Man you're criminally underrated and under-viewed. I hope this video helps your channel take off and stuff, thank you for making quality content that's really helpful! Should I buy an already boosted EG b18b1 civic all it needs is a new t3 turbo? It's really cheap and he said it was pushing 8psi on stock motor.
EF_Wagon just check for basic stuff if you can , Comp test. Look for smoke puffing out the valve cover, or tail pipe. Also see if it get hot idling or driving, most common problems on a un tinned car like that is that 8 psi with out a tune will for sure crack a piston with only a few miles.
@@cocacola3269 all hondas come with forged crankshafts... its way cheaper and will be faster in the end if you throw in better rods and pistons and TUNE it properly. Honda v tec engines produce more hp and torque in stock form than any other comparable size engine on the market and inline engines are more efficient at making big power than v8 engines.. . An example of that is the ford 7.3 diesel compared to a cummins 5.9... look it up. Different strokes for different folks.
Thank you for making this video. I'm getting ready to add a turn k to my bone stock 99 S10 2.2l. don't want anymore than an extra 100-125hp. Just want to tow my boat at 75 mph. I've been a wrench turner for 30years but have NO turbo knowledge. Thank you for your time and information. You've answered some questions and worries about the ebay turbos. Wish I could get a telephone number for your shop to ask a couple of questions I have. I'm a disabled police officer and money is tight on disability and I do not want to make a mistake. Again thank you for this video!!!!
I'm on my 3rd eBay turbo and they have all worked amazing. 16g, 20g, and now on to the gt3582. I've ran them all for 10k+. Everyone knocks on eBay turbo. I've found that if you just take them apart and clean them when you get them they will last a while.
Been running an "eBay" Big 16G in my WRX for over 60,000 miles now. Zero issues and zero shaftplay. Running 21lbs tapering to 18 at redline.. thing is an absolute beast
This is the best most professional video i have seen on youtube. Straight to the point. Limited music very knowledgeable.. I was going to piece mine as well. I have a 1.8 literi figured id use a small audi or vw turbo I have a 1zzfe
Easily one of the most informing videos for people looking to get some extra power without breaking the bank but still being on the safe side. Love what you're doing man, I really hope more people watch your videos and subscribe because it is really hard to find this quality on youtube. Keep up the good work:)
To add to my first comment, this is a guy you want to listen to, & far as this subject, he hit the nail on the head. I have also been doing this stuff for over 20 years myself, & i can assure you that there is nothing he said that was wrong.
I would say way way WAY under-rated video, but then I noticed it has zero thumbs down. I don't think I've ever seen a video on youtube before with zeero thumbs down. .. knock on wood. Appreciate the video a ton man, GreatTT video. Not much else I can say
This is without a doubt the most concise and coherent discussion on turbos for those of us with little to no experience so good job on the video. I am wanting to piece meal a turbo kit together for my 5.7L Eagle Hemi and this was great information. Right now I'm trying to determine which turbo to get for a single turbo setup.
I can't thank you enough for how god damn helpful this video is. I was exactly in line with you on the wastegate. I regret buying fancy painted Intercooler pipe. I'm glad I still haven't gotten my turbo. Now I'll buy a simple journal t3
Funny that you mention the basic turbo. Just today on the dyno a customer had a eBay ball bearing turbo completely ceased on the dyno. He’s now re ordering a simple t3 journal bearing 100$ turbo off eBay. I think the new knock off ball bearing turbos are still over priced and under developed. Maybe in a few years they will get them to last better. 👌🤷♂️🤦♂️
It be pretty sweeet if you could put a link to a particular seller that you know has been selling half decent balanced turbos.. There are a million vendors(Still most likely all getting their turbos from the same place) But Chinese, from one Chinese manufacture, to another. Is not the same at all.. Some "precieved" quality products come from china (Apple). Thanks for the reply!
@@GearheadsAutofab Yeah it all depends on who is doing the reverse engineering on the quality products and which ones are being manufactured on a large scale. You'd be pretty safe with a garret style t3/t4 trim knockoff turbo.
Yep. I pierced my turbo kit and it’s making 800+ to the wheels on a Hemi now. Stock bottom end. I did it in steps. VS racing turbo and gate. Then upgraded the gate, then Turbo to a Precision. Makes great power. You got good advice here!!
