While Bill starts of being rude and derogatory, " did your writers think that up"...later "pin head writers." But as Jon wins over the tech ppl in the room Bill realises he is loosing the audience. For all the ways O'Reilly is a loathsome human being, I have to give him props for allowing Stewart to articulate his perspectives without bulling him over like he did with all his other guests. I mean, given the way his show normally unfolded, it ends up being a compliment that he could permit a guest with an opposing viewpoint to speak in full sentences.
He’s a monster. I don’t believe his interaction with Stewart came from an honest place of exchange of ideas but his ego thinking he could out argue anyone and a ratings ploy. He’s struggled every time I see him outside his own program and was able to cut off anyone speaking at his own pleasure.
It's because he knew Jon wouldn't tolerate it and would have walked out. Jon was probably the only other media person with as much clout back then. It's basically a meeting of equals, except Jon is actually honest with what he thinks.

41:15 The cutest thing is that Jon always draws the line at Colbert. He can take any shit from O'Reilly and make a joke out of it, but once he mentions Stephen he suddenly gets all serious and defends him.
I totally agree. I think O'Reilly just can't get over when Colbert was interviewed in character, and it pissed him off, not only because O'Reilly's one joke about how Colbert pronounces his name didn't go over well, and then Colbert continued to satirize him to his face. When not in character, you can tell Stewart was right. O'Reilly did an interview on the Late Show right after the Pulse shooting, and it was just respectful.
Love how O'reilly complements Stewart for being "pretty intellectual" when in fact Jon has been running rings around him the whole time. O'reilly always thinks he has the upper hand in a debate, but look who's laughing: his own camera guys
no, you can't expect him to have all that money and not enjoy it now that he has worked all these years. I know how you feel. I used to enjoy his presence
What stands out about this to me is how seeing him next to Jon highlights the fact that O'Reilly actually did have charisma of his own. It's hard to see when he's screaming gibberish into his "no-spin zone", but here and in the Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium really shows that he can be funny and interesting, in an albeit condescending and paternalist kind of way. In a way that makes the pairing of the two more dangerous, because it made O'Reilly seem more reasonable than he was. He was a monster under the skin, harassing his female staff and spouting propaganda for Roger Ailes, but you'd never know it here because he seems so personable - even through the insults. What we don't' realize is that Jon is just taking the insults in stride because he doesn't care, he doesn't take O'Reilly's persona seriously, so why should he? It seems funny when the man being insulted can just brush it aside as meaningless comedy, but it shows hints of O'Reilly's true colors.
This kind of debate? THIS is what’s missing in 2024. Americans disagreeing with each other, but still sitting down to a conversation. I left out “civil” because O’Reilly gets some digs in there, but Stewart is a master at taking things in stride, cracking jokes when he’s under pressure, and driving back to a serious point afterward.
I swear I’ve learned more about the current political climate than anything watching these old videos. This is history right here. Feel like students should analyze old videos to see how it correlates to the present day, and compare it to today’s situation.
Listening to all of O'Reilly's producers laugh at Jon's jokes is amazing! Just a reminder that only one of these men has been completely disgraced and cast from society. Only one of these med was fired from his job due to his actions whereas the other left on his own terms because of how much the insanity was dragging him down.
I have no idea how I got here from youtube autoplay but I'm so glad I found this old interview. I remember when it first happened and was uploaded in multiple parts.
I wouldn't say O'Reilly is an idiot, Jon enjoys sparring with him strictly because he is smart and he has reasons for his opinions. Jon likes ripping those reasons and his opinions to shreds, but it's a good time because they listen to each other and keep it civil. It's like Jon's argument with Christopher Hitchens, it didn't sound like an argument because they know how to listen and have an opinion at the same time. I can definitely say that O'Reilly isn't nearly as smart as Jon or Hitchens... but he's probably smarter than most.
On a side note, you should look up the interview Jon Stewart had with Christopher Hitchens. It's the only time I've ever seen Hitchens come close to losing an argument over anything, I didn't realize just how smart Jon was until I saw that. I think Hitchens is likely smarter, but everyone else he's miles ahead. Hitchens supported the Iraq war because of humanitarian reasons, and so the whole discussion was mostly Hitchens conceding that the way it was carried out was flawed and probably ultimately disastrous for all parties, but his point was that you can't see genocide and look the other way. Both valid mutually inclusive points over an opposite opinion.
They seem very polite but they’re both being so passive aggressive 😂 also what really pissed me off was bill trying to make it seem like he’s a regular guy when he most definitely lives in a mansion. He acts like he’s not also an college educated elitists.
