I never understood the description they and Jon Stewart himself, would give The Daily Show. Referring to it as being "fake news". There was nothing fake about it. He wasn't making things up. He was showing actual footage by politicians and then pointing out the absurd. Pointing out the hypocrisy. It was (is) news with humor. That's not fake. If anything, his version of news is far more legit and authentic than what you often get on main stream news outlets.

I think he looked at journalism as something that was as important and serious as medial practice. So he was putting a medical disclaimer on the bottle. It's information as civic action. But, there's a moral component. He highlights the fact that it's not entirely objective. It's truth with antibiotics. So, not really journalism or history. More like medicine. Or, really good chicken soup.

    • @jeremybr2020

You guys might all be too young to remember, or ever have known, but this show was lampooning. That's why it's called fake news. Today. The meaning of fake news means something else, but the original purpose of The daily show was to be something like the Saturday night live new sketches from the '70s which were also frequently based on real headlines. And then sort of take it into hyperspace. Which it did. And we love Jon and The daily show

Glad you enjoyed your time here! I don't know how much it's portrayed in media around the world, but I think the best part of the US is the land itself, especially in the west. I know it's tough to get to because of the size and lack of public transit, but I always recommend tourists visit our best national parks / forests if possible (like Yellowstone, Glacier NP, the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rainier, etc.).
A lot of tourists choose to visit the big cities like NYC/LA/Washington DC, which isn't necessarily a bad idea, but I think sometimes they are disappointed because they aren't like they appear on TV and in movies (in reality, some cities are much more dirty/dangerous than anticipated). But one of the things we do well here (again, at least in the western states) is land conservation -- and the land really is spectacular!

Sucks I have to keep voting for the lesser of two evils. Completely sucks. We need multiple legitimate parties to stop this juvenile division in the country! It’s dumbing down our country. The comments here on RUclips are becoming dumber and more juvenile against each other every day. It’s embarrassing how adults cry like children in these comments. God help this country if we don’t start coming together. For the life of me I don’t know how people live their lives hating each other?? How do have any friends and family left to talk to? The token criticism of the left makes him even more insidious. The average daily show viewer (young and impressionable) think they're receiving some sort of balanced perspective on world politics, when they're really just getting partisan shilling. God loves you and takes care of you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this great universe and has complete control over it. And the greatest loss that a person loses in this life is that he lives while he does not know God who created him, knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. The great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and then you have the choice to believe in it or not. I advise you on this now before you do not have time to do that.

This is the version of Stewart we need. He's become part of the problem he once shined a light on.

stewart is obviously more liberal, but even in today's divided age where we're more polarized than ever, in Stewart's return to the daily show a few days ago, it's evident that he picks on his own side as much as he picks on the other.

@@mattirwin463 I think Jon's first episode after returning to TDS was quite good in this regard, however, he still said something to the effect of "conservative's obsession with making everything political." That is a very, very inaccurate and one-sided statement. Both sides are equally guilty of that and to not even mention the liberals is inaccurate to the point of damaging. (imo).

Jon Stewart has contributed to the downfall of political discourse in this country more than anyone. We used to have respectful discussion and debate between two parties that disagree. Now we have Jons slapstick humor, name calling, and ridiculous straw manning.

Re: _"Jons slapstick humor, name calling, and ridiculous straw manning."_
You mean as opposed to the dignified deliberation and gravity of Trump, his minions and cult members? Such morally upstanding, respectful and respectable stalwarts as Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani, Stephen Miller, Roger Stone, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan,... I think you get the point.
If you want to bemoan the decline of thoughtful, well reasoned, and cordial political debate, look no further than the political commentators of Fox News, One America News Network, NewsMax, etc.
Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Seth Meyers, Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah, the Jimmys, and the rest are professional comedians by trade, not political journalists. You are complaining that a comedian is popular because he lampoons professional politicians and other public figures when they deserve it. Thank goodness you're not one of those thin-skinned snowflakes I've heard about!😁
