'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...', Part 3.
Another one of few(?) video games based on movies that was done right, especially a SNES game.
Re-telling or something of Episode VI, where the farmer boy from Episode IV and V (who has a laser sword and knows magic) travels with his sister to rescue the "some dude" from Episode IV and V from some giant slug thingy. Sister gets sexified by giant slug thingy. The "some dude" and the sister are rescued. Later, they go to a forest, where local widelife helps the good guys. The "farmer boy with a laser sword and knows magic" goes into a space station to battle his father (again) and some creepy old man. Elsewhere, the Aluminum Falcon blows up a space station. The furry from Episode IV and V has little to no plot significance but he gets one usage in a stage. Mode 7 is involved. The game is known for the ball-busting difficulty. This game is more forgiving than the other two (more lives to get).
Game is played on Brave (Normal)...and I NEVER played this game before. There is a mix of both Star Wars games (character selection from SSW and double jump from TESB). However, Luke is stuck with the lightsaber (and the Force). Everyone else uses guns (Leia uses charge type attacks before she gets captured. She gets a blaster). There is little Plasma use in this game, but it is utilized. Should've used Luke for the Rancor Pit stage, but then Han would get no action. Force Vanish is overpowered. Used it to cheap out on segments and bosses. I REALLY stink at this game. -

Lucasarts had some talented artists, man. These graphics look amazing for 1994. Excellent sound design too, sort of ahead of its time.
While Lucasarts was indeed involved with the game's development, the main game development was by Sculptured Software, who also did the NES version of Empire Strikes Back. They also did other NES games such as Day Dreamin' Davey, Monopoly, and Eliminator Boat Duel.
I love how true to the movie this is, like how it perfectly captures my favorite scene when Chewbacca was flipping around, shooting birds or when Luke went around collecting tokens in a canyon
Or when Leia fires an energy arrow out of her staff
I mean they had to take some liberties, and these games are still some of the best action platformers on the system.
The game is "authentic." Which is all an adaptation of a movie to a game should be. Authentic. It conveys the tone, visuals, music, sound FX, locales, and major plot beats, while adding in fun and challenging gameplay.
Don’t forget Luke wildly swinging his Sabre at a shuttle carrying Dark Troopers
You guys are gay
So sick, that Palpatine is at the end laughing, with his image, this game was way ahead of its time
Kinda makes you wonder if the makers of this game predicted his return.
@@DanSolo0119 "...Somehow, Palpatine returned"
@@DanSolo0119 I mean... it came out a few years after Dark Empire.
Nice to see the ending 20 years later. Could never beat the last level. Felt like I was flying in the tunnel for an hour, eventually I'd hit a wall and it would all go to hell.
Vath121 I know what you mean. It must have taken me about 10 tries before I finally made it. A lot of the parts of the tunnel, I hated because if you stare at it too long while trying to navigate, you'll start to either go cross-eyed or feel dizzy. Would have been nice if they had put some collectible shields and health in that level. Would have saved me a ton of frustration. lol
Lol
Vath121 same except it made me motion sick and then I stopped
Same
Wow, watched the Video for the exact same reason. I was so frustrated as a child, because it had cost me so many tries to even get there and then i just bounced against the walls for what felt like forever until i lost. After watching it, i now know that i was obly about 30 secobds from the end. That and knowing there were others like me gives me a little peace actually...
Never got past first level. This game was a true nightmare.
Isn't it amazing how every living thing is so inherently combustible? They dont simply die when you kill them, they literally EXPLODE.
GoldenEye 007's office furniture in a nutshell.
Master Shake
I mean you are blasting them with lasers, missiles, fire, and plasma. Can't say what the Ewoks tip their arrows with though.

Jabba may be gross but he was very happy
He could have been this Galaxy's Bad Santa.
Han ma bookie.
I got this for christmas in 1996! Still have it and play it on the regular
I got it for Christmas 96' as well! Great memories playing this game through Christmas break at age 9.
