    For the first time I actually spent hours just to learn the basic of Blender. I never really got into it because I found it hard, but now I actually understand the basic of it and are willing to proceed further. Love it so far

      Once you get the basics of Blender it is very exciting because at that point you can create so many things! You never get done learning new things in Blender. But that just opens even more creation opportunities. I am a slow learner. It took me a long time to learn Blender but now I am addicted!

    HOT TIP: For those curious about what to do with the fully rigged model supplied in the zip file, here's what you do: Export the GEO-Body mesh as a .OBJ file and then reimport it back into Blender in a fresh file. The rig will be free of all of it's existing armatures and vertex data. Clean up any odd shapes left straggling and you'll have a fresh, untouched Sky mesh, ready to continue these tutorials in lockstep with the author.

    There is a stupid mistake that I was making ,and that is because he showed something else, and said something else.
    I was parenting the bones to the mesh.
    You have to parent the mesh to the bones.
    I believe that it is selected in the wrong order.
    I really hope that this is the case for everybody here, as it is really frustrating

    • @CertifiedDoc
      @CertifiedDoc 2 года назад +1

      When parenting, the selected objects are parented to the active object. The active object is highlighted differently than the others, and is normally the last one you select. So, like the video shows, you select the mesh, followed by the armature.
      Also, you'll know if you selected them in the right order because the armature deform options won't appear at all unless you do.

    • @markcheng
      @markcheng Год назад

      8:09 I agree that this point was the toughest to grasp because he went a little fast for beginners. It’s because what he says and what he does is just a half second apart. But he is saying it correctly- you want the mesh to follow what the armature does so the latter is the parent…

    • @ololo9283
      @ololo9283 4 года назад +17

      Edit: I also could not get my character to move in Pose mode. However, after doing some searching, this is what I found resolved the issue -- starting from right before you parent the armature to the mesh:
      (1) Select the mesh then the armature and then right-click and go to Parent in the menu
      (2) Go to Armature Deform >> select With Automatic Weights
      (3) Select only the mesh and go to the Modifiers panel, and Add the modifier called "Armature"
      (4) For the Armature modifier's "Object" setting, pick your armature. Then, check on the option called "Bone Envelopes".
      (5) Now, select your armature, switch to Pose Mode, and when you rotate the armature etc. your parent mesh will react to it

    does not affect mesh.

    • @DiegoBessa3D
      @DiegoBessa3D 3 года назад +2

      Perhaps you're selecting the armature first and the model second, in that case, you putting the model as father rather than the armature, which is wrong, you need to select first the model, then the armature, that way you're defining to blender that the armature should influence the model, and not the other way around.

    • @DiegoBessa3D
      @DiegoBessa3D 3 года назад

      @Tidder T You have to select the option with automatic weight, if by any chance you did it wrong before, maybe the model have kept the bone relation with no weight, the solution would be selecting the model, go to vertex groups and delete all the bones names on the box, otherwise you must be aware that even if you did everything right, you must select the armature and change the mode to position mode, where it will influence the model, if its in edit mode, it will not.

But I ended up with the suitable model. I suppose the other way would have been to setup new layout windows to match default in the original sky file, but that seemed like the longer way.

    I am following these videos on 2024, but it seems they are not updated, it would be nice if they would make new videos with updated tools, for example in the download files I don't see the model shown in the video.

    "The existing Armature modifier is already using a different armature object" is what the metarig (rigify) object that I just inserted (just inserted) is telling me. . .I just inserted it because the last rig I inserted was parented and the parenting would absolutely not clear (????). Do you know how I might force blender to work . . .Have been searching websites for a while.

    I find it confusing that the "head" is at the bottom and the "tail" is on top. It's the exact opposite of what I'd expect.

    I need help with something I made my armature and import it to a different file and it has extra bones added how do I fix the problem?

  • @NobodyEvenReadsNames
    @NobodyEvenReadsNames 3 года назад +1

    Following this tutorial to the exact letter, I get stuck at around 8:15. The "With Automatic Weights" option is completely absent for me in the hotkey menu (it for some reason shows up in the right click menu only), and none of the options do not seem to work, as moving the bones in Pose mode does not cause the model to deform with them.
    I think after looking very closely that this is because the "GRP-sky" object I downloaded is not the same exact version as the one in the video (mine has a scarf and ball joints). Mine seems to be more restricted somehow, and has the collection icon in the Outliner instead of a regular model icon like in the video. I think they might be getting seen as Empties for some reason, despite having models. It is very strange!

      I am still a begginer but, remove all the bloat except the body mesh called GEO-body. In object mode select the mesh and than Shift select the armature and after that go to parent with automatic weights and if it says parent loop as an error than do the same but instead of clicking on with automatic weights just hit unparent and try again

    So I have a character with weights and an armature. Now I want a mesh with totally different proportions to use that same armature. Can I just delete all the groups for the second mesh and delete that armature and put the armature I want onto the new mesh and move the bones around to the correct spots on the mesh then re-parent it? I tried transferring weights tool but the new mesh never deformed correctly

      maybe you can just do what I did. I just removed all the bloat except the original mesh. Or you can parent the scarf and eyes to the mesh so that they move along with it

      @@FrznFury It's still the fully rigged model in the zip folder and the tutorial as described doesn't seem to work with all the jazz that's been built into it when you strip it out. I found that a good way is to export the whole thing as an .obj file and then reimport it into the scene; it loses all the armature and vertex group data when it's converted.

    why are the bones invisible? i literally just started learning how to rig characters and they're completely invisible. why is this the default?

    • @MrMoon-hy6pn
      @MrMoon-hy6pn 3 года назад

      They shouldn't be invisible by default. Unless you mean the bones are obscured by a mesh.
      In that case go to the armature settings and check "in front" in viewport display

    man the character rig on link looks different,
    the ones on tutorial at 02:15 looks more plain than the download link...
    idk.. i just learn this today,
    so i was thinking to remove all armature that already exist on the character rig then continue the tutorial