Jon: "But you're a harvard educated media elite" Bill: "...they won't even let me on their campus, so, that says something" Yeah it does, but not what you think
I really love it when O'Reilly calls Stewart an elitist for knowing of a well known actor (or at least recognizable, all you'd have to do is the voice and most people would know who you mean) and then promptly brags about having somebody else mow his lawn.
I love whenever John brings up Fox, Bill just simply tells him "we aren't talking about Fox". Then he immediately blasts Johns show in some asinine way. What a horrible person
@@damionverine7159 I am Nate from Georgia and I miss the art and skill of a debate between political rivals who are willing to allow a rebuttal to be heard and then Respectfully make a counter point with examples or evidence. And so on. But O'Reilly and Stewart were great in the day. Hell, it is entertaining. I debated in high school and was taught the proper etiquette of debate and I recall my teacher repeatedly said 'intellect before emotions, but think quickly without reaction.' I'm 46 now and I don't recall everything, but debate is an intellectual art form with a long history. However, what I learned and loved in high school in 1993, as a 17 year old has been rapidly becoming obsolete by my standards over the years into the Jerry Springer show, frankly. It is embarrassing. I used to watch CSpan for practice. Because, when in session, our Congress and Senate showed up to work on bills and actually having read them and then debate the proposed legislation. This can be done quickly at times and slower on the heavier issues. But, in 93 government officials would be present. I could pay attention to other colleagues responses and expressions at points, ya know. But our elected officials in both Parties. House and Senate don't even show up. Those chambers are not even half full and most are in their phones. Being from Georgia we have a district that elected the MTG overwhelming twice now. But if she has an agenda or conspiracy to flat out lies in line with her extremist base. She is an agitator and a disruption to every proceeding with her absurdity. She is from my state and I checked her out. Researching and checking facts about her was difficult because she was a southern daughter of a Contractor. She did graduate college. She has worked for daddy. She married into another well off family and that's it. She moved to another district in the racist oasis of North West Georgia below Chattanooga. Fuck I had to vote in a Senate Runoff between the incumbent and first black Georgian Senator with mentors like John Lewis and was involved in the Civil Rights Movement for years. Became the Pastor of the same church as MLK JR. His reputation was positive statewide and especially in Atlanta activism for local issues. Overly qualified and experienced in a Runoff against Herschel Walker. Herschel was a Trump loyalist for the simple reason that Trump payed him a record breaking contract to play football for the USFL team owned by Trump. Herschel was expected to be Trump's Star running back one more time. Trump went to Texas got him away from his chicken farm and he began the campaign for Senator. It was a suspect choice for most Georgia Republicans because Herschel Walker was registered voter in Texas for decades
It's funny how O'Reilly suggests people don't think his show is news (he says it's obvious that it's opinion) but suggests people don't know the Daily Show is comedy, when their respective channels are called Fox News and Comedy Central

What breaks my heart until today is that the fact there's no accountability or anyone going to prison, this is going to be repeated time and time again.
He did say he would never trust Bush again if Iraq didn’t go well uh well we definitely shouldn’t have gone in Bill. Glad you agree with that
And yet what have we learned? If the Republican Party decides to do it again with a different country nothing will be different. There will be lies, talking heads repeating the lies and too many lives will be lost on both sides.
15:04 "That's like saying someone watches your show and doesn't know its a comedy show."
Jon's show was on "COMEDY central."
Bill's show was on "Fox NEWS"
So yeah I do see the difference there.
America should be grateful there are people like Jon.
This is historic. Glad it's still on RUclips. Thank you for sharing.
Jon is always respectful, he shows how witty and quick minded he is and does not need to be rude. While Bill starts of being rude and derogatory, " did your writers think that up"...later "pin head writers." But as Jon wins over the tech ppl in the room Bill realises he is loosing the audience. The "debate in the air-conditioned auditorium" is very similar. Why does Bill always call Jon "Stewart" never Jon? Odd in today's world.
Prof_Kaos He always calls him "Stewart" to be diminutive like he's in gym class.
yeah bill insults a lot for no reason. it's shameful.
