I really love these. Anastasia has such a pleasant voice and is so articulate and Jon's excitement is palpable.
That's really lovely to hear, thanks!
I've never played this game before and this is one of my favorite 2 player playthroughs I've ever watched. Your personalities are very fun together!
That is really wonderful to hear, thanks!
So excited to see you two play this. I had not seen a playthrough before and it was fantastic. Great job!
Great video! Very informative & fun. i wish you keep doing playthroughs for more games like these :)
My number one game! Thanks for the great playthrough!
I absolutely love how much fun you two had - Innovation was one of my first games and I haven't played it in years. Definitely one I need to get back to the table :)
This was a very fun play through, thanks! I played it for the first time on BGA a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The timing was nice with the current campaign on Backerkit.
That was a fantastic play through to watch. Thank you!
Wow that Anatomy was savage. I think Jon should have discarded the high scoring cards first while they didn't match his top cards. Later they became a liability as he had to return his top 6s.
Yeah, I was NOT expecting her to go so hard with that attack and I'm sure I could have played better to defend against it.
I just wanted to thank you. I have had this game for years but had I a really had hard time wrapping my head around the rules so it sat on my shelf unused. Watching your playthrough made it all click so I actually played my copy for the first time and really enjoyed it. Thank you again!
That is wonderful to hear!
one of the best card games ever made
great playthrough like usual!
I really enjoyed this. When I looked into Innovation a few years ago, my initial reaction was interest in the theme and the game. Then, watching a video on it, it seemed fiddly with all of the splaying etc. Your playthrough really breathed some life into this game. It looks like it's worth a try.
if you play it in person, it helps to print out the symbol tracking cards for each player, so you can easily see how many each player has total of each symbol. They have them on BGG. There is a wonderful implementation on BGA also, and it tracks the symbols for you, so it is easier to figure out the effects of the dogma effects. Most people complain the game is totally random because they lose track of the symbols and aren't able to predict the effects of the cards well enough.
Great playthrough thank you!
I like this series, and an old game I never heard of before.
This is such a whacky game! Still one of my all-time favourites, with its potential to create surprisingly thematic stories with such a small set of rules and compact package.
Thanks for the video, you seemed to have so much fun and the whackyness really came across.
Yeah, I was glad to see some whackiness though I was abit bummed we didn't really "play" with the age 9 and 10 cards before it ended.
Thanks. Innovation is my 2nd favorite game of all time. 1. Dominion 2. Innovation. Amazingly, with all the plays we are still on the base set! This and Fantasy Realms have the most depth in a small stack of cards. Love the look of the originals the best.
Ultimate is on crowdfunding now!
Still one of my favorite games after all these years, especially because of how portable it is. I do think it's best at 2 players though.
Very entertaining play through. Got me totally hyped to play it again. My wife isn’t crazy about it but since I have a birthday coming up, she has no choice!😜
Such a great explanation and play through. I was screaming at my screen the whole time, ....."don't do that!!!" 😊
Haha, I could feel that even while I was recording. I had so many cards, I was sure I was botching things strategically.
Made me go find a copy and purchase! Thanks
This was so much fun!!!
We had a blast making it :)
I backed this kinda on a hunch, but now seeing the way you make history and then the world happens to you, it is hilarious.
It does seem a tad hard to stay on top of every mechanic amid all the levels of brain burning, however.
The mechanics in the rules aren't that tough; most of the additional "mechanics" on the card are just a matter of doing what the card says. For me, the difficulty at times comes in playing or seeing a card played that I haven't seen yet. :)
great game!
at 1:44:56, Anastasia could have dogma'd the Publications card and rearranged the blue pile so the clock wasn't on top thereby saving her pile from the Skyscraper card. Then tried for the achievement the next turn, right?
Ah, yeah that would have been a great defensive move!
Love this game, but I like using a symbol tracking page for each player, so it is easy to see total symbol numbers. The BGA implementation is fabulous too.
Good to see this game again. I need to play it soon. Why does she draw 3 fours at 49:20? There seems to be a choice of drawing cards or getting the achievement? What is allowing her to draw the 3 cards? …wait…it was the fermenting!
Really cool playthrough. Good work, Anastasia! The A.P. is real in this one for sure. Question: If you meld to a card that is splayed, does it start splayed or not? I think Anastasia did that somewhere.
Yes, it does.
I needed this since 2022 XD
This game is brutal. Not a friendly game at all, but it’s sure fun if you don’t take it seriously.
A note to Jon - the 2v2 variant is actually very easy to run, and preferable when you play at 4. The additional rules are as follows - you and your teammate count your achievements as a team (doesn't matter how they are distributed between you), and each team is considered as a single player, so you need 6 achievements to win, as if it were a 2-player game; you don't apply demand effects against your teammate; and you don't get a free draw if you share a non-demand effect with your teammate only (they still get to do it before you). Also, if the game ends prematurely without a winner, you count your score as a team as well.
If you add some expansions, you can play teams at higher numbers, like 3v3, it may be a lot of fun :)
Huh, that does sound pretty intriguing. Thanks!
Bicycle doesn't count towards Monument as you're exchanging cards rather than scoring them! It's written on the card ;)
My favourite game, this was a lot of fun to watch. Are you planning to try the new version that's on Backerkit now?
I looked at it, and I don't think I will. I certainly would if I didn't still own this version, but this version plays just fine and I still have no desire to add in expansions.
That was such a freeky game ^^
I played this game only once, years ago, against my brother. We had such a terrible time! It’s way too in your face for our taste, and swingy as well. I was clearly losing the game for quite some time until I found a combination that got me over the hump and won me the game in a very weird way.
1:50:00 transfering 6 cards with bicycle wouldn't count for Monument
The Monument is claimed when you tuck or score 6 cards in one turn, and I would have scored 6+ cards on that turn to take it. At least, that's my interpretation, has it been explained that exchanging cards into a score pile doesn't count as scoring them?
@@JonGetsGames You could TUCK 6 cards by doing Lighting dogma twice ( but there was not enough different vaules on hand to score you six [7] from deck).
I see that you have 1st ed Innovation. On Monumnet card (second paragraph) is is explicit exclusion of effects stealing points ( transfers form other players) and exchanges with own hand - cards are not named but Canal Building and Bicycle for best examples.
Is the dogma on Anatomy thematically causing existential dread on the opponent? 😂
If the Dogma on a card allows a splay (like the green "Paper"), and you placed another green card on top of it, would it also splay, or cover your "Paper" card (but the under cards would remain splayed)? If that makes sense haha.
You maintain the splay with new cards.
Kudos*Sudoku
This game looks terrible to me lol, way too swingy for my taste
it is certainly not for everyone :)
