This song and the video are the best around. The promotion and the musicians are fantastic news in my man the promotion are wonderful and there is litter credit to get promotion of this song and video.whoever he is my hat goes off for you
Mickey Thomas: one of the greatest -- and most underrated -- rock vocalists ever. Incredible how he can still belt it out just as if he were still in his youthful prime.
The Starships best song, full of raw emotion. And Mickey can still belt it out. What a voice! The man can flat out hang them notes high and hold them there,he still has it.
Dude give it up for mickey thomas!! That guy didnt lose one bit of his power , his vibrato, his emotion or his ability to sing perfectly in key. That guy is impressive! matter of fact i saw a 2019 video of jane & he still was singing exactly the same as 1979. Wow! U rock mickey!!
I doubt Mickey wastes his time reading these comments but if he does happen to browse through here, Mickey: I have never heard someone sound EXACTLY the same as they did 30+ years ago but, dude, you sound friggin' amazing here. Absolutely amazing! It's almost uncanny to look at you and hear the same voice from 1979. Congrats on staying healthy and keeping that voice healthy.
Wow has he still got the voice. I also like how the guitarist has nicely embellished the guitar and ' metalised ' it a bit without spoiling it. Good job all round
Mickey you've still got honey on those chords my friend - you look healthy and strong and you look like you've taken care of yourself....many thanks for hits over the years and your voice is such a gift to rock - we love ya - especially in SoCal!
I saw Mickey Thomas perform with Starship way back in the early 90's at the Illinois State Fair along with 38 Special, Head-East and REO Speedwagon. I was amazed to hear this performance from 2013 because the man can still reach for those notes and nail them! So many great singers from the 70's and 80's can't make that range anymore and it was awesome to see Mickey Thomas hit it and hold it. A lot of us discuss the great vocalists from our pasts, like Steve Perry (Journey), Jimi Jameson/Dave Bickler (Survivor), Brad Delp (Boston), Geoff Tate (Queensryche) Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), but I for one, often forget about Mickey Thomas. After hearing this performance, he definitely deserves a strong mention. Thanks for posting this.
+Lesley Morgan Hey Lesley, I'm so sorry it took 3 months to get back to you. Medical issues are a bitch when you get old. I agree with you 100%. Robin Zander of Cheap Trick is still hitting his notes and Mickey Thomas is hitting his as well. He is a great vocalist who is very under-rated today. I don't know how often he tours so I don't know how much he gets to rest his voice but he sounds good here. Thanks for posting!
+MrMike9158 He's still got a set of pipes, doesn't he? A lot better than the clip of Starship at Magic Casino, where the guy is singing a third or fourth lower.
+Mariano Paniello Oh ya. I found out that guy at Magic Casino was David Freiberg, and he actually wrote the song. But at the time it was written, it was written for Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick's vocals, not his. And Mickey just kills the vocals on this, even today, but David, sadly, just butchers them at the casino. I wish he would have let Cathy take more of the higher parts because she is a dead ringer for a young Grace Slick when she wants to be and her range is insane. She's a Chicago native that's been singing a long time. Hey, thanks for posting my friend. Later.
Mickey at his prime was a top twenty vocalists of all time and with the right band would have been recognized as such by the masses. Forty years into a career nobody, and I mean nobody can touch this guy. Clean living is one thing, but genetics gave him pipes that were a lottery ticket and he definitely cultivated made the most of it.
Mickey never got the recognition he deserved even back in the day he is no doubt one of the top 5 best rock singers of all time he's 66 and would blow most any singer off the stage to this day.
I work for a company named Starship, (which is ridiculous on a whole other level), and I start singing Starship songs. Blank look on the 20 something kid training me.
Maintaining a healthy voice is as much about over all lifestyle .What you eat and drink .physical fitness etc. Most singers don't have the discipline. The voice is more complex than people realize..Drugs and alcohol being the worse of all for a voice. So with most of the bands from then and now don't wanna give up the partying.the voice. Pays the price.Cocaine was a big no no! It numbs the vocal chords which cause over straining the vocal chords.and opens the air way twice as far which gives you a false sense of power behind the voice.Jeff Keith from tesla is a good example.
@ Daba H Yes, Mickey still has IT ! He has IT all oVer, not only has he held his range, he still looks scrumptous. The only other that I can think of that still holds his range is David Coverdale.
That's my boy John Roth on guitar and Jeff Adams on Bass they ha d a band here in Memphis in the late 80 s and they where so bad ass and Jeff is also a killer vocalist l miss Fire Choir
Oh my Lord did u hear micky at 2:45 let out that roaring high perfect pitch note ? That guy's voice is phenominal !! Wow i cant believe he has such a beautiful and strong voice at his age. Oh man i rewound it like 30 times. Give u the chills...
Mickey kept his classic voice better than any other rocker from his generation, no matter who you name they've they've gone down an octave, or lost some range, but not Mickey, his voice literally hasn't lost anything or changed at all, it's just gotten stronger.
Mickey is one of the BEST vocalists! His range is phenomenal!
The promotion of this song and video are like
This song and the video are the best around. The promotion and the musicians are fantastic news in my man the promotion are wonderful and there is litter credit to get promotion of this song and video.whoever he is my hat goes off for you
Yes, yes yes!! One of the greatest singers ever!!!!!
Wow, how has he maintained his voice?!? He still sings the song in the original pitch. Amazing really.
Because he's not a dope fiend fuck up like most were/are.
Yea, what happened Elton?
Lots of heroin.
unlike Robert Plant, Steve Perry, etc
This is actually ridiculously good!
Mickey has such a gift.
Rarely you hear vocalists from the 70's & 80's who can still sing today as they did back in their prime.
u right, even the greatest can't touch ther prime which is ok, i lov my legends but Mick must be the most natural high tenor that ever lived.
GG Shin from Chase
Pretty much Micky and Paul Rodgers....that's about where the list starts and ends.
Daryl Hall...usually.
Billy Joel, Gary Brooker
Wow some rockers loose their voice when they age, Mickey still got it!
Lose.....not loose.
He does! I just saw him last night! 😍
still belts it out like back then
Just saw him in 2020.. Still going strong !!

