Thanks for the video! I was actually torn between these two lenses, and I know that the Art version of Sigma lenses are legendary among the many photography communities online. I had to make what I originally thought was a tough call and buy the 30mm 1.4 DC DN, and I honestly couldn't be happier with my decision. It's a beautiful lens, and far, far more affordable than the art variant. The bokeh on the art variant is very nice, but I can't justify spending over three times the amount I paid for the 30mm on a slightly different flavor of bokeh (among other small things).
This helps a bunch! Im in a hunch between getting Sigma contemporary (30mm) or the ART (35mm) + a speed booster set up for my gh5. Still a tough choice if not worried about pricing and more about performance cause the results are so similar! But when looking at the pricing it's a no brainer to go with the contemporary glass if trying to save money.
Thank you so much for this video! I just recieved a grant from my university to make a youtube web series about sexual education. I plan to use a Sony a6500 and the sigma lenses! Without your reviews, I wouldn't have been able to decide which one to purchse
using the sigma 30mm on Crop, you will get 45mm eqv at 24mp, using the 35mm on Full Frame (sony a7-a7iii) you will get 35mm at 24mp. Using the 30mm on full frame in crop mode you will get 45mm at only 10mp. But the 35mm on the crop body you will get 52.5mm at 24mp. Hence the reason im getting the 35 to get full Mp usage on full frame. I already have the 30mm and it is still a monster on crop or full frame.
Sigma lenses give the Fujifilm X-T3 like profiles on certain Sony e mount cameras! I posted some samples on the subject on my RUclips channel using the SIgma 16mm DC DC f 1.4 Lens on the Sony a6500.
would it be because the 5mm difference makes the 35mm art more bokehlicious? just wondering, coz the closer you get, it might have a much smoother bokeh? Im really torn in choosing between the 2 lenses :( cant decide
Yeah exactly the 5mm difference does increase a little the bokeh and the illusion of being more on focus because it closer to the subjet. Syaing that the art could still be altitle sharper on other test but i dont think its that of a huge difference for the price difference!
Great video, this will help a lot for many other people. But in my eyes the difference isn't groundbreaking. Of course the Art series is a little bit better, because that's also what you pay for. But i'm fine with both my 30mm and 56mm contemporary series lenses for my Sony A6000.
Sad not to exist the sigma 30mm F / 1.4 ART e-mount :( Only, A-mount, Canon and Nikon for what I researched .... The 30mm art seems to be a good lens, lighter and more discreet :) Good reviews, quality of their reviews are very good! I'm currently filming with a Nikon D3300, but I'm almost buying an A6500, but I just do not have $ for good starting lenses ... I think I'll buy a manual adapter, and wear Nikkor and Tokina lenses. Again, good comparative video!
Is there a possibility for you to do some reviews comparing Speed Booster (Metabones VS parallel brand viltrox, etc ...) on the sony a6300 or a6500? Just a suggestion ... of course ... totally manual use pq af never works well with these adapters, some do not even have this option, doubt is even with regard to quality and flares ...
If I get my hands on those adapters, I definitely will! Although, based on my friends' experience, the Metabones Speedbooster is the solid choice! Plus, they just added a recent firmware update to to enhance the autofocus. Hope this helps!
cool :) But it would be interesting to make a comparison to a first line adapter like Metabones, against the low cost, because the difference in cost is striking, especially here in Brazil, are high import taxes, where ends every 50, 100 dollars make a huge Difference in the end. Maybe even have reviews out there, but not with quality of comparison that you do in similar and very explanatory situations. Anyway, good work bro :)
I agree with Weylles. Cost versus benefit is important. Any shortcomings of a lens has a work around. Learn how to use the old techniques to eliminate what we used to call "Camera shake" (Bracing straps, elbow on lamppost, putting tool down etc}. That will reduce need for OSS, IBIS etc. which make cameras and lenses bulkier, heavier, more fragile and a lot more expensive.
Very nice review! I noticed that the AF ont he 30MM is slight a bit better. I was wondering though, do they have any kind of noise while focussing? I am on the verge of buying the 30MM as well. Just hoping that there won't be much noise.
There is a slight noise, but not noticeable unless you're in a room with no sound at all. I usually film with a Rode VideoMic Pro or other external recorder, and I never hear any AF sound with those options. Hope this helps!
Love this little series you got going here! I lost it when you blurred the banana logo hahaha! Anyways some great quality content here, keep up with these videos man :)
I would not even consider paying 3 times the amount for a lens that does not out perform the other by at least twice as much. I would be happy to take wedding shots all day with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN Lens over the Art! It is just not cost effective, mind you when it comes to Lens Snobbery then we have to have the Art don't we?
