Why does being satire make it effective? Maybe in the UK, but in the US this is received by many as snide and unfair, especially younger Americans. Satire is just calumny wrapped in plausible deniability, with a side of smugness. Serious charges require evidence, not a clever turn of phrase, and deserve a jury not bored without a laugh track. If you disagree, you obviously missed my satire. Just kidding...maybe.

Wouldn't a fake newsman deliver fake news? John tells factual stories that I didn't know about. That's what a newsman does.. It's like saying a teacher that also tells jokes is a fake teacher.
mostmelon Jon initially DOES give you correct and factual information. The reason he portrays it as a fake news show (quite fairly to boot) is because AFTER that he injects both humor into the situation and usually his opinion on the subject at hand unabashedly. IN THEORY, a journalist should never make light of a serious news event, and most certainly should refrain from EVER injecting their personal opinion into the matter, thus ruining objectivity. The irony is with networks like MSNBC, CNN, and the worst offender of all FOX NEWS that happens all the time and they portend to be giving the viewer unbiased news. Stewart at least gives you the unbiased news first with the mutual understanding with his audience that his opinions will follow. So IN THEORY yes, Stewart is a pseudo newscaster delivering an intentionally biased news show. But in PRACTICE due to the failings of the mainstream media and the ethics guiding Stewart and his writers, his "fake news" is one of the most trustworthy places to find the truth in the mainstream to date. ...kind of depressing, yes?
TymeTwyster Last I mostly disagree. Jon is biased and untrustworthy and hides under the mask of comedy. He omits parts of real news stories to make Democrats look good and Republicans look evil. Jon is dishonest in that way and definitely not credible. FOX does make mention that their prime time shows are Opinion shows. We know where their Opinion lean, however at least the have the decency to bring on Democrats on every show everyday to share their opinion.
Taaza 2 It always seemed more like they did it to blast them with hostility, like to always make them seem like a minority with like half a dozen other people barking over them. When Jon invites a Republican, he's usually very civil with them.
Taaza 2 If the news media was doing their jobs properly, I'd watch it more often. Now I just get my news from Jon and from source online where at least I could do my own research and fact check rather than hearing a one sided story. You said "Jon is biased and untrustworthy..." sure that's your opinion and you have the right to it. "He omits parts of real news stories to make Democrats look good and Republicans look evil." Oh really...? Do you have reliable sources to support your statement? If you don't have it, then it's just another opinion of yours. I've seen Jon bash Democrats before on the show as well and not just politician but also big corporations anything that they are doing that is news worthy is brought out unfiltered (with a few bleeps of colorful words) followed by his opinion. For a fake news show, he/his team's facts cross checking skills is a hell lot more accurate then most major news media who has more staff and a bigger budget to work with. When it comes to news worthy subjects... He and his small team proved over the years that they did a better job (with limited resources and staff members) than all the other major news media combined.
He left to pay sol attention on 9/11 first responders who were in need of support from the country they served on that day and are being denied healthcare and other supportive entities. He spoke in congress and got them what they needed and had to go back to fight to continue the support instead of letting the help expire. These 9/11 first responders are dying bc they were the first responders where toxic fumes, smoke, dust particles of left over human remains and exploded towers particulates. I stand for whatever Jon decides is the best use of his time. Integrity personified
ppl discussing politics below...bleh. Jon Stewart is the only person i'd ever watch from american tv. rolling news channels everywhere are a joke. if you want to really find out about the ludicrous decisions, taken in your name, by those in power, you have to turn to the satirists. and Stewart is one of the best. satire keeps you honest. it's no surprise that the among first ppl to suffer in any dictatorship are the satirists and comedians. and for all you fellow brits, he's as good as Peter Cook ever was.
***** 1. It's not that Stewart gives the news a liberal bias. Reality itself has a liberal bias. If you want conservative bias, you need less reality and more fantasy. 2. Stewart fact-checks his news from more sources than your so-called news. And that's both hilarious and more than a little worrying.