Oh, also if it's possible, could you make a video about understanding how ECU's work, I mean I understand *how* they work but I mean buying one for your turbo car and the most cost-effective way to be able to tune with a turbo kit and stuff, and how to set it up? Really helpful man i was about to purchase a ebay turbo kit but with this new knowledge it has really helped me and ill be buying part by part making sure i have decent parts where needed! Thanks heaps.
Apparently you already bought one! 😆 ebay turbo kits are not as bad as people say. If your tune is right then the cheap stuff is good. I daily a b16a3 del sol with a 80$ emusa ramhorn, 80$ t4 50 trim, a 38mm rev9 wastegate that i found in a pull it yard, overly big intercooler, dsm 450's, feed and return lines were under 50$ for both, Ebay AN fittings, real talk. Piece it together and be resourceful. I am not going to lie. The emusa stainless/chrome ramhorn is much lighter than a schedule 40 600$ mani and its holding up exceptionally well for being under 100$, Just brace it to the block to support it a bit. This video is very informative. Low hp street builds are much faster with a full exhaust. Hood exits on stock charged builds is a power sacrifice, make power way sooner with full exhaust. Tune tune tune!
Great and simple conversation, I completely agree with waste gate being the most important. I would like to say the position of the waste gate is just as important specially when you are building your set up by piece!
Totally agree on piecing the kit together yourself. Worked great for my recent $500 turbo build. Friends have bought the all in one kits and some of the parts were truly sub par.
With years of doing this myself oh, I absolutely agree with staying away from the so-called kits. You're better off doing a homework learning what you need and buying the parts accordingly to what you're intending to apply them to. And you still will have to do Fabrications most of the time
If you can only afford a cheap turbo kit. You are better off just improving the N/A settup you have. Lightweight wheels. Exhaust. Intake plenum. Fuel pump and injectors. And for a little more money, lighter flywheel, thinner head gasket, stage 1 cams, adjustable cam gears. Etc etc. Ebay turbo kits can be hard to control as the build quality or metallurgy is hard for stock ecu. Just make your car (especially anything lower than halfway down the springs-sprung wieght.) then upgrade your differential and brake systems master cylinder and brake pads and braided hoses.and quality suspension including sway bars. Long story short. If you want to go faster, the best way to start is to make your car stop and handle better so you can brake later and carry higher corner speed. And by making your car lighter, your effectively giving it more power (via power to wieght ration) and increasing its handling abilities by helping the brakes and suspension do their job easier. Cheap turbo kits will only lead to reliability issues and the power increase will usually come at a cost to a performance decrease in another area. Get just one part of the system wrong or kit a kit not designed for your needs and cars specifics, your car probably will actually perform worse for how you are going to use it. Big power cars are useless on most streets, in traffic or on tight corners unless you have spent BIG $$ on top shelf parts selected by a quality professional
This is pretty much spot on, I'll disagree with the cheap blowoff valve statement though. They'll work fine under low boost but as soon as you start throwing and real boost pressure to it, it'll leak boost every time. Your best bet to turbo your car is and has always been to just save your money and buy good, quality stuff.
I'm really glad I found this video because I'm looking up turbo its for my Kia Fort 2016 LX 1.8L 6spd manual sedan. and Yes from Ebay. Very helpful on what to spend good money on and what not to spend to much mony on when it comes to Ebay turbo kits.
Awesome video! great wealth of simple info. I've painted intercoolers and it doesn't effect the thermodynamics of it at all. Provided you don't jam the cooler full of paint, a nice even coat is fine.

great video! thanks Ebay is here to stay even we like it or not. Dude! I love this video! Being completely new, and wanting to do a super low budget turbo build (civic, miata, nissan, etc..) this info was priceless. Liked, subbed, and notifications on👍
Twin rev9 72/68 t4s on my 5.3. 3 years now .3000lb truck 8.34 sec 1/4 mile 27lbs of boost. For 300 a piece I can't complain... oh and blow threw csu 850 cfm dual needle and seats!! Booyah
Thanks for the advice! New subscriber here! I have a 2004 Mazda Miata MX-5 LS that I will be adding parts too some day. That Miata has never seen RPM's above 5K. The ideal about the smaller turbo may work for me. BTW.. My car at this time is completely stock.
