This is an awesome review/comparison! I've been debating wether to get the Sony or Sigma for a while now and the only thing tipping me over to the Sony was the OSS but now that I got a Gimbal I'm gonna go with the Sigma. It definitely yields a better picture in my opinion!
Hey. just want to say that I was in the same thoughts as you and I went for sigma. I also use the gimbal and sigma lens is one of them sharpest lenses I have.
Started to watch... and THANKS GOD! No "what's up everybody" at the beginning, no pointless watery bla-bla and technical stuff. Finally cutting straight to the chase. Thank you for saving my time.
There is one more thing for Sony lens - it's smaller. I went to E-mount for size and weight so it's quite important for me. If someone doesn't care about size Sigma is a clear choice. You didn't mention about CA - Sony can produce quite massive CA is contrast situation (purple fringing) while Sigma does a much better job.
@@rohanrawal3949 Im torn between what to choose in my glide shots the only thing lacks the sigma is the OSS, does the weight of sigma help to get more stabilize shots in my gimbal ? or it doesnt matter , I think the oss is a big help but sigma is much more cheap arrrggh i cant chooose :(
It's always difficult. I love the slightly warmer and "better" imagine from the sigma, but the Sony glass just works better with the Sony body. The autofocus with the Sony doesn't hunt as much as it does with the sigma, and the extra OSS pulls through as a security against jitters. Thank you so much for the review.
Upgrade to the latest firmware for the A6500 per Sony it improves this issue. Sony A6500 Firmware v.1.03 Supports new lens “SEL100400GM” [FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS] Optimizes image stabilization performance in movie mode
I bought first the 35mm f1.8. Then I heard of the Sigmas. I bought the 16mm. It delivered 1/5 of the images completely missfocussed images. Until f4 the lens is soft at the sides. So probably I’m not going to try another lens of this series. I have the Sigma 150-600mm and there it seems I was lucky to get a properly sharp copy.
I think I'll rock with the Sony because of the OSS because I can't see too big of a difference in video quality. When you place them side by side I can tell they're different but they both look pretty good 👌. I'll have to try watching on a larger screen to see if I change my mind.
I have both with my sony a6300 (which doesn't have any IBIS). I originally bought the sigma because of the better image, but its close to useable due to it turning everything to jittering jelly (and thats with a Zhiyun Crane!). It can really only be used on a tripod without hands. Had to move to the sony due to its OSS for moving shots. Just had to sacrifice 5% image quality.
I have an A6000 and a Feiyu AK2000 gimbal , I tried it with the kit lens OSS on and off , and OSS off looks very jittery and that what it looks like on the sigma but i love the sigma , would the sony 35mm be bang for the buck compared to sigma ? :((
I understand you wanted to use both at 1.8, but on the last test you should use the sigma at 1.4 not at 1.7 since you use the sony at it max capabilities, sigma shoulded be at it maximun capabilites too,...in my opinion.
I shoot with the A6500 which, obviously has IBIS. I purchased the 30mm f/1.4 simply because I found it from a local photographer and got a very good price. I am quite happy with it. Right now I'm shooting with the 12mm f/2 Rokinon; 30mm f/1.4 Sigma; 50mm f.1.8 Sony; and the great Sony 85mm f/1.8. I also have a 16mm f/2.8 Sony which is soon going the way of eBay and a 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Sony zoom which I love for family pix. I'd like a small lens to fit somewhere in between the 12mm and the 30mm and think that the Sigma 19mm f.2.8 might be my choice,,,
Thanks for the video. It was nice to see a comparison. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between the lenses as far as image quality goes. Great stuff!
SEL 35mm offers greater AF and stabilization It would be great if you have testing and comparison among Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8 versus other wide-angle lens or similar prime lens.
How will the combination of Sony a6500 + sigma 30mm f 1.4 perform for photography and videography??and whether the f stop value changes when keeping on autofocus for videography?
