As I watched I said to myself, "this is one of the most concise RUclips 'instructors' I've seen." Camera angles and details are on point without being overly verbose, no annoying music, noise, darkness, or chatter. You're a great teacher for us DIY car mechanics no doubt.
Mine is an 05 Grand Caravan. Can't get to the top bolt. Use an extension and the socket wrench hits the transmission lines. Use a smaller extension and it won't reach.
Thank you for being such a good teacher ...Clear and thorough instructions you've earned a follower ...thanks man keep up the good work and great explanations for those of us that need as such before diving into a job we have never done before.
I have done the job, it was hard for me to remove it and install it in a couple hours each task, the bottom bolt was easy using a ratchet open wrench 15 mm, to put the top bolt first i run it with lots of WD40 then by hand and a 15 mm longest end, once tight, insert 2 terminal into the shortest end stud a 13 mm, to put the top bolt i was afraid to cross tread if not lined properly, anyways, It is working like a charm, I changed the copper contact in the solenoid now no more click-click, the brushes were like brand new, 116,000 kms. caravan 2003 SE 3.3L used for short shopping trips , I added a little of dialectic grease in the top bolt terminals and at the bottom power cable connector, to prevent corrosion, I live in a high humid area
I notice at the 2:03 mark in the video you talk about the s-plug, I have bought a brand new battery and a brand new starter, and come to find out for me its the s-plug being loose, just slides in and while driving it wiggles out so I get stuck in parking lots at grocery stores ect, how do you fix or replace the s-plug so it fits snug and not just slides in and out?
A quick way is with a small zip tie to hold it on the terminal. Otherwise you will need to close the female end of the plug with a small pick so it fits tighter over the receiving blade on the starter. Either works fine 👍
@@ValleyMobileAutomotive Thank you for such a quick response I just came back from the hardware store I was going to superglue it in place, glad I read this first before I messed up.
3:45 what does "after that it's a 15mm mean? Where is the head of that bolt you show at 5:42? The 13mm nut end is accessible under the exhaust and it's easy to remove it and the cables.
My dodge has metal power steering lines that are making it very difficult to get the one on top. Even with a long extension. it extends me right into those lines. I am going to borrow a flexhead wratchet or a wratchet like yours to try. It is a 2007. Thanks for this video it did help me alot.
I found out that third bolt hole in the middle is for a bolt to hold the shim in place for the top bolt but I just put glue on it to hold it in place, also, I had to do what you did to remove that top bolt in order to keep from messing up that bolt head.
Well done I've got the same prob.i turn the key to start there's a click then I turn the key back then try again the the starter engages thanks for your help
When I start my 07 grand caravan right after I start it I hear a grind noise in a very short burst doesn't always do it mostly does it when I cold start it could that be the starter
Changed mine like about 3 weeks ago, car battery went dead the other day, tried to a jump start and noticed a spark coming from the negative ground from the starter. Is it possible the ground strap isn't tight enough?
I went out and bought the exact same wire and put it in the exact same way and poof my dash lights stopped going off and on my stereo stopped staying on and playing keep away with the CD after I shut the van off. My window problem went away.
It's possible you have a bad starter. Make sure the battery has a full charge and try again. Also check to make sure you are getting power on the S terminal when you turn the key to start it.
@@dmana3172 Honestly I'm not sure what the ramifications are of leaving the shim plate off. I know they have it there for a reason but is it absolutely necessary? I'm not sure.
@@wingerfan1 It's hard to tell without looking at it. It could be the starter but it could be something else. I suggest taking it to a place that can diagnose it properly. That way you're not wasting money. Hopefully that helps.
@@ValleyMobileAutomotive well I'm going to replace the starter on it tomorrow strictly because it does have 200,000 miles. If you'd like to know something really sad I picked up a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country for free with 300,000 miles and it has none of the issues this 2005 . It's in pretty good shape except for it's a little rusty.

It may be stuck to the engine. Try gently tapping it with a plastic hammer or piece of wood.