@@boomerfunnyjimgaffigan4998 i think its Bill trying to get shots back at Jon for all the times he was a target on daily show. Hes trying so hard to upset and pin Jon, but Jon is just tooo fuckin good at the game Bill cant land a single shot
They were frenemies and respected each others skills. 😊
@@scotta4564I think it’s being misinterpreted a little. Bill seems like an ass in general, but I think all their interactions seemed more like 2 people bantering like friends would rather than out of spite. Given the amount of times they each appeared on the others show I don’t think bill is trying to be rude here, just play up the character Jon makes of him on his show and dish back some.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx you gotta give him credit for allowing a fair fight. Who knows, maybe deep down ge agrees lol
@@globaladdict Hysterical! Dominion Lawsuit anyone? You know that its likely that Bill agreed with a lot of what Jon thought but you know it's not red or blue, its green. Its not like their business model ever changed over there. But you couldn't do that to Jon because he's quicker, nicer, and absolutely does not give a shit what O'Reilly says, because hes funnier by a mile.
Fantastic example of him being a white male its privilege
Can’t believe O’Reilly willingly got skewered by Stewart this many times
It's truly in the eye of the beholder, because I see Stewart as an inarticulate buffoon with silly ideas about how politics should work.
They apparently had a friendly relationship.
He didn't have a choice he was interllectually out of his depth with the interllect of John Stewart
@@peterrobbins2862
No way. He was just willing to concede a point. Don't mistake the two. This was a great conversation.
Yeah it felt like a mutual appreciation back and forth oddly enough. Just jabbing back and forth @@jakublizon6375
am I listening to this in 2010 or 2024? might as well be the same thing. Shows how far we have come. Also its an absolute attrocity to society these guys haven't done a podcast together.
They feed off eachother so well. So civil compared to now.
M
Leave me alone
Love how O'reilly complements Stewart for being "pretty intellectual" when in fact Jon has been running rings around him the whole time. O'reilly always thinks he has the upper hand in a debate, but look who's laughing: his own camera guys
So true
Dang Jon Stewart talked half the amount and still destroyed O'Reilly.
I love when guys like O'Reilly realize they're outclassed, they act like indignant children and try to attack people's character.
Moment of silence for the O'Reilly staff that were for sure fired for laughing lmao
we know thats not true cus u can hear the same laughs years later
I absolutely adore these videos. I miss Jon's clarity of thought and the way he delivers his message.
He is wonderful 👍
And now I miss Trevor
Heeeeeee's BACK! STEWART ON MONDAYS! TDS for the win!
This country needs you Jon. Come back!
preach
no, you can't expect him to have all that money and not enjoy it now that he has worked all these years. I know how you feel. I used to enjoy his presence
He is back
The 🐐
Your wish has been granted! Heeeeee's BACK! Mondays on TDS
Bill: "Here's what you're doing. You're casting aspersions."
John (smiling and looking into the distance): "Yes, yes I believe I am."
Comedy gold!
22:02 "If he's a Socialist, he's dyslexic." MIC DROP!!!!🤣😂🤣😂🤣👏👏👏👏👏 Jon Stewart, the rhetorical ninja!!!
“Now I’m a spider.”
“Do you want some crayons?!”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love these two together
Would love to grab a drink with these two!
I just love both of them. two real, intelligent news people
Ádám Arany o’reilly is a dirty old perv though
he didn't rape anyone
ikr
This is just as much fun today as it was when originally broadcast. That it showed up in my suggestions was pure genius.
I swear I’ve learned more about the current political climate than anything watching these old videos. This is history right here. Feel like students should analyze old videos to see how it correlates to the present day, and compare it to today’s situation.
I just love Jon Stewart and I have just started watching his old clips.
Hey fellow indian there, I am doing the same.
@@harpreetsingh-cm8hb Hellow from 2021!!
I think Jon Stewart is one of the few people the O'Reilly has respect for.
Thanks for uploading the interview, Jon Stewart again showing a masterclass of integrity in the face of absolute absurdity.
I have no idea how I got here from youtube autoplay but I'm so glad I found this old interview. I remember when it first happened and was uploaded in multiple parts.
It's because Jon is back on TDS Mondays!
Omg just kiss already
Yes.
loveandlucky3 Jon Stewart is too powerful, Bill O'Reilly only targets people who he can abuse.
Otherwise O'Reilly would have groped him already..
I phone 7 plus
😭🤣
the producer laughing in the background is great
I love how Jon always kicks the shit out of O'Reilly. However, he has broken a rule time and again, never argue with an idiot.
Lincoln, yes "that" Lincoln said,"never get in a pissing contest with a skunk, he likes it and you won't".O'Reilly fits the skunk persona exactly.
You should go kick the shit out of O'Reilly.
It's like teaching a pig to sing. I wastes your time and it make the pig mad.