Which would you recommend for my a6300 shooting almost exclusively photos. I've mostly done street photography but have been exploring and trying new things. Going to the mountains, car shows, boudoir, night shots and everything in-between. But all I have is the kit lens and an old 50mm 1.7 I adapted from a Minolta film camera. I'm also looking for a more versatile telephoto lens but I think I'm getting a nice prime first.
+Zuriel Guillen Go with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN lens! It's semi-wide enough for street photography, but you can get great portrait shots when you're close to a subject. It's my favorite lens for the Sony a6000/a6300/a6500!
I’d definitely recommend sigma 30mm f1.4 over Sony 35, it’s more convenient and better in price, sigma is my choice for what I would prefer to myself. And thank you for your reviewing. Helpful and clear
I am using Sony A6400 (no IBIS) but I have a weebill S gimbal, should i get the sony or the sigma lens? I mostly shoot travel videos and little bit of photography. The Sony is little bit cheaper by 30$ here in Singapore.
It seems like if you're just shooting pics or mostly pics, get the Sigma, otherwise, it's not that easy. Since I shoot pics and video, reviews like yours are more and more pushing me towards the Sony. What I found interesting is that when everything is perfect then the sigma gets better pics/video, but if you get a little off and the Sony looks better. Since most of us don't have IBS and/or gimbals, I'm surprised the Sigmas are as popular as they are. Again, I get it for photography, but not so much for video, and I get it for the 16mm (the shorter the lens gets the less it matters), but again, for the 30mm I'm not so sure. If money was no object I'd probably get both and then see if I mostly carry one or if I can't do without one. I suspect that without constant side by side comparison I'd end up keeping the sony.
Man I'm really torn lol. I ended up grabbing the 35mm for OSS but really love the image quality the 30mm has. It's very comparable to the 18-35 which I use a lot.
I see a pattern here... my sigma 19 2.8 does the same as your sigma at minute 3:13... like hesitant in the autofocus while in movement. Did you noticed?
I was debating whether to get the sony 50mm 1.8 vs SIGMA 30 mm 1.4, and at the end of the day. I GOT THE 30 mm 1.4 for my a6400! its amazing! itsespecially for the price!!! Autofocus was still good on my camera. 50 mm 1.8 i feel like its too close... espeically for my crop sensor camera. Upgraded the firmware on the sigma lens... and manual focus is amazing!! For those aiming to buy a good lens under $350 and has a good aperture! In my situation and experiences, It served me well in low light and it has a nice creamy bokeh to it too. I personally use it for portaits and even landscape at times( although a wider angle lens is much preferable) I use this to VLOG sometimes!! HOWEVER those who are buying to buy this for a vlog type , I suggest going for the 16 mm f1.4! the 30 mm 1.4 is a bit too close! (45 mm on my a6400) but other than that! Im very impressed!!
LOL. I have been on the same path but didn't make a decision yet whether I should go for the a6500 or a6400. I really love the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and my worry is how it will perform in low light situations.
@@DKRacketIt just really depends on you! If your on a strict budget... I would still consider the a6400 (although it has NO IBIS). I bought mine for $898(US DOLLARS) body only. Tbh the a6500 and a6400 are essentially the same. I used both, but my a6500 broke a few months ago. (fell off a cliff LOL) I'll tell you my exeperience from replacing my broken a6500 to the a6400. So basically imo the a6400 is like the "improved version" of a6500 hahaha A6400 perks over the a6500: *faster autofocus and more accurate than the a7 series for autofocus *uses the newer processor chip *still has the slog profiles as a6300 and a6500 *NO MORE LIMIT on the 30 min 4k recording. I can record till my battery dies XDD (a6300 and a6500 has a limit) *and no more screen dimming when i shoot in 4k(a6500 when u shoot in 4k, the screen dims... which annoyed me) and the sigma 30 mm 1.4 in my case and in my opinion had really great low light performance. Don't expect the lens to be night vision beast xDD but overall at 1.4 i was able to get some good photos without boosting up my ISO. For $330-$350, I would defo buy this lens. Overall both cameras are great. I do miss IBIS, but im happy I was able to replace my BROKEN a6500 with the a6400. HOWEVER if I still have my a6500, i would not buy the a6400. Its basically the same features, except Sony took the problems of the a6500 and solved it in the a6400 :) I hope this helps. and whatever camera you choose, they are both good!