Great test - which one would you recommend for my brand new shiny Sony a6300? I’ve currently got the kit lens, but looking to get the 30 or 35 mm for portraits, the 16mm for street photography and architecture, and the 50mm for a kind of macro/portrait lens (it’ll be at about 75 on the camera)?
@@Weird_Quests Neither of them got OSS. If you plan on going to Fullframe (A7III or sth) I would buy the 35mm, if you will stay with APS-C go for the 30mm
Hey, i'm watching this video in a lecture, so sadly I didn't hear what you said, was just looking at the sample shots. I read through some comments and saw you replied to a lot of them. You said that you love the look of the Sigmas, so do I. I'm looking to get a Nikon D5500/5600 together with 2 lenses for travel and sport (especially ski) pictures & video. I'm quite certain I'll get a 30mm for city photography and things where i move around a lot. However I'm struggling to figure out what kind of lens I'd need for sport & landscape photography. What kind of focal length is reasonable here? is 140mm enough? Do I go 200/300mm? Despite not hearing what you where saying the video looked really nice and well shot. I'll leave a sub :)
Haha, I love that you're watching RUclips videos during a lecture! For sports, the longer the focal length the better! I'd go with the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | S. You'll get sharp photos and a really far reach. For landscapes, I'd wait for the new Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | A. It's incredibly wide without distortion, and of course is an Art lens. At the same time, if you're looking a lens that will do both, just get Sigma 24-105. It's the perfect all-around lens to cover sport and photography. You can always go the Sigma website and go through their lens library. They have a good system of categorizing which lens you'll need based on what you want to shoot. Hope this helps!
Haha, now that I'm home I'll watch it with sound. Awesome thanks for the quick reply. Sadly the 120-300 is sliiiightly out of my price range. Whats the advantage of the 24-105 over a 18-200? Is there another difference to them else than the 'F'? I've heard that the pictures kind of bend when shooting wide with those lenses. Considering shooting on snow is usually super bright anyways does the 'F' still matter as much? I spent so much time looking at what camera to get that I still have no idea what all those lenses are.
The only advantage the 24-105mm has is that it's focal range is a good all-around range for most shoots. Plus, it's a sharp lens! I haven't seen much distortion at widest focal length, but you can always adjust that in Lightroom. And when you're shooting in snow, you'll probably want to shoot at F/11 anyway since it's so bright! Look up "Chase Jarvis Ski Photography" on RUclips. He gives a pretty tutorial on how to shoot sports photography in the snow. Hope this helps dude!
is that sigma 35mm art for canon using mc-11? or just sigma 35 art for sony?. because i thinking of buying sigma 35mm art for canon with MC-11 for my sony a6500 and 5d (so i can using that lens on both camera). what do you think? thanks for the video.
Sidney Diongzon but if i have a good gimbal that wont be a much problem? Right Is it only the IBIS that made you not to mention a6400 for the 30mm sigma?
I'm having sigma 16mm f1.4 and sony e 50mm f1.8, and now l'm thinking to add this sigma 30mm f1.4 into my collection for travel photography. However some says 16mm is able to do the job quite well instead of 30mm. What's your opinion?
Thanks for your Comparison. I like your videos. Interesting to see the Diferences of the Lenses. I work with a A6300 and I think since a few weeks that the 30mm would be a good investment for great shots. I want to use it on a Steadycam. Is it a problem that the Lens have no stabilizer?
+3nnso Thanks! If you're using a Steadicam, then it wouldn't matter if the lens has stabilizer or not. I use a Glidecam, so it doesn't to me. I used the Sigma 30mm on the a6300 (before I bought my a6500) and it was awesome!
Ok thank you for your fast answer. I thought maybe to buy the Sony 35mm 1.8, but i like the quality of the sigma 30mm 1.4 much more. So i will buy the sigma i think.
Excuse my ignorance but, if I were to purchase one of these lenses, I would need the MC-11 adapter? I noticed some of these are advertised “for Sony E Mount”; I’m assuming that’s describing said adapter? Thanks
Omg, Sidney, you'll love it! I don't mind the weight of it at all to be honest. I know the 85 G-Master from Sony is lighter, but the Sigma feels awesomely built.
Hi. Great videos. Thanks so much for sharing! Sorry if this is a daft question. There is also a Sigma 30mm f1.4 native emount lens (i.e. use without mc11). Do you know if that's the same lens you're testing here, and if so what difference the mc11 makes to the AF performance? Or have I got very confused!
