As an ex-death metal drummer I'll always regret never reaching this level of playing. I could play Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse (some of it) and was really on my way to reaching this level but when our band split (ANGUISH from Mid-Missouri) I was just like man, fuck this shit. Never touched drums again, never went and saw other bands play. I'll be a death metal fan til I leave this Earth. Sometimes life sucks. Great playing man.
It's never too late to pick it back up again, man! I very nearly quit music entirely after my first band quit, but I kept on just because of how cathartic it was and now I'm so glad I actually kept with it.
Why not just pick up a practice pad and a pair of sticks? Very low investment and it’s something you can do just while hanging out. You’ll definitely get back into it! Plus if you wanna reach this kind of level working on a pad ain’t a bad idea :) I’m 36 and just getting started drumming so you’re way ahead of me!
As a musician I understand the feeling of wanting to be on that level but you gotta just keep playing and practicing and enjoying it. If you’re enjoying it you’ll progress faster than just trying to be “the best”

God this band is really something else. I have never heard anything so just ridiculously aggressive and brutal
obsessed with them, there’s also definitely a weird sense of humor running through their work that comes out in the rhythms of the riffs sometimes