Great comparison! Curious if you think the 35mm with OSS is perhaps a better choice for someone with the a6300 (like me) since it has no in-body stabilization? I do shoot with a gimbal most of the time, but not always...
I'm getting into vlogging with short cinematic clips here and there with the A6300. I was looking for a run and gun lens that can help be with both scenarios. Do you think a 30mm/35mm will give me a wide enough angle for vlogging? It'll definitely help me in video quality and cinematic sequences but I'm just not sure if it'll work out for vlogging.
It can, but you'll need to have a tripod like the Joby GorillaPod to extend the reach of the camera further than your arm....unless you have really long arms, lol. I'ma actually going to do a review on a new tripod I love for vlogging, so check out for that soon!
I'm using the Sony lens on my a6400, and it's so awesome, but the Sigma, clearly, is equal parts awesome. I think like with any instrument, it's really more a matter of who's playing that guitar. :-) these are all incredible tools.
Which lens would you recommend (sony alpha 6400) for continuous photo shooting of karate/kickboxing tatami fights in Sporting halls? The location is right by the tatamis. Thank you for your answers.
I really like so much the sigma images but the OSS makes the difference. What do you think? Is it Worth to pay a little more "just" beacuse the stabilization? Thank for the great review!
i have a A6300 and i'm gonna work filming weddings, birthdays, night clubs, all low light enviroments. So, which it's better? this lenses.. or the sony 35mm 1.8 OSS? i really like the AF speed on the Sony lenses but they are more expensive. which one do i get?
I just bought a6500 and 35mm f1.8 few hours ago, can't wait to try it out.. Nice comparation.. My friend own a a6500 + sigma 30 f1.4, so I'm curious about the comparation, and video ia cool man.. Thanks
Hey Sidney, did you notice any noise (weird sound) on the Sony 35mm while "IBIS on" on the a6500? I experience that on my side. Not sure if it's simply a defect. I contacted Sony and they can't really tell me if it's normal or not :(
+Nicolas Huart Yeah, there's a very little hum, but only noticeable if you're filming in a room with no sound. If there's talking then you won't hear it. Hope this helps!
The comparisons here are mainly on shooting video, but I definitely wanna get one that'll be good for photo. The sigma lens does tend to have warmer tones than the Sony lens and would work quite well for photos -- just wanted to get more of your advice in this regard.
It seems that this is a handheld test. If you perform the same test with Sigma on a 3 axis gimbal without steadyshot, would you get less shake? Does the gimbal compensate the shake on sigma in 1/50 shutter? What is the best choice in terms of sharpness and focus tracking when using the lens on a gimbal?
I’ve heard the sigma lens auto focus is noisy. Can you attest to that one way or the other vs the Sony lens? Since I do a lot of weddings, I’ll mostly have a mic on the camera or on a mount near the camera ( handles of a gimbal)
I have IBIS, so what's the better travel lens? IMO, The 30mm gives the better field of view (scenery) & 2/3 stop better light, but the 35mm is smaller to travel with. omg FWPs.
One of the reviews said that the sigma 30 mm is not good for close ups as there is significant distortion... Would love to know your take on this ... Thanks and it was a beautiful review!
I know you tried to keep the aperture as close as possible on both to get an apples-to-apples comparison, but how is that Sigma lens when its stopped down to 1.4? They say some primes might not be as sharp at their widest aperture.