The last level was SUCH a pain in the ass... only beat it once.
svsps It took me a lot of practice to beat that last level. When I finally did, it was the most satisfying completion of a video game I ever had
@@TheMightyThor83 I could never beat it. Way too hard.
Sucks!
@Arthur Sliker Yeah I thought the last level was super fun and really not that hard as a kid. Especially because at the time it was a close as I could get to a 3D level other than Star Fox. But then I've always been good at flight games and 3D games compared to side scrollers. Some of other levels in this series are nightmares for me.
It took a lot of tries, but I finally got it. I even made the run once without any damage after that...I may suck at every video game in the universe, but who else can say that?
oh god, i remember getting lost on the level at 45:00, literally messing around for hours, failing the level at 50:50 on purpose because i found it really fun playing it over and over again..
and finally the last level was such a pain in the ass i felt like a god when i've finally completed it. Damn, I miss my childhood a lot
I remember playing this for hours in my brothers room ..I loved it and I still do 🥰
Oh, man. I remember playing this game late at night while over at a friend's house taking turns. Love the '90s.
Hey EA this is how you make a star wars game
Battlefront 2's campaign wasn't bad. Multiplayer on the other hand...
Multiplayer sucks
Der_Jaeger The campaign was lazily written and full of cliches. Overall really boring and predictable
This game pretty much sucked... the best star wars game made was Tie Fighter on the PC, X-Wing the remastered version was pretty good too
l😂
I sometimes skipped primary school for this 😂 The sound of that title screen at 8 in the morning, amazing! 🥳
Hell yes, sounded even better in a winter rainy morning.
Wow, such nostalgia. I remember playing this game back in 1993 when I was a senior in high school. I eventually Beat it in all the different difficulties and honestly I really think that somewhere in my parents basement my instruction manual is still there with all the codes. LOL awesome video and it brings back so much amazing memories. Super Empire strikes back and super Star Wars were also awesome.Out of all of them though I still feel that super Star Wars was the most difficult one.
Super Return of the Jedi came out in late 1994.
My bad. Lapse of memory. Sucks getting old.
Idk man empire strikes back had a password and it still took me longer to complete than the first one bout to play return of Jedi for first time can’t wait!
God these games were so good but so hard. Every screen was so packed with stuff to kill you. And the damn missions flying the falcon in and out of the Death Star went on for soooo long!
That Death Star core sequence was vertigo-inducing.
In 1996 THQ announced that they would re-release Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in February 1997 in order to coincide with the "Special Edition" of those films appearing in theaters. The re-release is identical to the original version.
My friend bought these in 1996 or 1997.
God, the final level in this game was TORTURE! I cannot tell you how many time I failed at that level...
how do u avoid the fire ?
This game was fun but such a kick in the balls. I couldn't beat it
@@fredrikandersson5787 By going fast. Go too slow, and it catches up with you
@@fredrikandersson5787 Also, getting hit slows you down
@@fredrikandersson5787 Fly very very fast.
this game was hard af back in the day
Josh Ricci Especially the final level. I don't remember how many attempts it took me to escape the Death Star before I finally did it.
Trust me, it’s still fucking hard.
It's still damn near impossible for me on Jedi mode lol
It's hard af NOW... Are you kidding me?
Josh Ricci it still is.
Wicket: "Help, the empire is about to arrive!"
And then you spend a whole level killing natural enemies like snakes and aliens. Sweet. xD
Lando: How g'dam long is this trench man!!
Nien Numb: Sorry dude, I took us the extra long way around...
Did anyone else hear "That was too close" at 1:22:15?
Yes - 1:22:10. ^_^
Thanks, I always wondered what he said there
I just realized that’s the part when Lando knocks over the satellite dish in the movie XD
Man I had all 3 of them on snes, and trust me they were HARD especially empire strikes back.
My friend had ESB and we could never beat that damn game. In my 30s now, I have trouble making it past the first level.
This brings back so many memories. I still got the games too think I might go play them again
This one is by far, the easiest of the three games, but by no means is it easy. It's still one of the more difficult SNES games.
Agree. Super Star Wars, the first one, was awfully hard. At least in this one controls felt more responsive. ROTJ was actually the only one I managed to finish, even in Jedi difficulty.
Strange. I find this one to be the hardest, with Super Star Wars being the easiest, and the only one I ever beat.
@@starwarsunfiltered7848 I agree. Super Star Wars was the only one I could beat. Empire and Return were both nightmares
@@starwarsunfiltered7848 Return of the Jedi is the easiest, i beat it in just 5 hours in my first try, SSW was hard because no password, but it's the most fair and balanced game of the trilogy, i could reach the end without using continues, Empire Strikes Back is the hardest by far, not even close. For a no continue run, i rank SSW > ROTJ > ESB, from easiest to hardest.
The last level @_@
I cant take it anymore, lol
I remember playing this on cold winter nights back in the day...so nostalgic.
I remember that my cousin was adamant on using the lightsaber was only 'allowed' in this game out of the three, as this was the point where Luke had finished his Jedi training.
Btw, after all these years, I still can't handle Leia's moans and grunts...
Best of the Star Wars games for SNES. The day I finally beat the last level was the most satisfied I ever felt beating a video game.
These games were awesome when they came out because they were the first decent side scrollers for SW.
Dang, in that final scene, Tsunao was REALLY cutting it close! But then, the players of these Star Wars games kinda did that a lot.
Then again, you did warn this trilogy of games was tough, and I'll take your word for it (never had an SNES myself when I was young).
Good playing here.
luke's voice when hurt ... ah,ah,ah....ah ah ..ah!
Shares the same voice with Han as well. :P
Khairyll Yazeed should eating kolaches
This is literally one of the greatest games of all time! Like damn man, the nostalgia is full blown! This game was so fun and so fucking hard at the same time. I genuinely enjoyed every second of this game!
In the speeder bike levels, you will have an easier time if you ride low, then ride high when the trooper appears, and then drop the bike on the trooper: this forces him into the ground and saves you your health.
The good old days
When Leia gets hit she MOANS.
@Smallie Tubin or in the japanese version of Final Fight 2 it have some women enemies and every time you kill them they make a moan in different pitch lol
Just like the movie.
I'll never forget the emporer exploding when luke attacked him with his lightsaber
Did anyone else used to intentionally have Leia take damage, to hear the sound clip? Or was that just me and my brother? 😂
This hás to be one of the best Starwars game out there, you play with all the main characters, you play with so many vehicles, and you get to use th lightsaber and the force not too mention fight against main enemies. Brave Lucasarts
No its not. This game sucks
No reason that this game had to be so hard that it wasnt fun
@@JohnSmith-yd5wq Games back in the 2D era were brutal, simple as that. It took me multiple attempts and a good amount of trial and error to beat Sonic 2.
Wow the graphics on this game is Awesome!! Makes me wish I still had my SNES system still😣 great up load though!✌🏽👌🏽💯💯
Love the description you gave for the game. Very funny.
Even the first level says a lot, Leia makes dodgy sounds when she gets hurt, and with a power-up, the game seems almost like it has the speed physics of Sonic the Hedgehog, something Sega said Nintendo didn't have on the SNES, they thought wrong. Anyway, the game looks brilliant :D
Animation was incredible for the time! Really did feel like playing Luke, and using Djem So!
While I've never actually played these "Super Star Wars" games before, I like how they seem to closely relate to their respective movies. Watching videos like these almost feels like watching the actual films themselves.
Man I loved this game!! Watching this brought back so many memories! I remember trying so hard to beat the level where you escape in the ship at the end after Vader dies. I must have spent a whole weekend as a kid trying to beat that. This was such a well done game, it was fun, intricate and had long gameplay. The graphics were pretty good for it’s time, too. I like the deep background you can see while playing as an Ewok on Endor. Thanks for the video!
WOOOOOOOOOWW Sega was wrong about their console being better than this. THIS IS AMAZING!!!
oh heck yes 100%
Forgot to switch accounts?