YOU DA MAN!!!! 😎 AWESOME information! Can't tell you how much your video is appreciated! I've been kicking around buying one of those kits but I really kinda wondered about some of the things that came with it. You just confirmed my suspicions. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Anytime someone tells me ebay turbos dont work I usually refer them over to boostedboiz channel lol. Im going cheap on my build. But most of mine has to be bought second hand or cheap for some parts because no one boosts these motors like that (and im happy for that because these motors are cheap as dirt with low mileage, like under 300 for 75k on motor.) Precision turbo makes some good wastegates and the one I am buying comes with every spring to work for anything from 1.5 to 18 psi in the box. great deal with room to play. You can cheap out on certain things but when it comes to reliability like you said those wastegates they sell will do nothing but promise failure. BOV im not sure, Id rather just get a brand name just because I wouldnt trust the surging to not destroy the turbine shaft.
If you have a small displacement motor i recommend a t3-t4 turbo around $100 on ebay the small t3 is the exhaust side so it's easy to spool and the t4. Side(intake) is a little bigger for more horsepower. It works very good for what it is
I got a nice ole 1978 Porsche 924 with a 2.0L 8 valve slant 4. Thinking about converting it into a turbo, but unlike most modern cars where a simple ECU tune and chip swap will take care of most of the performance tuning, my car lacks most of the computer components.
This is good and bad......bad is you’ll need to find a way to add Wiring sensors and a new computer. But the good is when your done you’ll be able to have modern control of s cool vintage Porsche !!!!
Mate you made very good points and mentioned some very helpful info. You should do this sort of thing more often maybe even review the quality of some ebay parts you fit to peoples cars etc its always helpful to have more information. Anyway cheers mate from AUS appreciate it
Mine's over 8yrs old and still holding up. Important parts, oil lines, oil restrictor, gaskets, (cuz everybody knows eBay gaskets are garbage) And get your car properly tuned afterwards. The cast manifold is okay, the only issue I have is the added weight of the kit, causing the exhaust manifold studs coming loose. Planning to retap again and use higher grade studs or bolts. The cheap kit I got came with beaded ends and good couplings and clamps. My 1st HKS knockoff BOV failed, 2nd one's still good. I think the expectations for my eBay build far exceeded all the doubters. Just cross your fingers and GL.
So conclusion is that this is obviously not a top-of-the-line solution but actually decent and while maybe not a race winner can build a decent driver car. Seems the big takeaway is, with the exception of wastegate and couplers, buy the simplest cheapest stuff, the slightly pricier fancy stuff will just cause more trouble. The advice about avoiding an oversize turbo that won't spool - that's true of any turbo build, whether you're buying cheap eBay stuff or top of the line parts. All quite encouraging, I'm about to do a build using a cheap eBay blowoff valve and hearing that those are decent is good news - though I figure it's a component that if it fails, open or closed, it won't immediately destroy anything else and won't be difficult or expensive to swap, not a big risk. My turbo is off a junkyard car, and it has an internal wastegate, so two things I don't have to worry about there, but good to know that if it were to not be any good (it seems good, no visible damage to compressor and shaft spins freely with no play) I could get a replacement cheap eBay turbo and it should do fine. Given how cheap they are, I'm thinking of buying a cheap big turbo, maybe one intended for a diesel truck, and trying to make a jet engine out of it - because why not!
Great video , well done 👍. Someone is always going to come along and need the 411 on stuff like that. Especially from someone that knows what they're talking about.
Dude thanks so much for this video I'm new to turbos and honestly don't completely understand them but this video has really helped me understand alot. I have subbed I look forward to more videos good job keep up the good work!
Hey G.A., appreciate your channel. Well done, entertaining good sincere information people can use. Finally, someone without hype that can go into simple explanations in ordinary way. On the VQ35DE, what is a good starting point lets say centered around the Turbo...i meant best brand wise? I like to gain a little more HP from stock. Btw, with regard to Re-Bay Turbo kits...request, not have THEM send you "Balloons"...perhaps get "Store Credit" from vendor for something better value as part of the set-up..lol. Thank you in advance!
