This made me remember something from about 1978. I was living in Victorville at the time and a group of us, all on Harley's rode down to San Bernardino to go to a bike swap meet. We were sitting at a light on Baseline Ave and across from us in the opposing lane sitting at the light were two SB motor cops on Harley's, they were talking to each other and looking at us and smiling. When the light turned green they both did wheelies on those cop HD's, we thought that was the coolest thing we'd ever seen and couldn't stop talking about it for a long time.

@JohnSmith-de2mz I lived down there until 2011 when we moved to Idaho. I have no desire to be there. It's not what it used to be. I flew down to Orange County and bought a bike a few years ago. Ended up riding it north through L.A. on I-5 at 2pm on a Friday afternoon. Wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I think the drivers are generally better down there than here in Idaho.

The SP has to do with a speed capture display feature. Ride the bike with the SP mode on, then hit the trigger switch and it will capture the speed you are going at that time.

It's called THE KING for a reason!!
    ALL HAIL THE KING!!
Professional police motor officers use this motorcycle in the performance of their daily duties in the most demanding conditions.
Top motor officers are the best riders on this type of machine, hands down. While they will make subtle 'adjustments' to the motorcycle that allows better fit and the best leverage over it, they do not change anything that affects the geometry of the motorcycle, i.e., wheels & tires.
My police Road King is the motorcycle that brings the most smiles because it so so dang fun to play with! I have it set-up for that purpose and I ride the heck out of it. It's set-up with a focus of function over fashion. I have two other motorcycles that are more fashion oriented but without sacrificing functionality.
My suggestion, set-up your motorcycle with a clear focus on why you bought it.
    Purpose focused functionality!

Good video Cue! The mirrors allow us police riders to be able to see things behind us in greater detail. It takes some getting used to but you do get used to it. It's a good thing you got a new PD RK, Some of the ones that actually get put in service with a PD are riding pretty hard because of the nature of the job. My agency has sent some pretty tired ones off to auction when we finish with them. Having been very familiar with police HDs naturally, I chose that Yamaha Royal Star years back that you've seen me riding in Pooler. That bike is a road trip beast, as comfy as a couch and a bike you could do 1000 miles in a day on. Rodeos are tons of fun and I enjoy them, I had thought about getting into it on the civilian side as well. However, I decided to stick to what I love the most and that's touring. Long trips, seeing and experiencing things along the way is what I enjoy most.

You have one beautiful Road King Police. A year ago I bought a 2003 Road King Police with 53K miles. I love the classic styling, it seemed like this bike was waiting for me to come in. Just had the cam chain tensioner and throttle controls replaced, will be putting on new shocks. I was given a set of civilian mirrors, but I'm going to put the police side mirrors back on. I like my King Hell windshield, luggage rack, and lights front and back. I have a passenger pillion and foot pegs, and the only other add on will be a passenger back rest so my gal doesn't feel like she's going to slide off. I agree that every Road King should have this speedometer/tach setup. This motorbike is a joy to look at and to ride.

Great video. It is difficult to come across any videos of these. I ended up picking one up (new 2023) several months ago. Honestly, it was the most bang for the buck on the showroom floor. I have made several changes to mine already. Although I love the pogo seat, I have a shorter inseam, so I swapped out the seat. I put the SVT Boneshakers on it, which sound amazing. Today, I installed the Dirty Air Fast Up air suspension. This bike drives like a dream, especially compared to my '95 Softail Custom (which I love). Thanks for the video. Hi Cue, great video. I have a 2021 FLHP. Really good to see they are still making the Road king Standard model that was discontinued after 2022 for civilian models (which only came with the 107) I changed the lights, seat and exhaust. It’s the best Harley ever made for all around use…you’re going to love it. The lighting may be something you’ll have some quirky switch gymnastics you’ll have to do. With mine, I have to hit the red button on the left twice to get the passing lamps to turn on or off. Dealer had to contact HD for a s/w load just to get the switches to even operate the lights correctly. The breather is already a high flow unit on the FLHP, so you really only need to change the echo get to a stage 1. I’m planning an S&S cam soon along with true duals to get to a stage 2. Personally, I prefer the slightly smaller wheels on mine. They have increased rubber on the tires so the overall diameter you’re riding g on is the same the taller rims with lower k on profile tires. The advantage is that you get a more stable ride on city streets with the additional rubber on the tires…safety feature and ride co fort for the officers. Enjoy the great machine. Looking forward to seeing your mods. Alan

Great feedback! Thank you. I didn't realize this had a high flow air cleaner. I just don't like the look....plus (since I'm not a police officer) I don't want my bike to say police. I think it's disrespectful to actual police. I won't consider doing anything with the tires until I wear out the stock tires. But my goal is to find a way to reduce scraping the kick stand during left turns.