Hi, If I remember correctly(a few years ago now) the Sigma does not have OSS whereas the Sony has can you confirm this? How do you use the OSS on this Sigma lens? On another youtube review(in 2016) the reviewer prefers the Sony because of its focus accuracy on majority of the time whereas your review shows otherwise? From the above differences can we surmise Sigma has upgraded its lens to include OSS and improves its focus accuracy?
The Sony a6500 provides In-body image stabilization, so I'm able to use any lens to help stabilize my footage. This particular Sigma lens still does not have image stabilization. Hope this clarifies some things!
Should I buy an extra sigma 30mm lens if I already have sigma 16mm lens or I should go with a gimbal like zhiyon webbil S at similar price point which I don't have ?
I certainly preferred the Sony, seems to work with the camera better, sure the image quality was slightly better on the sigma, but id prefer something more reliable and it still looks great! Thanks for the video :)
I'll stick with the Sony just because of the OSS. Yes I know it's not gimbal steady, but I naturally don't have steady hands and do mostly video work. I rather have the annoying micro-jitteres subdued rather than deal with it in post.
Great Comparison!! I don't have a gimbal but I'm torn because the sigma quality looks superior! Is it worth going sigma and taking the loss with lack of stabilization opposed to the Sony?
Can I get away with the sigma and the a6100, for video, with the lack of oss, shooting handheld? I use the strap for tension and I have steady hands...but you know...its never perfect.
Just got an A6500 with the 18-105 f/4 Sony G. Now building my arsenal of primes. I want concentrate on photography only. And mostly portraits and street photography. I want to purchase the 35mm Sony or 30mm sigma. Which one would you pick?
Seriously the best comparison video ever for these lenses, Thank you soo much what do you think about Sigma 30 1.4 vs Sigma18-35 1.8 with MC adapter for videos mostly and photos as well? I heard so much positive feedback about this lens
+Orex Bayn Thanks! Both Sigma lenses are phenomenal! But the the Sigma 18-35mm will give you better image quality because it's an Art lens. The one thing I like about the Sigma 30mm is that it's smaller and lighter, as it's a perfect pair with the Sony a6500. Hope this helps!
I just got this lens and for some strange reason I can’t get it to focus? Close up shots when I physically move closer look nice but I can’t get a clear, sharp shot far away? Also, I don’t understand the focus ring? I am twisting it around and it seems like it just won’t focus. I’m super frustrated
I also read a lot of feedback or reviews from users on the internet stating that the Sigma 30mm 1.4 is noisy when auto-focusing, I was so torn in choosing the Sony 35mm or the Sigma 30mm, eventually I bought the Sigma and found out the autofocus sound is actually very minor
Great test video. I had a hard time telling the difference between the two when it comes to image quality. What things were you looking at that made you say the Sigma is clearly better?
Hi Sidney! Nice video! I also prefer the image of Sigma 30. But I have a doubt: in AF-C the engine is noisy? I use it especially for weddings and this can be a problem for recording a good sound. Thank you
It's not too noticeable. You shouldn't really rely on the internal mic of the camera anyway. You should always use an onboard mic or external recorder. Hope this helps!
Awesome video! So considering that the sigma doesn’t have OSS, will it be useful when pairing it with a sony a6000? And i want it for stills only, videos aren’t that important to me.. would love to hear your opinion before jumping & buying it
The a6500 is way out of my reach lol.. i guess i’ll go with the Sony 35mm 1.8 then, even though i really wanted that 1.4 aperture for better low light photos.. + yesss it really helped! Thanks a lot mate.
Great video. I'm debating between 2 of these lenses and which to get. If I'm using a Sony A6000 with the Sigma 30 mm, wouldn't that be too shaky for still pictures? The good thing about the Sony 35 mm is that it has OSS which prevent hand shake for still pictures.
Hey man! I grabbed the Tiffen 77mm linked in your description to use with the sigma. I'm guessing you use step down rings right?! I grabbed them too, but have zero clue if I messed up or not.
In the link, you can actually choose which size filter you want. For the Sigma 30mm, it's the 52mm. Alternatively, yes you can use the 77mm with STEP-UP rings. 77mm is more universal, so if you buy more lenses, just get that particular step-up ring to connect the lens with the filter. Excited you got the filter! It's a great one!
Sidney Diongzon ah awesome! Thanks my man - I'm guessing you use the 77 too?! Also any tips for using the A6500 outside when shooting 4k man?! The monitor is so hard to see and I feel I've missed a setting (as my A7Sii is fine) Excited for more journals man!
The monitor on the a6500 is definitely hard to see in the day. The screen actually dims in 4K, probably to compensate from overheating. I would suggest either using the viewfinder and get an eyecup, or get an external monitor like a SmallHD 501/502. I plan to get one at some point, and I'll do a review on that!
This is an awesome review/comparison! I've been debating wether to get the Sony or Sigma for a while now and the only thing tipping me over to the Sony was the OSS but now that I got a Gimbal I'm gonna go with the Sigma. It definitely yields a better picture in my opinion!
Thank you very much! Yeah, with a gimbal the Sigma 30mm is a no brainer! Congrats on your purchase! Keep shooting!
Thank you! This is by far the best comparison video I've seen so far btw. Really glad I found it!
Cheers! Thanks so much!
Hey. just want to say that I was in the same thoughts as you and I went for sigma.

The Sigma 30mm got a new firmware in Fev/2018 that upgraded the Manual Focus adjustment. I liked better now than before.
Was I the only one who noticed all that extra shake in the Sigma lens?
+Richard Sumilang You're totally right, the Sigma will have a slight shake since it's not a lens with image stabilizer
+Richard Sumilang Yeah
it is a6500 stabilization issue,
I juts did a comment about that... apparently is not just that lens... my 19 2.8 does the same while in movement in autofocus and my sony lenses don't

Sigma was continuously jittering while touch screen test...
i thought so
Thanks Sid, even after 3 years this comparison is so useful!
Still useful 3 years after 3 years :)

So basically imo the a6400 is like the "improved version" of a6500 hahaha
A6400 perks over the a6500:
*faster autofocus and more accurate than the a7 series for autofocus
*uses the newer processor chip
*still has the slog profiles as a6300 and a6500
*NO MORE LIMIT on the 30 min 4k recording. I can record till my battery dies XDD (a6300 and a6500 has a limit)
*and no more screen dimming when i shoot in 4k(a6500 when u shoot in 4k, the screen dims... which annoyed me)
and the sigma 30 mm 1.4 in my case and in my opinion had really great low light performance.
Its basically the same features, except Sony took the problems of the a6500 and solved it in the a6400 :)
I hope this helps. and whatever camera you choose, they are both good!
Did you use A6500 with SteadyShot on? In this test
Thank you! Can I use speedbooster with sony 6500 and get autofocus working in video mode?
+andivax Not sure. I haven't tried the speed booster with the a65"0. I would assume so!
Thanks for another great video...For the a6500 in which OSS is not an issue, which one offers better image quality...? Thanks for your time
I prefer the 35mm... IBS/OSS is EVERYTHING when it comes to video especially shots that you want to shoot handheld.
Great comparison! Curious if you think the 35mm with OSS is perhaps a better choice for someone with the a6300 (like me) since it has no in-body stabilization? I do shoot with a gimbal most of the time, but not always...
I would say so! Having OSS is so helpful!
I was about to go with sigma and considering a future gimbal.... but that comment makes me think again haha@@SidneyDiongzon
But what about when I get a full frame Sony? 🤔 I already have the 50mm f1.8 FE, but want something wider with nice bokeh...
I'ma actually going to do a review on a new tripod I love for vlogging, so check out for that soon!
looking forward to that review then!
