Any glaring omissions?
I just started the vid. Waiting for the Orange Arrows, it might show up yet.
Made my own in gt7 yesterday, it occured to me that Chello agreed to be all black while their logo was officially blue with a red dot. Just for that nice livery. Now, there’s a gentleman’s move.
The 2013 Lotus. The red looked absolutely shit.
@@johnedwards230 Lotus livery in 2011 and 2012 was beautiful. You're right about the red that Total insisted on because it ruined the scheme.
It really did
@@thegridgab You were so right about Oracle. A soul destroying rent seeking piece of sj**. I cant wait till the RB Oracle era is over.
As a livery designer myself i gotta say, i wish companies had a thought process with their logo to be: The better the livery looks, the more exposure you get. Cuz cmon we all know, the good looking cars are the ones we remember
Great insight!
COUGH COUGH caterham ct04 COUGH COUGH
I agree but also bad ones also stand out. Like the Ferrari with that awful green from a few years ago.
@@enricoli1059It looks like its doing something very very odd
@@eightfive1177 well yeah, but them standing out because they're ugly isnt what id call good publicity. you'd associate a company like mission winnow / pmi for ruining the 2021 livery. It's publicity yeah but not positive towards the brand itself
The HP logos look like the paper ad boards that cover office depot shelves
A crate of them probably arrived at Maranello!
Ferrari is daring, it’s luxury, it’s red, it’s iconic, ironically no matter how much money HP gave Ferrari, the HP logo cheapens the car.
I don’t think HP as a sponsor for F1 works very well, everyone recognizes HP as a company you only interact with in your cubicle job, that shade of blue is bland.
Spot on
I'll always remember HP with Montoya's Williams BMW, fighting against the Ferrari of Schumacher. That's why HP together with Ferrari now feels weird.
I don’t really hate the pink line in the Aston Martin, thought it was to remind people that it use to be racing point or something
i did hate that livery but not because of the pink stripe... its cause i don't like british racing green... would honestly have been so much better if was fully pink... and yes, i do dislike all the aston liveries for the same reason. would have been infinitely better had they chosen yellow as the primary colour- similar to how the vulcan AMR looks.
@@zeejemusic8843That's silly
@@Stettafire I disagree.
@@zeejemusic8843U hate british racing green, why?
It's a beautiful colour
@@aoxo3546 beautiful is subject is it not? Also I find that it doesn't pop at all.
logos and colors are fine, but an F1 car with a name of 'Visa Cash App RB F1 Team' is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE !
Now that name is taking the piss
Like Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber
@@Jabid21 thank god they're slow so we can just simplify them to john Deere, the green tractors.
@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 lol
No idea what you're talking about. Toro Rosso is still the name.
The yellow & white stripes on the Ferrari are just a subliminal extension of the VGW play sponsor, now with HP slapped on it just looks like a Nascar.
What makes a great livery?
Cigarettes.
Fight me.
I like the cut of your jib!
You're goddamn right
another ones are ones we never saw before but we searched up
Balloon animal sculptures
...and alcohol
I feel bad for the graphic designers because I just know they have very nice ideas for liveries but unfortunately the marketing and accountants step in and tell them to make a livery design to keep shareholders and stakeholders happy. If only they had a team owner or manager that can look past this and actually make a livery that is aesthetically pleasing and highlights their history and success.
Yeah I agree, I'd love speak to a livery designer and get an inside scoop
To me out of place sponsors make the brands look sketchy and un-attractive, like it makes HP look bad in the Ferrari livery. Makes BTW look like a grumpy unapproachable company, Olsen look like an entitled company that don't seem consumer friendly etc
How something is displayed is much more important of what ks displayed, look at the williams Duracell sponsorship and actually makes the car look like it's powdered by Duracell batteries, or how ineos integrated with the black arrows mercedes
I really miss the yellow Renault livery. It complemented the Orange and Red liveries of McLaren and Ferrari. ❤️🧡💛
Yes it was a great one
I actually liked the pink stripe on the Aston Martins. I prefer the yellow. But i did like the pink.
I do miss the Pink Panthers.
The whole pink Racing Points were good
02:36 I mean hp has been around since 1966 (1939 if we count when they did audio products) and have been responsabile for a lot of advances in the computer world (especially on the business side), in it's area hp is very well iconic
One thing Eddie Jordan got right when he started out was to seek out sponsors with colour schemes that matched his design aesthetic.