The ignition module died and i replaced it but it detuned it so much that i sold it (stupidly) im now hunting down another Fxr as im getting older. Most cop bikes go well. 2 guys i knew bought BMW R80 police bikes but one had a city diff and one a highway did the town one would do 70-80 mph only but got there fast .

Bumpus Memphis can order them for a civilian. They were all set to do so until I found a slightly used FLHR. As for the K1600, you should look into what it costs to do maintenance. You need to take half of it apart to do the 8k mile valve clearance check (~8 hours labor, do the math).

    1. SP Indicator is a Police function. SP stands for speed. You can save a current speed you‘re at an have it saved for stoping a speeding car or bike. Look it up in the manual.
    2. You did not mention the stealth mode of the police bikes. You can actually switch off all lights (except the tail light) while riding.
    3. You can NOT install a theft siren. The Police bikes don‘t have the fitting cable. Perhaps the dealer could do it but they would have to wire it from scratch.
I have one myself. Love it! I recommend the Custom Dynamics Adaptive LED headlight!

I also own a Police Road King and I’ve done many of the same things you talk about here - I highly recommend upgrading the rear suspension it makes a huge difference. I also did a Stage 1, then a year later got the 122 cubic inch motor stage 3 (without header, kept the SE mufflers) it makes a nice 130 ft lbs torque and is really smooth and usable power, you won’t even feel a passenger. Overall it has been a really fun bike to own and customize. Save your money, raise the shocks. I've got an old 2002 FXDP scrapes no matter how slow I corner, bloody annoying. Also I've run into electrical problems. Headlight plug melted, then only ran for 10min then 8, then 5 etc.. tore it apart & lost the few marbles I had left because cop bikes like you said have twice the wires. Long story short I've put it on the back burner for a do later & bought a new ADV Husqavarna. Suddenly I can go round corners again ! But your bike's a lot nicer than my ol Harley. So good luck & don't fret too much on how it looks, chicks don't know & don't care. Just that it runs & "where are we going ?" Yea SP, got the same speedo it's a bunch of cop stuff, SP keeps a record of top speed to write tickets in case the man forgets. Other obscure codes are for shop time to over haul etc.. The speaker icon button is for a loud speaker (crowd control) The forward seating position is actually by design, over 80+ if you have too much weight on the rear wheel you will experience speed wobbles. If it happens to you scooch forward & lean over the tank, the weight on the front tire should stop it long enough for the hair on the back of your neck to settle & that voice in your head you ignored to become clearer ("it ain't a race bike") ✌

  • @motorman857
    @motorman857 3 месяца назад

If you put stock style 19 and 18 wheels and tires, you will find that will not increase the height and lean angle. That's because the higher tires have a lower profile than the 17 and 16 police rims and tires. Before going through that expense, Measure your tires from top to bottom then do the same with the tires and rims you are thinking about buying. Also anyone can order a police Harley and there are numerous color options. It's really up to the dealer whether or not they will order a police bike for you. According to Harley, the dealer must keep a police bike in their demo fleet for a certain period of time. (that time can vary from 90 days to 6 months) However, Harley at times has allowed dealers to sell them upon delivery at the dealer. I've ordered several police R/K's and E/Glides thru the years and took delivery the day they came in.

@@RidingandWrenching ... I'm in Australia, so no opportunity to get one (unless it was a hand-picked import). Great bike though, I think these will "age well" ... I like the stock wheels, but fully understand the need for better cornering clearance. If I owned on, I'd leave it stock ... except get Jerry Palladino's signature on it :)

I'm not sure what the hockey pucks looked like. My bags looks like any other Harley saddlebag.