***** I watch Jon because I don't have the time to spend watching all the BS. I leave it to Jon and his crew to do that, and point out the BS that's going on.

I dont know Trevor Noah's story. Some times he get a good rant going and he seems quite clever. But John Stewart had a nack for going for what was less obvious. I find Noah to be a little obvious some of the time. What Stewart did was on another level. Then again, he had worked for quite a few years.
I feel like Trevor is a bit too afraid to be as biting and direct as Jon was when he was the host; Trevor isn't bad, it's just that he's too meek compared to Jon
Jon Stewart is an American treasure! What will we do without him? I hope he takes some well deserved time off and then come back with a new phase of his brilliant career.
Jon Stewart 2020.. If we make it. Please Jon, save us. I know you're are a comedian first, but your voice, wit, intellect and wonderful insight is something this country needs.
John Stewart has a fair number of great qualities. My favorite of these is that he's educated far beyond the average citizen that votes for people like George W. Bush.
THING3 I attended a George Wallace rally in 1968. Now that was a hitler rally! The Republican party sold their soul to the hitler type mentality. Look at Prescott Bush, George W's grandfather. He actually was a Nazi sympathizer and built all the support structures for the death camps in Nazi-land. So educate yourself by finding an intelligent history professor and SHUT THE HELL UP UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
@ D McK Surely you know, the winner of the war, writes the history books. Even a COD game quoted it. You assume the winners of the war would accurately portray history without defaming the losers? I've done my own research on Hitler, and he was nothing like what westerners portray him as. But you would rather live in a dream world. I understand. It's easier to just believe what the "man" tells you, rather than doing that whole "research" thing. In the age of information, you would think to take it upon yourself to educate yourself. But, I digress.
loveandlucky3 ;-) I got equally good looks albeit on a black template not white, not that rich but at the exact point where he was circa 1994 when he couldn't hold down a job, I'm deep politically and comically... what more could a pretty girl like you ask for I can't give?
Nah -- Bush was legit funny. The other guy has an entirely different thing going on: you can't mention their name, no matter what context, without bringing a sh*tstorm of nasty from one side or the other. It's basically how they built their political brand. The thing that p*sses me off is that the media keeps going for it, because it boosts their ratings at everyone else's expense. Stewart knew the right time to jump ship.
I love Jon Stewart. He is a great American and a great American asset. His advocacy for our 9/11 heroes, fighting for the medical treatment of health problems of first respondents is an example for us all of what we should all do. His comedy is funny but has a message with profound truths about our politics, exposing the hypocrisy of politicians. .The Daily Show was great before and after him, but I am very happy he returned to hosting it. Welcome back Jon.
the thing that impressed me about john stewart was he had a broad and diverse breadth of world knowledge and by and large, he got his fact right. we never got eposodes of bill oriley calling john on bad facts.
Grandpa the Grey i am seriously having nightmares about that and how to laugh at all this tragedy. last night i dreamed that i kissed jon on the cheek & said goodbye & was brokenhearted!
Angus the cat His "ACT" was being an idiot. John Stewart is a well educated, articulate man in real life and The Daily Show's news reports were thoroughly investigated. Obviously, you're unable to recognize an "ACT' when you see one. Do you believe WWE Wrestling is real also?
His active lobbying of congress on behalf of the 9-11 first responders, and especially his 2019 appearance before those senators who made the time to listen to Stewart's impassioned plea to make medical coverage permanent for those brave men and women, speaks to his genuine humanity. He is not just a nice guy, he is an amazing example of the kind of person we should all emulate. Our lives, our country, and our world would be vastly improved.
We went to the Rally for Sanity with a couple of fellow teachers. He is a teacher of our ilk. Like Colombo, he looks for what is out of place, and then lands on it. "Didn't you see this? It doesn't belong! Why is it here? You are going to allow it? Why? Why? Why?" What a fantastic day in DC. Better that rally than the soundbites from visiting our elected officials. We met bunches of fed up honest people with higher expectations of their representatives in DC than those folks had of themselves. Thanks, JS and SC and all the great minds and heart and soul who came out of The Daily Show.
