As a poly graduate, all I can say is that I'm supportive of A-Level students getting into university somewhat easier than diploma holders. This stems from the vagueness of the A-level result slip, which holds less value in the workforce than a diploma.
Consider this: If an employer were to decide on hiring a diploma holder or an A-Level cert holder, s/he would probably pick the diploma holder since the diploma expressly states what industry s/he studied for (business admin, mass comm, aeronautics etc etc). Meanwhile, nothing much can be gathered from a slip that says a student scored As in English, Mathematics, Chemistry etc etc. This is not to say that the A-level applicant has 0% chance of getting the job. Some employers may give them a chance but the fact of the matter is, it's hard to place these applicants into the most suitable department to enhance business/operational efficiency.
Likewise, it's not that A-level students are inadequate for the workforce. Many diploma holders prove inadequate in their intended industries too. It's just the vagueness of the cert.
Thus, I tend to see the A-level cert as a ticket into universities and that it's the natural step forward for JC students to matriculate into universities before going into the workforce.
Meanwhile, for us diploma holders, the goal to get into university may be to earn better pay, and pursue a postgraduate later to earn even more; to pursue another course coz you're bold or hate your former discipline; to actually get a life in university; or because your parents said so.

The definition of “easier” and “value” in your argument is relative and subjective. For jc, Maybe to a certain extent, the entry levels are indeed “easier” to enter a Uni and this is because in my opinion, most higher level studies focuses more on quantitative and empirical data analyses which often requires good to great levels of understanding about mathematics such as calculus and statistics. I would not claim that poly do not provide for these analytical skills, but I would dare argue that the emphasis on such quantitative ability in poly is far less than what a jc student would undergo in the A level curriculum.

Jc students are another breed of people. Some of them are crushing it in uni. While some poly students struggle. It's easy to say that poly students have more practical skills but honestly, I doubt most of us going to poly know exactly what we are learning.

lol jc grads having shared trauma is so right. But you will unfortunately learn that surviving A levels doesn't guarantee surviving future hardships. But it'll probably give us some preparation and warm us up for the beatings that life has in store for us.
Also, it's true that jc kids are not street smart but we don't stay that way forever lol. Once you get to uni, the environment, society and your friends will bring you up to speed. Either way, there's no loss taking either route. The best route is the route you thrive in.

I think the conversation will be more meaningful if unfiltered invite students that are already in their final year of undergrad studies to analyse these questions. As an undergrad that is previously from a jc, I realised in this video, the contestants have made arguments with evidence surrounding misconceptions and stereotypical hearsays which are absolutely poor examples.

A level cert qualifies one for university admissions specifically, so JC students should still have an advantage to enter university. It should never be an equal ground

I went through both JC and Poly route. Previously from YJC (before merger) and graduated with RP of 58.75. Even turned down an offer from NTU. Now in poly with GPA 3.9/4.0.
Back in secondary school, I had a passion for engineering. All my friends and teachers knew I was planning to go to poly. But after O's, my parents wanted me to follow my sis's JC path cos u know "fastest way to uni" or "2 years very fast one". I was hoping to enter Mechanical Eng in uni. I am strong in engineering related subjects (phy, math), but I also had to juggle subjects like Chem, Econs, GP which I absolutely hate. A-level results, I've received a DDD/S for PCME combi.
I was in NS when I received my results. It was embarrasing cos everyone in my bunk did well (got a lot of smart ppl). YJC offered me to retake, but i knew im so done with A's, so I turned them down. Throughout the 2 years, I took my time to think about what I wanted. Surprisingly, I even received an interview offer from NTU MSE. But I rejected them, considering that I am only interested in Mech and Aero engineering.
After NS, I decided to chase my dream course back in sec school. Now currently a Year 2 student in Aeronautical Eng in SP, with cumulative GPA 3.90 with a few Distinctions. The amazing thing is that, I didnt even put in much effort, cos I really enjoy what I'm studying. To the point where I often study extra content that is out of syllabus, just because of my strong interest. I used to dodge or cant answer questions from teachers back in JC (I even broke down in class). But in poly, I ask more questions (constructive ones) than my entire class combined.
Dont follow the social norm, if you have an interest, go and pursue it. What is supposed to be a 2 year path to uni, is taking me 5 years. Till today, i did not regret my decision

Took the same route as you, and currently a final year student in SP Aeronautical Eng'g. Recently applied for both NTU and NUS for this year's admissions. Coincidentally, same RP as well haha. Took my 'A's in 2016, and enrolled into SP in 2019. Good to know to know that you're doing well too! All the best for your final year! (:
