I’m loving the Sigma 16mm 1.4... I decided buy it after watch your video about this lens...I love it because i was looking for a lens more wide, for landscape and to try new angles for portrait
I really like the unedited/edited versions of your examples. With all other reviewers you can never tell if the shot that they're showing you is edited or not
Ive been shooting with this lens for 18 months now on the a6300 and It's great. I can't add anything to what you already said, other than it's just great for so many types of photography. Great video man 👍🏼
I have this lens and I must say that I’m in love with it! I actually find myself using it more than the sigma 16mm 1.4 because of that “natural eye” perspective. I agree it’s great for portraits on aps-c :)

@@AriannaSantiago12 Agreed. Peter's.....too much sometimes. The obnoxious mouth sound effects, coffee jerk off sessions, over the top enthusiasm....no thanks. Great review, Dunna!
I love this lens. Found it barely used for like $120 at my local camera shop and have been shooting almost exclusively with it since then. It's great for portraits, street, landscapes, you name it. This and the Sony 55-200 are all I carry in my pack most days. As soon as I can lock down a cheap Sigma 16mm I'll have a near perfect 3 lens kit for daily use.
This is the lens that stays on my a6000 90% of the time. It’s a phenomenal fast standard prime due to its versatility and incredible sharpness plus extremely wide open aperture, making it an absolute joy at any lighting condition. This one especially excels closer up with that shallow DoF and great sharpness. As I love closeup photography, the lens was very well worth the purchase. Next up? Probably the SELP18105 or the SEL18135. The former costs less over here but I prefer the size of the latter alongside its increased reach. The fact that general optical performance between the 2 is so close, it’s almost negligible makes it even harder to choose. Was also thinking of the Rokinon 12mm since when I borrowed it from a friend, it was fantastic but he’s since sold it and I also wanted something more versatile to replace my kit lens.
Absolutely! It’s a tough call between the 18105 and the 18135. I love my 18105 though for its constant f4 and the internal zooming. But I think you’re pretty safe with either!
@@dunnadidit Both ought to be pretty darn good zoom lenses especially for their price range. I especially like the constant aperture on the 18105 but the smaller overall size plus wider range of focal lengths on the 18135 is mighty tempting, especially since I don't really do videos.
Just got my a6500 today! I got the body by itself & the Sigma 30mm f1.4 with it, I also ordered the Sigma 16mm 1.4 on amazon earlier in week & it's already arrived. So stoked! This will be my 1st camera I've ever owned.
Thanks for answering a question I had about it lol I’m a music artist looking for a great lens to shoot with. This comment & video helped me make my decision, thanks! 🙏🏽
The RAW/EDITED shots are just some of the best I've ever seen as part of YT footage, so nicely done. If there was ever an advert for RAW, this is it. Great videos!
I just bought this lens again today. I traded it for the Sony 18-105 a couple months ago. I kept the 18-105 for like 3 months and then I sold it recently. I missed the Sigma 30mm sooooo much!
Haha! Those two lenses are the ones that live on my camera the most. I’m really happy to have both cause I think I would keep going back and forth buying and selling like you haha!
Gonna buy a6500 or forthcoming a6700 but don’t know what lens to choose for it. Sony 18-105, Sigma 30 (plus one wide angle lens) or Sigma 16-35 with MC-11 adapter. So hard to decide 🤔 Need for video and street photography mostly
I always say that I would still prefer to have a good zoom lens first. Then start going in on primes. My 18-105 gets used the most still and then probably the 30 next.
I have A6500 for a year and a half now. My first lens is Zeiss 16-70. Second lens is Sony Macro 30mm, got Sony 18-105, and then I bought Sigma 16mm and pair of Manual lenses from Kamlan. The problem is that I am totally newbie, learn only from youtube videos, and still looking for what I want to be and what kind of genre I will master to shoot. That`s why then I started to simplify my lenses collection by selling the Sigma 16mm and my macro lens. Now I am planning to buy 30mm sigma f1.4 and sell my 18-105. What do you think?
I think it sounds like you have a solid hold on the direction you’re headed. Unfortunately, in my experience, the only way to really know what you need is to do what you’re doing. Buy some, try em out, sell some of em and buy other ones and repeat!
I have this Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN on a Olympus PEN camera Micro 4/3 and it's amazing. It gives the sharpest quality I've seen in a lens on this price range, great low-light quality also. The 1.4 aperture gives the most amazing bokeh! Go for it.
This answered all of my questions perfectly!! I have the sigma 16mm 1.4 and love it but I want something better for portraits. Adding this to my wish list!
this video answers my doubts as long as I hesitate to choose a 16mm Sigma lens or Sigma 30mm lens because my budget is more suitable for a 30mm Sigma but before that I was afraid that this lens was too zooming, this video holds my doubts, thank you
This is the kind of review I love you didn't spend the whole time telling us this was a poor man's lens you just let us know it's worth it everybody else seems to bash any lense that doesn't cost 1000 or more it's crazy

thanks for the video! I bought it before I found your video btw. so far I made a couple videos using the 30 1.4 and it is truly impressive. at f 1.4 it makes wonderful footages. I use 6300. comparing to the sony 55 1.8 I usually use for my videos I like this one more!
Great video and like your presentation style. I have 6000 and a bunch of lenses yet still trying to take the time to learn the camera. Appreciate your video, learning as I watch.
Question(s) . . . I know you don't have one to compare too . . . but in your opinion, does is it make sense to go with the Sigma vs the Sony 35 w/ oss for hand held stills using a 6500? Does the IBIS on the 6500 compensate enough for lack of stabilization on the Sigma? Also do you feel the 'auto-focus' is really on par with native Sony lenses ? . . . or would I be compromising by having an un-stabilized with lesser autofocus, in the name of 'sharpness' & image quality . . . essentially canceling out the 'pros' of the Sigma ? Kind of a rhetorical question . . . but hope you understand my meaning behind it. Great info and thank you for taking the time to review.
I definitely understand your concerns. Let me reassure you, the a6500 + sigma 30mm is a fantastic combo! The ibis does a fantastic job and I notice very little difference between when I just have ibis and when I have ibis+oss. And yes, the autofocus is fantastic with the native Sony sigma stuff now 😁 I have heard the 35 is great too but I LOVE my 30mm on my a6500
Being a new Sony aps-c shooter, scouring the web for what lenses to use and reviews is driving me nuts. It came down to this and the Sony 85mm 1.8. Lots of people discouraged me from this lens mainly because of the distortion blah blah etc since I do portraiture. But after reading some articles and watching this very detailed video of yours... I'd say, Dunna Did It. Thank you. I am getting this lens along with the 16mm f/1.4. More power to you and your photography/videography.
Lovely video! I just have 1 question: I can afford 1 lens only. Either the 16mm or the 30mm. I will use my camera for portraits, family functions and a few holiday destination landscape shots. My main concern is that while taking portraits I want the best bokeh and my subject should stand out pretty well from the background. I know I can capture portraits with both lenses but I just want to know which lens will give me the perfect natural looking shots with awesome bokeh. That is my main deciding factor. What's the best best lens then? 16 or 35? No compromise on portraits.
I think the most accurate to human eye focal length is 42mm(ish). So that makes this Lense actually even closer to human eyesight than a 50mm. On top of that, I've heard 40mm is the most popular focal length in Hollywood. Though I haven't fact checked either of these, so take them with a grain of salt. Great review as well, I like how you include a section for working around the downfalls of a Lense, it's a great addition to a review and I'm not sure why you're the only one who includes it.
That is really interesting (consider it taken with a grain of salt, but still really fascinating!) Thank you for the compliment on my format, It really means a lot that you would point that out! Makes me feel like I’m doing something right for sure! Cheers!
The human eye field of view is quite wide, yes, but the reason people talk about 50mm(ish) being similar to the way we see things has to do with the compression artifacts of lenses. Obviously we have periferal vision and our cameras don't so we're going to have quite a while fov but if you take a 10mm lens and take a photo of someone, it doesn't look the same as how we see them, the back of their head will seem super far back from the front of their head compared to real life... I hope I'm making sense lol
Thanks for this video man, I bought this lens on ebay and had instant buyers regret, I'm filming a youtube video for a new channel, lots of talking head and over head product stuff, and I've got a ZV-E10, so I was worried the non-full frame thing would be an issue, so appreciate you breaking it down for APS-C. Also love how many canadians are on youtube, seems like hollywood we overrepresent!
