juliandaniels....
I bought a used Mesa Boogie 2x12 guitar cabinet. It has a great sound, the only things that was annoying was the worn out front grill cloth. So I decided to buy a new grill cloth. It was very easy to do that. Now it almost looks like a new cabinet with a good looking grill cloth.

Two dislikes? All he did was change his grill cloth.
No, all he did was show some pics. I’m guessing a lot of people, like myself, clicked on this to watch someone actually changing the cloth. Thumbing this down isn’t far fetched.
@@Col_MULLY As I changed the cloth I really didn’t think about making a video. It came into my mind as I finished it, that was silly, sorry for that. But I never imagined someone could be interested in a video like that cause this is very easy to do. Even my grandma could do this. Maybe I will do an updated video with a 4x12 recto cab someday.
@@JulianDaniels where did you source the grill cloth from? Looking to do the same with mine
Sounds so much better with the new grill cloth! Awesome!
Just curious, does anybody know anything about the so called dip that mesa does to the grill cloths? Could one perhaps argue that your losing out on some of what makes the mesa's special because of the dipped cloth, or that it would change the tone? (It supposedly filters out some of the higher end frequencies) how true that is I dont know! It would be cool to see if there was a tone difference between old and new cloth! Any thoughts?
I didn’t think I’d like that color cloth on that cabinet, I was wrong……very wrong. That looks very nice. Rich, classy.
I think this looks a LOT better than the first one. Nice tone too :) Greetings from a fellow RUclips Musician :)
I can’t remove the back panel. I took out the jack panel and am pulling really hard but nothing. Any tips?
Keep on pulling. 😅😂 Sometimes it’s really hard to remove the back panel.
Good job man! I have same cabinet and was thinking of using camouflage. A bit of an Anthrax tribute.
Nice! One question: Was the grill also glued? Cause after removing the screws mine won't come out of the Cab. Thank you!
As far as I remember it wasn’t glued.
Right, I got it out there. Thank you! Your Vid was very inspiring.@@JulianDaniels
Dude where did you get that grill cloth? Impossible to find
I got it from Tube Town in Germany.
I'm thinking about hacking my vertical Mesa slanted 2x12 more to the size of the horizontal Mesa you have. The grill cloth was my biggest worry but it looks straight forward enough. Any thoughts on a project like that?
Wow, that came out great! Shred on bruh!
Awesome+ From where did you get the new grill cloth?
dEAdpain Thanks! I got it from a shop here in Germany called Tube Town. You get all kind of cloth and leathers from them.
Awesome job! I want to do this to my bass cabinet.
Awesome. Thank you for posting. I have to replace the one on my 4x12
Thanks for sharing this, with the piping and stuff I thought the grill on my mesa was glued-in or something. This shows It's actually pretty do-able!
Nice! My 4x12 is way overdue, thank you for posting this!
i removed the mesh on a carvin 2x12 cab (to get better mic placement) and was completely disheartened when i saw how many industrial staples there were, and how ridiculously deep they went into the wood. (about 3 times as many as you put in yours) i realized it was going to take me countless frustrating hours to dig them out... and opted to cut the grill cloth with a razor. it worked rather well, and there's still enough cloth left to reinstall it if i ever decide to. wanted to do the same thing on my mesa 4x12, but wasn't sure if that piping was going to make it even more difficult. Thanks for the video! i can see it's not as big a deal as i was worrying about. (Don't worry i won't cut the grill on the Mesa. it's actually in perfect shape. i just want to position mics closer to the speakers. i'll do the leg work on this one).
Those guitars are making my brain hurt. Also, I have plastic frames in the speakers that I want to replace the cloth on. I guess my cloth is glued on.
Great video. I like your tone also. Is that an SM 57 and Sennheiser there together when you are playing at the end? They appear to be way off to the side of the speaker.
Anyone knows how they fasten the Mesa badge in 1x12 cabs? Is it fastened in the cloth?
Where did you buy the replacement grill cloth?
As I live in Germany I ordered it from tube-town.
Great job with the grill cloth. Awesome tones too shredding!
I was sceptical but that looks the business! Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Hi can you pls share where you got your staple gun. Great job. Thanks 👍
Dre Hi, I got this from a regular hardware shop. You should also get one from Amazon.
Julian Daniels can you tell me what is the thickness of the front grill and the thickness of the baffleboard? Thanx very much?
Well, I don't know exactly. The thickness of the baffle board was something between 1 and 1,5 cm. The grill is around 3 mm thick, as far as I can remember.
@@JulianDaniels , it could be the baffle 1.8 cm (same as the rest of the cabinet) and the grill cloth 1.5 cm. Another question (sorry for my english) the wood of the BAFFLE is the same of the rest of the cabinet, well birch? Still thank you very very much
Do you mind telling us where you got the cloth from? I am looking to purchasing a rectoverb of the same colour. However my cab is black and need to change it to the same colour as the one you have just done in the video. Cannot find that particular cloth anywhere. Nice job
Thanks so much. Well, I live in Germany. So I ordered the cloth from a german store, called Tube Town. Hope that helps a bit:)
Ok many thanks. I will check them out.
One more thing do you remember the name of the cloth used?
Yes, it's made by Marshall Amplification and it's called Salt 'n Pepper grille cloth, I think.
is there a way I can change from a cloth to a metal grill for my randall?
Attaching a metal grill shouldn't be that difficult. You can look at the ENGL cabs how they did it.
Great video. I now have a future crafting job to look forward to
+mtmrob It makes a lot of fun and doesn't cost that much. You can buy original Marshall cloth, which is identical to those Mesa uses.
Great job!
How did you get the cloth to cover so tightly?
I just pulled it over after fixing it on the other side.
Is that the Marshall salt and pepper grill cloth?
Yes, it is :)
