Owned both. I like the Heritage because it feels like I'm sitting in the bike and not on it, and at stop lights it's just easier to play with. Just one mans opinion,

Same thing I have always said. You feel like you sit into a heritage and a Road King feels like you're sitting on top of a tank holding on for dear life until you get used to it. That being said, I've owned both and currently own a RK and once I got used to the way it felt I absolutely love the ride.

Jerry, I have been riding for over 40 years and its amazing after watching your video how sloppy I got over the years. I watch every video you make and then go to the college parking lot and practice, practice, practice...Huge improvement for me at slow speeds handling my RK. I was never a duck walker but I used way to much space to turn the bike around. Now, I flip that baby around in half the space just because of head placement and where I am looking. I was taught that but over the years I got sloppy and wasn't using it, now....I use everything you teach and you have not only made me a better rider but Im much smoother in long sweeping turns and U turns....Thank you for taking the time to put these videos for the Geezer Glide riders...LOL

I am torn between the two. I love the look of the Heritage with the leather bags, but I have to agree, the Road King is the better bike. I currently ride an 883 and looking to upgrade. I recently rented a 2021 Road Glide Special in CA while on vacation and rode it from Orange County to Big Bear. What an awesome bike! It was so smooth and power on demand. It handled beautifully. I rode it for about 7 hours with breaks along the way, and when I was done, I felt like I could ride for another 7 hours. Two hours on my 883 and I am done for the day! Bigger is always better!

I liked the road king and was really torn. What finally did was the 114 that the heritage had in 2019 and the ability to take off the windscreen and bags turning it into a deluxe. That saves weight and it’s just less bike.
I also preferred the styling it’s classic old school.
I also liked the sport glide.

I’m so torn now. I have ridden both bikes before, but felt more comfortable on the heritage. The resemblances to my 900 Vulcan (also extremely nimble and maneuverable) is what I was basing my comparisons off of. We also have a boulevard c90. The road king still didn’t feel as clunky as the boulevard. I really push my limits on my Vulcan, turning, manoeuvring, scraping boards because my ride style is a little more on the aggressive side. Perhaps if I chose the heritage (if the day ever comes I can ever afford one) I will simmer down and ride more responsibly. I also like the hard bags. I’m sure there is a kit could buy to put them on the heritage, but would still be 100% content without.
I really appreciate your videos. Riding is my biggest passion, beside trucking. I want to become the best I possibly can at it, within my capabilities. I have even suggested your content to friends looking into or have already started riding. I think it’s about time I pull the trigger on your educational content!

Hello Jerry, I'm returning to riding after a nearly 10-yr hiatus. And, I did what many do -- bought a big heavy bike (Vulcan 1600 classic). After riding it a couple of times, I felt intimidated by the weight as I'm older now. This was the last bike owned so I thought it would be easy riding. I made a decision today and ordered one of your video sets. ...decided it's better to invest in me (develop my skills) first. I may or may not sell the bike for a smaller one while I develop the skills. My goal is to become a competent and confident rider, then move-up to my final dream bike--a fully loaded Road King. Be well.

I agree. I loved the classic. Back around 99 or 2000 I was at Daytona bikeweek when Ross Myers was on Beach st. They had about 25 of the Classics lined up in a row. This was when the Classic was the most popular Harley model and few dealers had even one Classic. They had the bikes marked up from an MSRP of 16,700 to 21K. At the end of bikeweek they were all sold.

2 heritages, 2 RKs. Over 50k miles on both platforms...maybe 75k on the RKs. I ended up liking the RK more since I'm 6'4" and it's just a little bigger. I put 16" apes on both the Heritage and the RK... rode with and without the shields...2 up and solo... there really isn't THAT much difference... but there is a little. My 2007 RK Custom has rolled 60k miles now.... it's pretty much my perfect ride. Something special about the Kings to me.

Great video Jerry, very informative. I bought a brand new Heritage in 2012 and find it to be a comfortable ride though I wish it had a little more lean angle yet I learned to adjust for it. Gong to purchase your updated Ride Like A Pro DVD. I bought my first one from you when I got the Heritage and you taught me much on the proper techniques how to handle my bike. I even found a abandoned packing lot and painted the practice circles on it to practice. Should I not ride for any length of time I go back to the DVD for a refresh course. In many ways it's not only a bike saver but a life saver. Highly recommend to all riders who value the obvious.

I just sold my 103 2016 road king and bought a Road Glide limited. The Road king looked good with the white walls and spoked wheels, but it rode heavy and isn’t a bike for a beginner. It was a beast on curvy roads and you had to be on top of your game, no day dreaming on that bike in the mountains. Over all a good bike but I wouldn’t put someone on one just starting out.
The RDRS saved my behind on a mountain road when I hit gravel in a curve. Scared the shit out of me but it performed as advertised.

