SFE 2.2 had the original factory thermostat stuck open, as it was running very cold and the temperature gauge mainly stayed pegged on C while driving (outdoor temps were 0°-20°F) and would climb about halfway up to normal when stopped at a light. I replaced the thermostat with a new OEM one. Now it comes up to normal operating temperature on the gauge (confirmed with both an OBDII scanner and an IR gun to the thermostat housing) and holds there, but the radiator cooling fan doesn't come on at all (ambient temps have been 45°-65°F) even with high speed runs out on the highway followed by prolonged idling in the driveway. (My 95 Camry with 5SFE engine will kick the fan on and off when idling for prolonged periods).
I watched your video, with the lower radiator twmperature switch plug disconnected, both the engine cooling and A/C fans operate. All three relays can be felt to be engaging. No change from wiggling, both fans run. Pull #2 relay and engine fan quits. Reconnect lower radiator temp switch, both fans quit. Turn on the A/C system and both fans operate.
I replaced the lower radiator temperature switch with a known good used one and the engine cooling fan still does not operate. Pulled the connector apart again on the top corner of radiator and both fans came on. Jumpered the two female terminals in the harness plug and the fans went back off.
Went to the temperature switch (two terminal, green female connector) mounted next to the temp gauge sender in the upper radiator hose elbow on the driver's side of the engine and disconnected the plug. No change, fans did not run. Jumpered the the female plug, nothing. Both the engine compartment 30A fuse and the dash panel 7.5A fuse for the fans were/are fine.
I'm stumped. Is there a wiring issue to the engine (upper radiator hose elbow) temperature switch? Do I need to replace both the lower radiator and the elbow temperature switches with new OEM switches? I currently have the lower radiator switch harness disconnected to run both fans constantly, as my daughter's daily commute between her apartment and both jobs entails a lot of stop and go driving across town and back and I don't want to run the risk of overheating and toasting her motor.
Suggestions?
HI there, did you solve the problem ? I encounter the same case. I guess it might be relay #1 or radiator temp sensor, though 2 mechanics changed them before.
@@hubert408 Yes. The system was operating as it should! The coolant temperature just wasn't hot enough to close the temperature sensor! Once summer hit, it would cycle on, and when the A/C was turned on, the second fan would kick on, regardless of ambient or coolant temperature.
@@hubert408 did you solve this problem?
@@ProvacativeAcorn I am pretty sure that the problem is with radiator sensor. We have 3 temperature sensors: one for engine, for I can read engine temp correctly so it's good. one is called gauge sensor for display only. it's no the problem. Only radiator sensor might cause the problem. Another thing I excluded: all relays work for I can see both fan can turn on.(unplug the radiator sensor cable, both fans would turn on.so control circuit is good) But because some mechanic changed the radiator sensor , my friend believed that sensor should be good. I finally don't know what's the culprit, though I still think the problem is with the radiator sensor.
So I have a check engine light says temp sensor I've changed all 3 sensors my fan doesn't seem to come on at all car stays same temp about medium heat lmk if you can help thanks
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Nice I like 👍
Thank you!
By any chance do you know what the sensor (grey)next to the coolant temp sensor(green) is called?
I have a problem with my 1999 the fan doesn't come on and I tried what your video showed what else can I do
Muchas Gracias ...!!
Your welcome
1:00 can you explain more about that sensor on the bottom of the radiator?
I have a wire with a broken connector that goes down that way, but just sits on the floor. The other end is exactly where you had your hand. Where you could see but we couldn't.
I replaced my radiator yesterday, but didnt see anything for that.
2:55 my fans are always on *when the car's on.* but not when it's off.
EDIT: i think i figured it out. You were a huge help dude! Thx!
Thank you for commenting. Im glad you figured it out. Hope you get lots more miles from your Camry. We also have Prius repairs too. ruclips.net/video/8fshMta375I/видео.html
How do you change the socket that the relay for the coolant fan
Omg, thank you
God. Video. 👍👏👍
Your issue is the exact same as mine with wiggling the relay. Have you tried to replace the fan switch located on the radiator? That was the problem with mine.
Wait so both your relay was bad and the fan switch was bad?
My 1998 toyota camry fan goes on once you start start the car is the normal? And the car overheat on a high speed of 140km-180Km but the temperature remains normal at 120km.
Is there a certain way to get the connector off? I cant seem to get it off.
I'm having same problem, wished you would've fixed problem. Was it main relay, the green one? I'm not even getting power to #1 relay
Thank you. I unplug the cable you guy’s showed me and fans on. Made it home thank you.
What fixed this issue ? My. Car is doing the same exact thing
Sir..my 1MZ-FE engine has 3 fans..2 in front of the radiator and 1 in front of the condenser.. when the AC is on..only 2 fans will work..The one in the condenser will not work..and my AC is not cold.. do i have a bad fan? how to fix it?
Is it only suppose to work with ac on
How do you rewire the temp connector on the radiator
97 Camry v6. Fans inoperable at all times. Fan motors tested and work independently. Unplugging two wire fan switch at bottom of radiator does nothing. Relays check out fine. Thermostat and water pump fine. What else could be issue. Ecm?
When I unplug that cable the fans do not turn on even when the AC is on. The fans don’t turn on when the engine is up to temperature. I checked the resistance of the engine coolant temp sensor on the bottom of the radiator and its reading 7 ohms. I know when its a cold, the engine should be reading 5-6k ohms. I tried bridging the connection of the disconnected wire to bypass the sensor to verify everything else worked and it still did not work. I replaced all the relays and checked the fuses inside and didn’t see any issues. I connected each fan to the battery and they both worked so I am stumped on what else it could be.