You're right, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN I used here is the native e-mount lens. The "DN" means it's a native Sony lens. The AF performance with the MC-11 adapters is good, but is slightly slower than the native Sony version. Hope this helps!
Great VID as always man.. Can u send me a link for a nd filter for my 16-50 kit lens for a6500 that light filming outside is a pain for my vlogging VIDs
There's no good filters to fit that particular lens, so you'll have to get a step-up ring (40.5mm to 52mm) from Amazon. Then get the ND filter (52mm) from my description link! Hope this helps!
great video as always. was looking at purchasing the 30mm 1.4 because of your review but I would be able to get my hands on the sony 24mm 1.8. There is an obvious price difference but do you know how is the 24mm for video?
+416 Dentistry I haven't used the 24mm yet, so I can't really say. I will say this though, I specifically chose the Sigma 30mm because I love the look of Sigma lenses, and the 30mm turns into 48mm (full-frame) which is close to the look of a 50mm lens. I love the look of that focal length because it's as close to what the human eye sees. Always go for a lens that has a distinct look that matches your visual style. Hope that helps!
love the 30 f1.4 ... such a great lens and insane price ... however, i've just gotten rid of my a6500 and is now on a7ii ... what good substitutes should i get for the 30 f1.4 that does not break the bank?
There is a new lens coming out by Rokinon. It's a 35mm and it's about $400. Otherwise, Sony 35mm will run you around $1600. Check out that Rokinon! Hope this helps!
May i ask, im using a Sony A-mount camera. Then is there a Sigma 30f14 for A-mount ? If yes, how can recognize for A-mount and for E-mount ? Thanks a lot
Thanks for the comparison, Sidney. You're always on spot with your videos. Have you tried the 30mm 1.4 on a sony a7 series or any other full frame sensor? I've been searching all over the place if you can use the inbody super 35mm to remove vignetting.
You’re awesome. Thanks for your fast answer but am I asking for much if I request a sample image/video? That would really help me decide if I will buy it or not. I’m also looking for the 10-18 f4 which in turn would be cropped to a 15-27 in super 35 mode.
I would be hesitant to spend for instance 600 dollars on a crappy lens that doesnt produce sharp images, but i'd be extremely eager to pay 1400 dollars for a good lens that produces incredibly sharp images.
How can we make a comparative video to show the sharpness of 2 lenses if the focus is not made exactly at the same place on the 2 pictures intended to be compared... ?!!?
Sweet thank you :) because i'd like to be able to take sick photos and awesome videos with my Sony A6000 and i dont think my kit lens cuts it quite good enough :P I read about the Bokeh on websites saying the sigmas bokeh isnt very good but watching this video comparison of both i think that its absolutely awesome! thanks for the informative video!!
Never been that impressed with the sigma 30mm. its got horrible chromatic aberation and its autofocus unreliabilty problems. hope they did better with the ART lens. what i want to see is a side by side with the sigma 30mm ART. I really like the 35mm ART but not sure its worth the high price??
Sidney i have a question for you..Does the sharpness of this lens decreases if used on an APSC sensor?

This video is very informative! Kudos to you! Since you have both lenses, do you think that even a lens that has OSS such 35mm combined with the a6500 (IBIS), it's still going to be shaky? No such big difference?
+Nikolás Hasif Thanks! The OSS and IBIS is such a good combo to smooth your handheld shots! The IBIS is good enough by itself, but if you add the OSS from the lens, then it's even better!
Nikolás Hasif I have that combination , (sony a6500 and 35mm f1.8) and I still get some shake so I'm looking into getting a gimbal. Honestly I would have just gotten one of these lenses in the video if I would have known it wasn't gonna be that stable :/

EXACTLY what I was looking for. Needed help deciding. 30mm it is!
2 questions, is this IBIS really that bad on the a6500?!
2nd, random but why did you blur the label on the bananas? Haha
It normally isn't, but for some reason it turned out the way it did, lol. And I just wanted to have fun with the censor blur...no real reason, lol.

Very good video to understand the difference Bro thanks!!❤
For the price, I think the 30mm is a better deal.
+fractal_force Yep! Totally agree!
Is it just me or I think with all the camera and lens advancements, staying with crop size sensor like Canon 7d Mark II is not a bad deal.
+fractal_force You're totally right! It's all about how you use the camera!
I've really like my Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN on my Sony A6300. I'd buy it again if I needed to. It gives a lot of bang for the buck.
Great lens!
thank you this was very helpful. Mind made up going with the 30mm for my A 6000 getting rid of the kit lens.
the 30 is for crop and the 35 for full frame?