The one thing that has made a huge difference with the King is the softbrake clutch. Almost feels like a cable clutch now. Love the King over the Heritage. Both are great bikes. Very good review. I own an 18 heritage 107 and a 2017 street glide. Also had a road king.
The heritage mono shock is hands down far superior to any other shock including aftermarket for any Harley touring.
The 100 pound differential makes the road king better for touring but needs $900 aftermarket shocks and a better seat according to this video.
Also Heritage sits lower and with lighter weight might be more comfortable for shorter light weight people. The RK is the best balance H-D imo. You can get an aftermarket fairing for either of these bikes if you want more weather /wind protection particularly on longer rides.

Nice video. I have a 2018 107 Heritage Softail Classic in Vivid Black. I've done some modifications (stage II for more torque) to mine and added some accessories (tour pack, engine and saddlebag guards, passenger foot boards, LED lights all around, different style handgrips, coil cover, etc.). I love the bike! My wife rides with me the majority of the time, and she enjoys the ride. If you have a passenger, I'd suggest getting a thicker passenger seat. H.D. sells the same studded style seat but more thicker than the stock one. All in all, I think I made the right choice in choosing this bike over the other models. The ride is comfortable and maneuvers very well. I highly recommended it! For an old disabled veteran such as myself, this bike fits me like a glove--lightweight and easy to handle.

I purchased the same studded style seat from H.D. that has more padding. I also purchased for her some half-moon foot boards replacing the foot pegs, and she really likes them. Additionally, I purchased a tour pack that comes with a high backrest so she can rest against it comfortably and have the ability to store her helmet in it when we stop somewhere. I really love the bike. It rides like a Road King with my wife adding to the weight of the bike. If you take the detachable windshield off and saddle bags, the bike looks like a Softail Deluxe. You can usually purchase H.D. accessories through Surdyke H.D. online cheaper than purchasing them directly from the H.D. dealership or website. There is a minimum purchase amount though to get free shipping. I highly recommend the Softail.

Viking tour packs are a lot less expensive and are of good quality, but do not have pre-drilled holes. Good luck with your bike shopping. If I had to do it all over again, I would get the 114 cubic inch motor instead of 107 cubic inch-adds more torque and power. i love the 2013 CVO breakout in the granite and gold, but i hear the 240 rear tire makes it corner weird. while i like the ultra, and the heritage,
but being 59, i'm not ready for that grandpa bike yet. lol now i'm going to show my age a little, the newer models no longer look like traditional harleys.
with chopped up rear fenders, thin uncomfortable seats, in some cases wacky handlebars, and too much frame. the pan am, the vrod, are not for me.
anyway, thanks for your time, and ride safe.

Love my road king special. Well worth the extra $$. 114, full stretched bags amazing ride. Traded in my street glide on it . Before buying i test rode a regular road king, the special, the heritage and the sport glide and of all the rk special by far had the best feel and handling. Only complaint was factory mufflers were too quiet but some 4" megaphone sliponns cured that real fast

I recently purchased my first HD. After looking at all options I opted for the Road King Special. What an incredible machine. I think the ride quality of the touring frame is quite a bit better. I decided to upgrade the rear shocks and went with Ohlins, which are about a 1/2" taller than stock. Even better. For the last several years I have been on a large ADV bike. I was concerned about the weight of the RKS. Completely a non-factor. Thanks to Jerry's techniques, which I often practiced on my much taller ADV bike, the low speed maneuverability of the RKS is so incredibly easy. I never knew what I was missing. The Road King is all-day comfy and a real pleasure to ride. Thanks Jerry for your DVD's and RUclips channel. Your techniques eliminate all fear......It really is as easy as a child's toy.

i used to own a heritage, now i have a road king classic and the road king for me is WAY better than the heritage, more long term comfort and for a heavy bike OMG the Road king is so easy to maneuver and slow drag (i'm lazy don't like to put my feet down so i slow drag at lights alot lol)

Will dealers really sell the Road King Police version to non-LEOs?

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  3 года назад +3

They can. Rumor has it though that 2021 police bikes are sold out and 2022 bikes won't be out until February 2022.

My choice is the Road King. I don't know if I'll ever buy a brand new bike. You're already paying 18-20K for the bike and then the dealer wants to add on fees? How much of the initial bike cost do they get anyway? Plus the immediate depreciation. That's why I don't buy new cars. But, I do love the Road King so it might be worth it.

I personally just chose the Heritage over the Road King because I felt the Heritage handled better and gets through traffic on the highway easier. The POLICE model Road King has the same skinny rear tire setup as the Heritage, but the regular Road Kings' rear tire is wide which hurts the handling slightly. Police models all have the rear tire that match the front tire for handling purposes.

On Heritage, set the rear suspension to 5 (max preload) for low speed maneuvers and you’ll be equal to RK.