I totally miss his reports on the daily news! His honesty is unmatched! And now I hear his apple program has ended, Americas is the worst for our loss.
John Stewart is a bit like Dumbledore: An ideal choice for minister of magic, but likes his job too much to consider it. And yes, i know Dummbledore didn't take it because he doesen't trust himself with power (spoiler) but it's the concept that matches.
I don't care if he's not the most handsome, or the funniest, I care that he cares so much and has the courage to speak well researched truth to power about important current events. Keep going Jon! Keep making those who are exercising power, over others, to the other's detriment, feel uncomfortable enough that it will bring about change.

You don't know what you're talking about.Nobody scared him,he was just tired. Also,he's smarter than literally anybody on tv.Even smarter than Colbert or Maher.
Jon Stewart is a legend, A LEGEND!!
If you have a negative IQ.
That's where I came to see......He's exactly where he ought to be!
oh man.... i miss him so much : (.. he is easily my best one side friendship lol
:D :D mine too
Not only that, but he jump started 2 other shows:
The Colbert Report
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
He'slike a male, White, Jewish Oprah!
Blank space videos
Andrew Yates
And The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
AND (again) Full Frontal with Samantha Bee - the best of the lot!
Colbert and John Oliver are fake news. They are SJW ideologues
its not fake news... its satire. huge difference and why it worked so well.
Cool input
If HE'S the one calling it "Fake News" I think we can allow it.
This is who they are minus a few.
He's a "fake newsman", not a "fake news" man.
Jon Stewart is one of the most honest people on TV.
I miss your guidance and spirit during these hard times. We need you John.
Jon Stewart: Fake Newsman delivering real news.
Fox News: Real Newsmen delivering fake news.
CNN News: Real Newsmen delivering fake news
MSNBC News: Real Newsmen delivering fake news
BBC News: Real Newsmen delivering fake news
Don't fool yourself into thinking that it's only the news channels you don't like that are doing this
@@wmtrader I would strongly advise you to remove the BBC from your list. It makes you look stupid and/or ill informed.
@@konradyearwood5845 You need to do more research on the BBC.
@@wmtrader with all due respect, no I don't.

Jon Stewart should get a nobel prize for calling out the bullshitters.
And some kind of prize for his "Go fuck yourself" performance.
You can tell this is Bloomberg! They didn't talk about how he help NY first responders, get their benefits from the city and congress! He kicked their asses !!!!
yes, that was a shocking omission
theatheistfundamenta
He’s a great American! Witty intellectual, devoid of hypocrisy. We need his voice NOW, more than ever!
The GOAT. I feel privileged that I was awake and watching during the Jon Stewart years.
He is the check and balance ppl wanted in the media
Who gives a toss abt mediating the media, umm, shouldn't it be the bolloticians you need to reign in? oaft.

I miss John Stewart! He was the whole reason I began paying attention to politics and registered to vote. Thank you so much for just being you! I love that he snagged Tucker Carlson, one of my favorite shows
I hope Jon runs for president when he gets older. We can use a smart left wing guy like him. America needs Jon Steward! He will be missed. I will give Bernie my vote for the next 8 years.
Johnsen1972 I was totally thinking the same thing towards the end of this piece! I like Bernie. He's consistent I'll give him that but I'm not an American so it doesn't matter. But Jon? There's a guy who knows his stuff... for real! Seems like the most logical step for him is president but I don't think he ever will. He'd rather keep 'em honest!
Achilleskneel Clearly by today's standards you don't have to know how to run anything correctly to run the country. lol
big respect for jon stewart from Egypt , we love you man , keep up great work.
I find Jon Stewart to be one of the smartest funniest people we've ever had come out of this country.
Who holds the media accountable for their reporting? Jon and Stephen... the 5th branch of government.
*underrated comment.
