- HOW TO 2008-2020 Grand Caravan Complete Starter Replacement. Starter Replacement how to. This is a complete replacement guide for 2008-2020 Grand Caravan 3.8L starter replacement. Starter Mounting bolts are torqued to 35.5lb/ft(36lb/ft is what i did) and the Starter cable nut is torqued to 128lb/in. The only tools needed are a ratchet, 10mm, 13mm and 15mm stockets. Also will need a torque wrench. I go back after filming and verify all hardware is torqued to spec even if I dont film it. Thanks for watching and dont forget to subscribe!!

Thanks, replaced a starter in my 2008 DGC, after watching your video.
I'm a tow guy, not a mechanic, but I did get the starter off of her, and I'm stoked about it.
Thanks for the vid, it really helped out! The hard part for me was keeping the 'dust' shield in proper place when reinstalling the starter. I did not have jacks to jack the van up, so could only get one arm in there at a time due to lack of clearance underneath. I rubbed some grease on the starter to hold the dust shield in proper position. Then shoved the starter in position and it stayed in the hole; then I went to the other side to start the bottom bolt; had to wiggle the starter a little to get the bottom bolt started. Also I was able to reach the top bolt from the top of the van with the wrench. Overall not too hard of a job.
Thank you for the video. I wasn't sure how it was going to go.
Dude thanks. Very well done video.
Thanks for providing torque specs!
Thanks for the video. It was great guide.
My car is 2010 dodge caravan. I had two 15mm bolts and voltage cable has 13mm. I had it much more difficult because the car wasn't raised up :(
Also it was much easier for me to deal with the upper bolt from the engine hood. I am glad I was able to fix the car, it was like having dead body on my driveway.
Well done.
Your video seems to be the easiest way to do the job. Thank you.
Super Fantastic. Thanks for the video it helped me out a lot.
Your welcome and thank you!
I’m here because my 2017 just wouldn’t start. My battery is only 2 yrs old and I tried to jumpstart but didn’t help. I’m now looking for other causes. There’s a click sound when I try to ignite it.
Same problem here, it could either be the starter relay, or the starter itself. Mine is the starter.
You are always doing a wonderful job, but to day I have a code P0340 on my 2008 Dodge grand Caravan 3.8L V6 CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT BANK 1
Could you tell where it is located please? I can't find it
3.3 liter?
I have a 2009 Caravan sxt and it is a bit different there is a catalytic converter in the way not to mention the 02 sensor I got the the starter off but can't get it out lol
Get under and beat the starter a couple times, see if it fixes it, replacing it should be fairly easy too
Ok. It's kind of hard to make out where this is. Maybe next time clarify whether it is on the driver's or passenger side.
What is the typical mileage when the caravan starters act up? My brother has installed 2 of them on his 2014 caravan before 84,000 miles....
Depends. There technically isn’t a replacement interval for the starter. Different things can affect the life tho. Say the engine ground is a little weak. Not weak enough to cause issues but could be causing the starter to have to work a little harder and wear it out quicker. Or engine mechanical issue that’s causing extra drag that causes the starter to work harder. There are others but you get the idea.
My 010 grand caravan won't do nothing.when key turned cleaned terminals nothing...any ideas battery is newer 12 volts ...on voltmeter...dash lights work ...
Use the voltmeter and make sure your getting power to the solenoid when key is in the start position. Possible starter relay but hard to diagnose without having it in front of me.
Is this the same for the 3.3 engine?
Yes
My old starter, the gear on the shaft freely moves side to side a little bit, when I hold it and shake it the gear moves side to side is it broken?
Do I have to hold the new starter with one hand below to place the first bolt from above?
I do both bolts from underneath and yes, you’ll have to hold the starter to get the threads of the bolt started without cross threading.
Do I just pull out the plastic clip or is there a tab to press?
This one had a small red lock that pulled straight back then there is a tab you press down on to release the connector to take it off.
@@DMoneyGarage Ah, thanks. Though I was sure I edited my post in an update, I took some extra time and found out mine had one of those squeeze the top to pull out clips.
I took the bolts off but the fucker doesn't want to pop off
How the FUCK did you reconnect the bolts with your hand?