Oh it surely is your charm. :P I'd love to have the Sigma 16mm, but I got the Rokinon way back, when the 16 wasn't on the market yet. Thinking about adding the 85 1.8 for the portraits. hmm
Haha! 😉👍 Yeah that makes sense. Even when the 16mm was on the market it sold out so fast for the first little while that it kept being on backorder. An 85 would be really cool for portraits. Even the 18-105 zoomed into around 85 is great. The bokeh you can get even at f4 is quite impressive! I can only imagine what f1.8 would be like at that length.
Thinking for setup a6500 sigma 16mm and sigma 30 . Was thinking about the Zeiss 16 70 but with versatility and low light capability of the sigma it's the better option especially for my nightclubs. Still close for group photos and still wide enough for capturing the club. Plus it's nice and compact. No more mouse worry having to bump up my iso
Impeccable timing on this video, I'm trying to choose between the 16mm and 30mm as my first prime lens for my a6000 as we speak :) Im just starting out on my photography journey and as such i don't know my preferred shooting type as yet. So im looking for a lens which is versatile will increase the quality of my photos doesn't break the bank. It sounds like the 30mm may be the way to go...Great video :)
I have 18-105mm OSS G Lens and Sigma 30mm f1.4. If you don't need stabilazed lens with power zoom 100% must go for Sigma 30mm f1.4! The 18-105mm f4 OSS G Lens is fantastic too but if you don't shoot in low light!
Great Video thanks... I wonder do you have to place it far off the subject if you are on cropped sensor? 50mm on my Canon 70d needs so much space... I am thinking to go to the Sony route for my cam gear..
Hey does anyone know if this lens suppose to zoom in and out. Just received mine and I cant zoom in or out with it. Not sure if thats how it is or is broken?
It doesn’t zoom. This type of lens is called a prime lens. Just one focal distance. Lenses that are zoom lenses will have two numbers. For example 16-55mm. This one is just 30mm
@@dunnadidit hi. When you say that lens first, does it mean focus on the kit lens first? Because in my country they are selling a6500 with this 30mm as the kit lens. So I'm intrigue. Is it enough for normal jpeg user for travel and street photography? Thanks.

Also love how many canadians are on youtube, seems like hollywood we overrepresent!
I don't know why I even watch this. Got this lens over a year ago and its on my a6000 95% of the time. Also got an 12mm Rokinon and the 18-105.
Must have something to do with my charm and charisma 😂😂😁
That’s a great lens kit you have! Swap out your rokinon with the sigma 16mm and that’s pretty much my same kit.
Oh it surely is your charm. :P
I'd love to have the Sigma 16mm, but I got the Rokinon way back, when the 16 wasn't on the market yet.
Thinking about adding the 85 1.8 for the portraits. hmm
Haha! 😉👍
Yeah that makes sense.
KirbyGoezPink I was thinking about getting the 12mm rokinon, any good?
This lens and the 16mm f1.4 are the only lenses I have and the only lenses I need for my type of video work. Excellent lens and review man ;)
They are pretty wonderful aren’t they! Thanks for watching!
Yeah as long as you’re ok with switching lenses here and there I think you have the right idea!
Loved the review. It covered all the points. I'm getting one. Thanks.
so my friend recommended this lens for me then i had to search it realizing you also live here in Edmonton WOW
You know it! YEG represent!
This was really helpful, thanks for making this video.
My pleasure!! Thanks for watching!
I love when that happens! I think it sounds like the 30mm might be perfect! Glad my video was helpful! Let me know if you have any questions!
Hi, Simon! I am going to buy an a6000 this week but still confused between the Sigma 16mm and 30mm!
30mm is more versatile as the first prime lens, it can shoot anything from landscape to portrait, 16mm is good for landscape only ;)
Just ordered it.. So excited!
Nice! I hope you love it!
This or 18-105mm OSS G lens? I sold my kit lens and have enough budget for one of them..
I'd go 18-105 first.
This lens 30mm concept with the 135mm art perfect combo
Does video is stabilized on gimble if we r using alpha 6400 with sigma 35mm 1.4
If your using a gimbal the footage should be nice and smooth!
I love my Sigma trio, but I also still keep my Sony 35mm & 50MM with me. It's fun having the choices for each of my trip.
Thats awesome!
Great Video thanks... I wonder do you have to place it far off the subject if you are on cropped sensor? 50mm on my Canon 70d needs so much space... I am thinking to go to the Sony route for my cam gear..
It will be less so than your 50mm by quite a bit but it’s still not a wide angle lens by any means.
I plan to have this for photography and cinematography. This works? Great stuff btw keep it up!!!!
Is this good for a5100 ?