@N Satheesan you’re completely dumb to compare Stephen Colbert now to when he was hosting the Colbert Report and I say that because of the way you stated your comment. He sucks now because he sold out for a bigger pay cheque, but when he was doing the Colbert Report he was one of the best comedian reporters and 2nd only to Jon.
@@jasonthompson318 have you SEEN Colbert's Late Show?
I don't know if this was broadcast on TV, but it's really good of Bloomberg to stick the whole thing up here for us to watch.
im 15 and just started watching the daily show and i wish i had herd about it earlier, my family isnt very political, now i can be aware of whats going on in the word without having to listen to idiots, Jon is just perfect and Ever since I've watched his first show I havent missed a episode(can thank my DVR for that)
I seriously miss him. the daily show was an incredible show with him at the helm and I genuinely miss his take on this insane world :)
I miss u Jon. What are u doing now
The hardest part is, initiating the conversation. Hello🤠
Taaza 2
It always seemed more like they did it to blast them with hostility, like to always make them seem like a minority with like half a dozen other people barking over them.
Taaza 2 You're clearly an idiot and should stop posting things to make yourself look more stupid.
Where’s Jon Stewart when we need him the most???
He left to pay sol attention on 9/11 first responders who were in need of support from the country they served on that day and are being denied healthcare and other supportive entities. He spoke in congress and got them what they needed and had to go back to fight to continue the support instead of letting the help expire. These 9/11 first responders are dying bc they were the first responders where toxic fumes, smoke, dust particles of left over human remains and exploded towers particulates. I stand for whatever Jon decides is the best use of his time. Integrity personified
Sole*
He's an important voice in our culture!!!
Jon come back to us...in one form or another. 'Merica needs your voice!
On HBO in 2017 ;). Animated satire show
ppl discussing politics below...bleh.
Mr. R 7
THIS IS A GUY WHO LITERALLY NEVER GAVE UP. Jesus christ so many cancellations and finally the world converged where it should have and nothing could beat this. Rest as we know is history.
I dont know Trevor Noah's story. Some times he get a good rant going and he seems quite clever. But John Stewart had a nack for going for what was less obvious. I find Noah to be a little obvious some of the time.
What Stewart did was on another level. Then again, he had worked for quite a few years.
Sokratis Dalakas read Trevor Noah’s book. It has everything and one of the most fun reads. You will respect him so much more. He’s an amazing person
try watching his behing the scenes stuff. it is much more fun
I feel like Trevor is a bit too afraid to be as biting and direct as Jon was when he was the host; Trevor isn't bad, it's just that he's too meek compared to Jon
The closest analogy is probably John Oliver, except Jon Stewart could actually get angry and I don't think I have ever seen John Oliver do that.
Noah is a jerk and a liar ... Battlefield dabacel... More you dont need to know...
He NEEDS to make a return!!! The True voice of the people....we NEED him in these dark times! those were the days tho... Stewart, Colbert and Carrell
love him or hate him, you gotta respect the man. I ran into him in the 90's by the comedy cellar. Good man.
John Stewart was the most Honest Media you could find.
even if you don't share his political views: you've gotta admit that he's one of the best comedians of all times.
The Legendary Jon Stewart! Welcome back to Comedy Central and The Daily Show
Amen, Amen, Amen🎉🎉🎉
As a Canadian Jon Stewart is my trusted American news source!
Jon Stewart
One of my favorite show hosts/ comedians ever...
Bush.
Educated really means indoctrinated. The people who like his show are the one's that would have voted for Hitler.
THING3 then, what are you? Willfully ignorant and naive?
***** How about cowardly shooting children in the back? Nazis are coward psychopaths who are totally useless in a functional society.
We need more John Stewarts in this world.
It’s Jon.
I would marry this man tomorrow. No questions asked.
loveandlucky3 umm... I happen to be his black cousin....
Marcus Blaze Very smooth, Marcus.
loveandlucky3 hey you can't fault a bloke for trying when you're so fine
Marcus Blaze Haha, cute!

;-) I got equally good looks albeit on a black template not white, not that rich but at the exact point where he was circa 1994 when he couldn't hold down a job, I'm deep politically and comically... what more could a pretty girl like you ask for I can't give?