Eddie wanted a green car so he sought out Fuji Film, 7UP, BP all companies with a green colour scheme.
Yeah its great that he did that
The thing with HP is that they also sponsor Real Madrid. Their logo is on the sleeve and it's Black and White and fits well to the teams' jersey.
Why couldn't they do the same thing for Ferrari ?
Black HP logo would go hard! They could even do it in carbon fibre
Looking through the history of the series, these liveries are nowhere near horrible.
Alpines 2021 car had a beautiful Livery though, and the pink did ruin it.
That 2021 livery was magnificent!
Full pink liveries are amazing, it's a shame that it's so often ruined by accent colors that absolutely ruin the look of the pink
To be honest, I thought we would've had another BWT victim here, Force India in 2017. It was black, silver with orange and maybe green lines for the indian flag during the 2017 pre-season tests
Oh good one! Forgot about that
Eh, in all honesty The bwt cars don't look that bad in full pink, the alpine however looks awful.
@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 True, the 2020 Racing Point is the best one, even tho it's called the Pink Mercedes
Their livery is not THAT bad. But I would agree! As much as they can fuck it up, I would say that Marlboro's era of Formula was by far the best designs we have ever seen. Seena's Mclaren and beautiful Ferraris after that. You gotta give them that!
Yeah its Iconic
The SportPesa sponsorship on the RP19 was also pretty ugly. Hideous even. And Red Bull without the ByBit logos in China also looked much better.
The Winfield Williams was the most horrific livery change ever, it completely destroyed the Williams brand and set in motion the downfall of the team up until it was sold in 2020.
A VERY interesting theory.
@@thegridgab nah, Newey being allowed to walk away, in combination with Renault leaving F1 the year after, had a lot more to do with their downfall. Long-term, being a privateer team didn't help.
Their brief renaissance from 2001-04 was thanks to the bomb of a BMW engine, but it could never fully make up for Newey leaving.
The current Williams is a shocker. Their royal blue from Buttons days was heaps better.
@@Ho3n3r The BMW engine was very fast but incredibly unreliable.
Nooo that 2021 Aston Martin was one of the cleanest in the new ground effect era
Except it wasn’t a ground effect car yet. 2022 regulations introduced the big change.
2021 wasnt ground effect tho?
@@massimolettuce 2021 is when they brought back the flat floor and etc
@@nikolasschiavitto6553 I am quite sure since I double checked now that 22 was the year… The MV and LH fight was in the transition era to the new regs
you cannot deny that the white wings on the Ferrari look excellent. I think this is better looking than before.
I do agree there actually. At first I was nostalgic for black wings but white looks better
The Orlen Alpha Tauri was bad, because the car looked exactly like a Haas
I can’t even imagine how much money HP spent to demand 16 logos on the Ferrari. They absolutely butchered it.
You gave us a ripper saying. I'll steal Wind Your Neck In. That's gold
Glad to be of service!
The HP white added on the wings is good enough for me. Schumacher vibes
I agree, just switch out the blue logo
I liked Torro Rosso's colors over the Alpha Tauri redesign and name, but the Orlen spoiler being red and Alfa Sauber keeping their red/white livery, made it confusing to keep up which car was what team.
I do like when a car with fixed, matching colors add little accents of standout colors. Like Tom Blomqvist’s Indy 500 car had little bits of neon yellow because of a lemonade sponsor, and it looks good because all the other colors overpower the yellow.
But what I don’t like is when cars don’t have enough colors to overpower a standout sponsor. For example, Mercedes. The Ineos logo really ruins the flow of the turquoise and black of the car imo.
I like the HP on the Ferrari except the rear wing. The main logo gets rid of empty space
Fair play, we'll see if they stay with the colour scheme
I think it was around 2002 when Ducati raced in World Superbikes that used Red and Blue in their livery similar to what Ferrari has this year. It looked good. However, it doesn't seem to work the same way for Ferrari.
The current VCarb livery isn't reminding me of an old TR, but with the blue/white car and red letters on it, it reminds me of the old 1992 Williams.