Technically it was...Segas graphics was years ahead of Super Nintendo but SNES processor allowed them a bigger color palette, read up on it...them pretty colors captivated the masses...
@@smokescreen3211, I read up it. Hell, I lived through it. Genesis was WEAK graphically and audibly compared to SNES. Watch the last 10 minutes of this video, and the mode 7 was another reason why Segs couldn't compete.
Sega does what Nintendon't
In my top 20 SNES games. These are great!!!
loved playing this game as a kid, could never beat the last level, than when I got a little older I could.. Love this my god, super empire strikes back is awesome too
I used to love playin these game i had all 3 of them it was awesome time...watch this brings back some good memories....
An hour and a half. It took me hours to beat this. The Game Genie codes helped tremendously. Insanely Fantastic graphics
Unless you play on hard mode, Leia is crazy powerful in her first two forms. Her charged attack does almost as much damage as a thermal detonator! Unfortunately, her third form is just Han without grenades.
Also, 6:49 Anomalocaris! :D
Still have all 3 of my SNES SSW game carts as well as my trusty ol' SNES... Miss those days when I would sit down and play them all back to back, one after the other but, out of the 3, this was my least favorite... still good though. Someday, I need to fire up my SNES and revisit my favorite SNES gems...
Just do it man!
I like 4, then 6 then 5. Something about the difficulty and lack of variety in 5 bums me out even though it is by and large the fan favorite of the 3. It had groundbreaking mechanics w all the force stuff, but I just don't like it that much. 6 was the same, w less difficulty and more variety so I'm down. 4 is the og and hard but still manageable and decently fun. The feelign you got when you actually were able to use the lightsaber and got that far was awesome. Then never really capitalize on that sort of feeling in the other 2. They're all good in their own ways.
Where's my Super Phantom Menace, Mr. Lucas?
***** But man, just think of all the weird stuff that would be rearranged and taken out of context. You'd probably fight Boss Nass at least once and have a Mode 7 Podrace.
+Lee Thompson-Kolar Yes i really loved to see Super Phantom Menace, Super Attack of the Clones and Super Revenge of the Sith
Lucasarts developers used real unused stuff from the Skywalker Ranch collection like the Boss from the Barge that was a preliminar concept of the Rancor.
+P. H. G. F. But the prequels were after the SNES time if I recall correctly.
lukesk11135 I know, but just imagine if the original developers of these 3 Super Star Wars games release the source code, we could make new graphics, new Music arrangements and new levels based on these 3 prequels. You understand?
Plus Super Attack of the Clones, Super Revenge of the Sith and Super Force Awakens.
Literally one of my top 5 favorite SNES games
Grandes recuerdos!!!! De los primeros juegos que termine..... Los niveles del halcón milenario eran excelentes para la época..... Si bien las últimas dos eran un dolor de cabeza agarrándole el modo las pasaba como si nada.... Era muy divertido
Damn the force is strong in these games !!
You trying to smash?
Had I owned a SNES, I would’ve been all over this game.
At 1:27:50 this is the music that is forever stuck in my head whenever i think about this game. fun ass hell, back in the 90s enjoying being a child
Lucasarts really knew how to scare people. The monsters you fight really fit a whole Creepypasta.
And at times I think the Empire with their machines aside from the ones I’m familiar with, I believe they hired Dr Robotnik to make them
que recuerdos aun tengo el cartucho de este juego gracias por subirlo :D
A video game from the 90s is better than a movie from today, who would've ever guessed. I remember playing this before I lost my sight. I think it was the last game as a matter of fact. I didn’t have great vision to begin with so I needed help on the vehickle levels.
Never got tired of hearing wickett say "Yeehaw" and "pitcher!"
This is the most balanced of all the Super star wars games imo, had incredible fun playing this as a kid.
I remember play the Gameboy version of this. It was dope when I was ten or so.