I'm using the Sony lens on my a6400, and it's so awesome, but the Sigma, clearly, is equal parts awesome. I think like with any instrument, it's really more a matter of who's playing that guitar. :-) these are all incredible tools.
As a guitar player, you said it accurately 😁
@@sitiimanina Amen my friend.
Between the Sigma 30 mm f/1.4 and Sony 50 mm f/1.8, which should be the beginner prime lens for street photography & portrait/candid photos?
I have the 35mm sony but I want the sigma. I just can't justify getting the 30mm when I already have the 35mm. It's so damned frustrating.
I mean there is not whole a lot of difference. Plus you get OSS in Sony!
Plus Sony is so compact and travel friendly
Which lens would you recommend (sony alpha 6400) for continuous photo shooting of karate/kickboxing tatami fights in Sporting halls? The location is right by the tatamis. Thank you for your answers.
I really like so much the sigma images but the OSS makes the difference. What do you think? Is it Worth to pay a little more "just" beacuse the stabilization? Thank for the great review!
Well, I personally would choose image quality over image stabilization.
Perhaps an unstable image lacks quality in that regard?
Thanks for helping me decide which lens to get. Auto focus means nothing if the picture is not crisp. Good pictures is what the client wants.
I’m glad this was helpful!!
i have a A6300 and i'm gonna work filming weddings, birthdays, night clubs, all low light enviroments. So, which it's better? this lenses.. or the sony 35mm 1.8 OSS? i really like the AF speed on the Sony lenses but they are more expensive.
which one do i get?
+Daniel Salazar For low light, the Sigma 30mm for sure! And it performs just as fast as sony lenses! (Maybe just a hair Soler)
I have a6300 new guy in photography please help which one outta these two or any other for day to day shooting family n streets n mountain hikes etc
I just bought a6500 and 35mm f1.8 few hours ago, can't wait to try it out.. Nice comparation.. My friend own a a6500 + sigma 30 f1.4, so I'm curious about the comparation, and video ia cool man.. Thanks
+Tri Sutrisno You've got a great combo, and you'll have fun filming with it! Thanks for watching man!
If you can have only one len for a6300 to shoot photo and video will you choose sigma 30mm 1.4?
Probably yeah! That's how I started!
@@SidneyDiongzon thanks
Hey Sidney, did you notice any noise (weird sound) on the Sony 35mm while "IBIS on" on the a6500? I experience that on my side. Not sure if it's simply a defect. I contacted Sony and they can't really tell me if it's normal or not :(
+Nicolas Huart Yeah, there's a very little hum, but only noticeable if you're filming in a room with no sound. If there's talking then you won't hear it. Hope this helps!
Thanks Sidney!
The comparisons here are mainly on shooting video, but I definitely wanna get one that'll be good for photo. The sigma lens does tend to have warmer tones than the Sony lens and would work quite well for photos -- just wanted to get more of your advice in this regard.
+Pauline Macapagal If its photography you're looking for, then I would highly recommend the Sigma 30mm. It's simply a sharper lens!
Thank you for the quick response!
Pinay?
It seems that this is a handheld test. If you perform the same test with Sigma on a 3 axis gimbal without steadyshot, would you get less shake? Does the gimbal compensate the shake on sigma in 1/50 shutter? What is the best choice in terms of sharpness and focus tracking when using the lens on a gimbal?
I had the sigma 30mm 2.8 just got a deal on the Sony 35 for under 300 bucks hoping it's worth the upgrade!
Sounds like a great deal!