The most daring and coolest livery that mclaren should do, isn't in F1, but in indycar: They copied the Marlboro layout but changed the color to bright orange. Imagine if they did that to their F1 cars❤
The HP ruining the Ferrari and ByBit ruining Red Bull rear wing are upsetting
Missed the 2019 Force India with that SportPesa blue
God that was awful
wasnt expecting such an excellent video. great effort :)
Thank you very much!
7:07 on an off note the 2020/21 AT cars will be seen as modern classics in terms of the paint job it just fits so well
I agree, very tasteful designs
@@thegridgab Now I think about it the 2020 grid had some lookers it was such a colourful grid compared to 2024
We took it for granted lol
At this point, I’m just missing Mission Winnow on Ferraris. I mean, they want to ban cigarette advertisement but for some reason they allow all cryto sponsors who potentially (even some are already i.e. FTX) defraud billions dollars of investors money.
Too many influencing people getting rich in crypto sponsors unfortunately. Could throw betting companies into that too.
That green was ugly on red
anything bad for people shouldn't be allowed, meaning if it's addictive it's gone. gambling, crypto (gambling), cigarettes, cannabis, all of it needs to be gone.
The HP logo could work with the current livery, it's the fact that there are so many of them on the car that ruins it. Same with the race suits, that massive patch on the stomach just looks weird, especially since there's already a logo on the front. I'm not bothered at all by the sponsorship; $300 million is very much needed after you've signed arguably the greatest driver of all time and are allegedly going after the most influential aerodynamics engineer of our time. It makes complete sense why they got a title sponsor, I just wish they'd get those things off the front and rear wings.
I liked that Alpine raced with a blue car. Having cars in the old national racing colors makes it seem more significant to me, like it's really a competition between the best teams all around the world, rather than all around Oxfordshire. Imagine if HP sponsored Haas instead, then we would have had rossa d'Italia, bleu de France, British racing green, silver arrows and American racing stripes
Great content, great visuals, I give it two thumbs up. Well done!
I really appreciate that @theoriginalcraig , more on the way!
i wish they did the new hp logo, it would fit so well on that car
I really loved that pink lined Aston!
That's fine, glad you enjoyed it
I think the 2024 Alpine livery would look so much better if they just had shades of blue with no pink
now, I understand that the blue HP logo is a bit of a color shock on the red Ferrari, but I think it gives off a bit of a late 80's to early 90's Fiat sponsorship vibe. The blue Fiat logo was on the air box of the Ferrari for a very long time
If they had the HP logo in the font that the premium model laptops have and dumped the blue circle it would look pretty good
The monaco ferraro was beeeauuutifulll. The white made it look like the og Ferrari again
I actually don’t mind the pink on the Aston, however that might be because you showed the atrocious Ferrari with blue first 🤣
Tactics!
I admit I hated the HP in the Ferrari at first but as time went on, it grew on me
The Alpine livery was a BEAUTY back in 2021 with the french flag and the black/white/blue overalls that I thought it could be carried to 2022 until BWT stepped in and messed up their livery... man how I have anger towards BWT for doing that.
The 2021 Alpine was so good. I never understood why they didnt keep it the same for 2022 but changed the red part at the back to pink
Ferrari played a blinder with the livery, making it purposefully shit so people talk about it, your basically doing the marketing for them.
Yep, got me hook, line and sinker
Only thing I disagree with is the Alpha Tauri/Orlen livery. I always thought the Alpha Tauri liveries were horribly boring and the splashes of red added just a bit of life. So while I didn't necessarily think the AT/Orlen livery was great, I liked it slightly more than the ones before.
4:46 To be fairly honest, i liked that livery. It was a new thing to not have the traditional Aston Martin Racing color scheme, and i didn't mind the pink stripe. Better than having an *AMR* car painted *pink.* A fully pink Racing Point is fine, but a fully pink Aston Martin is genuinely odd
7:35 My main complaint regarding the liveries of the Lotus E21 and E22 (2013 and 2014 cars) was the amount of red in them, but the Alpha Tauri 2023 livery wasn't as destroyed as the Lotus liveries were. I liked it. Though it would have been even better without the red
I do agree with the rest of the video
Still feel the worst offenders are the ING Direct Renault and the god damn Honda World Car.
The Orlen AlphaTauri looked good in my opinion.
Yeah the red would've clashed with the navy blue, but the way the red was used like an accent color on the halo for example, next to black bits of the car. The logo on the very top of the rear wing looked particularly good
The reds barely touched the blues without some Black in between.