I used to play this as a kid, a lot, never understood english very much back in the day, nor was a huge fun of SW, but this was hard and I appreciate as a game of my childhood, now I'm 33 and I like Star Wars more than ever thanks to The Mandalorian
Had this when it first came out on SNES brilliant fame and the graphics really pushed the SNES to its limit
25:48 My mans Sliding Like sub zero 😂 nice gameplay bro good stuff lol
Absolutely my favorite SNES game
One of the best video games adaptations of a movie ever
Wow, i used to own this game back in th day... great memories!!
Loved this game, thanks for sharing
Watching the death star escape was genuinely more exciting than watching The Last Jedi.
Cue sequal haters
Lior Burstein the sequels were objectively bad, uninspired and lacked any love that the others (yes even the prequels got).
To show how pointless the sequels were I’ll ask “what did the sequels accomplish?”. Nothing, they ended up at the same point as Return of the Jedi did except with bad characters making the whole trilogy pointless.
haha the music in the beginning. excellent xD
Oh wow, I guess in some parts of the game like when entering Jaba's Palace in the beginning of the game, you can select your own character. That's pretty cool.
Im at the rancor pit level. I have never made it this far. One of my fav games of all time. On SNES and in general. My fav of the trilogy. This is my fav star wars movie too. Thank god for game genie.
Thank you for this video. I love this game 👍
Hey I want Super Phantom Menace, Super Attack of the Clones, Super Revenge of the Sith and Super Force Awakens. Can you imagine that? In Super
Force Awakens Ray has super invincibility enabled by default....😸
LOL Super Mary Sue. I'm not interested in Super Last Jedi though. There's nothing super about that.
Imagine butt hurt Star Wars geeks who hate the sequel trilogy complaining about the games! Plus the SNES died over 20 years ago.
Excelente vídeo. Foi nostálgico ver você jogando, trouxe lembranças boas deste jogo.
33:20 this was cool tbh
90's & 80's kids we really have the privilege to witness the gaming industry evolution like never before
I only ever had the Gameboy version of this. This one's so much better....
But yeah being ten or so in the mid nineties was so great. SNES, DOS games on PC, a few cans of Surge, some sour warheads and stuffed crust pizza. Those were the golden days man
Copyright laws take the fun out of everything.
Copyright laws have been taken to retarded extremes in recent years. Just look at patent trolls for the most ridiculous example
Ch 1ristlicherKrieger3
Leia's grunts make her sound like she's in an adult movie 😂
17:40 the lightsaber throw was way ahead of its time
born 76 and i grow up with the first star wars saga and games like this (c64,amiga500,snes,megadrive). retronostalgic style! it looks great (the falcon level at 1:06:59 looks cool)
game is so damn hard. i dont know how we played these games back in the day.
Is basically that whole intro done using various Mode 7 screens for the logo, text and Star Destroyer scaling into the screen with sprites making up the rest?
You are a true Jedi, sir.
Luke was ridiculously OP this game. Any level played with him became a snap. He had a weapon that caused huge amounts of damage in seconds (his lightsaber), could deflect enemy fire and had force powers which no other player character had access to.
'Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back'
In that game, you fight Boba Fett.
Thanks for playing this game. This sure brings nasty memories of these Super Star Wars's difficulty.
How does it sounds that Lucasarts would make another Super Star Wars game trilogy out of episode 1-3? That would be a great idea for old school gamers. :)
I remember being confused as hell about the first level because that was NOT in the movie, lol.
Made in 1994. I was 7 years old. Man time flies.
Doesn't it just. And it seems to speed up as you get older as well. One minute your at school, the next its college, and before you know it you're in your thirties wondering where all that time went.
Ahhh right in the childhood ❤
This whole game is one PARTY HARD gif animation
1:17:02 The Emperor literally dabs. Goddammit.
LMAO you're right

This part was virtually impossible in the Game Boy version.
That last Death Star level, most likely to induce motion sickness or if your name is Dave "it's full of stars"
Nice video , brings me back so memories.
Can anyboby tells me what those R2 pickup does ?