He is absolutely correct on the turbo kits that company that shows the kit with a bunch of crap displayed on card board Stay away from them even though the price looks good the parts don't work just plain junk and when you call them for support they block you. the best way to do it is plan it out watch what other people are doing there are alot of videos of installs pay attention to the sizes they are using 7-10lbs of boost on a stock engine small turbos boost quick and the huge turbos leave to the street outlaws you will run your car lean and blow it up if you don't know what your doing
I agree.....we just did 9psi on a small turbo on the last Rsx we turbod, didn’t even blow up lol. But I think I’ll turn it all the way up next time I get it on the dyno just to see it’s max hp is. Turbos are awesome lol.
Hey love the channel. I have a 370z rn and like your twin build for panda. Was interested in doing a single turbo mid mount build similar to the bp kit. Do you have any recommendations for parts and such
Turbo- I love my Borg and Warner's. Wastegate actuator- I love my Forge diverter/blow off- once again Forge. Intercooler- once again Forge. Turbo inlet pipe- forge. Intercooler piping- yea...forge. If you couldn't tell I like my Volkswagens and Audis
I've done tons of ebay setups and personally think he's right on the money. If u use a Chinese clut ch don't use the Chinese pressure plate just the clutch disc with a stock pp and you'll be good
Great video man! In the process of gathering parts for my first turbo car. I gained lots of wisdom from this 18min video. To the point, no rambling, very helpful. A quality wastegate makes perfect sense. Any suggestions on what turbo would suite a 4.2L I-6, 8.5 comp, 300-350hp target, 5000prm ceiling, manual trans, 3.55 gear ratio, cast split log manifold with 123/456 ports. Want to go twin scroll to capitalize on the split exhaust pulses, just have no idea what turbo would meet the power target at say 10psi. Thanks for any input!
After getting all these pieces together that you mentioned in the video. What should I do after the installation?/other maintenance. How to not crack pistons and such. Also tune it?
On most stock cars you need to upgrade the fuel system, then tune it, and you need to know that even with a perfect tune, if you have a bad misfire or bad gas or any stock part fails like alternator, you can still blow it up. But as long as everything remains in good repair it should last at a conservative Hp level.
So got a simple question maybe. I'm looking to do a budget build twin turbo ls1. Watching you and Richard Holdener I think doing the twin gt45 style turbos for that 120-180$ range would be perfect. With this combo in mind and to fill the air space would one of those giant ebay intercoolers work or should I look at something else?
Man you're criminally underrated and under-viewed. I hope this video helps your channel take off and stuff, thank you for making quality content that's really helpful! Should I buy an already boosted EG b18b1 civic all it needs is a new t3 turbo? It's really cheap and he said it was pushing 8psi on stock motor.

Dude! I love this video! Being completely new, and wanting to do a super low budget turbo build (civic, miata, nissan, etc..) this info was priceless. Liked, subbed, and notifications on👍
GREAT WORDS, VERY CREDIBLE AND DOWN TO EARTH!
Eye opener and a lot of good info. Thanks and will be following.
Hey man, excellent information that you're throwing around. I'm surprised you don't have more views. Thanks for the good info!
Twin rev9 72/68 t4s on my 5.3. 3 years now .3000lb truck 8.34 sec 1/4 mile 27lbs of boost. For 300 a piece I can't complain... oh and blow threw csu 850 cfm dual needle and seats!! Booyah
My GOD bro, thank u from the bottom of my ❤️🙏, this is the video I needed! This will be the basis for my build!
Thanks for the advice! New subscriber here! I have a 2004 Mazda Miata MX-5 LS that I will be adding parts too some day. That Miata has never seen RPM's above 5K. The ideal about the smaller turbo may work for me. BTW.. My car at this time is completely stock.
The best video I have found after searching for weeks.
Glad to help
i done over 15k miles on my ebay t3/4 turbo in 2 years with 10 psi not bad for the price but great video and got your self a sub
Just in time I'm planning to turbo my old truck. Thanks for the awesome vid
Know what... This is now my fave channel. Im gonna binge watch all your stuff later 👌🏼
I'm about to pull the trigger and the info was nice. Learned a lot, particularly about the wastegate 😳 Mahalo!