If hp didn't slap their blue logo, but their "premium" logo it would look great on the ferrari.
Yeah it really would
Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard are as important to the digital age as Enzo Ferrari is to motor history.
The liveries have been boring in the last few years. The only ones that stand out are BWT pink cars from 2017 to 2020, Alpha Tauri in their first 2 seasons, Stake F1, McLaren when they were actually committed to orange, Ferrari liveries ever since they returned to Ferrari red and incorporated subtle touches of yellow into the livery and Williams Martini. Everything else is boring to the eye.
Let’s not forget that the “paint removal” for weight saving plays a huge part in this especially in the last 3 seasons. Cars with unbalanced colors which could be better if they included full color merging and blocking would still look interesting to say the least, however this whole “zero paint as much as possible” really ruins the flow of liveries. Especially on the front and rear wings with some teams running the sponsor on the main plane color blocked let’s say for example white on red, and the the whole wing is just black, absolutely kills liveries and I hope the FIA intervenes and makes rules regarding minimum surface area coverage for paint. On a personal note, I’m also tired of matte liveries for again, weight saving, I miss nice glossy shiny cars full of color and character, now they are just plain and dull ad boards with sponsorship influenced colors as further mentioned in the video
The HP logo on the Ferrari is just disgusting, most Ferrari fans hate it too, but ig it makes them stand out, which is their goal
Another perfect livery that was ruined that you didn’t mention was the 2023 Aston Martin when they brought on Valvoline which in my option just made the livery look bad and just sour.
A lot of sponsors would rather have it look horrible than average cause it still gets people to look at it.
It will be nice if HP just using white only.
Instead, they forced using Blue in Ferrari.
That 2020 Aston is iconic. Great for one year. 🍉
All hail team watermelon
Aston didn’t have a car in 2020. It was still Racing Point with Stroll and Perez.
@@moiseulpasmoi good Point.
2021. Watermelon sugar, high! 🍉
The HP could just be a white circle with the hp in white or a filled white circle with the ‘HP’ cut out
But I guess we can’t have nice things
Pink on the AM was actually good.
HP blue > Mission Winnow green
(i actually like the HP (from a ferrari fan) because it added white to the front wing and rear wing, however i think that for 2025 the HP logo should be ferrari colored with white text and red background to really fit in since were all gonna notice the massive letters HP anyways)
Eh, it was cool seeing the Walmart logo on the Red Bull because there is one right outside my house.
I have 2 problems with the current liveries, paint savings leaving wings and sidepods only in carbon black (very ugly), and Matte Paint (ugliest paint ever created), it looks like the car is old or spent a lot of time in the sun and ruined the ink.
Im a Ferrari fan so im maybe a bit biased, but I have to say, I actually quite like the funky blue bits from HP on the Ferrari car 😅
Tbh the more i look at the SF-24 livery (with hp logo) the more i begin to like it
I dont know why modern cars dont stick out like old cars do. Like the malboro, martini, john player, they dont stand out. Even the solid red of 90s ferraris stuck out more
The HP on the ferrari livery is a fuckin sin
Honestly I genuinely think that the red Orlen touch on the 2023 alpha tauri looked amazing, better than their 2022 and 21 livery
Ferrari being red did not originate with Marlboro. In fact, it drove them to a more orange-ish red, from which they’re fortunately returned.
The Miami livery was alright. I've definitely seen pictures somewhere of old Ferrari GT cars from the 60s with a similar light blue on red color scheme which looked nice, so the blue stripes didn't look that out of place on a Ferrari, at least to me. Now that they've scaled back the branding to just blue logos and those horrible white boxes on the wings it just looks kind of soulless and boring. The nice look they started out the season with has been diluted. If they're gonna have blue on the car they should commit to the bit.
I didn't like the 2021 Aston when it launched, but in hindsight I do appreciate how it subverted our expectations a little bit with the watermelon pink. The 2022 car looked stale before it even hit the track because it was too much like the bad concept liveries we had been seeing for years prior. There are a couple liveries from the 2022 season that I feel are mad overrated.
The AT04 didn't look that bad last year, but now that we have the non-matte VCARB to compare it to it's pretty awful. I liked the little blue streaks in front of the sidepod inlets, and I just wish that sort of graphic had featured more prominently on the car (although I could do without it on the wheel covers).