The "I'm just asking a question here" that Jon describes for Neil Cavuto is exactly what our dear departed Tucker was famous for.
there will never be another Jon Stewart.. what a guy
Gotta love a guy who says "I'm very uncomfortable" with a big ol' smile on his face.
They seem very polite but they’re both being so passive aggressive 😂 also what really pissed me off was bill trying to make it seem like he’s a regular guy when he most definitely lives in a mansion. He acts like he’s not also an college educated elitists.
College education doesn’t equal elitism. Interesting how insane some people are
Jon: "But you're a harvard educated media elite"
Bill: "...they won't even let me on their campus, so, that says something"
Yeah it does, but not what you think
These two have shockingly good chemistry. I’m actually blown away by these two together.
Listening to to producers laugh in the background kills me 😂
Really? Because it gives me life.
What a horrible person
good point i didn't think about it that way
honestly jon's laugh is beautiful.
the way Jon Stewart talks is absolutely crazy. his humour, wit and knowledge completely takes over the debate. +69000 aura
All in all just an incredible display. This has to be the single best O'Reilly episode ever.
O'Reily's own crew is laughing at him with Jon
I like that this was posted the day after the election. Someone was going through their old videos trying to make themselves feel better.
Joe Alias Haha! I don't remember, but you're probably right.
I think they actually like each other, they do great chemistry
They do. Their disagreements aren't malicious.
I would be surprised if Stewart actually likes O'Reilly. But he probably respects him.
When a comedian is more reliable than the "news."
It's funny how O'Reilly suggests people don't think his show is news (he says it's obvious that it's opinion) but suggests people don't know the Daily Show is comedy, when their respective channels are called Fox News and Comedy Central
Two of the biggest news comedians in one place!
" 'Out of touch with the folks?!' You live in a CASTLE!"
Honestly very refreshing debate. Some humor, some empathizing (as much as possible.) Wish we had more like this today
I love how Stewart made this thing into an entire comedy bit
You just gotta love how Jon kept his composure throughout the whole thing. Bill raised his voice MUPLTIPLE times to make a point and Jon kept with thw same tone and seriousness and never put him down for his opinions while moving the conversation along constantly
I love that there is a camera crew guy who can't stop laughing at all of Jon's jokes and hilarity.
Please jon, come back. your country needs you.
Say what you want about either of them, but we actually had two people with very opposing views talking and listening to one another.. and being pretty respectful. We could at least listen and hear both sides. it wasn’t just people yelling at each other.. with that said. I really miss Jon Stewart
This was an intellectual battle between two seething enemies. Beautifully well done exchange of an exercise of civility. ❤😂
Man these two have such great banter back and forth.
I may be stoned Bill O'Reilly but I'm not a slacker!
I will never stop admiring how these two get along. It takes so much inner strength and tolerance. When I am in a confrontation with someone thats just so much off track, i d be on their throat before they start the intro music.
I feel that
Gosh.
Reminds me that Bill O'Reilly truly almost never had a second thought.
You can tell that Bill wants to hate Jon and talk down to him, but you can just tell he can't help but like him to some degree. It's weird and super interesting.
Edit: annnnnd Jon realizes that Bill likes him. I'm so glad he brought it up in the discussion. I was NOT expecting that!
If my memory serves me, it was confirmed by John that they are friends, so that's why the discussions are light hearted for the most part. Wich is a no brainer since they both used to dinner together before Bill got wacked out of Fox News.
Truly one of the greatest TV interviews of all time.
16:59 “And to make some money” 😂🤣 Jon Stewart is the king.

he should run for president then, clearly that is not a disqualifier
Perhaps this is becoming a qualification along with sexual assault. Gosh it's getting more and more difficult to become a president these days.
an old old body
No, Bill is like an American Baghdad Bob.
I wish these two would do a show together. It's very entertaining and informative.
I love this so much. I wish we could go back to these times when you could have actually reasonable dialogue.
I like how O'Reilly proved Jon's point about Ron Paul, Acting as if hes never heard of him...
wow, this is so apt right now.... be a good time for this interview to get spread around.....
Love how the you can hear the fox worker laughing in the the background
Jon Stewart is the kind of person we need as president. A person with real morals, compassion and isn’t afraid to stand up for what he believes he’s right.
Unfortunately people like Jon Steward are too wise to run for any political office. The greatest flaw of politics is that people who should be leaders are usually people who don't want power.
One of these guys is back on TV. The other was fired for sexual misconduct. And sued, I believe?
So... yeah. Welcome back, Jon, it's good to see you again. Thanks for ushering us into the end times lol.