YOU DA MAN!!!! 😎
AWESOME information! Can't tell you how much your video is appreciated! I've been kicking around buying one of those kits but I really kinda wondered about some of the things that came with it. You just confirmed my suspicions.
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
Glad to help
This is great! I want to turbo my GSR, only paid 3k for the car. Rebuilding the transmission now, car runs great.
Great car to boost !
I know from personal experience from hanging around your shop that you know your stuff when it comes to turbos and engine work.
Hi Cody ! Sup dude nice to hear from you ! You driving any cool project car these days ?
Anyway cheers mate from AUS appreciate it
We love the channel brother! Keep up the good work! See you at the track soon....
awesome vid bro lot of insight on what to shop and buy for my car thumbs up
Turbo a 1 cylinder motorcycle carburetted, that we want to see
Or ram air
+PRUIKKI RACING omg I never tried to turbo a 1 cyl lol
Hey you should make a start to finish video where you source, build and test the whole process. Great video.
This was such an excellent video. Super informative. Love your charisma over the camera too! Subbed
Mine's over 8yrs old and still holding up.
Important parts, oil lines, oil restrictor, gaskets,
(cuz everybody knows eBay gaskets are garbage)
And get your car properly tuned afterwards.
Dude , your seeing first hand what I’m trying to tell everyone!! Good stuff man!!
VULCAN GENIUS!!!!!! excellent advice sir, well done
Omg thank you this is what I'm looking for. straight to the point!!!! Thank you!!!!
Bro, i learned more about turbos in this video than i did in class !!!!
It’s just real life experiences over the years and hundreds of installs. 👌
A year later n this video is helped me with turboing my ex Civic
finally, someone who knows what they are talking about...very well informative video
Thanks man 👌
Dude thanks so much for this video I'm new to turbos and honestly don't completely understand them but this video has really helped me understand alot. I have subbed I look forward to more videos good job keep up the good work!
Thanks dude !! Feel free to always ask questions in the comments or email me👌 no question is too simple everyone starts some where !!
Cant wait to see this channel blow up
I came to watch this video to make fun of you, but you really know your stuff. Definitely underrated channel!
😂👌 lol......welcome to my channel 🚗💨💨
Great advice this is information that everyone been looking for , The begin is going to be happy. Thank Robert.
Man this is a solid video great job. I was on the fence about it switching the stock twin turbos out. Solid!
Do you have any recommendations for parts and such
I don’t have any experience with mid mount but I bet it’s going to be awesome!
Turbo- I love my Borg and Warner's.
Wastegate actuator- I love my Forge
diverter/blow off- once again Forge.
Intercooler- once again Forge.
Turbo inlet pipe- forge.
Intercooler piping- yea...forge.
If you couldn't tell I like my Volkswagens and Audis
I've done tons of ebay setups and personally think he's right on the money. If u use a Chinese clut ch don't use the Chinese pressure plate just the clutch disc with a stock pp and you'll be good
1 thing I've learnt around heaps of turbo cars is that it's cheaper to buy 1 already boosted and just make it faster then doing it from scratch
Very helpful insight! Thank you for taking the time to make this video!
Love the power button profile picture 🤷♂️ looks cool
:D
Honestly, the eBay turbos are alright if you don't put a SHIT TON of boost through them
Thank you for your insight, it has been very helpful.
This info is GOLD... thank you
Great video. Thanks! The table is a little high though, and with that narrow bench, it looks like you're a very tiny person in one big chair. xD
Baaaaa......dying right now. I built the table tall so my grate Dane can’t get my food so easy 😂😂😂👌
I thought is looked pretty badass.
Some of the best turbo information..
Thank you, almost made a big mistake.
Great video👌keep it up💪
So got a simple question maybe. I'm looking to do a budget build twin turbo ls1. Watching you and Richard Holdener I think doing the twin gt45 style turbos for that 120-180$ range would be perfect. With this combo in mind and to fill the air space would one of those giant ebay intercoolers work or should I look at something else?
I dont understand much that ppl say but your really easy to understand... I feel much more confident turboing my 1.3 suzuki ignis now yeehaa.
Um... Can you give me a list of what you said is the best thing to get
why dont you watch the video and writing the shit down!