Awesome! Stylish!!
would it be because the 5mm difference makes the 35mm art more bokehlicious? just wondering, coz the closer you get, it might have a much smoother bokeh? Im really torn in choosing between the 2 lenses :( cant decide
No, not really. The difference is the lens quality. The ART lenses will always be better!
they said that the manual focusing with the 30mm sucks, is it true?
Yeah pretty much :(
The 30mm 1.4 Art is alot better than the non art version, you should check that one out
Yeah exactly the 5mm difference does increase a little the bokeh and the illusion of being more on focus because it closer to the subjet. Syaing that the art could still be altitle sharper on other test but i dont think its that of a huge difference for the price difference!
can you compare to sigma 18-35mm 1.8?...
Maybe one day!
Really it would be interesting
wouldn't you say the sigma 30mm , because it's wider, can get closer to the subject and hence gives shallower depth of filed?
You definitely can! It all depends on how you use each lens though. I can get macro shots with any lens by whacking it

what happens sigma 30mm dc dn use with sony a7iii full frame ?
Goes into crop mode (1.5x crop factor)
Hi ! Thank's for test! Please tell me what is af sensitivity was on 6500?
Responsive. Thanks for watching!
Excuse my ignorance but, if I were to purchase one of these lenses, I would need the MC-11 adapter? I noticed some of these are advertised “for Sony E Mount”; I’m assuming that’s describing said adapter? Thanks
Well, there's actually a NEW Sony version of the Sigma 35mm Art lens, so you don't need to get an adapter anymore!
You used these lens with which camera? Thanks! :)
YESS! I haven't tested the 30mm yet, but I fell in love with both the 85 1.4 and 35 1.4!
+Joshua Luciano Awesome! I've yet to try the 85mm, but hope to soon!
Omg, Sidney, you'll love it! I don't mind the weight of it at all to be honest. I know the 85 G-Master from Sony is lighter, but the Sigma feels awesomely built.
+Joshua Luciano That's cool. I've been loving the results that people have posted!
do you need the adapter to use the 1.4 art?
Yes! The MC-11 works great, except that it’s really noisy
Hey Sidney, I'm looking into a variable ND filter, would you recommend the Tiffen Variable ND filter you used for this?
+WILLIS NG Absolutely!
2022 upsate. Im using the sigma 30mm in full frame mode on the a7IV and its awesome.
what about this lens and what is Contemporary Lens means ?
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon EF-M Mount
Thanks so much for speedy response! Wouls you say the IQ is similar? As far as I can tell the Sony mount version comes out higher in DxO mark.
+Gabriel Gilson Yeah definitely. I don't really care about DxO mark tests...I just go with results.
What would happen if you put the 30mm on a FF sony camera??
You would get a tiny image with a chunk of your frame seeing inside the barrel of the lens.
Sidney Diongzon ok I see. What 30/35 wide ish prime would you recommend for the a7rii?
Probably the Zeiss 35
Sidney Diongzon thanks anything more budget friendly or at least faster?
Not in that category. At least not until the Sigma lenses come out later this year
great video as always. was looking at purchasing the 30mm 1.4 because of your review but I would be able to get my hands on the sony 24mm 1.8.
Sidney Diongzon great stuff. thanks for the pro tip. Enjoy your day and keep up producing the amazing content.
+416 Dentistry Thank you! Let me know if you have any other questions!
So I am new to Sony. Do I need a lens adapter to use the sigma 30 1.4 or 1.4 art on an a6500?
For the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN Len, no adapter. For the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART, yes you will need an adapter. Hope this helps!
Would the sigma 30mm be good for video use?
Yep! Most of my shots were with the Sigma 30mm because of the f/1.4!
love the 30 f1.4 ... such a great lens and insane price ... however, i've just gotten rid of my a6500 and is now on a7ii ... what good substitutes should i get for the 30 f1.4 that does not break the bank?
+Narudh Areesorn I'd go for the Sony 85mm 1.8. It's a little more expensive, but such a good lens especially for the A72!
Sidney Diongzon i'm planning to get that but i'm looking to get something in the normal / slightly wide focal range
There is a new lens coming out by Rokinon. It's a 35mm and it's about $400. Otherwise, Sony 35mm will run you around $1600. Check out that Rokinon! Hope this helps!
Sidney Diongzon Rokinon is interesting their lenses are sharp but it's 2.8 😣
+Narudh Areesorn Yeah, otherwise get the MC-11 adapter and get a Canon 35mm!
Hey Sidney, how do you like the 35 art for stills on the mc11? How is af?