I’ve heard the sigma lens auto focus is noisy. Can you attest to that one way or the other vs the Sony lens? Since I do a lot of weddings, I’ll mostly have a mic on the camera or on a mount near the camera ( handles of a gimbal)
It’s a little bit noisy, but if you have a mic you won’t hear it
Hi, How did you get the Sigma to AF. I have been trying to get it to AF on a A6000, and it is no where as fast as in your test.
and in sharpness, what is sharper than Sigma 30mm vs Sigma 18-35mm?
absolutly sigma 30mm
Sidney - could you share your autofocus settings for these lenses. Both lenses seem to have a faster autofocus then my Sony Distagon 35mm F1.4 e-mount
+John Kaufi Sure! My AF settings were the following (AF speed: Fast, AF Drive: Responsive). Hope this helps!
Thank you, bro. Much appreciated!
What is your 'Focus Area' setting?
For a6300 owners without ibis, is the sony 35 a better choice? How much sharper is the sigma?
John Smith sigma 25-30% sharper
which have the most blurry background or bokeh wide open?
I have IBIS, so what's the better travel lens? IMO, The 30mm gives the better field of view (scenery) & 2/3 stop better light, but the 35mm is smaller to travel with. omg FWPs.
One of the reviews said that the sigma 30 mm is not good for close ups as there is significant distortion... Would love to know your take on this ... Thanks and it was a beautiful review!
I haven’t found that at all
@@SidneyDiongzon Ok thanks !
I know you tried to keep the aperture as close as possible on both to get an apples-to-apples comparison, but how is that Sigma lens when its stopped down to 1.4? They say some primes might not be as sharp at their widest aperture.
+RyoHazuki224 It's definitely sharp at f/1.4. I shoot most my videos at f/1.4
Hi,
If I remember correctly(a few years ago now) the Sigma does not have OSS whereas the Sony has can you confirm this?
+CJamesPhoto Thanks for watching!!
Sidney Diongzon Anytime, your content rocks, something id love to achieve on my videos, Im subscribing for sure!
I'll stick with the Sony just because of the OSS. Yes I know it's not gimbal steady, but I naturally don't have steady hands and do mostly video work. I rather have the annoying micro-jitteres subdued rather than deal with it in post.
What about the Sony 28mm 2.0? I've heard it's even better than the sigma, what do you think of it?
+greesly Haven't tested that lens out myself yet. Maybe one day!
Great Comparison!! I don't have a gimbal but I'm torn because the sigma quality looks superior! Is it worth going sigma and taking the loss with lack of stabilization opposed to the Sony?
Thanks! I'd say it's worth trying the Sigma 30mm by itself. If you still feel like you need steadier shots, then get a gimbal! Hope this helps!
Thank you! Big help gonna get the sigma
+Andre M Awesome! Excited for you!
+Amlan Mitra Go with the Sigma 30mm! Much sharper than the Sony 35mm
At the same cash you can get more great sensor of Sony s7m2 with stabilization and amazing FF portraits with Sony 85mm 1.8
For photography, which one is better?
Sigma fo sho!
Thank you Infonya. I will take the Sigma. Just the problem the lens is somewhat heavy
Seriously the best comparison video ever for these lenses, Thank you soo much
what do you think about Sigma 30 1.4 vs Sigma18-35 1.8 with MC adapter for videos mostly and photos as well?
I use an A6300 with a Zhiyun Crane gimbal, which lens would you prefer for video?
For the a6300, I'd go with the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS. Hope this helps!
Even when using a gimbal?
Using a gimbal would definitely change that!
I have the a5100, would the Sony 35mm be better for stabilization? I am more of a photo person
+Katherine Kwok Not necessarily since you’d be shooting at a higher shutter speed. The OSS is really helpful for videos.
Hugh Jackman FTW
+YCImaging Haha, yep!
YCImaging what is FTW?
+M.Faisal Yumarta For The Win :)
Sidney Diongzon thanks:)
I immediately clicked on like when I saw the Hugh jackman, love such humour (:
And subbed.
What about the manual focus of the sigma? I heard it's terrible...
Yeah, it's pretty bad.
I have read that the auto focus on the Sigma is very noisy. . Did you hear this in your tests?
Not true. There is very slight noise for autofocus, but not too noticeable in my footage.
