  • Kate, Jim and Kava hit the gravel on the Yellowstone River for some spring rockhounding. Unfortunately, April has been looking more like January in eastern Montana, and a snowstorm is on its way. The day is gray, but the rocks are colorful, and any day on the river is a good day. Come along!

    As always, thanks for letting us tag along. That snow headed north, and east, fortunately and we only got ~2/3 of what you received. Southern MB hasn't been so fortunate; they're getting more today/tomorrow.

    Great finds even though it was super cold. My hat's off to you for going anyhow and getting your hound on! I thought it was particularly funny that you don't trust the 'waterproofing' of your boots. I agree fully, nothing worse than wet feet on a cold day! Thanks for bringing us along, cheers!

    Thank you for sharing your cold weather rockhounding adventure. It might be crazy to do, but it's the best to get out to our spots and look after ice out. The coldest I've hunted in was in November along the U.P. Michigan's western shores of Lake Superior at night looking for Yooperlites. It was crazy, but so much fun. Take care!

    I saw a red jasper... jim finally got a nice pet wood. Is the milk agate kind of bluish? Our lapidary has stuff that was donated and very little is bluish milk agate. That seems appealing to me.

    • @KatyDidRocks
      @KatyDidRocks  2 года назад +1

      "Milk agate" is just lingo for an agate that has impurities in it. They are also called "mud agates," but that seems harsh to me. :)

    • @rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469
      @rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 2 года назад +1

      @@KatyDidRocks I guess I didn't get all my words out. Is it a white with bluish undertones.. the milk term makes me feel like that's part of it. Some of the white agates have black dendritic material and is interesting.
      You cut something that what mixture of white, yellow and translucent, you said that wasn't as interesting.. was that a milk agate?

I have no idea where to go or how to get to the gravel bars but I’m determined lol if you have any advice or wanna give me tips or even meet up that would make a dream come true for me :)
