You mentioned 12 gauge 3.5" matching or approaching 10 gauge performance. Some of us shotgun reloaders have been working on modernizing the 10 gauge, insofar as making 3 oz loads. 12 gauge usually maxes out around 2 1/4 oz (18 pellets of 00 buck, or 54 pellets of #4 buck). These 3 oz 10 gauge loads are loaded with 32 pellets of #1 buck or 24 pellets of 00 buck. There's not any 12 gauge loads that I've seen that approach these loads.
This is really cool to see, I was hoping to see something like this. I can’t help but think that loads like that would be an excellent anti-drone tool. Especially given how much shotguns are being utilized overseas right now to defend against the extremely prominent use of drones

Out of that came the 870 Wingmaster , model 37 Ithaca (1937) and the model 12 Winchester was in that time as well in 1907 to 1910 .It is real fascinating to learn that the original Browning design was the father of the modern pump shot gun😊

They also made a short barreled Model 37 for Law Enforcement know famously as the "Stakeout" ! P.S. the 10 gauge was a semi-auto known as the "Roadblocker"!
The BPS 10 gauge is back-bored from the factory or at least they used to be. I have had one since 1990 and you are correct that the BPS 10 has less felt recoil than the 3 1/2" 12 gauge magnum. The exception on the recoil are the 10 gauge slugs. They do have some kick.
It's primarily meant for waterfowl and turkey, and in the US at least the shotgun has to be limited to a total capacity of 3 rounds for waterfowl and turkey hunting is usually a one shot affair. And that's the shortest available factory barrel for the 10, most are 28 or 30 inch barrels.
It’s a hunting shotgun, so you have to run a plug in the mag tube anyway to lower the capacity to 3 shells in the gun at any time, to be legal. And yes game wardens do check your gun, ive been checked serval times. So why would the make a longer and heavier mag tube if it won’t get used by 99% of the intended users anyway?
It's not power but the weight of the shot. 12g 3.5 is 1 1/2 ounce where the 10g 3.5 can hold 1 5/8 ounce. And that's steel shot. That means more BB,s and more on target.
Have the same gun with a 28" barrel. Check with Briley for an extension. Would be fun with that extension and some 2-7/8" handloads. Could probably fit 10 or so in there.

whatever you have for home defence remember, attaching a torch is always good and train with your weapon of choice every now and then. oh and earmuffs that are on top of the gun and you can throw on quick is a good idea too. enclosed areas and loud guns are really bad.
Shouldn’t be too hard to fabricate the extension. Honestly the longer spring might be the bigger issue but nothing too serious, the tube just needs the correct id and threads with a cap on the end.
It's more difficult than you think. Boring out thin wall tubing that is 10D or 12D (length is 10-12 times the diameter), and getting the transition where the tubes mate, to be smooth enough where the shells don't hang up. It's not a trivial task to do it properly.
Briley Manufacturing has already accomplished this for the BPS 10 and the Gold 10 models. They are readily available and have been for quite some time. $125 to $145 and you double your magazine capacity.
I hate to be that guy, but I’m gonna call BS on it being 100yds. Physics says it’s extremely unlikely, as most all loads and shot sizes you’d use for duck don’t carry enough energy to lethally penetrate past 60yds. Let alone penetrate at all at 80-85yds and beyond. As an avid waterfowl hunter myself I all too often see people thinking they use a 12ga and with 3 1/2” loads “because it kills them farther away” when really that’s a half truth and all shotgun gauges are limited to the same depth of penetration/ energy at the same distances. A #2 piece of shot at 1300fps still carries the same energy in a 10ga as it does a 28ga. You only have more chances of a hit with a 10ga.
I have one of these purchased in the late 90s was wondering if it is safe to shoot remington hypersonic steel through it if i buy an aftermarket choke tube

Love my 10ga BPS, I also have the rifle sight deer barrel
this slug put huge holes in whitetails -- been there, done that
I have a Browning semi 10g
whatever you have for home defence remember, attaching a torch is always good and train with your weapon of choice every now and then.
oh and earmuffs that are on top of the gun and you can throw on quick is a good idea too. enclosed areas and loud guns are really bad.
That black cloud is some lethal stuff
I want the semi auto gold trigger
I’m going for the Browning gold 10ga. Been looking at them for a while.
Loved goose hunting with my grandpa’s gold 10.
Awesome
I've never seen a pump 10 gauge.Ithaca did a semi auto one years ago called the Road Blocker probably the same thing you call the Mag 10?
thank you for the video!!!
Great video Eric and Chad
I would love to use a 10 Gauge for Wild Boar hunting.
Briley made the extension for my BPS 10 gauge. They still make them.
Great gun. I agree, Just needs a tube extension!
Great video!!! What kinda choke does it take?¿
I like the way you think!
Watched my dad slap a spoonbill duck at 100 yards with a 10 gauge bps when I was a kid. Great gun. I like the 28 gauge too.
You only have more chances of a hit with a 10ga.
when u get the extension plz redo the video
I can't imagine any round out of a 10 ga is not going to be absolute self defence capable!
Do a video on the beretta a400
Thanks to Paul Harrel for explaining how someone came up with shotgun gauges.
That melon didn't stand a chance "melon taps sounds" although the one got away.
Ithaca made a police version of the mag 10 called the road block. I think it holds more rounds.
Also 18.5 inch barrel. Road blockers are awesome
Fun video! Thanks for sharing !
God bless all here
I have one of these purchased in the late 90s was wondering if it is safe to shoot remington hypersonic steel through it if i buy an aftermarket choke tube
Back in the day didn't Ithaca make a 10 gauge for State Troopers specifically for shattering the engine block on cars?
I love the Browning BPS Shotguns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta feel that wallop
Great quail and dove gun!