Awesome, thanks. I mainly use the camera for scratch audio anyway
Yep, very minor!
Yep, 100% right!
Hi can you do the yongnuo YN 35mm f/2 S DF DSM for sony e-mount lens review
yes sigma's footage is shaking more, but a6500 has a inbuilt image stabilization right?
+Rick Record Yep!
so do you know why sigma lens still shake?!
Really nice video review by the way!
The Sigma lens isn't shaky...it's the user. I often shoot in slow motion which prevents that unwanted shakiness. Hope this helps!
Great test video. I had a hard time telling the difference between the two when it comes to image quality. What things were you looking at that made you say the Sigma is clearly better?
Pretty sold on the sigma. But, i use an a6300. Would you recommend it? I use a zhiyun crane.
Definitely! Especially if you have the Zhiyun Crane!
+XenatR I'd probably go with the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS. The OSS will work perfectly for your a6300. Hope this helps!
Hi Sidney!
And i want it for stills only, videos aren’t that important to me.. would love to hear your opinion before jumping & buying it
Depends on how steady your hands are! Ideally, the a6500 is a great pair with the Sigma 30mm because of the camera's IBIS. Hope this helps!
The a6500 is way out of my reach lol.. i guess i’ll go with the Sony 35mm 1.8 then, even though i really wanted that 1.4 aperture for better low light photos..
+ yesss it really helped! Thanks a lot mate.
Glad this was helpful!
I want to use the sigma lens for video, does it make a sound when autofocus? I mean, can you hear it on the video?
Great video. I'm debating between 2 of these lenses and which to get. If I'm using a Sony A6000 with the Sigma 30 mm, wouldn't that be too shaky for still pictures? The good thing about the Sony 35 mm is that it has OSS which prevent hand shake for still pictures.
If you have the a6000, I would go with the Sony 35mm for the OSS. It's gonna help you so much!
Sidney Diongzon thank you so much for your help
Great video.were thos image stabilization tests handheld or with gimbal?
Hello. Sigma doesnt have stabilization build inside? How did You achive not shaky video with sigma?
+biker_matt The Sony a6500 IBIS is pretty powerful and can help stabilize pretty much any lens.
aaa ok. a6500 have sensor stabilization? I compared with my a6000 that doen't have i think....
+biker_matt No, only the a6500 has it!
Great video, love that you show a wide range of comparisons and you get straight to the point!
+Deepak Sharma Thanks so much!
If you get the step-up ring, get the 52mm to 77mm filter size. I added a link in my description too for your convenience :)
Sidney Diongzon ah awesome! Thanks my man - I'm guessing you use the 77 too?!
Also any tips for using the A6500 outside when shooting 4k man?! The monitor is so hard to see and I feel I've missed a setting (as my A7Sii is fine)
Excited for more journals man!
Sidney Diongzon I got the smallHD guess I'll have to use it all the time then - you won't regret it man, best purchase of last year for the Sony!
How Did you achieve super slomo at 24 fps? Please HELP?
Export in 4k
Sidney Diongzon ahh i see 1080 upscaled to 4k, thanks for clarifying my confusion bro! :)
hi, I have a sony a6100 camera without stabilization, what do you think is a better lens for me? (I focus mainly on photography)
Great video.
How do these compare for handheld photography when not having IBIS (I have the 6300)?
If you shoot at a fast enough shutter speed you should be ok
will a 16mm paired with a 30( or 35)mm be too close? maybe get a 50/56 instead of 35mm?
On a tripod and live streaming, which one is the best sigma 30mm 1.4 or SONY 35mm 1.8?
Is sigma shakey for photos? I own an a6000 and only use it for taking photos not videos.
For the a6000, maybe. Just make sure to increase your shutter so that taking photos are a lot faster
Thank you. I'll probably go with the sigma because it is sharper and has warmer colors. I'm so excited to get one.
