Winter Rockhounding: Agates in the Cold
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 янв 2024
- Taking advantage of an unusual open and warm winter in Montana, Kate and Kava hit the Yellowstone River to do some rockhounding. It's the perfect blend of beautiful rocks, gorgeous scenery, crisp clean air and sunshine - great treatment for the winter blues! Even at this time of year, the agates are plentiful, if not huge. If you are in the mood for a wander along the river hunting for rocks but can't get out because of the cold, this video is for you! Agates, jasper and petrified wood are just a few of the treasures that Kate finds along the beach - but her biggest find is the joy she finds when rockhounding at the river. Come along!

Thanks Kate. You are very lucky to live in Montana where there are so many beautiful rocks!
I definitely am VERY lucky - although right now, when the temp hasn't been above zero F for three days, I'm wondering. :D
Beauties to find and fresh crisp air.
Yep! It was awesome.
Glad you were able to get out! It's always special when the opportunity affords itself
It is. Thanks for coming along!
That agatized wood is so cool!
Thanks for braving the cold. Enjoyed the variety.
Thanks! I enjoyed it too.
Yea you had a great time and being out helps to get rid of the blues.
Never ceases to amaze, can't wait to finish shaking the flu so I can get back out
Uff da, the flu is no joke!
Best way to spend New Years Eve.
I agree!

Not only the rocks are beautiful! The reflection of the trees is too.
Oh, yeah, for sure!
Very cool.
Thanks!
So nice. That last sliced rock was so interesting. It looked like wood bits in it. Thanks!
Thanks, Christi! Looking forward to seeing you.
Ditto!@@KatyDidRocks
Woww keren,👍👍
11:15 is really nice!
Thanks!
Haha we haven't had a lot of snow in Wyoming either. So I went rock hounding on Tuesday morning after a grave shift. It was so much fun! I also found petrified wood, jasper and agates but my agates were a lot smaller than yours
Nice!
Nice Jasper!
Jasperlicious!
Love the rocks,take care
Fun! I got out too to rockhound when the weather got warmer. The wind gets quite cold out by the sea in winter here in Canada.
Oh, I can imagine! We are currently at -12F, with snow on the ground, so I won't be out any time soon.
😂😂SOMEBODY STOP ME 😂😂
:D
Cool that winter did not prevent you from hunting for agates! Do you ever find fossil bone?
Makes me want to go out, sigh* thank you Kate!❤
I was so happy to be able to share!
the agate piece at 12:21 looks like barbecue chicken with grill marks!!
Ha!
Wow, what a hunt! So many beautiful finds.
It really was fun.
How strange was it, being able to rock hunt during the winter? This has got to be really unusual for Montana! Wow! Can't wait to see what you found! Yay! ❤🎉Thanks Kate!
:) Thanks, Lisa.
Enjoy it before the snow storms. Happy new year Katy🎉
Happy New Year to you too!
lol @ somebody stop me! Shoot, I would be right there with you if I could saying let’s find some more lol. Happy new year to you and your family, including the furbabies
Thank you, Nancy!
@@KatyDidRocks you’re most welcome anytime. Hope y’all stay warm in the crazy weather that’s happening up that way. My son is in Kansas and it’s creating chaos on him and his army unit. -12 is crazy !!!! And that’s without the windchill factored into it…I love the Midwest, born and raised there, but that must be some record temps there
Man... I need to get back at cutting rocks...
I knew when you started cutting differently, your thoughts would follow
... I recall saying I would like to see other rocks Kate.... granite is fun to polish...
:) It really does change your perspective!
@@KatyDidRocks I miss watching the channel...

What is a Montana Moss Agate?
Montana moss agates are dendritic agates formed in volcanic stone. They can be found along the Yellowstone River from Livingston all the way to Sidney.
Mule deer in the river??
LOL, I think that's Kava, my dog! But there are mule deer - it's possible I missed it.
I see your dog but isn't Kava sniffing around a mule deer carcass in the river? @ 7minutes 30 seconds .
Oh, my goodness, I think you are right. How did I miss THAT?!