Wish he still had his show. We really need him now more than ever. Come back Jon!!!
I miss Jon Stewart. We need Jon Stewart. The country got dumber when he left the airwaves.
JONNNNN!!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU??????????
He's back, but only on Mondays!
I love the ''No... no, i'm not gonna be your monkey'' It gets me every time. (17:46)
14:39 "He had Bush. You could not ask anything better for him." That was true until Trump became the president.
Still and always miss him! He was (is) the greatest!
You just know someone's smart when Ricky Gervais says so
I love Jon Stewart.
"he's one of the people who keeps you honest"
Brian Williams
He is a true American. A true American stand for human right, and fear not from the truth
Man I miss Jon and his Daily Show !! Wish he'd come back !
It’s coming!
@@gregmoessner3104 Oh so i hear !!!
Stewart was the best!! Never missed a show!
I miss John Stewart, he was the best.
He's not a fake news man! He portrays the real news with a satirical and witty viewpoint. He also does have an opinion, which I think he did not hide
Best quote ever: Brian Williams ~ "I consider him a branch of g'ment"
Where is John Stewart when we need him most!
I am corrected it is Jon not John. Haha.
EXCELLENT PRODUCTION! Thank you.
welcome back, Jon!
Guess who's back? The King is back! Sadly, only on Mondays.
the thing that impressed me about john stewart was he had a broad and diverse breadth of world knowledge and by and large, he got his fact right. we never got eposodes of bill oriley calling john on bad facts.
That was a pleasure to watch.
"He's one of the people who'll keep you honest."
Said by Brian Williams in the first minute.
It's pretty sad when the ONLY RELIABLE NEWS SOURCE in main stream media comes from the COMEDY CHANNEL. Where will we hear the TRUTH after Jon leaves?
Grandpa the Grey i am seriously having nightmares about that and how to laugh at all this tragedy. last night i dreamed that i kissed jon on the cheek & said goodbye & was brokenhearted!
you are biased, and that is ironic..
Trevor Noah?
+Grandpa the Grey reliable news source? LMAO he is an idiot
Angus the cat
His "ACT" was being an idiot. John Stewart is a well educated, articulate man in real life and The Daily Show's news reports were thoroughly investigated. Obviously, you're unable to recognize an "ACT' when you see one. Do you believe WWE Wrestling is real also?
Theres just something about him that tells ya hes just a NICE guy
His active lobbying of congress on behalf of the 9-11 first responders, and especially his 2019 appearance before those senators who made the time to listen to Stewart's impassioned plea to make medical coverage permanent for those brave men and women, speaks to his genuine humanity. He is not just a nice guy, he is an amazing example of the kind of person we should all emulate. Our lives, our country, and our world would be vastly improved.
Thank you, Jon's mom, for the product.
17:32 Brian Williams "so there I was, helping John Stewart come up with jokes...."
DallasCowboyFan95 I like when he said Stewart keeps him honest lol
DallasCowboyFan95 very good *applause*
DallasCowboyFan95 Hahaha
I totally miss his reports on the daily news! His honesty is unmatched! And now I hear his apple program has ended, Americas is the worst for our loss.
"You were not elected."!!!!!
Miss Jon Stewart!
Welcome Back, Jon!
John Stewart is a bit like Dumbledore: An ideal choice for minister of magic, but likes his job too much to consider it.
And yes, i know Dummbledore didn't take it because he doesen't trust himself with power (spoiler) but it's the concept that matches.
Not full of himself.....that's what I love about Jon Stewart. I hope he is enjoying his Retirement & family
Jon Stewart, Stephen colbert, John Oliver? the greats
I don't care if he's not the most handsome, or the funniest, I care that he cares so much and has the courage to speak well researched truth to power about important current events. Keep going Jon! Keep making those who are exercising power, over others, to the other's detriment, feel uncomfortable enough that it will bring about change.
Jon Stewart,
Thank you.