I've never been a huge fan of the Alpine liveries, not even the 2021 one from before BWT came onboard. Honestly, if the early season pink livery from this year had a matte black base, then that would probably be my favorite so far since the rebrand.
I feel that liveries in F1 have gotten better over the last few years, whereas team names have gone fishing in a landfill.
The, what was it? Stake sunnink sunnink Sauber looks very nice.
It’s just Ferrari that misses out. They have the perfect name and the lame livery. Mid 70s, I had a poster up of Lauda’s car. She was a looker. Now? It’s mainly red. That’s it, job done.
Oh, a sponsor. We’ll just paste it on. Be it a vaping brand or a printer no one wants. Do the colours match? Don’t care. Does it even fit the bodywork? Not my job.
Oh, we’re going Murica! Remember NART! We’ll paste some babyblue on there, nevermind where or how much. That’s not honouring NART, it’s an arrogant disgrace. Ferrari demands respect everywhere it goes, but doesn’t give any in return. Caligula syndrome.
Names have gone down the pan big time
I'm waiting for animated liveries. You know those. Vivid blue bg with red letters 😂
Sponsors almost Always ruin liveries. The only exception I can think of is the Lotus 72 John Player Special
The Aston looks really nice and i was hoping it would stay
In my 27 years of watching F1 I went from barely interested about liverys to not giving a single fuck. And I still don't know why people care.
HP want a blue logo, Ferrari just said yes, didn't insist on a white logo. They should have.
Didn't put up much of a fight
Literally all they had to do was make thr HP logo black, SMH
Pink on the Aston looked fine to the eye. The Ferrari I agree with.
Whenever i saw the Racing Point on track i immediately thought of the song Barbie Girl. Not BWT.
I mean HP has a logo for their Premium appliances which would fit incredibly well.
The marlboro cars in the 90s were the best and i wont accept anything else 😂
Google Chrome on the Mclaren looks way worse than Ferrari hp imo
The blue HP is the worst!! As one of many who collect the odd 1:18 die-cast, the Monaco winning Leclerc Ferrari would be a nice collectible had it been without the out-off-place HP logo, especially replacing ‘Ferrari’ on the rear wing. Yuk!!!
HP on that rear wing just looks hideous!
Both the engine cover and halo of Ferrari SF-24 should've been white just like Ferrari SF16-H, so the HP logo could be black!
100% Just me, but I think the 2023 AlphaTauri looks pretty decent, still quite far from the Prime 2021, but it's still better than what some other teams chuck out now.
Liveries like art are subjective what you enjoy others may hate, honestly I love the blue mixed with rosso scuderia
You're absolutely right. All opinions
I honestly like the hp logos on the engine cover, it brightens the livery, and i think that blue stays somewhat well with red and the rest of the livery. The thing that really ruins it for me are the white wings with the logos on it, those are clearly out of place and just don't fit
I actually liked the pink stripe on the Aston a lot...
7:35 you know what? I don't mind that livery... they managed to put some red on their usual livery and making it work well!
speaking of red... I'm sure that Ferrari HP sponsorship wasn't in mind when creating the SF24 livery and they'll probably find another way in the future to make the blue of their logo stand well on theirs usual gorgeous red/white/yellow livery :)
Yeah no doubt they'll make it work
Ferrari has really never had good sponsors for their liveries other than maybe winston. They have always tended to just sorta slap on whatever logo with all its colors, no matter how good or bad it looks.
HP could have worked with the classic blue Ferrari livery’s from the 60s
Honestly the HP Ferrari would already look a lot better if they made that yellow sripe white. It's the contrast of blue, white, and yellow accents that bothers me the most.
BWT pink liveries are just hideous, except maybe for 2017 one.
BWT Aston Martin was alright IMO, BWT's crime occured in 2022 to me 😂, if they kept what they did with Aston and applied it to the Alpine it could have produced a very beautiful livery. Yet they chose the original clear pink that felt odd on the Alpine and put a massive logo on the sidepods and wings... They could have done this so much better... The full pink Alpine was better looking but as frenchies we need that Alpine blue to stick around 😅 (and yes I hate that carbon nightmare livery as well)
Ferrari can try to scrub away and pretend the iconic livery with Marlboro never existed, but it's part of their most succesful history in f1(99-04).
The blue hp logo looks awful and ruins the red and yellow.