Fantastic, great band also, what a voice Mickey
Mickey Thomas: one of the greatest -- and most underrated -- rock vocalists ever. Incredible how he can still belt it out just as if he were still in his youthful prime.
Mickey Thomas still looks young
The Starships best song, full of raw emotion. And Mickey can still belt it out. What a voice! The man can flat out hang them notes high and hold them there,he still has it.

The best 70s rock vocal performances 30+ years later. No one sounds like how they did in the 70s, yet here's Mickey
Stephanie is AWESOME! I wish she was still with the band... she was a favorite!
The man still has the "Pipes"!!!! Amazing vocalist!!!!!!!!!
Damn he can STILL hit those high notes. Bravo mate ❤️
This man is unreal. All the subtleties from the recording he STILL hits.
I had to come back for another dose of Mickey... This man kills........Other vocalists fear this man.....................
This is one great singer.Still got the juice.

Same key as original. Quite impressive!
amazing that he didn't seem to lose his range. good stuff!
I doubt Mickey wastes his time reading these comments but if he does happen to browse through here, Mickey: I have never heard someone sound EXACTLY the same as they did 30+ years ago but, dude, you sound friggin' amazing here. Well said. Nothing to add. You wrote exactly what I was going to write. I cannot believe how he can still sing this stuff
Not to mention a badass backing band!!
Mickey is one in a million..
Saw him a few year's ago and he still sounds AWESOME !! Unreal !!
To be honest, he sounds even better than he did then.
Mickey Thomas still sounds great ! one of my Favs from back in the day.
Wow has he still got the voice. I also like how the guitarist has nicely embellished the guitar and ' metalised ' it a bit without spoiling it. Good job all round
Mickey Thomas one of those with a "Golden Voice"....original key, wow...love it!

One of the single most difficult songs to front, and done masterfully by Mr. Mickey....then master at play
Mickey still sounds amazing - all the fire is still in his voice. Must be in his 60’s here?
Wow he still can belt it out....amazing!
I work for a company named Starship, (which is ridiculous on a whole other level), and I start singing Starship songs. Blank look on the 20 something kid training me.

There's videos of him in 2021 and while he's gotten older, he still hits the notes with solid power.

Mickey kept his classic voice better than any other rocker from his generation, no matter who you name they've they've gone down an octave, or lost some range, but not Mickey, his voice literally hasn't lost anything or changed at all, it's just gotten stronger.