Absolutely!
I just bought the sigma 16mm 1.4, I will be buying the 30mm 1.4 next, after that the 56mm 1.4.
Great review buddy!!!
Nice! I have the trio of them and they’re great!
Dunna Did It thanks a lot mate
Currently have the Sigma 16mm f1.4 and love it! Seriously considering adding this one to my kit ... thanks for the video!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Dunna Did It Dunna I did it. 👍 BH has this lens for $289!
Nice!!
Dunna, do you think it's better Sony a7ii or Sony A6500. I am confused. Sorry for my english, im indonesian
I am a beginner, trying photopragphy, for vlog video travel needs, cinematic and landscape photography, what lens should I use first?
My personal opinion would be the a6500 is better :) and I would look at the 18-105 f4 lens first.
@@dunnadidit thankyou dunna
My pleasure dude!
@@dunnadidit hi. When you say that lens first, does it mean focus on the kit lens first? Because in my country they are selling a6500 with this 30mm as the kit lens. So I'm intrigue. Is it enough for normal jpeg user for travel and street photography? Thanks.
Thank you Sir, Just had to order it today to use as a b roll on a slider for detail work. I use a batis 18 2.8 but that 1.4 cream. Great video thank you.
That’s awesome! I hope you love it as much as I do!
"The Highest Rated APS-C lens EVER!" Not quite! The Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 DC HSM is rated higher by dxo.
When I search for it the 30mm still comes up higher than the 18-35. 30mm has a 29 rating and 18-35 has a 28 overall.
That being said! I appreciate you pointing it out either way! I was referring to e-mount lenses but didn’t specify in the title!
Lol! Please check for Nikon d500.
Lol well there it is haha, weird that it’s rated higher for Nikon than canon mount.
Thanks for the video review. Great job.
Cheers! Thanks for watching!
I plan on getting the a6100 with the 30mm sigma combo. after seeing this video I'm now more confident in this decision. thank you!!
great video, field test is better than scientific test, thanks so much.
Thanks so much!
Yeah! Finally you released this vid! Thanks Dunna! Guess I’ve made up my mind. Gonna get this for my portraits.
Haha I’m sorry it took so long! Glad it helped you make up your mind! Feel free to use the link in the description if you want to help me out a bit too 😉 HAPPY SHOOTING!
Dunna Did It No worries bro! Truly appreciate it!
Cheers dude!
I'm going to buy it thanks to this video! Subscribed!
Glad I could help make your decision Lupe! Cheers!
I'm sold. It's time to upgrade my kit lens. 👏👏👏
Yes!! You’re gonna love it! There’s a link in the description if you want to support the channel too!
Getting inspired by your video, I bought my first camera which is Sony a6000 crop along with the sigma 300mm f1.4 lens.. Its working beautifully..
Thank you so much!! This was really helpful, keep up making videos like these!
Yay I’m glad it helped you out! I definitely will!
This video literally answered all my questions!! Thank you so much 🙌🙌🙌
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Go for it Dunna! 100k!!
Thinking of this one or the Sony 28mm 2.2. Great review on this sigma. I like that it's not too big so it's an easy travel lens
Thanks so much, I’ve never used the 28mm but I know a few people who like it. I love how small and light the 30mm is.
Great Review
But would u recommend the Sony 35mm or this lens for general street photography
I personally like what I’ve seen of the 30mm more but both lenses are great performers in my opinion.
@@dunnadidit hmmm
How about just for photos without editing/ basic lightroom editing
Which lens do you think does a better job?
Great video! I love this lense! I have this, the sigma 16mm, and plan on getting the FE 85mm very soon
Nice! I’ve always wanted to try out the 85. I just can’t figure out how often I would actually use it.
I'm also willing to buy this lens. Thanks man. Great video. 👍
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Great review ~~ You deserve way more views !!!
Thank you so much Martin! If you know anyone else who might enjoy the video feel free to share it! It goes a long way to help with views! Cheers!
Just bought the lens !!
Nice! That’s amazing! I hope you enjoy it!
Great vid as always. Already got this lens and it's amazing. I have a question about the set up you are using to record this video (the beginning at home)?
Thanks! What’s your question?
I am using the 30mm on Sony 6300 for 2 years now. It’s one of the best lens I have ever used.
It's great. Thanks for your content. Keep it up friend
Thanks for watching!
That sequence shot is dope.
Thank you my friend!
Great review buddy!