I LOVE IT! That Sigma 35mm Art is one of the sharpest lenses I’ve ever owned!
IMO, because we see in FullHD, so I see no different. I will choose Sigma 30 is enough. Thank you
Great video Sidney and thanks for the thorough review and hard work! Btw...what bag is it?
Thanks! It's the ThinkTank Airport Essentials backpack. I'll be doing a review on it soon!
Looking forward to that. Thx mate!
May i ask, im using a Sony A-mount camera. Then is there a Sigma 30f14 for A-mount ? If yes, how can recognize for A-mount and for E-mount ? Thanks a lot
No, this specific lens is designed for APS-C e-mount Sony bodies.
Thanks for the comparison, Sidney. You're always on spot with your videos. Have you tried the 30mm 1.4 on a sony a7 series or any other full frame sensor? I've been searching all over the place if you can use the inbody super 35mm to remove vignetting.
Yes, I've used the 30mm on a full-frame body, and it's still pretty good in crop mode! Thanks for watching!
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the video... Which would you recommend for video (mainly music videos) that will compliment the 18-35mm??
I think the 18-35 you already have is good enough!
Thanks... What about a prime?! Should I at least have one like say the Sigma 50mm?
Possibly. That or an 85mm
Sidney Diongzon thanks a lot for the help...
How can we make a comparative video to show the sharpness of 2 lenses if the focus is not made exactly at the same place on the 2 pictures intended to be compared... ?!!?
Great review mister! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for watching!
i'm stuck between Sigma 30mm 1.4 dc dn or sigma 30mm 2.8 dn i dont know what one to pick :( the 30mm 2.8 is cheaper but idk about their performance
+Sammy Jane I don't know about the Sigma 2.8, but the Sigma 1.4 is a killer performer!
+Sammy Jane Glad I could help!
I wish you had addressed manual focusing, heard there were some problem in that regard.
Thanks for your video, I love it
Thank you so much!
Does this work for a Sony a7iii?
Great video but...that Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN in Sony a6000 will be 48mm ? (30mm x 1.6 aps-c) ?
+GreenoSky Yep! Exactly right
hmmm but a6300 is aps-c so ... when you test sony 35mm 1.8 OSS ( lens for aps-c sensor) and this lens. Sigma is wider like sony. Why ?
+GreenoSky The Sigma is a 30mm. The Sony is a 35mm. So the Sigma will be 5mm wider.
But in a6000 will be 48mm, in a6300 30mm ? it is the same sensor ;)
+GreenoSky The Sony a6000/a6300/a6500 are all APS-C cameras
How does this performs on a full frame sony like a7r2?
How does this compare to the 32mm 1.8 zeiss touit?
No idea, haven't tried that lens specifically.
What music track is this, tried your link on soundstrip but couldn't find it, Thanks
Totally forgot it's been a while
@@SidneyDiongzon is this the song name?
lol luv the kitty cat response. great comparison
Never been that impressed with the sigma 30mm. its got horrible chromatic aberation and its autofocus unreliabilty problems. hope they did better with the ART lens. what i want to see is a side by side with the sigma 30mm ART. I really like the 35mm ART but not sure its worth the high price??
30 mm almost 1/3 price from 35mm. That's full frame prices. For home and more, crop is best option. TY for nice side by side comp.
the shaking just like a6300?
+art Jard Nope! The IBIS really helps
Will both lenses work for the canon t4i or t5i?
+Malia Jade Vlogs Just the Sigma Art lens will work. The other lens is made for Sony cameras
how is better on AF VIDEO?
Thx for the video.
what adapter did you use?
+Type G Sigma MC-11. The link is in the description
Man I’m so happy I got the 30mm
It's amazing right???
Sidney Diongzon it is!
Sigma lenses have come a long way in the last 5 years.
Yes they have!
Can I using AF while shooting video on my 85L1 with my A7R2 by Sigma MC11
Sidney i have a question for you..Does the sharpness of this lens decreases if used on an APSC sensor?
This video is very informative! Kudos to you! Since you have both lenses, do you think that even a lens that has OSS such 35mm combined with the a6500 (IBIS), it's still going to be shaky? No such big difference?
+Nikolás Hasif Thanks! The OSS and IBIS is such a good combo to smooth your handheld shots! The IBIS is good enough by itself, but if you add the OSS from the lens, then it's even better!
Awesome! Thanks for the info :)
Nikolás Hasif I have that combination , (sony a6500 and 35mm f1.8) and I still get some shake so I'm looking into getting a gimbal. Honestly I would have just gotten one of these lenses in the video if I would have known it wasn't gonna be that stable :/
