Hit the nail on the head with the bowl of fruit getting elected bit. For whatever reason, not being a politician or having experience makes you think infinitely more qualified
This interview brings back the old days before interviews became systematic popularized nonsense. The interview is kind of cereal compared to most CNN FOX MSNBC interviews.
Minute 11:00 to 12:00 is so very prescient about the state of the country. Seems plain to see that our representatives have intentionally led us to where we presently are and either weren't listening or were refusing to do so, interested more in careerism than in governance. "Fed up" is quite an understatement. I miss wide-ranging political satire, divorced from partisan politics. Within the liberal perspective, it's much easier to criticize everything; within conservative circles, critique is directed outward and self-critique is even more dangerous than it is within identity politics and cancel culture. Without some filtering force to keep politicians honest, each party is free to spin and to censor, keeping people less informed, never knowing what's true or real. Our turn towards relying on grievance and personality politics has gutted populism and democracy, along with pluralism and rationality, disempowering the electorate, keeping it divided and dumb. Platforms used to take up the slack, but now even they are censoring conservative voices, something that's about as far from being liberal as one can get. Don't know if that says more about us or our leaders, as it is us who keep tuning in, us who keeps playing their games. We're in desperate need of impartial, national voices who value what satire does for people. Trevor Noah, Amber Ruffin and Samantha Bee are all alone out there, and even they are getting more entrenched in their liberal bias. Don't know when the liberal media and democratic leaders are going to learn that grievance only prevents governance from happening; that censorship impedes progress and harms one's own credibility more than political opponents, continually empowering them; that inviting diverse points of view strengthens us all, rather than jeopardizes the social fabric or the social contract; that treating conservative viewpoints seriously (more seriously than they treat them themselves) makes liberal viewpoints more credible, not only for other liberals, but for conservatives, as well; liberal voices cannot know if they're on the right path unless conservative voices offer valid counterpoints; without them, we suffer, without us, they do. It is together where common ground and progress is created. Satire is the greatest vehicle, the greatest impetus, that allows these things to happen-- the calling out of people's bullcrap without completely alienating them, telling them their crap isn't working. Ridicule only takes us so far, increasing resentment, so compacts and change are even harder to achieve. Could be that that's the whole idea, so careers besides those in politics are retained. Problem is, liberals are becoming the new conservatives and conservatives are now where liberal thinking is occurring. All to the good, internally, but moves the country further right, away from its liberal sensibility and pluralistic foundations. Satire centers all that, moves us in more progressive and rational directions.
