Hey everyone! Today we're going to be building an atlatl out of PVC plumbing pipe. This is one of my favorite styles of atlatl to make, inspired by the atlatls of the Basketmaker culture of the American Southwest and the atlatls of Mesoamerica. It's a nice flexible atlatl that works great and once you get a hang of it, can be very accurate with even shorter darts.
We're also going to be building a two piece takedown dart to go with our atlatl. The takedown connection is also made of PVC pipe. This is a great dart to get started in throwing with an atlatl as it's long and flexible, making it very forgiving. It also comes apart for storage and transportation because a six foot long dart can be a little awkward.
We'll be building this atlatl here as well as in an Instructable. When making the dart, we'll fletch it with feathers here and with duct tape in the Instructable.
I hope you enjoy the little bonus at the end. Thanks for watching!

I've been watching your channel for while and have always been impressed by the things you have made with PVC. Totally Awesome job and really thank you for your skill and creativity and the time you put into your videos. Thank You.
i love taking atlatls and just throwing for distance. watching the dart go 100+ feet is so satisfying (untill i need to go retreive them lol)
Nighthawk brought me here, and I subbed!
jonah levine Thanks for the subscribe and for watching!
Aloha Nick! Have to admit, year ago I was almost wtf about your pvc stuff :) But your videos are a.m.a.z.i.n.g.. Specially stuff about atlatl and atlatl darts. I was inspired by your videos and since I've couldn't found pvc pipe of appropriate diameter I've simply joined 2 poplar dowels using scarf joint and wrapped it by sinew. It was hell great. Was surprised after i understood why neolithic man used it successfully. My first dart broke in the air right before joint more than likely due to inapropriate hitting with thrower but after week of throwing it. Hazel is great but pvc things are quicker, cheap and longer lasting. Now I gonna searching for pvc and your book on bows (awesome cool stuff even i am into composite bows). Keep on rockin'!
The Atlatl predates the bow & arrow.
You are very awesome and talent Nick ; atlatls are my second ancient weapon after the bow and arrow.
Google pulled it right up and took me to Amazon. Looks good! I'll get a copy.
man you are sooo AWESOME in your art!!! thanks Nick for all the info.
Very cool young man. Glad to see the heritage is continuing. Keep up the work and post more.....
I tried to make your shoehorn atlatl yesterday, but managed to screw it up by twisting the plastic too much. I did make a 2 meter dart out of fiberglass rod with duct tape fletching that I can throw about 20 meters by hand alone though. Now I will try this PVC atlatl and see if I can get it to work with any accuracy. Thanks for all the videos and hard work, Nick. (^_^)
Nick's a good guy !! Thanks Nick !
+Glenda Cawthon Thank you for watching!
A Big Aloha to you from Germanya, your Tribe.
Dein Stamm ;)
Dein Stamm ist immer da, die Frage ist ob Du Ihn sehen kannst. ;)
Bought your book...thanks!
Thanks so much.
Great presentation, nice practice.
Interesting book .Congrats!
Bravo !!!
Great Channel! Well done mate!
I throw the same way but my atlatl has a much shorter handle. This allows for more follow through and a bit more power in my opinion.
Hey Nick I saw your fine work on NIghthawkInLight.
Great work mate I can't wait to have a go myself.
Nice, it actually looks super lethal. I wonder how they would look with a higher target, like the mammoths they used to hunt thousands of years ago
Very nice Bro might have to make one for myself
binge watching your vids man
awesome job. and craftsmanship. glad I found your ch.
Nice
Nice vid! Very good instruction. I'm definitely going to make one of these. Didn't know you've written books. Not sure what you have for distribution and you've probably covered that in your past vlogs. For those of us who do not know, please inform us where we can purchase your books?

kodiac777 Thanks for watching a glad to have you here!
Also, try throwing it like a fast ball pitcher, more accuracy and power.
Hey Nick, Thanks for another encouraging video. Do you need to be as fussy with the atlatl darts as when making arrows or are they more forgiving of grain run out?
Nick, When did you move from Hawaii?
From past videos, I got the feeling you used to live close to where I lived in Hau'ula.
Hawaii!!!
great
A surprise to see you here.
Parabens muito bom video

Shit imagine our favorite boy having 100000 subs thats awesome
It's a Woomera the abos have been using these for a while. We used to use a piece of string with a knot in each end. I got corporally punished for killing a rabbit with mine.
👍👍👍
How long did it take for you to learn to use the atlatl ?

Excuse me, Nicolas, for my possibly not very correct question, but i'm very curious about your origin. I mean not the country where you live, but your genealogy origin. The place where your ancestors lived. (Sorry for bad english)
